Ousted 5th Grader Speaks! Watch Grayson Thomas Describe What Happened to Him After He Said a Local TV Anchor Looked Like Obama

Since The Blaze initially reported that a fifth grader was kicked out of his elementary school allegedly for saying a local newscaster resembles Barack Obama, the student—Grayson Thomas—has shared details about his ordeal in a videotaped interview.
A recap, according to Grayson and his father, Darren:
Chris Schauble, a Los Angeles TV news anchor, was visiting Stevenson Ranch Elementary School near Santa Clarita, Ca., to have lunch with his daughter, Shelbi, early last month. Grayson—then a schoolmate of Shelbi’s—noticed Schauble drawing a crowd, talking with people and shaking hands, and commented to friends that Schauble looks like President Barack Obama.
When Shelbi learned of Grayson’s comments, she complained to school officials and claimed racism. Grayson, 11, was sent home that day, and his interdistrict transfer was revoked, permanently removing him from the school. Darren told The Blaze that school officials, despite never hearing Grayson’s comments first-hand, interpreted them as meaning “all black men look alike,” a charge Grayson has repeatedly denied. School officials claimed confidentiality laws and would not comment to The Blaze; Schauble did not respond to interview requests from The Blaze.
In the videotaped interview, Grayson says that while he was sitting in the school office before officials sent him home, he heard principal Candace Fleece telling Newhall School District superintendent Marc Winger over the phone that Grayson’s remarks meant that “all black men look alike” and were stated in “a spirit of making fun of [Schauble].” He adds that he also overheard Fleece phone Schauble to apologize for Grayson’s comments.
In an interview with The Blaze last night, Grayson said he was seated next to Fleece’s closed office door but could hear her speaking through it and that she addressed Winger and Schauble by name in separate phone calls.
Grayson denies his comments meant all black men look alike and says he simply observed that Schauble resembled Obama. School officials declined to comment on the video interview with Grayson (and the interview with his father Darren) posted by Cougar News Online.
Here’s the full interview with Grayson (below it is the full interview with Darren, in which he says Schauble should not be blamed for how the school district has treated Grayson):
In The Blaze interview with Grayson last night, he also confirmed that Shelbi did not hear first-hand his comments about her father and Obama; nevertheless she and her friends confronted Grayson later, with Shelbi telling Grayson that “you and your family have no life.”
Since the incident, Grayson has been attending Tesoro Del Valle Elementary of neighboring Saugus Union School District. While his father Darren says they have no interest in Grayson returning to Stevenson Ranch even if Newhall offered it, he still wants a public apology from Winger and Fleece. He and his family have not ruled out legal action, he said.
“[They]‘ve empowered a young girl, and all kids connected with this girl,” Darren originally told The Blaze, “[to believe] that ‘If I don’t like you, all I have to do is say racism and you’re done.’”

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 8:50pmThis was facilitated by way of mouth—and simply because one little girl INTERPRETED a comment to mean something it never did. Shouldn’t she be pleased someone said her daddy looked like Obama? This is, as the father said, a systemic problem. In a futile attempt to placate progressives and some minorities, they created a situation that didn’t exist and it amounts to a thought crime. They took the position of assuming what it meant and followed up by punishing him based on that and that alone. This school needs to be reported on every day until they explain the problem. The dad has it right—if it is a problem that would get him kicked out, it needs to be on his record. The school won’t do that though because they know they would never walk out of that fight with the winning ticket.

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 10:19pmThis is so pathetic – yellow journalism at its worst. First of all the horribly Photoshopped, totally fake image of the kid. The National Enquirer has higher standards for fake photographs. And yet it is posted here as though it were a real image. And you look at it and don’t realize you have been fooled. Come on. Look at it.
The idea that a school would kick a student out of school for saying that a newscaster “looked like President Obama” is absurd. You’d have to be mentally retarded to believe that was true. But you guys aren’t mentally retarded, that much I know. You know this story isn’t true. A kid says “hey this guy looks like Obama” and the school permanently kicks him out? Please.
Of course the school can’t say anything because the child is a minor (although, if you look elsewhere the school has suggested both the kid and parents have been spoken to several times). So the kid and his parents can say anything, and this website publishes every word. You don’t believe it really, because you’re not stupid, but you want to.
One thing is for sure, this kid is not going to be the next Thomas Jefferson.

Why is this story hard to believe? My nephew’s 7 year old son was given a 3 day suspension for drawing a picture of a handgun. Not having one, or even a toy one, but a PICTURE of one. Violated the “zero tolerance” policy, you see. In schools today, PC has run amok. Wearing an American flag on your shirt at school on a Mexican holiday can get you sent home. Bringing a Bible to school can get you sent home.Wearing clothes with religious themes is considered “offensive”, unless of course it’s Islamic clothing. Our culture has fallen down the bunny hole, and now up is down, black is white and what was once considered normal and virtuous in our society is now anathema. And they wonder why we’re pissed off.

I think I know something about the case since I’m the father of Grayson Thomas. Yes indeed the facts are accurate and verifiable. The problem most sane people are having with the story are the facts. This wouldn’t be a story if the facts were wrong. My son was kicked out of the school for the reasons stated. If you think this is nuts then just read the papers and watch the news, it’s happening all over. There is no lack of stupidity among our school administrators.
One more thing… I’m extremely proud of my son for dealing with the situation. He‘s not a perfect kid but as a parent I’ll defend him when he’s right and in the case HE”S RIGHT!!!!! I promise you, you never want to live through this little piece of hell, I‘d much rather be spending my time and energy on other things but as Beck says we must all do something so I’m doing something.
BTW- Yes the photo was photoshopped- it was satire!!!! Apparently it was lost on you!

Posted on December 6, 2011 at 5:56amSounds to me like those in charge at that school are really racist because they took this innocent statement about one person resembling another and made it a racist statement. The school should be ask is it their opinion that all black people look alike? Its sounds to me that it was them who was making this statement and then trying to cover up what they believe to be true. I don’t think all black people look alike but I think these liberals do. Liberals try to lump all black people into one group and if any of them seek to be individuals then they are told they are trying to be white and are no longer black. I think these racist at that school should be investigated and loose their jobs.

“Sure Billy, all legitimate news sources post fake photographs without any reference to that fact, just like the National Enquirer. Isn’t that what I said? The Wall Street Journal does it all the time, same as the New York Times. Fooled you I bet until I called it out.”
So clearly you’re not aware of how Reuters has been known to doctor or alter their photos – a quick Google search will show you a number of instances where this news organization has manipulated the images to either withhold information or create an entirely different spin on the facts.

Posted on December 7, 2011 at 10:24pm@ JZS, I believe every word of this, because nearly the exact same thing happened to my son while attending Dillard Drive Middle School in Raleigh, NC. He drew a picture referencing one of the jokes that a racist comedian on BET (Black Entertainment Channel) used. Some black children at the school took issue with it, and four of them surrounded and started picking a fight with him at lunch. This physical violence is how the teachers learned of the incident. My son was suspended for “intimidation”. No action was taken against those attempting physical violence.
The assistant principal held a grudge, and my son eventually ended up serving a 9 month probation passed down from a black judge.
@Mr. Grayson, the deck is stacked against you. They make all the rules, and without many thousands of dollars to spend, the lawyers won’t even give you the time of day. They will bury you and no one will care. My run in happened 4 years ago, and my son is a graduating senior this year. Memories of the ordeal still fill me with anger and a sense of betrayal. I wish you all the luck and encouragement in the world. Racist school administrators are attacking our children. No one wants to admit it, but it is real.

One little thing happens that they can’t control (like other people’s thoughts and comments) and they react like headless chickens running around in circles: reactionary, paranoid and totally predictable. Just once, it would be refreshing to hear of a school reminding a student(like Shelbi) that other students have a right to free speech and that no one said anything that was even remotely derogatory towards her father. Had it been a black, hispanic, or muslim child it would have been overlooked. Our children are no longer safe even in our schools. Now that’s betrayal for you, now that’s a liar, now that‘s the kind of pathetic President America has in it’s White House. Just like the TSA, looking for bombs in a child’s diaper, and strip searching 85 year olds, this President has perverted ideas about how to treat Americans.
The best thing to do, is ignore Obama, he’ll soon be gone. This fool too shall pass.

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 7:47pmwow way to let the spoiled little brat of a girl run the show because she is a person of color. I am beyond tired of liberals who claim to see no color seeing racism everywhere. This boy needs to sue and I am usually completely against suing schools. You do not treat children this way.

This little boy was just comenting on something that really was about nothing except the girl made something out of it. I am getting tired of blacks thinking that every little thing is about them. Posted on December 5, 2011 at 7:46pmWell I do hold Chris Schauble responsible for some of this. His daughter felt empowered to claim racism from someone and my guess is that someone is her Mom and Dad. He could have helped calm the troubled waters too if he had stepped up and denounced the charge of racism and over reaction from the school.
What the Schauble family don’t seem to realize is the damage that this episode has caused. I’m angry over it. I hate the hypocrisy. I hate the double standards and people all over the country apparently feel the same way.
If the Schaubles and the school officials had been TRYING to set back racial relations they couldn’t have done a better job.

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 8:06pmNo doubt. Number 1, these are 11 year olds. Second of all, we just had debate about this subject in class, concerning the way we treat our elders in America and the known discrimination that exists. While in countries such as Japan, the elders are highly respected. I brought up the notion that the problem is that the youth, the freaks, the weirdo’s, the geeks, all learned the notion of empowerment. This has been the growing trend as those of our younger generations have found that they can find means to gain power, attention, and even popularity in certain cases by calling attention to their contrasting social differences. This all started with the progressive dem‘s and repub’s of as far back as the 1930′s, begging a trend where politicians promised the world to get elected, telling the people to go about enjoying their leisure time, just pay your taxes and they will take care of matters through government body means. This also lead to promoting the individual and not so much in those historical days, but eventually became a notion that lent itself to a place where nobody is responsible for anything in this world, not even making friendships with their neighbors. People are no longer concerned with the poor or the elderly because that is the job of the government, they can’t be bothered. Slowly but surely, we have the Mom coming to school forcing them to change policy so it suits their child, having no social consequences from the community because they aren’t part of i

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 7:42pmI am so sick of the public schools. I emailed the Principal to this kids school to let him know it was wrong for sending him home! I also think this sexual harassment of a 9 yr old boy for saying his teacher was cute??? I am tired of the crap they pull at these schools. My sons class is having MAJOR problems with snack time! For some reason she is making them have 2 snack times a day for 1st graders. I send in 2 snacks for my child. They HAVE TO put their 2 snacks in a communal bucket. Then at snack time they take 1 of their 2 snacks and then the 2nd snack time they are supposed to take their second one. The problem is, many kids do not bring a second snack in OR any. So when the bucket goes around my sons second snack is taken and he ends up with none for his second snack time! I am tired of this crap. This is the 2nd time I have had to talk with the teacher about this. This is the last time, next time i will have to talk to the principal about this. I wish I could afford to feed every kid in his class, but I cannot. I came up with the idea of possibly asking parents once a month if they can bring in an extra snack then they would have 20 extra snacks for kids that don’t bring in any. I am sick of my kid bringing in snacks and he can’t even eat them! I asked her if she could PLEASE allow him to keep his snacks in HIS backpack and he will get them when it is snack time. I mean really, should I have to tell her this?

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 7:38pmA wise man once said that it’s easier to wear shoes than to carpet the entire Earth. This wisdom is lost on liberals. Instead of trying to outlaw views that they don’t like, they should be teaching people not to get offended at stupid things people say. As Glenn likes to say, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.”. It’s scary what these out-of-control union thugs posing as teachers are trying to do to America’s kids.
Even if he said that all black people look alike, he shouldn’t be removed from that school. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion whether it’s politically correct or not. If someone said that all white people look alike, surely the school’s reaction would have been different.

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 7:33pmNobody said this kid was a saint, he just observed that Schauble looked like Obama. WELL HE DOES YOU IDIOTS. There I said it, so now I am racist too and meant that all blacks look alike.
Can we just use common sense here or is that too much to ask of people? Can we all drop the race card. If you want racism to stop then all you who pull the race card must stop being the instigators. You are the ones that see color in everything and every statement; so before you accuse someone as being a racist, perhaps you need to look long and hard in the mirror.
The only racist I see in this story is the daughter, who got the story WRONG!

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 7:32pmYeah I was with the premise of the story thinking he got a raw deal until I saw this line. The kid had 2 incidents on his record (one was theft and another of verbal harassment). The kid probably isn’t as innocent as we might think. Where are interviews with the kids that supposedly heard something? I have a feeling the district being this hard-nosed about NOT giving an apology means they probably have more info than his father has. The kid should learn, you get a gift (get to transfer to a better school), you had better live up to the standards that warrant such a gift. Like spandex, its a privilege, not a right.
