Palin Angry Over Leaked Excerpts of New Book: ‘Out of Context’

Sarah Palin’s new book America by Heart isn’t due out until next week. But excerpts from the tome have leaked out on the internet, in which she criticizes the show “American Idol,” her grandson’s father, and Michelle Obama. The Obama criticism has lead at least one liberal media outlet to insinuate racism. That has momma grizzly very upset.
“In a passage on perceptions of racial inequality in the United States,” the Huffington Post’s Geoffery Dunn writes, “Palin slams President Barack Obama, who, she asserts, ‘seems to believe’ that ‘America — at least America as it currently exists — is a fundamentally unjust and unequal country.’”
The passage referenced, from page 26 of Palin’s new book, says:
Certainly his wife expressed this view when she said during the 2008 campaign that she had never felt proud of her country until her husband started winning elections. In retrospect, I guess this shouldn’t surprise us, since both of them spent almost two decades in the pews of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s church listening to his rants against America and white people.
The website Gawker also poked fun at excerpts where Palin boasts about her kids, calling the section “a Christmas letter round-up of what all her fabulous children have accomplished this year.”
All that caused Palin to respond via Twitter on Thursday night:
CBS covered the controversy this morning:

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 12:17pmI admire Sarah greatly for the way she has been able to raise a family and particpate as a working mother who makes all that happen. She doesn’t buy into the whole notion that working mothers or fathers are so overwhelmed and then give excuses to why their families are disfunctional. Both of my folks worked and we had an orderly and loving up bringing. Both myself and my wife work and we managed just fine in raising three kids who are all well on their way to success, have jobs, don’t use drugs and have not gotten pregnant outside marriage. Maybe we’re one up on the Palins on that note but I consider them to be a very good family considering all the crap society throws at all of us. Go Sarah and shame on the publisher!!!

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 12:13pmFree speech rights are under attack and to call telling the truth borderline racist is just another attempt to silence all dissent in America. People are savvy enough to know that anything anyone says that is critical of the establishment agenda will be called racist or homophobic or sexist or hateful. These charges have lost their sting and when they are made simply backfire on those who make them.

There was a leak of book contents, which is likely a violation of contract law. But the people criticizing Palin are not the ones who broke that law. So, please explain how 1st Amendment right to free speech is under assault here.

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 12:08pmFor people who have uttered several blatantly racist remarks themselves, the Obamas sure do get a lot of slack from the liberal media… and how exactly is Palin being racist, here? She’s simply pointing out facts: Obama’s church is inherently racist.
Just read their pledge:
1. Commitment to God. “The God of our weary years” will give us the strength to give up prayerful passivism and become Black Christian Activists, soldiers for Black freedom and the dignity of all humankind. Matthew 22:37 – Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
2. Commitment to the Black Community. The highest level of achievement for any Black person must be a contribution of strength and continuity of the Black Community. I John 4:20 – If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother [or his sister], he is a liar; for he that loveth not his brother or sister whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
3. Commitment to the Black Family. The Black family circle must generate strength, stability and love, despite the uncertainty of externals, because these characteristics are required if the developing person is to withstand warping by our racist competitive society. Those Blacks who are blessed with membership in a strong family unit must reach out and expand that blessing to the less fortunate. Deuteronomy 6:6-8 – And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education. We must forswear anti-intellectualism. Continued survival demands that each Black person be developed to the utmost of his/her mental potential despite the inadequacies of the formal education process. “Real education” fosters understanding of ourselves as well as every aspect of our environment. Also, it develops within us the ability to fashion concepts and tools for better utilization of our resources, and more effective solutions to our problems. Since the majority of Blacks have been denied such learning, Black Education must include elements that produce high school graduates with marketable skills, a trade or qualifications for apprenticeships, or proper preparation for college. Basic education for all Blacks should include Mathematics, Science, Logic, General Semantics, Participative Politics, Economics and Finance, and the Care and Nurture of Black minds. Matthew 22:37 – Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind.
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence. To the extent that we individually reach for, even strain for excellence, we increase, geometrically, the value and resourcefulness of the Black Community. We must recognize the relativity of one’s best; this year’s best can be bettered next year. Such is the language of growth and development. We must seek to excel in every endeavor. Ecclesiastes 9:10 – Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do [it] with thy might; for [there is] no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic. “It is becoming harder to find qualified people to work in Chicago.” Whether this is true or not, it represents one of the many reasons given by businesses and industries for deserting the Chicago area. We must realize that a location with good facilities, adequate transportation and a reputation for producing skilled workers will attract industry. We are in competition with other cities, states and nations for jobs. High productivity must be a goal of the Black workforce. II Thessalonians 3:7-12 – For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labor and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us. For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect. To accomplish anything worthwhile requires self-discipline. We must be a community of self-disciplined persons if we are to actualize and utilize our own human resources, instead of perpetually submitting to exploitation by others. Self-discipline, coupled with a respect for self, will enable each of us to be an instrument of Black Progress and a model for Black Youth. I Peter 1:4-7 – To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness.“ Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must be able to identify the ”talented tenth” of those subjugated, especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor’s control. Proverbs 3:13-14 – Happy are those who find wisdom and those who gain understanding, for her income is better than silver and her revenue better than gold.
Those so identified are separated from the rest of the people by:
* Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another.
* Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons.
* Seducing them into a socioeconomic class system which, while training them to earn more dollars, hypnotizes them into believing they are better than others and teaches them to think in terms of “we” and “they” instead of “us.”
* So, while it is permissible to chase “middleclassness” with all our might, we must avoid the third separation method – the psychological entrapment of Black “middleclassness.” If we avoid this snare, we will also diminish our “voluntary” contributions to methods A and B. And more importantly, Black people no longer will be deprived of their birthright: the leadership, resourcefulness and example of their own talented persons.
9. Pledge to Make the Fruits of All Developing and Acquired Skills Available to the Black Community.
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions.
11. Pledge Allegiance to All Black Leadership Who Espouse and Embrace the Black Value System.
12. Personal Commitment to Embracement of the Black Value System. To measure the worth and validity of all activity in terms of positive contributions to the general welfare of the Black Community and the Advancement of Black People towards freedom.

This does not matter. Once out, this is in the public domain. Sarah retains her intellectual property rights but our public is free to use quotes from her book while this complies with Fair Usage.
If a crime, this would be a person who swiped excerpts, maybe by theft from home or computer, but this is doubtful. Release of excerpts is common for publicity.

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 1:18pmCHARLIE GO raises good issues, “I agree with your premise based on fair usage.”
Yes, this is part of our right to free speech. We must be able to cite words of others to enjoy free speech. There are rules of etiquette and rules of law to apply to provide guidelines. An example is this is a crime to steal and publish industrial secrets. However, once out in the public, we can quote reasonable amounts of those secrets for discussion or even for parody. The thief can be prosecuted for a crime of stealing, we cannot be prosecuted for using what is public knowledge even when this knowledge comes about through crime; Pentagon Papers, Wikileaks.
CHARLIE GO mentions a pet peeve, “Of course, plagiarism is a no-no–which many of our children have not been taught or inadequately stressed in school.”
This is a serious problem through today’s technology, specifically the web. Online, students can buy essay papers, term papers, research papers, literally anything related to school work, kindergarten to post-graduate work. This type of “cheating” is very challenging to detect. This type of behavior defeats the purpose of an education. Not only can students buy already written papers, students can hire people to do their research and write a paper.
I could make a lot of money doing this, but this is unethical; my dignity does allow for this.
Most, almost all universities and colleges take a hard line stance on this, being an ethical violation.
You write “inadequately stressed”. This is the majority problem. Teachers, perhaps English teachers, do include “plagiarism” during lesson teaching but as you write there is not enough emphasis upon this problem. By college, many students have no problem with plagiarism nor a problem with buying online papers to satisfy curriculum requirements.
Literacy rates here in America are unacceptably low evidenced by the average literacy rate of adults being at a low to middle high school level. Literacy rates are measured by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and by the National Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL). This seems beneficial until you examine the actual tests. Those tests are aimed at primary levels, usually around fifth to sixth grade level literacy; the literacy bar is very low.
One of the “tests” by the NAAL for average literacy skill is simply being able to understand differences in prices for the same product. This store, $1.99 and that store, $2.99 for the same product. If you can recognize this, you have “good” literacy skills. This is not much of a test.
An effect of setting low literacy expectations is students do not learn much about reading and writing. This leaves students with inadequate reading and writing skills. End result is students are given writing assignments and they do not have the skills to meet assignment requirements. This prompts students to plagiarize works of others which includes purchase of written materials.
On quoting, author attributes are always to be given in some form or fashion. This is a matter of ethics. Nothing wrong with quoting others, this great for discussion and is a common practice amongst academics for many types of essays, but author credit is to always be given.
Our young students today are not being taught acceptable levels of literacy. A significant majority of American adults are borderline illiterates. This causes harm to our peoples and to our nation.
For trivia, during my tenure as an English professor and a public school teacher, I would assess reading skills. A favorite question is,
“Mary Shelly wrote Frankenstein. What is the name of the monster in her book?”
Your readers take my test then research to find a correct answer. Most of you will fail this test and this is an answer you should be able to provide, correctly, quicker than a blink of an eye. This will answer for you if you are illiterate or literate.

Critically important. Having good ethics is more important than being a law abiding citizen. A lack of ethics is what prompts people to commit crime. More important, a lack of ethics is what prompts people to treat others poorly if not abusively.
An endearing story for you. During my childhood and during a good crop year, we often sold corn by the bushel to some residents around our rural Oklahoma farm. My grandpa is teaching me how to do this, has me filling up a wicker bushel brought by a old girl. I fill up her bushel to the brim as expected. Grandpa says, “Girl, you put two more scoops in there.” I do and her bushel overflows a little; she has a bit more than our agreed bushel of corn.
Later grandpa explains and adds, “Ain’t nobody who can accuse us of cheating.”

Real issue is mainstream political pundits twisting around words of Sarah into half-truths and lies. This also points to a lack of ethics. Use of slippery semantics and outright deceit is standard issue for our society. I will add this type of behavior is quite common to left liberals.

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 3:33pmSarah is one of the few political figures I would trust to tell the truth. There is always a look on the faces of these girls reporting the stories on Sarah that is smirky and condescending. I’d almost like to slap that look right off thier faces, but wouldn’t the left love that.

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 3:45pmShe needs to talk to her publisher – they do that with all books – she needs to get some business knowledge about her. http://maboulette.wordpress.com

The left isn’t terrified of her.
The left, right, and center think she’s an idiot.
The Tea Party (Extreme Right) thinks she’s the second coming.
Admittedly, she is very good at promoting herself and staying in the spotlight, but then again so is Snookie.
I‘m sure Palin isn’t a complete idiot. She just plays that part to appeal to her base.
