Asia Bibi’s tale has been a long and tragic one. The Pakistani woman has been detained for nearly three years after being charged with blasphemy for allegedly disparaging the name of the Prophet Mohammed. The penalty for talking negatively about Islam’s leader? Death.

The Blaze originally shared Bibi’s story in November 2010. Since, there have been a number of updates, but none of them have led to the Christian mother of five’s release. Her high-profile case has even led Pope Benedict XVI to appeal for mercy. She is the first woman to be given the death penalty under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws.

Bibi, 42, was originally scheduled to be put to death by hanging on Nov. 8 2010, but the intense debate surrounding her detention has helped keep her alive. Rather than admitting fault, Bibi claims that it was her co-workers — whom she has forgiven — who wrongly made claims against her.

Years after the women turned her over to authorities, Bibi still sits in a jail cell waiting for hope to arrive. On Tuesday, she received support from activists who came together to present a petition to the United Nations Human Rights Council. The document, which was signed by 50 activists and survivors from world tragedies, called for her release.

In a new book called ”Get Me Out of Here,” Bibi will be sharing her plight with readers. The text, which was written during her ongoing detainment, details her story and talks of the faith she encouraged her children to continue having in Jesus Christ despite her dire situation.

“Bibi is still awaiting a ruling on the appeal of her death sentence and has been moved to an isolated cell without any windows, sink or toilet because of Muslim threats against her life,” reads a press release announcing the book.

Watch Anne-Isabelle Tollet, a journalist for France 24 (who also helped Bibi write her book) speak about the woman’s ongoing struggles. Tollet explains how Muslims discriminated against Bibi, accused the Christian of “defiling” their water after she took a drink from a local supply, tried to get her to convert to Islam and then inevitably turned her in:

“With Pakistan now running for a seat on the U.N. Human Rights Council, the government should make an important gesture by releasing Asia Bibi, and repealing its blasphemy law, which is inconsistent with basic human rights,” echoed Hillel Neuer, the head of U.N. Watch, a human rights group based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Bibi’s ongoing battle has caused many to question whether Pakistan should re-think its blasphemy laws, which rights groups say unfairly target minorities. While the Pakistani government ministry has found the charges against Bibi to stem more from religious and personal reasoning and has recommended her release, the government has yet to act. Her tragic case continues to unfold, but support does seem to be mounting.

    Where is the UN Human Rights Council on this shameful atrosity by Pakistan on this Christian Women? They talk so much about human right but they really don’t mean “human”. They have their noses in examining our voter laws. Isn‘t a human being’s life more important than whether people can‘t vote because they don’t have an ID? Which presidential candidate will get us out of the UN?

    Why are our troops DYING and our taxpayers $16 TRILLION in debt are we even BOTHERING to help any Muslim country when they are KILLING CHRISTIANS every day?. Google “Muslims killing Christians” or Muslims raping European women” (they don’t consider it rape if it is a infidel!. There are literally thousands of articles. I’ve seen pictures of two 12 year old Christian girls who were raped and had their heads cut off. Someone took a photo of the girls laying on a table with their family crying hysterically and posted it on the internet. Their crime – they were Christians.

    This is just crazy. Those crazy, backwards, barbaric, ignorant, caveman religion of Islam needs to be eradicated from this planet. And what’s worse, these Bolsheviks in this country who are so “pro woman” and pro gay also support those insane Muslims and their treating of women like dogs. They also support the intolerance of Islam to its fullest. I don‘t know what’s worse, Islam or the Bolsheviks (traitors) who support it in working to destroy the West.

      True enough that very many Muslims apply their faith in a cruel and barbaric fashion. Are “moderate” Muslims the answer? No. Reformers are needed. Problem is that Saudi Arabia subsidizes the most backward (“Wahhabi”) version of Islam. What can we do about it? Probably the most effective thing would be to develop oil shale in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. Oil price drops, Saudis can’t subsidize anymore, reformers can get to work.

      @ Chuck — they have had several bites at the apple of reformation of islam. The Bahai faith is severely persecuted in its homeland of Iran. Sufis are often targets of Sunni hate.

      Islam lost its “creative edge” when it ran out of Christian lands to conquer. Since then, it remains the most backward of all faith and gov’t systems.

      Pray for muslims to let themselves be found by the Lord of all and released fm the dungeon of Allah.

      It is a shame that people must die for a false prophet..the good news for this woman is that Yashua died for her..as He died for us all.. We are in earth suits. Fear not he who can kill your body..but He who can kill your body and soul in hell..for our bodies will be resurrected… that second death will be the final death. If this woman is a Christian..she has chosen life and the second death will have no power over her.

    Where is our Hillary now, she has been making remarks about women’s rights including here in the USA? I bet you won’t hear a sound from her in defense of this woman. The reason she could careless with the NYT is that they follow the god of this world and therefore will not defend any born again believer. This is also why the NYT won’t ever condemn ****** atrocities.

    From its birth Pakistan has been a failed state. It was created to be the homeland for all the Muslims in the Sub continent which by the way in total are the most populous group of the Muslim world (Pakistan 170 million Muslims (India 160 million) and (Bangladesh 140 million total: 470 million Muslims out of 1. 4 Billion Muslims in the world. As the numbers indicate most Muslims are not in Pakistan so her reason to be a nation has failed. Now Pakistan is becoming as radical as Saudi Arabia where not only this Christian woman but forced conversion of Sikhs and Hindus are now occurring in Pakistan where the Pakistani Taliban along with the Afghani Taliban are just waiting for the deadline when the US and NATO troops leave before both the US backed Afghani Government and the US backed Pakistani government will feel the vengeance of an undefeated Al-Qaeda/Taliban force with Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal within reach of this entity.

    There is one time that George W. Bush LIED to the American People, and that was NOT about our reason for going to war with Iraq.

    It was at the State of the Union Address after 9/11 when he stood there – along with moo-slum leaders- and told us “Islam is a religion of peace”.

    Time and time again we see islam for what it is. A bloodthirsty cult of death, subservience and dominiation. Allah is Satan, Mohammed is an imp of Satan, and moo-slums can condemn me all they want for saying it. I am prepared to meet the threat and pay it back with compound interest.

      You got that right SpankDaMonkey! A southern gentleman I am but these folks are so mislead by their religious beliefs that the only hope for them is God almighty Him-self. And guess what; the way things are looking He is coming sooner rather than later. Trust me when He gets through with all the non-believers it will be a much better world to live in. We just have to hang on to beliefs and pray for this poor woman.

    I keep praying for Pastor Nardakhani, Bowe Bergdahl and all persecuted Christians but I had forgotton about this woman. I will add her to my prayers.
