Pakistani Ambassador Calls for Beck Action on Koran Burning

Late Wednesday afternoon, the Associated Press posted a story that began this way:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States is calling on conservative radio and television host Glenn Beck to denounce the planned burning of the Quran to show that Americans are tolerant of other faiths.

“I think it would help if Mr. Glenn Beck came out against it, and said that people of faith do not burn the books of people of other faith,” Husain Haqqani told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Ambassador Haqqani may be heartened to know that Glenn Beck did write a widely-circulated blog post on The Blaze on Tuesday evening. You can read the full post here. In the post, Beck made his position clear:

What is wrong with us?  It’s just like the Ground Zero mosque plan.   Does this church have the right?  Yes.  Should they?  No.  And not because of the potential backlash or violence. Simply because it is wrong.

Even though he was on vacation, Glenn proactively contacted me on Monday evening to ask if I would incorporate his thoughts on the story.  He drafted a post, which I quickly published.  That post was also linked in the main story we had on our front page.

Glenn’s post was the No. 1 most-read story on Tuesday, and up to this point on Wednesday.  On Tuesday evening, the blog post was also linked on Glenn’s Facebook page.  As I’m writing this, it has been “liked” nearly 20,000 times.

When contacted by an AP reporter, a Beck representative provided the link to Glenn’s blog post. An updated version of the story was soon posted incorporating information about Beck’s position:

Beck earlier this week wrote in an Internet blog posting that burning the Quran is like burning the flag or the Bible — something people can do in the United States, but shouldn’t.

“Our good Muslim friends and neighbors will be saddened,” he wrote. “It makes the battle that they face inside their own communities even harder.”

It was unclear whether Haqqani was aware of the blog posting. A telephone message left with the Pakistani Embassy was not immediately answered.

Since the pastor of the Florida church still seems intent to carry out the Koran burning on Saturday, I will contact Glenn to see if he has further thoughts on the matter or if he plans to say anything about it at the event where he is speaking in Anchorage on Saturday night.

His original post had a pretty firm conclusion:

The only thing this act would prove is that you CAN burn a Koran.   I didn’t know America was in doubt on that fact.   Let’s prove to each other that while there are many things we can do, there are maybe many more things that we choose not to do.

Interesting that they turn to Glenn. I am going to believe it is out of respect and the perception of his influence after Restoring Honor. I know the progressives will spin it as “it is b/c these are Glenn’s kooks that are burning the Koran”, but I believe it is much more than that. Glenn has shown himself to be a man of God – an honorable man of the utmost integrity. Congrats Glenn, this speaks volumes to your perception around the world.

I agree with Glenn. Yes, they have the right to burn the Koran but it’s wrong anyway. It serves no purpose. HOWEVER, I do smell a rat with this story – maybe Soros?? The Preacher that is sponsoring this book burning is in no way associated with Glenn, the Tea Party movement or anything on the right. So why are they coming to Glenn Beck as though he has any control over this Preacher?

    Don’t trust the wicked left!

Ditto…I agree wholeheartedly with Beck. I have taken some flack for my opinion as if I am sympathizing with terrorists or something. there is nothing to be gained by burning the Quran. I find nothing in the bible that justifies this, and since God’s word is the ultimate authority, that is where I will seek guidance. I think it’s great that the Pakistani ambassador has recognized Glenn Beck. I will be in Gainesville Fl on Saturday for the Gator game, hope there is no trouble.

Burn the Koran. Get it over with.

Patraeus says this will endanger our troops? Like they already aren’t targets and not doing this will somehow lessen the total hatred of Americans.

I am sick and tired of having to accomodate people that don’t even live in our hemisphere and live in a 4th world country. They can’t make it to a 3rd world country. They can’ t get out of the 11th century. These people throw raw sewerage into the streets, bury people up to their neck and stone them to death, cut off hands, ears nose’s. And we are worried what these people think? These people are dictating the way we live. If we live in fear of what these muslims could do to us, then we already have lost our freedoms.

THESE PEOPLE WANT TO KILL US.

This is something that the totalitarian islamic world does not understand- FREEDOM.

If they come here to attack the USA over this, bomb the crap out of Mecca, level Tehran, let Chavez know he’s in the crosshairs and any other islamic country that has a problem with US citizens. Screw these people.

Pakistan is supporting the Taliban who are killing our soldiers. Who does this guy think he is?

You want to burn the bible? Fine. Is just a book. I will hit “reprint” and get another copy. No harm done. I feel the same way about any book, declaration, or other written document.

The Constitution holds supreme over any groups feelings. Sorry if that offends, but sticks and stones people. Get a grip and get over it.

Unless your muslim. Then it is okay to be insenstive to any group but your own. Burn the bible…scream out against everything, and if you draw a cartoon, they will cut off your head on video just to scare the world into how big and bad Islam can be.

After all…this “religion of peace” rarely practices the lie they spread, and most are just too dumb to ask the right questions to expose them.

Sorry Glenn, but in this situation, while I agree with your view, you fail to ask the right questions.

If the “news” media had not promoted his stupid plan…maybe 50 people would have heard about this ONE man’s plan. …. Now the WORLD knows about it.

Why is that, when a small group of people in the U.S.A. do somthing offencive, the whole world says kill all Americans (yes this has been said by a political figure in a islamic country) When people in other countries offend us they dont worry about Americans killing all of them. I agree. Burning or not burning the Koran will make no difference to the mindset or agenda of the extremist Muslims. They have been declaring ‘death to the infidels’ for centuries and ‘death to the American’s’ is their daily prayer. So they are going to demonstrate and burn the American flag if the Koran burning goes ahead? Nothing new there. They have been burning the American Flag and bibles for years. No doubt, the “moderate” Muslim’s will join in.

Unlike you, Glenn and the majority of people visiting/posting on this news site, believe in the Constitution. Which gives the Pastor the right to burn the Koran. Glenn said: “What is wrong with us? It’s just like the Ground Zero mosque plan. Does this church have the right? Yes. Should they? No.”
That’s not good enough for you, eh?

“……HE GAVE SOME AMBIGUOUS BS…THEY HAVE THE RIGHT, BUT……
HE NEVER MENTIONED THE TROOPS…MITT ROMNEY GAVE THE PROPER PLEA AND I RESPECT MITT FOR THAT.”
Kind of like how President Obama hasn’t said ANYTHING about this. Mitt Romney flipflops more than John Kerry, he‘ll be fore the Koran burning as soon as he thinks it’ll get him elected, or help him sell more books.

“Burning the Koran is like burning the flag or the Bible. You can do it, but whose heart will you change by doing it? You will only harden the hearts of those who could be moved. None of those who are thinking about killing us will be affected, but our good Muslim friends and neighbors will be saddened. It makes the battle that they face inside their own communities even harder.”

I agree with a couple of views here.
      1. Burning anyone’s sacred/religious texts, flags, etc. is insulting. It is wrong. How can we expect to others to respect us and our ideals if we sink to the same asinine behavior they do? Like Glenn says, it’s wrong. Whether you like him or not, it’s still wrong.

      2. As only one other person mentioned, why should we bend at all to accommodate people who don’t live in our country? If as some profess, Islam is a peaceful religion, where are the muslim anti-terrorists? Where are the muslims who are against sharia law? Where are the muslims who will stand up and say that supporting the Taliban and Al Qaeda is wrong? That burning American Flags, shooting American soldiers, kidnapping and killing American civilians is wrong? Show me one.

Yes, burning the Koran, the Bible, a Wiccan’s athame, an LDS Book of Mormon, whatever the religion may be–is wrong. Period. Full Stop. End of story.

No matter who does it, American, Pakistani, or otherwise, doesn’t matter. It’s wrong.

While I agree that we shouldn’t do it, no one else should either. I think they call that “The Golden Rule.”

I’m glad Glenn proactively responded to this, but it isn’t really his job. It says alot that the Pakistani Ambassador realizes the influence Glenn has, however it would have made more sense to ask the liberals to condone it, they are the ones who like to burn things, destroy property and provoke violence. Glenns audience and the Tea Party Patriots have already proven themselves time and time again to be peaceful and non provoking.

P.S. I agree, DON’T FEED THE TROLLS. Danglingbags (ew, I can’t even stand to type that disgusting name) is an agitator and a distractor playing right out of the progressive playbook. Don’t let them get the best of you. America is seeing the truth, we are smarter the the progressives give us credit for.

Dangling: Your proposition is that Glenn will do nothing to hurt his money flow? Like most “progresswives” there is envy behind remarks because a person is successful. I’m sure you were at the 8/28 event and saw how Glenn raked in the cash but NOT for himself but for the children of fallen Special Forces people. About $3 million after paying the expenses of the event.

Sorry that you‘re so cynical but doesn’t surprise me because most progressives can’t beleive that people will do anything good in a willingness way.

Directed to Dangling Bags. Apparently you did not read Becks post, nor did you read this article, other than its’ title. Also, you clearly do not have an education in the English language. All you do is post in all caps like an idiot and misspell words. A shame that you lack these abilities. Also a shame that you lack common sense and the ability to think logically. You must understand that this Country is a free country and people have rights to do hateful things. However, we have a civil duty to condemn such things. We cannot force people to act in the right way, we can only persuade them to change their ways. I truly wish you the best in your education of English. Perhaps you should google OWL and check out that website associated with perdue university. Or perhaps check out Diana Hacker. They both provide excellent tips for writing mechanics. I also strongly urge you to use a spell checker. On another note, I accept your right to think freely, but why must your hate those with different opinions? Why must you mock people? Is that not wrong? Don’t you think that you do as much damage as those people who burn the Koran? Well, you do.

“WHY DO YOU HATE THE TROOPS?”
I don’t, two of my nephews are serving in Iraq right now. My brothers went to Vietnam, and my father served in Korea. I don’t hate the troops, but they are in the middle east to protect the freedoms that Americans have. That includes burning the Koran. It’s a dumb idea, it’s a dangerous idea, but it’s protected. JONES HAS THE RIGHT TO BURN THE KORAN!! Get over it.

“PARTY BEFORE COUNTRY FOR YOU, EH?”
It’s Constitution before country, because the Constitution ensures that the country will remain free and honest. When you abandon the Constitution because it’s not convenient you have backward slides. Just like the slides that lead Woodrow Wilson and FDR to imprisoning American citizens because of their race, and ethnicity during two different wars. The government will not hesitate to take your rights away, this is why we need to hold to the constitution harder than we ever have before, and that means LETTING this man burn the Koran because it is his right to do so!

“WHY DOES YOUR GOLD HUCKSTER HERO TRY TO COMPARE THE ISLAMIC CENTER I NY TO THE KORAN BURNING?”
Two dumb ideas, that are incredibly insensitive..

“…..IT IS A TOTALLY BOGUS COMPARISON”
Uh, no. If you remove the blinders of hatred, you’ll see just how comparable they are.

WHY WONT HE JUST ADMIT THAT HE HELPED FAN THE FLAMES OF MUSLIM HATRED TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT ONE OF HIS FOLLOWERS NOW RISKS GETTING TROOP KILLED?”
How, how did he flame it?! How?! He has done nothing but point out the facts behind the Mosque, the Imam said he’ll take money from Hamas, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and other Anti-Semite groups in order to build the damn thing! You’d be blowing a gasket if a Christian church took money from the KKK and Neo-Nazis!

“IN A NUT SHELL ,THIS EXPLAINS HOW MUCH YOU RIGHT WINGERS HATE AMERICA.”
No, your blathering just proves how much we love America when the mods of this website could ban your IP address and report you as a domestic terrorist to HLS.. We LET you say destructive and hurtful things, we LET you disagree with us, we LET you come back time and time again and accuse Glenn of awful things, and accuse the good men and women of awful things. Because you have the RIGHT to. Thanks to the Constitution that you seem to loath so very very much.

“JUST FOR THE RECORD…..YOU HATE AMERICA…..”
Just for the record, I don’t hate anything any more. Thanks to the Restoring Honor rally I find it hard to hate anything or anyone. Even you. I love this country, that‘s why I don’t go shooting my mouth off about things I don’t research or understand, unlike you. I love America and all of it’s greatness, even the wonderment that gives you the right to insult me, drag my family’s legacy through the mud, and ridicule Glenn Beck. That’s how much I love America, I wouldn’t want you right to speak freely taken away, nor would I want Pastor Jones’ right to burn the Koran taken away.

Glenn also has every right to make a profit on his growing business interest. He has not taken from you and does not hurt others. On the other hand I imagine Glenn has added many jobs in the last few years while most or shedding employees.
