Palin Fires Up California Crowd: ‘Soon We’ll All Be Dancing’

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Saturday urged a roaring crowd of Republicans to exhaust themselves over the next two weeks to take back California and the country for the “little guy.”
The former vice presidential candidate addressed more than 2,000 supporters at a Republican National Committee rally in Orange County, a conservative stronghold in a state where Republicans hope to make gains this year.
“The momentum is with us but now is not the time to let up, now is not the time to celebrate — not quite yet,” Palin told a crowd wearing T-shirts reading “Proud Conservative” and buttons reading “Is it 2012 yet?”
“We can‘t be thinking that it’s over yet and we’ve got it in the bag. As Yogi would’ve said, ‘It ain’t over till it’s over,’” she said, referring to New York Yankees great Yogi Berra.
“Soon we’ll all be dancing,” Palin added.
(full speech below)
The event was the culmination of a three-day promotional and political swing for Palin through California — a state where she gets mixed reviews.
A Field Poll released last week found that 58 percent of the state’s registered voters hold a negative view of Palin, although she remains quite popular among Republicans. In addition, two-thirds of independent voters would be less inclined to support a candidate endorsed by her.
The state’s two most prominent Republican candidates this year — gubernatorial hopeful Meg Whitman and Senate candidate Carly Fiorina — were absent from the rally, citing scheduling conflicts.
Organizers urged the crowd to help out Republican state Assemblyman Van Tran, who attended the event and is challenging Democratic U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez for her seat in Orange County.
Palin isn’t the only big name politician to visit California in the run-up to the election. Former President Bill Clinton spoke at rallies for gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown and Sanchez on Friday and will campaign in San Jose and Napa Sunday.
President Barack Obama will visit Los Angeles next week to support Brown and Sen. Barbara Boxer.
Invoking former President Ronald Reagan, Palin told the roaring crowd she wanted a return to principles he espoused: “lower taxes, smaller, smarter government, less overreach and intrusion, strong, unapologetic national defense.”
Reagan, she said to a thunderous applause in a Marriott hotel ballroom in Anaheim, understood the little guy.
Wearing a red GOP baseball cap, 76-year old Erwin Vysma said he was thrilled Palin had helped the party swerve conservative after Republicans let spending spiral out of control under Bush.
“She’s doing a whale of a job,” Vysma said. “She fired up the base and hopefully we’ll all come out voting 100 percent, the Republicans, because God knows we need it.”
Palin will headline another Republican National Committee rally on Oct. 23 in Orlando, Fla.

Posted on October 17, 2010 at 12:34amHAHAHA! So if I dislike Sarah Palin I am a sexist? If I hate Barack Obama am I a racist?
Because I see her as a career politician who has very little private sector experience. Because I hate her little platitudes, inarticulate vernacular, and how she is philosophically barren.
I have listened to her speeches, read her writings, and examined her political history and I have found her wanting.
Sarah Palin is everything that is wrong with our party. She is nothing more than a political tool… a tool with the finesse of a jackhammer.

A number of people who heard the speech in a packed a hotel ballroom, which was closed to the media, said Mrs. Palin spoke from notes for 90 minutes and that she was articulate, well-prepared and even compelling.
“The speech was wide-ranging, very balanced, and she beat all expectations,” said Doug A. Coulter, head of private equity in the Asia-Pacific region for LGT Capital Partners.
“She didn’t sound at all like a far-right-wing conservative. She seemed to be positioning herself as a libertarian or a small-c conservative,” he said, adding that she mentioned both Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. “She brought up both those names.”

AND she didn’t even write the speech! It was drafted by Randy Scheunemann, the top foreign-policy adviser to her John McCain during 2008. Other contributors to the speech included Kim Daniels, an attorney for a religious-freedom group; Steve Biegun, a former Bush administration aide; and Dan Blumenthal of the American Enterprise Institute.

And not one of you can point to ONE article that she has authored that proves that much.

Those who are ignorant of what is reality always look like deer in headlights when they are hit by the van of reality :) Do your homework. And if you still think there is no substance there then I can only conclude that you are willfully blind to what is right in front of you. Is she Stephen Hawking? No, only Stephen Hawking is. But what you see is someone who has lived a real life, worked real jobs, has a real family and is not perfect by a long shot. Perfection is the allusion of the cynical pols and their followers. Why is it so hard to value a person for the mind that is not cynical or perfected? Someone that continues to learn instead of thinking they have all the answers? Its easy to put someone down and cast aspirations on their intellegience. It takes real courage to stand up and say I dont know everything and Im not Stephen Hawking, but I know what is wrong and I know what is right and I want to make things better for my children. Its easy to leave comments and cut people down. I see you like to take the easy road.

Report Post »She is SO effective doing what she is doing now that I think she may be in the perfect spot for herself.
As it is, she has a freedom and autonomy for herself that she would not have if she was holding office. She goes where she wants to go, supports who she thinks deserves it, and doesn’t have to contend with so much of the garbage that might otherwise drag her down……

Posted on October 16, 2010 at 11:49pmLove to see her on the public scene carrying the torch for conservatism. Hope she doesn’t run for President though. She would be more help in a support role. Then make her Secretary of Energy.

Posted on October 16, 2010 at 11:49pmI could only take three minutes of it. Her sing-song voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Sounds like she’s reciting the RNC talking points to a classroom of second-graders, which would be fine if she were talking to a classroom of second-graders. If we (the Republicans) are going to run a woman for Prez, PLEASE let it be Bachmann, who is a true professional.

Posted on October 17, 2010 at 3:08amThe problem I have with Palin is that while she throws around the right words I know for a fact that people like Paul Ryan are a much better option because they understand at a fundamental level the economics that need to be implemented. Sarah makes herself out to be kind of dumb sometimes and if she were to run in 2012 would be annihilated.

Posted on October 17, 2010 at 4:55amsnowleopard3200, you are so right! We got to get back to our roots. I mean it’s true that Reagan expanded the federal government and ran up the deficit but that was only to fight a recession. Sure the budget was balanced under Clinton but that was only because of Republicans. And Bush increased the deficit to a trillion bucks but he had 9-11 and wanted to cut taxes and we all know that assisted in job growth and gave us a robust, thriving economy until a couple of years before the end of his term when it became obvious a Democrat might be elected – then crash!
The sooner we get some people in office who support the corporations, and cut taxes, the sooner everything will be okay!

Posted on October 17, 2010 at 5:39amto JZS: you are playing with a faulty history there. Reagan only delayed a recession until the 90′s and he did such only with quick fixes for which we are still paying. You neglect the .com burst in 2000 and Bush’s “9/11″ caused deficit spending is still here as strong as it ever was in the two battle fronts. Those tax cuts only added to the deficit (by Bush’s own policy makers said the government will never recoup the loss of revenue-the math is obvious). Any jobs (which haven’t been accurately measured) that they could have been created were short term and unsustainable at best.
If you even paid attention to the unemployment rates, the private sector is adding jobs every month for the last several months. The only job losses of note have been government jobs that are being lost in part due to those tax cuts you seem to love. yet you still cry over the economy, but reject the only proven methods of helping it, which you seem to give Reagan a pass on.
So we decrease income to make up for a growing deficit? That is crazy. If you really cared about the deficit and were a patriot, you should vote for more taxes and less government to free us from debt. Any other college kid who got a credit card before a job in the last ten years can attest to that philosophy. .
to SNOWLEOPARD3200: Appearance and perception are all within the mind of the beholder, and are easily fooled without critical thinking and concrete logic. Ask any honest magician! People’s deep seeded confirmation biases and poor handling of cognitive dissidence (http://changingminds.org/explanations/theories/cognitive_dissonance.htm – it is a site a friend in public communication showed me) easily lead them astray.

Posted on October 17, 2010 at 8:51amI don’t think Ronald Reagan would be impressed by an endorsement of Carly Fiorina. Carly laid off over 30,000 American workers, and sent many of those jobs to India and China. This allowed her to get over $109 MILLION for herself out of Hewlett-Packard. In retrospect, Carly Fiorina stated that her “only regret is that I didn’t lay off more workers faster.” This is not a candidate for US Senate that is concerned about keeping America strong; rather it is a candidate concerned about becoming personally wealty and powerful. Carly, welcome to the Axis of Evil.

“I hope she runs also – the debates will be very interesting and she will never win!!”
I am not the brightest man on the planet. But, I do say Sarah is more intelligent than you. After all you cite the George Soros funded Media Matters as a credible source of unbiased truth.
You do realize that man that most likely signs your pay check, George Soros was convicted by France of insider trading?

You do realize that this evil billionaire has purchased Barack Obama?

Obama doesn’t care about you and your liberal values. Obama cares about himself.
You make a fine liberal. You are too obtuse to do any real critical thinking. You just regurgitate the Democrats’ hateful and vile allegations and slander because that is all you have left. Too stupid to realize you are being manipulated and taken advantage of.

Report Post »You know its funny because I have gotten a lot of flack from people for not doing my part in politics because I am told by everyone “but your so smart!” You know what I tell them? I tell them I will never be smart enough for those like you who believe that someone has to have a degree or have gone to a mind-numbing, indoctrinating 4yr college. I know people that have only a HS diploma to their name that have more common sense and smarts then 60% of those pols out there. So Sarah Palin is somewhat dumb? This is a person that balanced a budget, negotiated with foreign countries and oil companies, as well as looking out for the general welfare of a State. I have seen all the “SMART” people that we have put in office and all I see is one complicated mess after another. I am not saying she should or shouldn’t run for office. But I am so sick of hearing these armchair generals sit back and say “oh she isn;t smart enough to be president or run this country” How the heck would you know? How bout you run for office and see what you think of her afterwards. I have met her numerous times and have the occasion to talk to her before all this hoopla, when she was just the Governer. Have you?
