‘Oye – They Shot Me’: Campaign Worker Shot Near South Texas Polling Station

A man was shot near a polling station in San Juan, Texas while campaigning for a local candidate, The Monitor reports.

Witnesses said Jose Sanchez, 55, was shot in the leg by a passing vehicle at roughly 11 a.m. while holding a campaign sign for constable candidate Hector “JoJo” Mendez in front of a polling station at the San Juan Fire Station No. 2 on Texas’ primary day.

Police are searching for the shooter, reportedly driving a red Chevy pick-up truck, who fled the scene. Sanchez was rushed to a nearby hospital where police said he is in stable condition after a bullet fragment had been removed from his leg.

San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez didn’t reveal what type of weapon the bullet that struck Sanchez was shot from, however, he did tell The Monitor of McAllen, Texas that “it might be from a high powered airsoft weapon, like a pellet gun.”

Motive has not been determined and it is unclear whether the shooting and the local elections are related. San Juan is located less than 20 minutes from the U.S.-Mexico border.

“We don’t know what exactly the motive was,” Gonzalez said. “It’s going to be a long day, this election day.”

The Monitor captured some additional eyewitness testimony:

“He said ‘Oye—they shot me,’” said Leticia Rodriguez, who was campaigning for Mendez’s opponent Martin “Marty” Cantu and helping Sanchez put up a tent shortly before the incident.

“Why him? Why?” she said. “I’ve been here for two weeks and this is the first time he’s come.”

Witness Ramiro Treviño said he didn’t hear the shot, but saw Sanchez stumble from the side of the street where he had been waving a Mendez sign.

“He fell down and then they sat him down,” Treviño said. “I don’t know if it was a pellet gun or a .22, but it was a small caliber thing. There was some bleeding. I pulled up his pant leg and pulled down his sock.”

Mendez, the candidate who’s sign Sanchez was holding, told The Monitor he was going to the hospital and his campaign would try to assist with any medical needs. He also encouraged voters not to let the incident scare them out of casting their ballots.

“The people who want to come out and vote—they could feel threatened,” Mendez said. He also urged everyone to “not to be afraid to go out and vote.”

Mendez’s opponent in the constable race is Martin “Marty” Cantu. He had not released a statement regarding the shooting as of 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

The polling location stayed open following the incident and remained open for the remainder of the day, according to The Associated Press.

If you look at this situation this is not an intended “hit”. If the drug cartels were attempting to make a point they would use a high-power rifle and not an air rifle. If rouge law enforcement were to shoot, well they would have hit the target.

A drive by with an air rifle?

My family is from south TX and still live in a small town run by La Raza (so there are at least 6 white people left). They don’t even have a Rep. Primary to vote in, so I would say it’s more like Mexico than America there.

Just occurred to me that the big ‘early voting’ push the progs use (you know the ones with donald, mickey, scooby and cemeteries full of dead people) will be the only ones counted when they try to scare people away from the polls on election day. Won’t work. idjits..

You just don’t get it. What if you are in line to vote and a truck load of people did a drive by and opened fire. That is the same thing. It doesn’t say if this victim is illegal. Doesn’t say if the shooter is illegal. Like the Black Panthers standing at the polling standing in military garb with bats daring anti Obama voters to vote. Then of course we have a government that refused to prosecute their Brothers in arms. That is where the real crime lives.

A high powered airsoft weapon, like a pellet gun?? What did I miss? When did airsoft toys become high powered weapon?? Great googaliemoogalie little Bobby! You’d better get your airsoft registered with the Feds before they impound your toy and throw you in the state pen.

Good thing, because according to the preceeding paragraph the writer thought that a passing vehicle shot the guy in the leg.

Do not know the political parties of those involved, but could this be ‘the first shot’ in the drive for BHOs re-election? It’s not that much of a stretch from the New Black Panthers and Louis Farakahn (?) to real violence used as intimidation, is it?

Matthew cap 26 verses 52-56. Today it is no different than in the days of Christ violent men with murder in their heart will perform the works of their father satan . It is becoming hard to focus on the right thing. Violence is not the answere remember God is in control .

My polling place is about 6 blocks and I go every time it’s time to vote. Funny, it being the primaries and you have to declare a party, they had the Democrat primary on the LEFT and the Republican primary on the RIGHT. And all I needed was my voter registration card, which they punched with an R and the date. I have to wonder, does that mean I couldn’t switch parties and vote Democrat in November? If so, this is a great idea. It gets rid of the people who vote for the opposing party just to weed down the nominees.

The new black pansies will try their intimidation again and when you encounter these neanderthals wielding their batons take their baton and whatever you do DO NOT strike their heads it will only result in a broken baton. You’ll be left with a broken baton and a neanderthal with a mild headache,no just give a hard liver kick to the neanderthal and he’ll go down faster than Monica Lewinsky. This can only be done if the neanderthal attacks you then you can defend yourself.

LOL. Paul saw the writing on the wall and the will of the voters. He dropped out (sorta’-delegates) knowing full well he was going to get his ass kicked in his son’s state, then the embarrassment of getting lambasted in Texas would have been too much for the crotchety old fart to bear.

Whats with this ideology for people to drop out of races? Maybe we should stop the superbowl at half time and call the winner. Nothing personal guys but Perry and Bachman are truly one percenters! They dropped out before 1% of the delegate votes were cast. Thats insane! I guess its ok to start a 100 yard dash and take one step and say I quit these days…I bet you guys go to work and work 15 minutes then say OK im done for the rest of the day too…. IDIOTS!

So tell me… why did Paul (sort of) drop out? He didn’t have to right? I think he was making an excuse (lack of money) and for the reasons I stated above I believe a more likely scenerio. It’s all about the appearances with his he and his campaign, not what is actually going on in the world of fact.
