Outrage Erupts After Army Revealed to Use ‘Anti-Muslim’ Training Materials

When one is at war with a country, or nation, it‘s generally considered advisable to learn as much as possible about that nation’s history, previous military victories, culture, and any other relevant information that might make defeating them more easy.

But what happens when one is at war with an idea – specifically, a religious idea? To say the situation gets complicated is a serious understatement, as the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, is currently demonstrating after outcry erupted about an elective course being taught at the school. The course in question, according to documents originally obtained by the website Wired.com, apparently contained some highly politically incorrect ideas about the religion of Islam. Some slides from the course follow as we proceed with the story.

A little background is both necessary and helpful. According to the original report from Wired, Colonel Robert Dooley, an instructor at the Staff College, taught an unspecified course which apparently included material on how military officers ought to view Islam’s relationship to global terror.

The material was openly controversial, in that it treated Islam as akin to communism in its goals of absolute global domination, and very clearly scorned the idea of moderate Islam (Wired has speculated that it may have been influenced by the work of authors such as Robert Spencer). Moreover, the materials advocated for tactics that many see as morally questionable – for instance, targeting Islamic civilians.

However, now that they have been uncovered, an outcry has erupted regarding them. MSNBC brings further details:

“This is Abu Ghraib by power point and lectern,” said Mikey Weinstein, president of the nonprofit Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), referring to the scandal that erupted in 2004 after the surfacing of torrid pictures of U.S. troops abusing prisoners in Iraq. “It’s even worse than Abu Ghraib. What they are talking about is essentially genocide,” of Muslims.

The military announced a review of its training materials and canceled the “Perspectives” course in late April. The action came after an FBI review resulted in the elimination of reams of materials that were found to be discriminatory against Muslims, treating the whole population with suspicion.

The details coming to light from the the 8-week course at an elite military institution — taught to officers since 2004 — have shocked even those who have long complained about discrimination against Muslims.[...]

Instructor Lt. Col. Matthew Dooley, the main focus of the criticism, taught that the Geneva Conventions that set standards of armed conflict are “no longer relevant.”[...]

On Thursday, the Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey called the course “totally objectionable” and “against our values.”

Along with the official response, lawsuits have also been filed under the Freedom of Information Act to get the full story on Col. Dooley’s courses, and organizations have called for Dooley to be fired, and all of his former students to be retrained not to agree with this material. Among those groups making such calls are CAIR and the Arab American Anti-Discrimination Committee. Judging by the official response from the Pentagon, it seems that they are likely to cooperate.

      The part that really bothers me about this story is that far more “scandals” have happened under the Muslim-in-Chief than under Bush, including this one. So why are they linking it to Abu Graib? From this day forward, any liberal kidnapped, raped, tortured and/or murdered by Islamists is no concern of mine.

      Read the Koran. Understand that the later passages in the Koran superscede the earlier passages. Then, if you stupidly persist in the belief that Islam is a religion of peace that is similar to Christianity, then bury your head back in the sand like an ostrich and wait until they get around to collecting your head.

      @historyguy – being so learned in the Koran you must understand that the surahs are organized by length and not by date. Because a surah is shorter and therefore later in the Koran, it is given more credence? I would love to see a citation for that fact.

      Neither Christianity nor Islam are religions of peace or war. Religion is simply another tool to be manipulated for political and military gain. Christians are quick to point out Muhammad’s warlike nature, but are quick to forget that Christianity was one of many large, but marginalized cults in the Roman Empire and only became the religion of power with Constantine’s acceptance. Constantine who legendarily converted after receiving revelation that belief in the Christian God would grant him victory over his political enemies at Milvian Bridge. That story of victory through Christian faith, such as Clovis’ conversion and subsequent victory over the Alemanni, were popular tools for converting warlike pagans in the Middle Ages that still influence Christian belief today. Every other story about the military on the Blaze celebrates its religiosity and condemns any atheism in the military.

      The point is that defining the struggle against terrorists as one against faith makes the war broader and unwinnable.       As time goes on, it will become increasingly evident that apostasy and deportation are the only viable options to reduce and eliminate Islamic culture from infecting and destroying American culture.

      It really isn’t that offensive considering the alternatives (of which I am not opposed) of total war and the taking of muslim territory with the goal of converting those lands to Western lands. I can support that endeavor as well.

      For America, we need to close all mosques and outlaw the practice of Islam. Those muslims living here will have to opportunity to apostate or be deported. It is not so bad a thing considering what Americans are capable of doing to enemies of the Constitution.

      Recovering- Do you think we have only one enemy?       Incorrect. The organization notwithstanding, the later surahs supercede the earlier through abrogation. You need to use hadiths as a key to discern which beat which on the timeline, the main boundary being the hijra (هِجْرَة).

      Sorry but there is simply ZERO chance that America or the West can survive (as free Western civilizations with human rights, rule of law, democracy) with Islam within our borders. It isn’t a matter of what you or I “want” or don’t want, it is simply reality. There are no examples of civilizations have have survived Islam within their borders. Spain, after centuries of fighting got them out, now they are allowing them back in for a slow surrender. India split off half their country to give to the Muslims as Pakistan, but they are still being attacked by the Muslims. Islam in America will nibble around the edges until they have 51% of the vote and then just eliminate the so-called rights in our laws that go against Islam. You can “fight” but that doesn’t mean anything. Any politician or judge who goes against Islam will have their house firebombed by a mob of Muslims, their limbs torn off their body. So while you guard you back yard with your shotgun, the Muslims will take over elsewhere, and your “fight” will accomplish nothing. Once enough Muslims are in the police and military they will just come and arrest you for being anti-Islamic. It isn’t defeatist to face reality, I say stop all Islamic immigration now, and begin to reverse what has already occurred, paying Muslims to leave if necessary.

      Recovering- you are correct that they follow the same god but the difference is that when Abrahams sons split they started the foundations of two separate faiths, one to Judaism, one to Islam, both had prophets that performed a reformation, Christ taught love and forgiveness, Muhammed taught tyranny and destrution.       I grew up during “The Cold War” We were told the Soviets were Evil, Crazy with World Domination, Experimenting with humans, heck I remember one story that they were breeding people just for the Olympics. Don’t you rember the Bomb Shelters being Built everywhere?? Because they were going to Nuke us at anytime. When the Soviet Union came crashing down what did we see? People trying to raise a family, going to work, worrying about bills and their kids education, etc. They were putting their pants on the same way we were. But now you take the Governments of the World Oh yes they are all the same also. Always finding you an enemy to hate and fear. Good way to keep the eyes of the People off of the real enemy.

      Recovering – I also have three freinds, two grew up in communist Romania, One in the USSR, they railed against what is going on in this country explaining to me that this is how it started in there countries and what happened to their grandparents and parents, they asked me why are Americans so stupid not to see theses communists and what they are doing, I had no reply that would suffice, they grew up scared for there lives and are scared of the direction of this country because they know all to well what it leads to. The enemies of America are numerous, from outside and from within, we are trained in school and in colleges to be good little progressives, we are bombarded with a pro progressive media that mis informs and manipulates the truth, what do you expect people in this country to beleive. You are focused on one enemy it seems but forget the others that will stabb you in the back when your attention has been drawn away, I think that is where we are at in this country today, It seems like it is us against the world.

      Maybe I’m poorly articulating my position on this subject of the enemies of the People. I believe that the greatest threat is coming from within (not the only threat), by both Parties and all levels of Government. I think you said it best “You are focused on one enemy it seems but forget the others that will stabb you in the back when your attention has been drawn away”. The Military Industrial Complex and our Government make sure we have these enemies thru Foreign Policy, but Governments in general always make sure their people have an enemy to focus on. If the threat of Islamic Terrorists is so great tell me why are borders are still wide open over a decade later since the beginning of the War on Terror. Leave the Borders open but pass laws that take the Peoples Liberties and Freedoms away? Here are a few examples

      Federal Aviation Administration Act
      National Defense Authorization Act
      Patriot Act Provisions
      CISPA

      Next time you talk to your Romanian friends you may want to inform them that is was the Foreign Policy of the US that gave Eastern Europe to the Soviets. Making them all Communist Countries and enemies of the United States. Cold War ring a bell?

      Chistianity was spread via the Roman Emperor Constantine, c 333 ad, who, with Christian Legions of Northern Europe, defeated the Roman Candidates of Rome… moved the Capital from Rome to Constantinople… and make Christianity the State Temple of Rome… thus Christianity was spread in the East & West.
      Caliph means “Successor” to Mohammed, where… there have been 8 Dynasties of Rulers… and the current, Ahamiyya, Caliph lives in London… where the previous Capitals were Damascus, Cordoba, Cairo… and Constantinople, after they overthrough the Roman Empire in East and continued their Holy War upon all Foreign Civilizations.

    These people would be apoplectic if they saw and heard what we were taught in Marine Corps boot camp in 1967. We KNEW who the enemy was and there were no polite, non-racial terms used. The VC were described in terms that would make your liberal of today faint. If you can’t describe your enemy and know them, you will be defeated. We should call these muslims out for what they are and quit playing PC games. They are EVIL.

      They declared war on us more tan 40 years ago and we ignored them. It’s been one attack after another from them – in every region of that world. Name a muslim country andthey have attacked us or our intrests here in the west.

      It’ never been a war on terrorism – terrorism is just a war tactic like guerrilla warfare. Litigation jihad has been another tactic as is their population bombs by out breeding us. It’s ALL to one purpose!

      I would have nuked mecca or medina right after 911 – along with 3 other muslim cities. THAT would have set a nice message that we are NOT going to put up wih their invasion crap! And if another attack happened I’d go after the other holy city.

      Until we realiz WHAT we are fighting we will NEVER win this war.

      I know a Muslim, who was in the Armed forces. One could classify him as “moderate”.

      His view was that there were few Jews in the old country & that was a good thing. God forbid that the Jews might increase from .1% to .2%. There might be a jihad resulting in genocide. His views on Christians was the Bible was banned from being imported to the old country. So Korans can be imported to the U.S. by Muslim organizations, but Bibles cannot be imported to a Muslim country. He thought that was a good thing.

      So what is a moderate Muslim?

      If there is no reciprocity, there is no respect or tolerance. You don’t have a leg to stand on “The Calm Voice of Reason”.

      calm voice of reason, well then what is this war about? You believe in reason, well so do I. But remember, there are only two ways humans can settle disagreements, force or reason. No other way, it can be a combination of the two but in the long run it comes down to those two options. So, in order to reason with someone you have to some shared common goals or values. Islam is a religion that is both religious and political unlike Christianity which has no political ideology. Don’t start talking about crusades,etc., as they were aberrations, not what Jesus taught. Mohammed taught violence to advance Islam and believed in setting up on earth a kingdom of Allah as opposed to Jesus who condemned that very thing. It is very hard to reason with someone who does not share any of your values or beliefs As a result, force is the only option left to deal with this ideology..

      did you know that in islam the way they take over is by population growth and conversion of infidels! But some people don’t undestand they have procedures to grow into a society! Like they have lots of kids, and they are your next door neighbors. They also marry american women. Its so they can have kids and for residency. At a certain point they bring in an imam once their popualtion increases. At this point the kids are taught strict islam, reciting the koran, girls and women are separated during prayers. At a certain pt. when they have numbers they’re women and girls are made to wear the Hijabb. Eventually they take over an area where strict islamic law is enforced! Right now look at England! Cops won’t go into certain muslim areas! Then when this happens, bring sharia into the court systems! Eventually its Sharia for muslims and others have their own judicial systems. Honor killings are fathers and male relatives that are strict Sharia. Now they may tell you they’re moderate, but this is all planned out for them! They‘re only moderate to advance they’re numbers! Look at India and all the Budist statues that were torn down, muslims don’t, and won’t allow other faiths to flurrish! Turkey, Iraq, Nigeria, Sudan, all these countries had large populations of Christians and Jews yet they seem to be disappearing. Churches gone, Synagogues burned.
