‘Paid Democratic Hitman’: Stephanopoulos’ Bizarre Debate Question on Contraception Suddenly Makes Sense

Paid Democratic Hitman: Stephanopoulos Bizarre Debate Question on Contraception Suddenly Makes Sense

Dick Morris

Conservative commentator Dick Morris believes that the Democrat party is covertly trying to convince voters that Republicans want to “ban contraception.”

Seem a little far-fetched?

Remember when George Stephanopoulos, former senior political adviser to President Bill Clinton, moderated that ABC News Republican debate last month? Immediately following the debate, he was accused of asking “unfair” and biased questions and of running the debate in a manner that was anything but objective.

And while these charges are debatable, most everyone agrees that the moment where Stephanopoulos suddenly shifted the topic from job creation to hypothetical questions involving whether the states have a right to ban contraception was…odd (to say the least).

“Governor Romney, do you believe that states have the right to ban contraception? Or is that trumped by a constitutional right to privacy?” Stephanopoulos asked the slightly bewildered-looking former Massachusetts governor.

“George, this is an unusual topic that you’re raising,” Romney responded, “Do states have a right to ban contraception? I can’t imagine a state banning contraception. I can’t imagine the circumstances where a state would want to do so…Given that there’s no state that wants to do so, and I don’t know of any candidate that wants to do so, you’re asking could it constitutionally be done? We could ask our Constitutionalist here,” Romney said, gesturing toward Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX).

Stephanopoulos persisted.

“Do you believe states have that right or not?” he asked Romney.

“George, I don’t know if the state has a right to ban contraception, no state wants to! The idea of you putting forward things that states might want to do, that no state wants to do, and then asking me whether they can do it or not is kind of a silly thing,” Romney responded, much to the crowd’s delight.

See the ABC GOP debate exchange via News Busters:

At the time, critics called Stephanopoulos’ contraception question a non sequitur. Indeed, judging by the look on Mitt Romney’s face, the question seemed to come out of nowhere.

But that was then. That was before war broke out between the Catholic Church and the Obama administration. That was before the infamous HHS mandate that forces religious organizations to provide employees coverage for contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs.

As a direct result of the struggle between the U.S. Catholic bishops and President Obama, the “right” to contraception has suddenly become a major political issue — one in which a Roman Catholic running for president could easily be accused of favoring a ban.

Paid Democratic Hitman: Stephanopoulos Bizarre Debate Question on Contraception Suddenly Makes Sense

Of the two Republican presidential candidates who are Catholic, Dick Morris and talk show host Rush Limbaugh believe that Democrats are specifically targeting former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

This has led some critics to believe that Stephanopoulos’ question wasn’t so much out of left field as it was part of a much larger strategy to make certain Republican candidates appear to support a ban on contraception.

Remember: George Stephanopoulos was a senior political adviser to President Bill Clinton; he is more than familiar with campaign strategy.

But why would Democrats take this line of attack?

“The Democrats realize that abortion is no longer a winner for them,” Dick Morris said while on Fox News’ Sean Hannity Show, “It used to be 10 points more pro-choice than pro-life, now it’s 10 points more pro-life than pro-choice.”

Consequently, because Democrats can no longer depend on abortion for their self-defined “moral” high ground, Morris believes that they have to rely on contraception. It’s no longer about the “right to choose,“ but rather the ”right” to contraception.

“The point is [abortion is] a loser issue,” Morris said, “so what they’re trying to do is replace it with contraception.”

Morris makes his case:

So, the first piece of evidence was after Santorum won Iowa. The first controversy was “do you think states should have the right to ban contraception?”

Where did that come from?

Then you remember that ABC debate with that paid Democratic hitman, George Stephanopoulos, went after Romney…trying to pin him down on contraception? And Romney kept saying, “George, no one wants to make contraception illegal.” You remember? It was five minutes. People were laughing at [Stephanopoulos], booing him.

Fox Host Sean Hannity sought to clarify Morris’ comments.

“Do you think [Stephanopoulos] was doing this under direct orders?” Hannity asked.

“Under orders,” Morris confirmed. “It’s no coincidence that [President Obama] came out with the [HHS mandate] after Minnesota and Colorado, which were Santorum’s victories. They want to create the impression that Republicans will ban contraception. Which is totally insane!”

With that in mind, and understanding the power Democrats would wield should they succeed in convincing voters that certain Republicans want to “ban contraception,” that seemingly bizarre exchange between former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and ABC’s George Stephanopoulos suddenly makes much, much more sense.

Watch Morris explain his theory via News Busters:

THEY ARE TRYING TO REPLACE the ABORTION issue (which doesn’t fly anymore) with the CONTRACEPTIVE issue.

THIS quote is from RICK SANTORUM:
“This is something that is affordable, available. You don’t need insurance for these types of relatively small expenditures,” Santorum said.

“This is simply someone trying to impose their values on somebody else, with the arm of the government doing so. That should offend everybody, people of faith and no faith that the government could get on a roll that is that aggressive.”

wow. It is almost like he had advanced knowledge that this was about to become an issue.

Of course, that would be a CONSPIRACY and we all know they would NEVER conspire!!!

To even THINK they would conspire would make us wacko conspiracy theorists, right?

      Sometimes people DO conspire.
We all know politicians will do ANYTHING to get elected.
They will plan and coordinate and organize and they will execute those plans in conjuction with others.
(please note, that coordination is, by definition, CONSPIRACY)

Conspiring is not a bad thing… unless you conspire to do a bad thing.
So, when people dismiss all “conspiracy theory” as being “wacko”, just remember –
      CONSPIRACY HAPPENS.

Dems also know that a majority of the voters garner their “knowledge” about issues from 30 second sound bites. Frustrating for people who invest a little time and effort to educate themselves on the issues but as long as there are no qualifiers other than age to be able to vote this will be the strategy.

I’m truly shocked how it seems every talking point leftist gets it, while the vast majority of us on the right don’t. What Stephanopoulos and the President have begun is only the initial seeding. Soon, Alan Colmes will be interjecting how Conservatives are against contraception, then Beckel, Pelosi, Debbie W-S. Soon some raised eyebrows by ‘legitimate’ newscasters in disbelief when someone on the right is now playing into their hands by defending the position that Conservatives are anti contraception, Finally, the point is made to those who are fooled over and over again by these propagandistic tactics and once again we will have been successfully demonized. What really bothers me is that they have such a stranglehold on the media that we don’t even attempt to do the same to them.

Of course, I love conspiracy theories as much as the next guy. But there is a simpler explanation. A couple of weeks before the debate, one of the candidates, Santorum, restated his belief that states should have the right to ban contraceptives. Specifically he was referencing the 1965 Supreme Court decision in Griswold v. Connecticut, where they struck down a Connecticut state law banning contraceptives. Santorum in previous years has objected to that decision. He publicly restated, as a candidate, his controversial belief that states have the right to ban contraception two weeks before the debate.

So the question was asked. Sorry, no conspiracy theory needed. When a candidate stakes out a controversial position on an issue, of course they get asked about those positions in a debate.

there’s no conspiracy. santorum placed the issue into play by stating his position on griswold and his belief that states have the right to outlaw the use of contraceptives in a Jan 2, 2012 interview with jake tapper . tapper asked santorum about his 18% point loss in the 2006 election. george didn’t ask santorum the question during the jan 7 debate, because he/we already knew santorum’s position on the issue. asking mitt on jan 7 was appropriate to provide information on mitt as a candidate to know whether he held the same position on the issue as santorum or a different position. the only people blind sided by the question are the ones who weren’t paying much attention to what santorum as candidate was previously saying in interviews.

so see, if you can, it’s the republicans via santorum who initally brought this all up.

The Republican rebuttal should be, “Democrats want to make eugenics a right. I totally agree. THERE ARE MILLIONS Of people who have no idea who Margaret Sanger was or what she stood for. Black Americans need to know that Planned Parenthood is nothing more than a euthanasia vehicle to reduce or eliminate Blacks, the statistics prove it. THEY should be up in arms against Planned Parenthood, the Memory of Margaret Sanger (who was one of HILLARY’S HEROES – so much for Hillary) . THE WHOLE POINT IS THIS: WE own the Government. WE pay for the Government and NO WAY IN HELL should the GOVERNMENT be able to TELL US what to do without our approval. NO POS President with his executive orders as he tries his best to become Dictator in Chief, funded by Satan, George Soros (seriously) . THIS IS ABOUT FREEDOM, not about contraceptives. You’re right on, SNOWLEOPARD. This is just the latest trend from the Left and MSM to destroy the Constitution. It is NOTHING LESS than a declared war.

The PROBLEM – and it is a BIG problem – is that the Insider and Establishment Wing of the Republican party are obvious co-conspirators. Either that, or they are the very definition of “obtuse.” Indeed, their silence or lack-luster reaction to this onslaught speaks volumes! Marxist Democrats do what they do; they never change and this should not surprise anyone. A blind man can see what is happening. But with the exception of Talk Radio and FoxNews … we hear SILENCE. In the end, either the Republican party are co-conspirators or – at minimum – they are incompetent and should be elected out of office due to Constitutional malfeasance.

I have a question for Stephanopoulos, how far will you go to destroy are great nation? It‘s like he does’nt get it if we fall there wont be any of these social issue’s to debate. What in the hell is so wrong with the traditions that made this the greatest nation in the history of the earth in a short time period. I mean it shocks me to see what the heck passes for a valid question in these so called debate’s. How about what would you do to save our nation comeing fiscal crisis and we want to know the details Gov. Romey?

Humanists, Secularists, Atheists, Progressives, Earth Firsters all want to destroy this country and civilization. Why, because we are based on Judeao Christian values. There is an ancient evil every generation has fought but as Rabbi Lapin said this is the first generation running government in all of our history that is biblically ignorant (in the past you needed to have a biblical proficiency to get into Ivy league schools and it was a must if you were to be considered an educated person) but the arrogant and ignorant of bible precepts have no idea the forces at work and how it ties together OWS, filth and sexual perversion, commerce, worship of the earth even Islam and so much more. If you have not watched GBTV where Glenn has him as a guest on Feb 2 it would be well worth it to do so. I can’t do justice to what he laid out in one paragraph. Watch it for yourself. It will answer a lot of questions about what we are really fighting and you will be surprised at his answer as to the only way to turn this around.
Here is a direct link to that episode of GBTV http://web.gbtv.com/schedule/index.jsp?ymd=20120202

I use to think the same way up until a few years ago then it clicked. They have set this up and plan on crashing are nation in order to establish a dictator communinst system. When it crashes they will act like they are running in to save everyone. Watch out.

I think the ready answer that Romney had was a little odd – Romney seemed like he was prepared for the question? Did anyone else notice it! Romney is the one who will benefit from the smear on Santorum right now, and that will put Romney in the lead. Soros has already said that it doesn’t matter who gets elected – Obama or Santorum – both are about the same!!!!!

If the Case is being made, that the Democrats planned this whole thing…. then it is obvious that they included Romney in their little game.

After all George Soros is either looking for Obama or Romney to continue the decline of this country..

In the last Florida Debate you saw a COACHED Romney prepared for Battle with Gingrich…. Romney never saw the Santorum Hook coming. Romney was only prepared to go out and Fight with Gingrich and therefore Santorum knocked him out with the Healthcare debates. Did you notice the next day all the news, MSM which now includes Beck Blaze & GBTV “BBG” could talk about was Romney Gingrich not the real fight Santorum Romney….

The Republican Establishment is Behind Romney as is Beck… Yes Yes Yes…..

Dick Morris gave Romney this boost but it looked as fake as anything I’ve ever seen. Romney only answers correctly in these situations.

      1. If Gingrich goes first and Romney gets to feed off his answer
      2. Teleprompter
      3. Rehearsed

Soros only says he thinks Santorum is dangerous so the knee-jerk Stupid Party will nominate him. It is called reverse psychology, people. This is also why Soros said that there isn’t a difference between Obama and Romney — so Soros haters will reject Romney (the only candidate running capable of defeating Obama). It’s the old “please don’t throw me in the briar patch” trick and it looks like too many are falling for it — hook, line and sinker!

WTF WAY, contraception if s personal freedom. WE are fighting for personal freedoms. The goverment has no right to stick its nose into our personal choices, be it federal or the states! Besides that is total waste of time and money for any goverment to mess with that issue. I find it interesting how the left is throwing out this crap. Our nation is in big trouble and this president has done everything in his power to make sure that we have to work harder to fix it.

The president says that the insurance HAS TO provide contraception at no charge is wrong. If you don’t want to get pregnant it is your choice to either not have sex or take personal responsability and purchase your choice of contraception.

The point is FREEDOM, the freedom to choose, what you want and I want are two different concepts and we should be free to go after those wants, but I should not have any portion of my money to pay for you want as so for you. WE are responsable for our own choices the goverment has no roll to save me from those choices and when it does it will take from you, that is ********, you should not have your money pay for my choices

The mainstream media is worthless. What you hear on the news has pretty much been bought and paid for to paint this horrific picture of republicans and sing the praises of Obama. News is more propaganda now than actual objective news. Its sad, and the masses buy into it. They dont even care to check more than one source. We will just believe what we are told.

Not quite, they are setting up a winner take all gambit; its not checkmate yet.

      Consider:

Budget shot down by Reid; blame is placed on Republicans as obstructionist.
Debt limit approaches near Nov. no compromise comes from Reid/Obama
Election debates turn suddenly from social matters to economics.
Obama presents himself with the propaganda of the media as the only one, along with Van Jones who can “solve” the very mess they created.
Add in the possible near collapse or total collaspe of the EU by then, and they have a good chance of taking the complete game; failing that, they will be in a position to collapse the USA completely.

Remember that with Obama and his cronies all that matters is either complete control or complete destruction. There is no inbetween.

The question may have been a little off-topic, but it raises a really straightforward issue involving states’ rights, federalism, and the 10th amendment. Romney went to Harvard Law School, for Pete’s sake. He should be able to answer a question about whether states have the right to regulate certain kinds of activity. Santorum (whom I do not support) could have answered the question in a heartbeat.

I was watch the NBC show on Sunday mourning. It’s funny because the round table always talks about republican or middle America as foreign theoretical concepts. They really are void of reality.

But then again a majority of republican advisors suffer the same social retardation
