But seriously, Texas is experiencing some terrible droughts and devastating wildfires–so I can see where the man coming from. Can’t you?
Via Think Progress:
Texas is currently experiencing a historic drought, which is fueling devastating wildfires. Today, Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) came up with an innovative solution — prayer. Perry issued an official proclamation drawing on his constitutional authority designating three days as Days of Prayer for Rain:
And here it is, in the governor’s own words:
I, RICK PERRY, Governor of Texas, under the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of the State of Texas, do hereby proclaim the three-day period from Friday, April 22, 2011, to Sunday, April 24, 2011, as Days of Prayer for Rain in the State of Texas. I urge Texans of all faiths and traditions to offer prayers on that day for the healing of our land, the rebuilding of our communities and the restoration of our normal and robust way of life.
Rain dance, anyone?

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 6:50pmDoesn’t history repeat its self??? What was so remember-able during the great depression??? The Dust Bowl. I worry that many are not prepared, nor have the ability to prepare!
The only God that exists with prayer can do anything and change anything! GOD said “There are no Gods before me!” Time to get back to basics and announce the coming of Jesus! GOD will procure when you truly believe in your heart without any doubts!
I am very thankful for even the hard times I have gone through! GOD IS LOVE, LIFE AND LIBERTY!
REMEMBER TO VOTE! (HAD ENOUGH???)

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 6:32pmDON’T MESS WITH TEXAS! Leave our governor alone, he knows what he is doing and so do I. I have worked for the Governor”s Office and know the culture to be strong and smart. Though we may come off country we hide and watch those who think they are smarter than are we. We do alright out here and still have hope that prayer works when enough of us get on our knees to God. I would pray for our President, but I fear he is on a different bent. As a Texan by choice, it also makes me happy that my governor believes in prayer and never leaves God out of the pledge or the Declaration of Independence. His declaration does no harm to anyone and may even help.

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 6:26pmI live in Texas and am a devout Catholic. I do not believe Governor Perry had any intentions of “bumping Easter”. He just knows that we need the rain and that must come from God. If you aren’t from Texas you probably “don’t get it”. If you are from Texas you should be “Texas Proud”. Governor Perry hasn’t been the perfect Governor by any means but Thank God he is leading our state now. Can you imagine how Bill White would have just handed Texas over to the Liberal Democrats in the White House? I thank God for Rick Perry!

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 6:24pmGovernor of Georgia did this 2-3 years ago when they had a historic drought of 17ft + below normal, (17ft). They had a prayer meeting at the State Capital in Atlanta & within months/year all lakes & streams were back.
Prayer works & maybe we all should pray for this historic drought in morality we have in the Shining City on the Hill.

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 6:17pmI live in Texas and Gov Perry is ten million times better than Pres Obama… PERIOD. Rain dance or no, silliness or no… ten million times better.
That said, we almost had to evacuate where I live (fortunately, the local VFD – with A LOT of help from other cities and counties – was able to get the 10 miles across fire under control in the nick of time). Without the leadership of Gov Perry, these catastophes would have easily put this state under in the current economy. He‘s amazing and it’s no wonder that so many want to live here. I still stand behind Rick Perry.

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 6:17pmI’m not the biggest Rick Perry fan in the world, but come on people, this man is standing up and asking for prayer to stop a really bad force of nature that is destroying homes in my state. Not only is there nothing wrong or cynical with this, I’m actually pretty proud of the guy. All Christians should be. It’s getting increasingly more difficult for people to stand up and profess our faith in public. Asking for prayer is a great solution to these fires. I commend Rick and I hope he asks for more prayer on other pressing issues. God bless the Lone Star State!

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 6:16pmWhy is the Blaze attempting to mock Rick Perry with the headline: “….PRAY TO RAIN GODS…”? The proclamation simply calls for prayer, and it is well known that Rick perry is a devout Christian. Prayer is always good – Praying to God is always helpful, in any situation. Texas is experiencing severe drought conditions, wildfires and water rationing – a call for prayer is one of the few things that can be done at this point. Gov. Rick Perry should be praised, not mocked – he understands the power of God, the power of prayer, and the power of hope.

what constitutes a false idol? you think that because your holy book of choice, written by man, tells you that. but christianity is hardly the oldest religion or the most popular. plus, the story of jesus steals from previous stories from other religions. you might as well worship humpty dumpty.
it‘s dumb for you to say that the god’s worshipped by non-christians are false just be cause your history/fantasy book of passed down stories tells you that. your reward is being here, now, alive. you’re the fool for wasting it on superstition.

Posted on April 22, 2011 at 1:11pmThe prayer of the Muslim, Buddhist, and Hindu matters no less to God than the prayer of the Christian. To say otherwise is to commit the sin of pride (MY prayer is so much better than YOUR prayer). What matters is the faith of the individual that their god will hear them, and even if they are praying to a non-existent individual, the real, living God will still hear them and bless them according to their faith. Please, Blazers, don’t be like the liberals with their stifling pride.

I think most people who attack have never gone out of their way to talk to people on the other side or read blogs of people on the other side. If they did long enough, they would see people of all political persuasions really want the same things, they just agree on how to get there. It is those in power you can argue have bad intentions, but the worst thing the average voter can be is ignorant.
