The drug crackdown has begun, even though the targeted narcotic is still legal in Pennsylvania.
A drug nicknamed “bath salts” burst onto the headlines recently after reports of violent highs surfaced across the state.
“It’s not your run of the mill bath salt,” said Pa. Rep. Jerry Knowles, (R) Schuylkill/Berks counties.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 6:15pmThis is the first time I‘ve heard of this new drug or ’product.‘ I’ve read the posts, snippets and snipes. I’m not in favor of more restrictive laws or prohibitve actions; however, shouldn’t we as a civilized society want to promote safety and the general weal. Different past societies or civilizations have placed limits on its groups behavior for the sake of that group. Some of those would be questionable in today’s societies, but others should not have been so easily discarded.
In this case the substance described is one from which our children, at least, should be protected. It should be because our childdren’s brains have not developed fully and they cannot make the choice for themselves. As for the adults–some of their brains have not fully developedf either–it is their choice, but so, too, is drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes or having unproteced sex.
I would like to draw attention to the results of one’s choice to smoke, ingest or absorb foreign chemicals into one’s body. When the experiment or test or I’ll-just-try-it-once lark goes awry, who pays. The hospital or my insurance rates? The police department or the guy down the streeet whose car was crashed into? The EMTs who responded to a mother’s frantic call about her son or daughter or the parent who has to mourn the loss of his or her child? (Okay, bad, enabling parenting aside, please) It is all about the children, isn’t it? I don’t want to pay for the adults behavior. Lock them away and protect me from them. They made a choice, however stupid or ill-conceived; it was a choice. Ah, let’s see: do I want to get high or get high and break a law doing it. For some the choice is: get high or get high. Society has the right to reject them and their choice. The brain is controlled by nature’s use of chemicals. It is easily altered by manmade chemiclas. Using man made chems to alter a brain that wasn’t functioning all that well to begin further exacerbates the problem, leading to more irrational behavior. Make attempts to help the child, teach them, of course–we want them as productive members; but when they reject joining the socitey in a constructive manner, then the society has the choice to remove them. Throw the switch.

It seems the “war on drugs” propaganda has been very effective. Take an action akin to ******* in the wind (i.e., assuming you will ever end or even control substance abuse), throw hundreds of billions of dollars at it, swell your jails and prisons (hmm… which lobby pushes for harsher drug laws and sentencing? Why, that would be those who build private prisons! Go figure!) and assume you’re doing something that matters. The left wants to take Happy Meals. The right has found its comparable bugaboo. Devote your private time and money as you see fit. I don’t like seeing my representatives play social engineer in trying to save stupid people from themselves. This is at best a red herring considering our overall state of well being. I don‘t understand how you can say you don’t want govt. telling you what you can’t eat or drink… but some moron sniffing bath salts suddenly fires up your willingness to have govt. act in loco parentis. Seems to be a muddled message to me….

How easy if even able to manufacture it at home with off the shelf chemicals. Is the key ingredient only found in limited quantity from a plant unique to an location or a by-product another chemical reaction that is made by the ton and readily affordable to anyone without limit. Will there be any “salt labs” or is having a meth labs easier and more profitable. Will someone be caught with 100 lbs of MDPV (real name). It’s ugly,” added Ryan, who recounted some harrowing stories.
The products have also been linked to suicides, not to mention hospitalizations, and on Tuesday investigators confirmed the presence of bath salt drugs in the blood of a man who KILLED A SHERIFFS DEPUTY in Tippah County, Miss., ABC News reported.
Louisiana has already banned the products, via a decree from the governor’s office that recently made them a Schedule 1 substance, putting them in the same class as heroin. Now law enforcement officials in that state — and Florida, which enacted a similar decree — CAN DO MORE THAN JUST CHARGE PEOPLE WITH A MISDEMEANOR FOR USING OR SELLING the fake bath salts.

I’v come to the conclusion that we are not gonna stop people from using drugs. Lets legalize these drugs fo sale ,(this will stop the drug wars) then create special areas/buildings where these people can go and shoot up, smoke up, inhale up to their hearts content. If they are caught using outside of these designated areas, they go straight to jail.
Post guards at the entrances that will detect if they have their senses about them when they leave. If not, they stay there until their head clears. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper than the billions spent on the waa on drugs.
We will help these people and society at large. They will kill themselves much quicker (the country is over populated w/ idiots)and this will eventually save the taxpayers $$. Plus the billions trying to fight the waa on drugs wich can’t be won.

Report Post »I’m with you ’til you start your rant about which party or ideology is more repressive. I believe it’s the left that has championed free speech zones, it’s the left that wants content control on the Internet (my state sentator, Jay Rockefeller, sure hates the Internet and satellite/cable TV), it’s the left that wants to attack soft targets like video games (e.g., Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman) or music. Are you old enought to remember the PMRC circus with Tipper Gore as its ring leader? The left says it champions free speech (when it’s our tax dollars funding provocateurs that are laughably called “artistes” for literally crapping on a picture or urinating in a jar) but just doesn’t like the private citizen deciding what he wants to play, see, hear or access. There are the religious busy bodies on the right (like the idiots who were playing recordings backwards and hearing the voice of Satan in rock music that caused murder and mayhem), but the organized, politicized push to limit freedom of speech is clearly from the left.
The left tells people in CA they can’t burn brush on private property… so when a fire comes along the destrution of homes can apparently be assured. This can‘t be owned by any but environmentalists who know what’s best (sic) for you and your property.
The left wants to tell people what they can and can’t eat. Find one conservative who supports the “don’t eat Happy Meals” nonsense.
The left wants to tell you what kind of light bulb to use.
The left believes I shouldn’t be armed. Throw a Nerf ball at any random gathering of Hollywood progressives; which ever one you hit in the head is likely going to utter “Guns are bad!” when that is the issue up for debate. Activists on the left want to tell me what I can buy (e.g., action and caliber), how many I can buy, how much ammo I can own, and what kind of ammo I can use (govt. approved, of course).
My list goes on. I’d be curious to see you counter it.
The busy bodies regarding substance abuse seem to be about evenly matched. On the left, charlatans embrace the disease model and claim they can cure you… if they just had a little more time and money. Keeping people in the criminal justice system means job security. On the right, the inability to let Lil’ Stinky fail keeps folks from letting self-destructive morons be true to their nature. If you just ban it all, that ends the problem, right?
There are busy bodies on both ends of the spectrum, but your statement that the left wants you to be free is laughable. I’ve got a liberal buddy who grudgingly admittted the left is no friend to free speech. He recounted his epiphany to me… he kept trying to rationalize all the actions he saw the left taking against free speech into some argument as to how this was for the greater good and couldn’t bring himself to swallow it.
Look at conmtemporary and historical leftist regimes. You can seriously still hold to your statement? In this country it is clear which side’s busy bodies are stepping on my ability to read, view, play, eat, manage, drink, smoke and generally live. Believe as you will. The busy bodies on the right tend to be annoying but relatively harmless in this country; the busy bodies on the left appear to be annoying and dangerous in this country and beyond.

So who is more dangerous, the enemy that is attacking it head on? or the enemy the comes in from the side, whispering sweat nothings in freedoms ear then stabs freedom in the back?

I am trying to get people to understand that “government banns” are not the solution to any real or perceived product or social problem. A persons personal feelings on a substance, item, or activity does not give that person the right bann others from using it. Just because the items I choose have “popular” support or “popular” uses does not make them any less dangerous.
I dont smoke, I dont drink alcohol, but I do consume large amounts of Flavored and Caffeinated sugar water otherwise known as Mountain Dew, that is my “vice” if you will, Some people would love to tax or bann my drink of choice because it is “bad for you” and it will probably kill me since my family has a long history with Type II diabetes, I know the risks and I choose to do it anyway.
If a Person wants to consume these bath salts, then it is THEIR body not yours, you have no RIGHT to tell any person what to drink, eat, smoke, snort, or do with their body.
I dont want to hear about “well it costs the government money” or “they steal things” which are common excuses to allow people to sleep at night while violating other peoples natural rights. Instead you should support swift and harsh punishment for actual crimes like Theft, Murder, etc, and support reforms to would allow irresponsible drug users to either A> Get help from people that want to help those people or die in the streets (which I have no problem with, you choose to get addicted to hard drug and die in the street it is not my problem or burden).
What you dont do is pass prohibitions on activities and products you personally do not see a value in or dont personally enjoy, because at some point there will be someone that will want to bann something you do enjoy but they do not see a value in or enjoyment in.
As to the “Bath Salts” These are a direct and logical result of the “War on Drugs” Want to see these dangerous products disappear, the solutions is to end the war on drugs, not just add these to the war, because there will be a chemical replacement for them, I assure you of that.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 7:57amMy drugs of choice ……….
1. Check the Blaze Not sure I can find a 12 step program for this to give it up.
2. Check the Eagles of Decorah. Don’t want to give this one up.
3. World of Warcraft game. I am level 85 now, no way I will give it up.
All the rest of the drugs out there are not my cup of TEA.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 8:23amI have to agree with Ironmaan on this one, if it’s not this it will be some other junk these clowns will take to escape reality. How about we try to enforce a little personal responsibility for a change, you want to shove bath salts up your nose and die, have at it cause evidently your too stupid to have around in the first place. I suppose the next thing we‘ll find out is someone is using a happy meal toy for something other than it’s intended purpose and the government will make those illegal too…….never mind.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 10:45am@vivrobbins I’m curious about how one gets high on myth, I‘ve got a copy of the Iliad and I’m wondering if I should smoke it, eat it, or sniff it. Or maybe there are other types of myth that will give me a better high. Should I use some stories about Odin? Or the Bible? Or the Qu’ran?

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 11:35amPlease, these are not really bath salts people! This just proves how easily brainwashed you all are, and how easy it is to fool you. Just because the package says bath salts does not mean that it’s that. It’s meth, a legal meth.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 12:06pmMaybe this idiot should watch Gasland… I think that PA had better look at it’s own natural gas “fracking” leases as a source of death and disease, before it tackles the tough problem of bath salts. If you want to see well water catch fire from the faucet, watch Gasland now, before your state kills itself…

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 12:57pmWell, if this is legal, we can see what the result is. People want to legalize pot and other street drugs. What’s going to happen? Ain’t gonna be pretty. The government wants to downsize the population anyway.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 1:10pmThe Blaze is about a year behind on this, ten billion to the war on drugs last year and this all that came out of it? when it comes to weed decriminalize and educate why does the handgun violator get out of prison after serving 3 of 5 years to make room for another person for possession of pot? WTF the real problem is the chemicals like this stuff no one is educated about and not till it is too late, but let the feds and police get there rocks off on arresting people and putting the pot heads in jail when the real problem is this kind of stuff the junkies roll over on a pot head get a reduced sentence for being a rat and when they are on the street again they find their safe coke or chemical dealer still in business because he gave up a pot head and not the real dope dealer.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 1:13pmLousy reporting here…. how is drug administered? What does it look like out of the package? Are there other names for it? What are the symptoms? As a teacher, I like to keep abreast of these things… like salvia, etc. Any parent should check this out because if it’s legal, the kids won‘t think it’s bad to try. Wake up!

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 1:55pmQuit with the knee-jerk, “let’s ban it” mentality already. The government can’t keep illegal drugs out of prison, so let’s turn the whole damn country into a prison and see if that works. Great idea. And stop with the whole “for the children” garbage too. You sound like a bunch of liberals. Drugs are going to be here whether they’re legal or not. Teach your kid how not to be an idiot. If he/she is stupid enough to do this stuff and dies, well maybe Darwin had a point.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 3:26pmif you go to most gas stations that sell pot pipes, they also sell these meth powder. almost identical to meth in every way, but these guys sell it to kids legally, sometimes labled as plant food also. kids in as young as 10 can buy it and use this legal product. the pakisani guys who run the ct convenience stores keep it next to the candy .

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 4:49pmTo VivRobbins: Honey, I think you may be referring to “meth” not “myth”. People on “myth” are called “democrats”, although the symptoms and reactions are the same that you described.
