Outgoing Obama ‘Car Czar’ Makes Yet Another Communist Reference

Ron Bloom Thousand Hundred Flowers Mao Tse Tung Communist China UnionsWell, the bloom appears to have fallen off the rose for Ron Bloom — special assistant to the president for manufacturing policy – and man who in the past has revealed a curious respect for communist leader Mao Tse-Tung. The former “car czar,“ and architect of the auto bailout who once said the ”free market is nonsense,” announced last Tuesday that he will be leaving the White House.

But buried in a story on Politico’s website about the departure is yet another seemingly veiled reference to Mao.

Bloom, who worked as an investment banker and then as a negotiator for the United Steelworkers union before entering a career in government, began his tenure with the Obama administration back in 2009 as an automotive senior adviser to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

Still, what Bloom might best be known for is his past comments about Mao and communist China.

During a keynote speech in 2008 at the 6th Annual Distressed Investing Forum at the Union League Club, Bloom spoke about a union’s role in bankruptcy and restructuring, saying he “agreed” with Mao that “political power comes largely from the barrel of a gun.”

“Generally speaking, we get the joke,” Bloom started. “We know that the free market is nonsense. We know that the whole point is to game the system, to beat the market or at least find someone who will pay you a lot of money, ’cause they’re convinced that there is a free lunch.”

“We know this is largely about power, that it’s an adults only no limit game. We kind of agree with Mao that political power comes largely from the barrel of a gun. And we get it that if you want a friend you should get a dog.”

The Blaze‘s Pam Key first brought us the video of Bloom’s eyebrow-raising keynote address:

Back then, those comments caught the attention of Glenn Beck, who took Bloom to task on a multitude of occasions for Bloom’s apparent disdain for the free market and his Mao-love. For example, he made Bloom’s remarks the topic of a segment on his TV show:

And during one of his radio programs in 2009, Beck wondered why no other journalist seemed to care or find Bloom’s background the least bit interesting:

“We have a guy who has now been appointed as the manufacturing czar and he doesn’t believe in the free market system? Oh, and he pretty much agrees with Mao that power comes from the end in the barrel of a gun. Do you? Do you believe that, that power comes from the barrel of a gun? Do you believe that? … If you are going to point a gun to my head, you do have a lot of power. But beyond in the.. totally evil sort of way, no, I don’t agree with that.”

But Beck wasn’t the only one. This past June, Congressman Connie Mack grilled Bloom at hearing held by the House of Representative’s Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs, Stimulus Oversight and Government Spending. During that hearing, Mach pressed Bloom about his role in the General Motors and Chrysler bailouts, asking a litany of tough questions regarding several of Bloom’s remarks in which he referred to union tactics as “gaming the system,” as well as for quoting Mao. Mack also asked Bloom if his union background should have disqualified him from heading the Obama initiatives:

Not surprisingly, Bloom denied any affection for chairman Mao, saying he only made the comment in jest.

That brings us to this month. In an article last week, Politico ended its story on Bloom’s resignation with a curious quote. In reference to  Obama attempting to forge a partnership between manufacturers in several states and academia — in order to revitalize American factories — Bloom apparently saw something Mao-esque in the way government was attempting to support private business, stating the approach would, “let the great thousand flowers bloom in America.”

If that sounds familiar, it should.

While the correct wording is in fact a “hundred flowers,” there is no question as to where the phrase derives from. Back in the summer of 1957 in the People’s Republic of China, a movement emerged called the “Hundred Flowers Campaign,” during which the Communist Party allegedly encouraged those with diverse view points to step forward and share their ideas with a view to “letting a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend is the policy for promoting progress in the arts and the sciences and a flourishing socialist culture in our land.”

Of course it was all a ploy, implemented to out as many free-thinkers and dissidents as the regime possibly could. Not surprisingly, Mao punished many who participated in the Hundred Flowers Movement until finally reimposing his oppressive policy on public expression.

So, if his past Mao comments were a joke, then why would Bloom make yet another reference to Mao, this time with regard to American manufacturing? Is he implying Mao’s Hundred Flowers campaign actually born out of good intentions? Did Bloom mean to say that the Obama administration was then letting “a hundred schools of thought contend” in a “policy for promoting progress” in American factories? That very well could be the case. Or perhaps, Bloom made the comment as a dig to all of those, like Beck and Mack, who have called the former union worker out on his ideological leanings.

So many questions.

Either way, it remains unclear where Bloom may be headed next. A good guess? Perhaps he will take a consulting job at a manufacturing plant in China.

I agree. Used to be (and I’m talking as far back as 2008) one could by what we Texans call a Hoopdie (or in your words a disposable car) for around $500. I know, I bought one. It was a Mercedes with a sound engine, but not very cosmetic. This is probably due to cash for clunkers in part, but also to the printing of money. A dollar is worth 80 cents now. We had an Aldi’s open up here in Texas and was selling milk for 99 cents a gallon a year ago. Now it’s 1.89. That’s almost 100% increase.

If you have any interaction with people who repair their own cars, take a 2nd look at “Cash for Clunkers”! Most of these people, (including my 3 sons in their teens & early 20′s ) make frequent trips to Junk Yards for parts.
Clinton did his part by insisting that junk yards break down and salvage junk cars immediately, making it more difficult to get used car parts, but there‘s still a little time they’re allowed on the lot. Cars for clunkers demanded that ALL DEALERS POUR ACID IN ENGINES IMMEDIATELY ON COMPLETING PAPERWORK ( I seem to remember the ruckus when the first monies was run out and people‘s cars were inoperable so they couldn’t return them, leaving these applicants high and dry! ) WITH THE ACID IN THE ENGINES, THE PARTS WERE TAKEN OFF MARKET, THUS RAISING THE PRICE OF ALL PARTS FOR VEHICLES IN THOSE YEARS!
That whole program was just one more way to keep American’s from scraping by in hard times. Notice with the recent regulations on farm tractors and implements, food will also be a commodity in short supply. I fear we may be headed for days like those of the Soviet Union when crop failures caused starvation deaths, and American food and grain sat on railroad sidings in remote areas and rotted as it happened! I guess they think that America need her “Come uppance!

No, many of them are Maoists, which is a much more virulent form of communism than even Joe Stalin practiced. You should look it up.
Maoism was promoted by Mao and a small clique of his advisors and it said that Mao was infallible and just his thoughts could make things happen. Everyone needs to read up on Mao, as he killed around 70,000,000 Chinese people to further his own ambitions.
This is the type of thinking we have seen from several Whitehouse advisors (re Anita Dunn).

Think about it, if FED artificially creates interest rate and money supply for the whole country, if the government picks and chooses who will be to bailed out and who will fail, who will be exempt from regulations and who will comply, then

    - it is all CENTRAL PLANNING

The way things are set up, he is a law unto himself. You are wrong. According to our Constitution, they have as much right to speak and express their opinions as anybody else. It is called FREE SPEECH, and it applies to all–not just those we agree with. That said, however, there is NO reason we have to turn the freakin’ GOVERNMENT over to these moonbats, and the sooner we get them OUT Of the government, the safer this country will be. But rounding people up and imprisoning them–even though you are a disgusting liberal troll and trying to be “cute” and “sarcastic”, is NEVER a good idea. Because that kind of tyrannical government requires victims–great numbers of them. And when they run out of people who disagree with them, they just change the rules and go after those who previously agreed with them. You should take note. If you had your way and really got this kind of government, they would eventually be coming for YOU. This is just one more example of how you liberal moonbats have ZERO understanding of what freedom means and how it works. YOUR idea of freedom is freedom for anybody who agrees with you and DEATH (and/or imprisonment) for anybody that doesn’t. This is a classic totalitarian Communist stance. Congratulations–now you’re right up there with Lenin and Stalin–one of the greatest mass murderers in the history of the world.

Actually Czar is not a commie term. The commies overthrew the Czar in the revolution. The Czars were the monarchy. .

what should we expect, we have Czars in the whitehouse. Czars, is a commie term. to our current pres O-bummer, the thinks the C, in the phrase commander in cheif, stands for Czar. so in his mind it is commander in czar
      ***
Did you mean to say he thinks he’s really “Czar in Chief” and they just miswrote it as Commander?

The president has also SHOWN us that he is a communist revolutionary.

The only “hope” I see is the fact that he‘s campaigning so hard must indicate that he hasn’t yet accomplished all that he needs to do. He’s done a LOT to take this country down, but he’s not finished.

I believe the only reason he hasn’t declared himself “president for life” is that he is not sure the military will back his play–and traditionally, those kinds of power coups do not succeed, unless the would-be dictator has the support of the military. I sincerely hope that our military are good Americans and would NOT back an attempt by anybody to set themselves up as a dictator. You would think this “professor of Constitutional law” and Harvard grad would KNOW that–but maybe not, because as Harvard graduates go, this one is not the brightest crayon in the box, is he?

The little quip he made during the debt ceiling debates about how it was tempting to just “act like a dictator” and do whatever he wanted regardless of what anybody in Congress thought”, I believe was a “trial balloon” he floating to see what kind of reaction he would get. Unfortunately, the Pravda media that gratifies his every whim worked against him on this one. Since that was an inflammatory remark that had the potential to cause him all KINDS of political grief (as most anything he ad libs without a teleprompter tends to be), they dutifully ignored the whole thing and did NOT report it. As a result, few people heard it, and therefore did not react.

Why would he float a trial balloon? Because he is not particularly brave. He may be power-mad like his heroes Lenin and Mao, but he doesn’t want to get his a$$ shot off trying to seize power.

He‘ll pop up at the Center for American Progress or whatever they’re calling ACORN now – one of those Soros’ entities. And he’ll still be slipping legislation to Obama along with the rest of these evil enterprises. That jobs plan Obama promises after Labor Day? Undoubtedly Soros folks are working late writing it for him. We have a shadow government.

That’s why the Eared One had to go on vacation–he needs to hide until Soros tells him what to say, because he does not have a CLUE, unless somebody writes the script for him and puts it on a teleprompter. JOBS plan? Hah!! Like he really has one! I have seen no evidence that he has any plans at all, except to keep his sorry a$$ in the White House for 4 more years. God forbid! We MUST get this clown out of the White House before he finishes the job of destroying our country and our freedoms.

I hope your right but they are not on the mat just yet, there is still plenty of time for them to seize total control of these United States through many a venue, false flag event, econ collapse…martial law ensues. Lets hope it doesn’t come to that and we will recall this period was as close this country ever came to socialism. A bleak blot on our history I can live with. With them in total control…none of us will be here speaking our minds.

The progressives are currently trying to stir up trouble. They have kicked the rhetoric up a notch with the “terrorist”, “hostage” and class warfare nonsense. They want their useful idiots to rise up and create chaos. That will give Obama many new options including martial law.

An interesting question would be, HOW was the SOB able to put all these people into the government by presidential appointment with NO Congressional oversight, in the FIRST place? Last time I looked, that was totally unconstitutional–and yet not one WHIMPER of protest from our gutless Congress. We have more problems than just ODUMBER–there is the corrupt, ethically-challenged CONGRESS that cares for NOTHING except keeping their personal gravy train of fat salaries and perks at public expense on the tracks.
