‘P.R. Stunt’: Stewart Blasts Obama for His Accented Pronunciation of ‘Puerto Rico’

It’s not often that Glenn Beck and Jon Stewart agree. But yesterday, they did. And it was over Barack Obama, no less.
Near the end of yesterday’s radio show, Beck and his co-hosts panned Obama’s speech in Puerto Rico during a quick state visit. While there, Obama chose to tun on a Spanish accent whenever he said the name Puerto Rico. Beck and his team labeled it pandering to the crowd.
And you know what? Jon Stewart thinks so, too.
During a segment on his “Daily Show,” Stewart also blasted the president’s speech and his use of the accent. An on-screen graphic even labeled it a “P.R. stunt.” But Stewart went further and noticed something else: while the president started out with the accent, by the end of the speech, he had dropped it.
“Puerto to Porto in just under eight minutes,” he said.
You can watch Stewart’s comments below, and also see him mock other aspects of the four-hour long trip and what seems like the obvious political motivation behind it:

I was told by the staff that he was in the building for about a half hour for a $40k a plate luncheon. Oh, and he left early. It was supposed to be from 2-4 and he left at 3:15, didnt show up until 2:45 There were hundreds of people in the lobby area to meet him, however he went through the back door and never so much as gave the crowd, standing in 100 degree temps, a glimpse of the chosen one. Interesting tid bit though, on the south side of the island, more rural, independant conservative folks in Ponce and Mayaguez, “Go Home Obama, Independance Now” placards were placed everywhere. Not so in San Juan though, the socialists part of PR where the mesiah graced his merciful prescence. They were all taken down and protestors were kindly asked to leave or be arrested. PR wanted to make a nice impression for the “Historical Visit” of Barrack Hussein Obama, mmmm mmmm mmmm.

OH, and unless we are going to start pronouncing “Japan” as ‘KNEE-HONE” (Nippon) then let’s quit pandering to SELECTED people by trying to prounounce their country the same way they do. We speak ENGLISH – in English, things are pronouced differently than they are in other languages – and we lack many of their diacritical marks in our alphabet as well. It ALWAYS sounds arrogant, aloof and condescending.
