GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk apologized for making an obscene hand gesture during Sunday’s victory over the St. Louis Rams.
Hawk made the gesture toward the Packers sideline after sacking Rams quarterback Sam Bradford in the second quarter. Hawk called it a “running joke” with some of his teammates and said it “wasn’t meant to get out there, for people to see.” The gesture apparently made it on television, and screen shots were almost immediately circulated on social media websites such as Twitter.
“It was a joke, and I kind of got caught up in the emotion of the game,” Hawk said. “I definitely apologize if any kids or anyone else saw it. I have a daughter myself, so I wouldn’t want her doing that. I got excited and I got caught up in the game. It was just, I guess, a bad joke. I definitely won’t do it again.”
Hawk said he hoped to avoid a fine from the NFL, and promised not to do it again.
“I think this day and age you’re not going to get away with it,” Packers cornerback Charles Woodson said. “So, if he did it, he understands that there’s probably a thousand cameras in the stadium. Even if it’s a cell phone, somebody got it. So, you’ve got to be careful about that.”

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 6:40pmI wonder if he has taken too many hits to the head, or is just plain stooopid. At first I thot it was a girl but then saw it was just a real ugly guy with long hair. Either way, just typical NFL behavior and another reason why I don’t watch it any more.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 5:32pmI want an apology from VP Joe Biden! Anyways Hawk reminds me of my son, so I don’t think he is ugly. At least up in Green Bay they still play in the open air on a real field, and the Packers keep that town alive. It is the greatest atmosphere to go to a Packers game when we all get along and have fun and WIN! Yes he did a no no, bad A.J.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 3:05pmFirst off, I wouldn’t consider these athletes as appropriate role models for my children. Good sportmanship doesn’t exist in the NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL etc. I enjoy watching football because it is one of the few truly manly events things left in the demasculated US. But, these players are about the bottom dollar and what they can get away with to gain an advantage over their opponents. I am more offended by the excessive celebration and self idolization than a rude gesture.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 7:31amHand gesture? For God sakes, IT’S CALLED THE FINGER. It’s not an “F” word. It’s the finger. Just say it. Most of us read the Blaze to avoid lame terminology like “hand gesture.” Considering the obscenity that can be seen on Fox and any major network any given night, for them to get squeamish about the finger is disingenuous to say the least.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 4:37amDon’t come over to watch football at my house on a Sunday… The language, the beer, the pretzels, obscene hand gestures… They all pretty much start flyling when we realize the NFL ref is blind as a bat and gets paid to be at the game, on the field, and his call still stands after a video review…
Man up or watch something else.

I know, theyre cable programs and not considered NATIONAL BROADCAST… but nonetheless, my kids are exposed to worse things on the playground.. and some of them are done by their teachers… this is a Non story.

Posted on October 17, 2011 at 4:12amDoes apologizing wholeheartedly mean apologizing so that he can hope that they won’t fine him or suspend him or something like that? For whatever reason, he did it and if he is man enough, he will accept whatever punishment that they give him with good graces and then get on with it. It is sickening the number of these so called self glorified wannabe “heros” do cr*p like this and then start whining about it being a joke. I wonder that if he had physically attacked and injured someone on the street, would he apologize and didn’t mean it because he only meant it as a joke? Come on A J Hawk, try being a man one time and standing up and taking responsibilties without making up excuses.
