Palestinian Authority Threatens to Disband if U.S. Thwarts Palestinian Statehood Efforts in SeptemberDoes this make any sense? The Palestinian Authority is allegedly threatening to disband if the U.S. thwarts the Palestinians’ efforts to gain UN recognition for statehood come September.

During a briefing to over 90 Palestinian envoys in Istanbul, Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat condemned both the U.S. and Israel, asserting the Oslo process was on the brink of collapse. And indeed it could be.

According to reports, Erekat said that in the event the Palestinians are unsuccessful in their endeavor to be granted statehood at the UN General Assemby, the Palestinian Authority should “cease to exist” and that PA President Mahmoud Abbas “should throw the keys in their faces.” While a bit unclear, we assume he means America’s ”face.”

Erekat went on to say ”… if the United States vetoes accepting Palestine to the United Nations in the Security Council, uses its financial aid to the PA as political blackmail and leaves Israel as the source of authority, then in my opinion, the PA must cease to exist.”

Haartez provides additional details of Erekat’s threats:

The conference of Palestinian representatives that has been taking place during the past few days is part of the PA’s preparation for the expected vote in the UN General Assembly in September to recognize “Palestine,” based on the pre-1967 borders, as a state that will not be a full UN member.

“If the United States wants the Palestinian Authority to continue to exist, then the price is the establishment of a Palestinian state in keeping with the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Erekat told the envoys, according to a transcript of his remarks that appeared in the Al-Ayam newspaper.

According to Haartez, as recently as Monday Israel National Security Adviser Yaakov Amidror was considering cancelling the Oslo Accords sometime after the UN vote in response to the Palestinians’ unilateral action to seek statehood.

Erekat reportedly responded by saying:

“Israel’s actions in the field effectively canceled Oslo years ago,” and told the emissaries that the entire 20-year peace process with Israel should be reevaluated.

“The Palestinian Authority has a mission called independence,” Erekat said. “If the PA cannot achieve independence, it‘s better that it didn’t exist at all.”

So, is it really a bad thing if the PA were to dissolve? Or, would Hamas and other proxies of Iran just fill the vacuum?

He came over to start the PLA for the specific purpose to cause the trouble that they are causing now. Until then he had never been in “palestine”. Most of these troublemakers are from Jordan.       I can see how you might feel this way but if you are a believer in bible scripture and end time prophecy then seeing what is happening in Israel is exciting. Many folks do not believe in prophecy but I have been actively studying it for 30 years and never have I seen the unfolding of the Word as I have seen in the past 3 years, especially since Obama has come into power. I ask that you not stray away too far from being kept up to speed with what Beck is doing. Perhaps you should only visit the Blaze less frequently but to devoid youself of Truth I’m concerned that you may miss something really important. Just saying.

    The PA is threatening to commit suicide if the U.S. doesn’t love them and give them money and free stuff.
    It kind of sounds like fatal attraction or a stalker or something. Should we get a restrainig order? We aren’t supposed to give in to self-destructive blackmail are we? What do tjey expect us to think of them when they make a statement like that?

    This is an idle threat. Mahmoud Abbas knows his position has been weakened by the scheduled elections for unity of Hamas-Fatah. I believe Hamas’ Ismail Haniyeh will emerge as the leader of the unified Hamas-Fatah.

Taken as a whole, it is a brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to turn the United States into a socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs government for survival … and can be counted on to always vote for bigger government.

      Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.

      Universal health care . The health care bill had very little to do with health care. It had everything to do with unionizing millions of hospital and health care workers, as well as adding 15,000 to 20,000 new IRS agents (who will join government employee unions). Obama doesn’t care that giving free health care to 30 million Americans will add trillions to the national debt. What he does care about is that it cements the dependence of those 30 million voters to Democrats and big government .

      Cap and trade. Like health care legislation having nothing to do with health care, cap and trade has nothing to do with global warming.

    Technically, the answer is “Yes”, because it would indeed either improve OR worsen.

    As to what I think the pollster MEANT to say, I think Israel-Palestinian relations would improve, since Israel isn’t the party that wants to wipe the other party off the map.

    And not that I approve of the US being part of the UN (I don’t), but Obama, and the rest of the Marxist traitors here will end up supporting the PA at the expense of Israel.
