Pakistani Christians Reportedly Killed, Churches Attacked in Response to Koran Burning

At least two Christians have been killed and multiple churches have been attacked in Pakistan, reportedly in response to a Koran-burning ceremony in Florida last week, says Asia News.
According to the outlet, two Christians were killed last Friday when Islamic extremists attacked a Pentecostal church in Hyderabad. The group originally showed up to burn the church, but were unsuccessful. Instead, they confiscated copies of the Bible and burned them.
In a similar attack, a mob reportedly attacked the Full Gospel Assembly Church, in the Badami Bagh area of Lahore. There, Asia News says, the attackers “threw copies of the Bible into the street and accused the Christians of blasphemy, claiming they found pieces of the Koran, not far from the church.”
And in yet a third incident, this one on Monday, a group of seven armed men attacked the Catholic Church of St. Thomas in the military district of Wah. Asia News reports:
The attack took place at 6.30 pm yesterday, while the security guard was absent. The extremists hurled stones, damaged the building and tried to set fire to it, but they did not shoot. Yesterday’s was the third attack against a church in Pakistan less than a week. [...]
The extremists were armed, but did not open fire. Unable to break down the door, they tried to set it on fire. The parish priest, Fr Yousaf, rushed to the scene of the attack and tried to reassure the small Christian community. “It’s a reaction – the priest told AsiaNews – to the desecration of the Koran in Florida, although the Catholic community has condemned the act. We pointed out clearly that we have no link with the Americans. At the time of the attack there were no guards, the police are present only on Sundays. ”
Pastor Tariq Emmanuel, who lives near the church, added that the assailants did not open fire “because it is a high security area” and the military would have reacted immediately in the event of gunfire.
As noted, the attacks are in response to last week’s burning of a Koran oversaw by Florida Pastor Terry Jones. NPR explains:
But, yesterday, during Dove World Outreach Center’s Sunday service, without any publicity and under the supervision of Jones, Pastor Wayne Sapp soaked a Quran in kerosene for an hour, held an event he said was a “trial” for the Muslim holy book, and after the book was found guilty, Sapp set the Quran on fire using a barbecue lighter.
According to Asia News, the pastors of the attacked churches in Pakistan have denounced Jones and his actions.
“What fault did those two innocent people have,” one of them said, “who were not Americans, but only Pakistani Christians?”

Posted on March 29, 2011 at 11:06amIslam will always find some reason to be violent because as your “god” is, so will you be. “allah ” started out as the moon god in the pantheon of gods that became Islam, aka the god of War. nothing much is different since the 7th century when the cry was ‘convert or die’! Man has been calling his gods by the name of Jehovah since the times of Genesis. (see Gen4:26b) Allah clearly is NOT the same as the Lord our God. Christians need to wise up. The dude who burned the Koran in order to make a spectacle of it is foolish to the max. He would be better serving the Lord to contrast the difference between Christianity and ‘everything else’ by showing the power and love of God to those who don’t know it or practice it. If all you show islamics is more combat and hate, why should they change, seeing as they have a good head start on the rest of us? Show them what they don’t have: the love of God in the name and person of Jesus Christ.

At what point do Democrats/progressive/liberals(whatever they’re calling themselves today) stop protecting their electorial base at the cost of the country‘s security and comdemn Islam for not stopping the cancer growing in it’s community. Excuse me, but you sound like Obama when he inserts his foreign values into our society. We don’t like that, do we? TO US, burning the Quran is a non-violent act; not so to Muslims. In their culture it is considered a serious attack against their religion, worthy of death. Please understand. Their religion demands they respond with violence.
You might say, “Well this is America and why should we care? We should, because it puts Christians in Muslim countries in harm’s way. And not just them. Americans become targets of revenge as well.
We are AT WAR with people who do NOT share our core values. It is therefore wildly irresponsible to engage in acts that will accomplish nothing good, only stoke the fire of their wrath. If Jones is so incensed that he wants to pick a fight with Muslims, then he should go burn the Quran in a Muslim country or join the army. Bloody coward.

———
Smith, if we don’t understand our enemies, how on earth are we going to defeat them? We are not talking culture, for sure. Islam is a religious-political system at work in many different cultures throughout the world. I (as opposed to you) am talking about a) how that system operates, and b) how whatever you do here is known throughout the world, because news travels around the globe instantly.
Our political system makes a CLEAR distinction between “offensive” and “violent.” Not Islam. In fact, as I said before, an offense against Allah demands violent retaliation. In America we vehemently reject that paradigm, BUT since we are not isolated from the world, we must realize that if we engage in offensive actions against Allah — and burning their holy book is at the top of that list — THEN we and/or those who are associated with us will be attacked and hurt. You and I may hate that fact, but it is our present reality.
Could you look those Christian families in the eye and tell them Jones had nothing to do with what happened to their dead loved ones? I am not going to side with a callous, self-centered b-tard, who sparked deadly retaliation against my brothers and sisters in Pakistan and elsewhere. He is one miserable, ungodly coward, and he will reap what he has sown.

Posted on March 29, 2011 at 11:37amThe burning of the Koran was a very stupid act by a doofus who claims to be a Christian. However, the murder of Christians by mobs of turban topped barbarians far outstrips and outweighs the actions in Florida. If they had raided the churches in Pakistan and took their bibles and burned them, that should have been sufficient. This can be expected from a religion that cannot even respect other views within their own ranks. They bomb each others mosques and Homocide Bomb those of other sects of Moslems. Could you imagine Baptists bombing Catholics?, Penetcostals bombing Lutherans? or Episcopalians bombing Mormons? Yet we have seen “Peaceful” Moslems carry out these atrocities almost daily.
Pastor Jones should concentrate on preaching the LOVE OF CHRIST to the Moslems instead of acting like an idiot. Many Moslems and members of many other faiths have converted to Christianity after realizing that Christ preached love for all humanity, not just the select few. Christ says “Love the sinner but hate the sin”. Christ loves Moslems just as much as anyone else.
It’s too bad that adhereants to or members of the “Religion of Peace”, as our intrepid POTUS called the moslems, display such barbaric tactics. Their actions will only further the flames of hatred, distrust and resistance to the incursion of Islamic thought across the world and in the end, that will be a good thing. Could you imagine living under Sariah Law? Could you imagine you “Honor Killing” your daughter for not marrying the man you selected for her? Could you watch your son being beheaded because he had a copy of the bible? Could you participate in the stoning to death of your niece because she was “Accused” of adultery? This is what the “religion of Peace” represents.

They are animals, all right, and they did the killing. We can agree on that. I have a problem with the “regardless” part of your argument.
Let’s use the closest parallel scene in America. Street gangs kill innocent people, and if you decide to walk into their territory, you may be victimized. Now, if you took a kid and left him stranded there in the middle of the night (the kid represents the defenseless Christians), would you be responsible if he got killed or not? The answer is yes, because you knowingly put him in harm’s way.
This crime was committed BECAUSE of what Jones did. He knew the Taliban are killers. He knew they would take revenge on defenseless Christians if he burned the Quran, so he is responsible for putting those Christians in harm’s way. Any other crime these animals have committed is extrinsic evidence. THIS crime is on Jones’ hands.

He burned the koran because he is not much unlike those he seems to want to discredit… blinded by his faith, and not having the intellect to make a compelling arguement against what he sees, he has resorted to a simple mindless action to draw wide attention to his frustration… Christianity is a good thing, it teaches principles that followed lead to a fullfilled and satisfied life, but blindly believing that yours is the only answer, and damning all others to hell as many zealot christian preachers do is hardly any different than the muslim extremist this preacher is wanting to condemn.
I as much as anybody am horrified by sharia law as practiced in many countries and do not understand how anybody could defend it or the religion that supports it. I know that given my upbringing in the US has not prepared me to understand the mind of a muslim…. any more than common sense has prepared me to understand the minds of those like Jones…

Yeah, I agree with you what Jones did was stupid, and just plain wrong. But looking from the outside in, it will get those damn extremist who were already leaning that way anyway to come out of their holes to be killed. Unfortunately innocent people will lose their lives, and even more unfortunate is that they always will when confronted with extremist views of any religion (Islam being the kingpin of this era). We as Americans live in a very bad time indeed, seem to always have to be watching our back while we are bailing out and watching other peoples backs all the time. We have been to involved in the Middle East to step away, and not getting involved more than likely would not keep us safe from more terror attacks. One thing I do not want to see though, is the spread of Islam and Islamic law in our country. We don’t need it. Practice your religion in this country, no problem… but to do it using Sharia Law, does not coincide with how our nation was established. The “religion of peace” is anything but, and I know the Blaze readers have said this a million times, I just wish the rest of the world could see it for what it truly is. Yes, there may be peaceful Muslims, and yes, there may be extremist Christians. But the way things are going now, I would rather deal with an extremist Christian.

Posted on March 29, 2011 at 11:30amStarman, you took the words right out of my mouth. That was the first thing I thought. Certianly it was not Christlike for that Pastor to soak the Koran in kerosene and light it on fire, but that pales in comparison to the response of Muslims to it.

Posted on March 29, 2011 at 11:42amThis is the country with nukes that candidate Obama polarized by saying he would invade them to get UBL. The Taliban have since taken control ofl the north region, and Zardari has cut deals with them. Who do you think is doing all the religious killing?
Hundreds of civilians will be killed by the Taliban or our drones before the Taliban finally take over Pakistan. But O’bum is OK with the Taliban ruling by democratic election in Afghanistan and Pakistan. His only enemy is al-Qaeda, whom he is arming in Libya.

Posted on March 29, 2011 at 12:59pm@ 82dAirborne,
While I know you are decent and you do mean well….I would tear up over any Christian who is slaughtered for honoring their God-given rights, before I would tear up about people not showing any idolatry to a flag….that flag does not reprersent what WE the people have been led to believe, that it represents.
Everyone needs to take a look around. The American flag does not prove we have freedom. If that were the case, the NWO would not be a threat, and we would not all be here discussing the current situation. The globalists will not honor our flag, either. because it does not represent them.
All Christians will become prime targets for the globalists agenda. No flag will stop that from happening. That would take a divine intervention of the Lord and God, who DOES have supreme authority over all that is wicked in this world. All the satanists know this too, but will never admit it.

Posted on March 29, 2011 at 3:00pmNo kidding! I thought Christians were supposedly peaceful and loving people. Yet this moron in Florida thinking that he exists in a tiny little bubble goes and burns someone’s Holy book. Hey mister preacherman (Terry Jones), how does it feel to have the blood of innocents on your hands?

Of course a human life is much, much more important than a piece of cloth! My point was that I would not dream of taking a human life over disrespect to an object. Be it a book or some cloth. Isn’t the real importance of the Bible or the Koran what it means to believers? What it stands for? I tear up not because of the symbols but what they stand for.
Just because the meaning of the flag is different to you than it is to me doesn’t make either of us “wrong.” I understand we and our country is nowhere close to perfect. We have made horrible mistakes no doubt about that.
I devoted a large portion of my life to uniformed service because I believed in what I was doing. I don’t care if the “Globalists” don’t honor our flag – I do. That’s enough for me. I am not trying to force my thinking on anyone. That is one of the problems I have with Muslim extremists. I am like most people, Americans in particular, I don’t like things to be forced on me.

Posted on March 29, 2011 at 11:34pm82dAirborne, I appreciate your thoughts on this thread. And I’ve seen other thoughtful comments, and some not so much.
I’m with you about patriotic music, as well as religious music at Christmas. I tear up and have to fight that back when I’m in a crowd – which is usual when that music is played – to avoid embarrassing myself.
82dAirborne, you’ve put yourself into the other guys shoes as they say. And you can’t see why, even then, you’d want to kill another human being. I’m with your on that; neither can I. You are a lot more thoughtful than anyone else whose post I’ve read here.
But I’d ask you and others to think about a something. There are several million Muslims in the US and over a billion in the world, almost one quarter of the world’s population. Are there Muslims in the world that commit violence in the name of religion? Sure. Are there Christians who have committed atrocities in the name of Christ? Of course.
Are there Mosques throughout the US that help the poor, provide scholarships, and support the indigent regardless of faith? Of course. Do those in the Mosques preach peace, encourage understanding and cooperation among all of us, and support for America? Of course they do. If there’s a Mosque near you, just walk in and talk to them. You want proof, that’s my proof.
I have Christian beliefs 82dAirborne, and I see the horrors of the world everyday in the news. But I know that when you make assumptions about an entire group (like 1 billion people) based on the actions of a few, that’s irrational, and the very definition of bigotry. I think Christ is with me on that. And I think that demonizing an an entire group of any people based on the actions of a few is not only wrong but is the cause of much horror of the world’s history. Hatred is not the answer.
