Pakistan May Be Holding ‘Traitor’ Who Helped Take Down Bin Laden, Congressman Asks to Grant ‘Hero’ U.S. Citizenship

Pakistan May Be Holding Traitor Who Helped Take Down Bin Laden, Congressman Asks to Grant Hero U.S. Citizenship Concerns are growing over the safety of a Pakistani doctor who might have played an unwitting yet heroic role in the U.S. take-down of Osama bin Laden.

According to Fox News, Dr. Shikal Afridi may be in the custody of Pakistan’s clandestine Inter-Services Intelligence agency after it discovered the doctor’s participation in a fake Hepatitis B vaccination program that attempted to gain DNA samples from those within bin Laden’s Abbottabad compound — including several followers and their families.

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta this week questioned the charges against the doctor.

“I’m very concerned about what the Pakistanis did with this individual,” he told CBS News. “This was an individual who, in fact, helped provide intelligence on — that was very helpful with regards to this operation. And he was not in any way treasonous towards Pakistan. He was not in any way doing anything that would have undermined Pakistan.”

Panetta reminded thst the U.S. and Pakistan “have a common cause here against terrorism.”

“And for them to take this kind of action against somebody who was helping to go after terrorism, I just think it’s a real mistake on their part,” said Panetta.

Fox reports that Panetta‘s comments are the first to publicly acknowledge Afridi’s involvement in the operation.

Fox provides some of the background:

Afridi was arrested shortly after the raid and is thought to still be in custody despite not formally being charged with a crime. His detention has widened the rift between the U.S. and Pakistan, with Washington until now quietly pressing for his release so Afridi and his family can resettle in the U.S., according to The Guardian newspaper, which first reported on the doctor’s role in the operation last July.

Reports suggest that Afridi rang the bell of the bin Laden compound during the vaccination drive, and the nurse who was with him was able to get inside but was ultimately unsuccessful in getting any DNA samples.

Reports have also suggested that Afridi may not have even been aware that he was working for the CIA and instead may have been recruited by other Pakistanis to carry out the fake house-to-house vaccination program.

Now, lawmakers are coming to Afridi’s aid. Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher introduced legislation to grant U.S. citizenship to Afridi as Pakistan’s Inquiry Commission on the Abbottabad Operation has recommended the doctor be tried for treason. If convicted, Afridi could be executed.

An official press release from Rohrabacher’s office stated:

“It is shameful and unforgivable that our supposed allies in Pakistan have charged Dr. Afridi, who contributed to the operation that killed Bin Laden, with treason,” said Rohrabacher. “The United States needs to stand with those who help us. We have not forgotten about Dr. Afridi.”

“By granting him American citizenship we will send a direct and powerful message to those in the Pakistani government and military who protected the mastermind of 9/11 for all those years and who are now seeking retribution on those who helped to bring Bin Laden to justice,” Rohrabacher continued.  “We must assume the obvious and conclude that Pakistan’s leaders have plotted for years to kill Americas.”

Panetta also told CBS News that there was no actual evidence of Pakistani involvement in bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan, but suspicions must have been raised.

“I personally have always felt that somebody must have had some sense of what was happening at this compound,” Panetta said of Pakistan’s alleged involvement in harboring bin Laden.

“Don’t forget, this compound had 18-foot walls around it — 12-foot walls in some areas, 18-foot walls elsewhere, a seven-foot wall on the third balcony of the house. It was the largest compound in the area,” he said. “So you would have thought that somebody would have asked the question, ‘What the hell’s going on there?’

That’s not true. Dozens of Iraqis who aided the United States were hung out to dry by the Bush Administration after we had no more use for them. We wouldn’t have been fighting a war against Bin Laden in Afghanistan in the forts place if we hadn’t left our Afghan allies in the lurch as soon as they beat the Russians. That’s just what we do. People in other countries are used as a means to an objective, and whether we help them or don’t help them afterwards is something that’s decided on a cost/benefit analysis basis, not something we have to do because we have a sacred debt of honor.

If I lived in any of these countries I would never aid this bunch in Washington. I would not tell them about a surprise birthday party. They cannot keep their mouth shut.
Panetta seems to be a blather mouth. Telling the press about this doctor, telling the Talabon we are pulling out early and telling Iran Israel is going to attack in the spring and then Finestine telling the world about a top secret meeting with Mossad.
    Come on November.

This is yet another example of Obama’s sympathy toward the those of the Islamic religion. Obviously Obama was trying to protect Bin Laden and his crowd by protecting them against disease. Given his Islamic roots and sympathies, it’s a simple conclusion that was his goal.

I’m not saying I can prove this but he may have been getting DNA samples to create, through genetic exchange and artificial insemination, a new Islamic brood of children of the Bin Laden line before killing him. I don‘t know that’s true for a fact, but it‘s a scientific possibility and plausible given Obama’s love of terrorists.

The liberals claim they were trying to get inside information on his compound, and to determine if Bin Laden was actually there (we already had his DNA). They may have also tried to get the DNA of others who were there, for future reference and to make the connections to other loyal family members. At least that’s what the liberals say.

But clearly President Obama’s heart and soul is with the radical Islamists, and he only keeps killing them, day after day and week after week to conceal his real intentions. The higher the body count of terrorists, the more you can be sure our President is on the side of terrorists.

“…he was not in any way treasonous towards Pakistan. He was not in any way doing anything that would have undermined Pakistan.”
unless Pakistan wants to postulate that Bin Ladin was deliberately being protected by the Pakistani government. If so, then this is a different situation. From both directions and we should cut off funding, close our embassy there, and change the status of Pakistan to a terror supporter state for everything to especially include immigration and visas.

Can we say collateral damage? I do not wish him harm, I truly do not, but neither do I agree we should make him and his family American Citizens if he chose to act on behalf of his country and not ours. I am not being cruel and I am not insensitive, but we are done with Bid Laden and we should move on. There are bigger fish to fry. Like all those spend thrift politicians in Washington, let stop that problem, or maybe legalize pot and then go after the real drugs with the revenue instead of raping the american people over pot smokers lets fund the war on drugs by legalizing what has been proven to be less harmful than what is already legal (alcohol).

I for one, would welcome such a man as my neighbor.
That‘s not to say we shouldn’t look into it more(did he just have a grudge against Osama, or did he just think it was the right thing to do?), but from what little information this story provides, he seems like a prime example of what we would want in a legal immigrant.

      @ callmechristina:

My point being that citizenship was (apparently) not offered up front as protection in exchange for the man who has murdered thousands of people in the name of Islam. It’s being offered as an after-thought now that danger and retribution are imminent. That’s called foresight. Don’t people play chess anymore?

My secondary point is that the same batch of snakes want to grant citizenship to millions of lawbreakers who have shown no such loyalty, and offer no such “return on investment”. By doing that, our government effectively sends the message that every LEGAL immigrant has wasted their precious money and time and energy becoming a citizen.
