Palin: I Didn’t Mess Up Paul Revere History

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sarah Palin says she didn’t mess up her history on Paul Revere.

The potential 2012 presidential candidate was in Boston on Thursday as part of her bus tour when she was asked about the Revolutionary War hero.

Palin said Revere “warned the British that they weren‘t gonna be takin’ away our arms.”

Palin, a paid Fox News contributor, told “Fox News Sunday” that she was correct. She says there were British soldiers in the area for years before Revere’s legendary ride, and that he was warning them, as well as his fellow colonists.

The Paul Revere House’s website says that on April 18, 1775, Dr. Joseph Warren instructed Revere to ride to Lexington, Mass., to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were marching to arrest them.

    Be carefull reporters at The Blaze. Sarah is smarter than you are. She doubled down and remained vaque about the story. She is right and is providing rope to expose and hang the hacks. She has been dealing with a hostile or lame media for 20 years. Read “Paul Revere’s Ride” by David Hackett Fischer, an excellent book by an excellent author. The same author of ” Washington’s Crossing”.

      The Redcoats had set temporary roadblocks as a security measure and on their way to Concord they encountered British soldiers. Prescott managed to escape; Revere was captured and Dawes tried to run away but was arrested shortly thereafter. The British held Revere and interrogated him with a pistol on his chest. He was asked about the plans of the militia and where they kept their ammunition. When asked where the Patriots were hiding he told them the truth and replied that they had 500 militiamen in Concord protecting them and 1500 coming.

      GOOD LINK Celestialfire! But…facts don’t bear-out $arah’s statements “Even though the poet took many liberties in describing the event he also got many facts right. Starting with the date, April 18th, 1775 and the objective of his ride: to spread the alarm and to warn the country-folk to be up and to arm. He successfully completed his ride to warn Hancock and Adams.”
      Not to warn the British, and he wasn’t ringing bells. RUN, SARAH, RUN!! :D

      “Just outside of Charlestown, two British soldiers stopped him at a roadblock and grabbed the reins of his horse. The roadblocks were to prevent colonists from communicating with each other and to try to capture Hancock and Adams. He kicked one of the soldiers in the face and spurred forward, escaping capture. He arrived in Lexington and warned Hancock and Adams of Gage’s offensive movement and plans. He continued his ride on to Concord, where he was to warn the Patriots of the attack.”

      Just outside of Lincoln (before reaching Concord), Revere and Dawes were confronted by another British roadblock. Dawes got away and Revere was captured. During his interrogation by the British, he told the British a lot of information about their own mission, some of which those particular British soldiers didn’t even know! He also told them he had been riding around the countryside informing the Patriots of the British plot and that the British were at severe risk if they remained in the vicinity. He was bluffing of course, but with enough truth in his statements to make it very believable.

      A short time later Revere and his British captors heard a shot. Revere told them that the shot was a signal to alarm the country and the militia will be ready to mount their own attack. A few short minutes after his explanation of the shot, a volley of musketry from the direction of the Lexington meeting house sounded and immediately after that the Lexington town bell began clanging rapidly!

      In 1995, David Hackett-Fischer published a book, “Paul Revere’s Ride” in which he details the capture of Revere by the British. When stopped by the British, Revere warned them that he had alerted the whole countryside of their approach and that they should quit their mission. After telling them this, they heard the bells summoning the town militias (Minutemen) coming from different directions. Revere WARNED the BRITISH officers that they would fail in their mission to disarm the colonists and would meet with armed resistance. Read a book, learn something other that what Bill Mahr mangles….

      The fact is that in a 1798 letter, Revere himself wrote that he rode to warn Adams and Hancock that the British were coming to arrest them.
      “On Tuesday evening, the 18th, it was observed, that a number of Soldiers were marching towards the bottom of the Common. About 10 o’Clock, Dr. Warren Sent in great haste for me, and beged that I would imediately Set off for Lexington, where Messrs.       They still don’t get it! It has gone over their heads completely! My neighbor who incidentally just got her citizenship(she’s from Germany) was at my home when we saw this reported on. Having just finished her test and studied ahead of it for about a year, exclaimed-“But she was right”. WOW, it’s pretty damn bad when you are a member of the media and consider yourself to be part of the intelligentsia and an immigrant who literally just became a citizen knows more about your own history then you do.

Amazing thing I learned from the tour guide however, the poem written about him 100 YEARS LATER was not factually correct. Why according to Paul Revere’s own written word “he was taken into custody by the British” and in order to buy time for THE OTHER TWO RIDERS, he bloated the number of Americans he told the English he had warned so they might hesitate and give the Americans more time to get out there. Wow,BHAUB! DON’T YOU READ DEAR ONE? don’t you know your own history BHAUB? Why it appears even the “idiot” Sarah Palin knows more than you and that says nothing about the little man Bill Maher, who like the simpleton he is did an entire segment on this.       Oh, that’s a very good point. It’s extremely likely that any literature written VERY far after the alleged events- which were only upheld by word of mouth anyway- is entirely false.

According to Paul Revere, he was captured and interrogated by the British and warned them (the British) that American troops were prepared to fight. Just thought you might want to have all the facts.

    Almost as bad as Obama and the 57 States of America, and Bachmen thinking that the Revelolutionary war started in NH…..

    There were actually three riders that night. The truth is that Paul Revere never finished that ride that came to be named after him. Paul Revere was stopped by a British patrol on his way to Concord. In fact, he was riding with two other men, only one of whom succeeded in warning the Americans in Concord that the British were coming. William Dawes also rode with Paul Revere that night. He, too, was stopped by a British patrol. He managed to escape, as did Dr. Samuel Prescott, the third rider. Revere, meanwhile, didn’t escape until much later, and without his horse. He walked back to Lexington and made it there in time to witness part of the battle on Lexington Green. Dawes, meanwhile, got lost in the dark and never made it to Concord. Only Dr. Samuel Prescott reached Concord, where he delivered the warning, “The British are Coming!” And when the British came to Concord, the Americans were ready.

      And in Revere’s own words, after warning Adams and Hancock, he was captured as the British moved to take the Colonists stores (to include weapons). During his capture and subsequent interrogation, shots were heard all around in the darkness. The officer asked Revere what that was and replied they were warning shots of the approaching British.

      Now her version has the appearance of being shaky because she was probably asked as a sneak attack by the reporter. She wasn’t expecting the question. So she stumbled as she answered. But she is correct.

      The romantic but highly inaccurate Longfellow poem of the event makes us believe that the poem is the correct recounting of the Ride.

    I used to support Palin, but Democrats convinced me a woman can’t be President. Democrats claim they’re politically superior to Republicans. Democrats shoved an obviously better qualified Hillary aside like a bag of garbage, to push for a “community organizer” with no real experience. The MSM, mostly all Democrats backed that move and then mercilessly attacked first Hillary, and then turned their attention on Palin, someone more qualified in the Executive branch of government than the community organizer, but yet another woman. They’re still attacking today. The obvious conclusion, Democrat see that a woman should never be President.

I was respectful. It doesn’t pay to pull a dogs ears. I have to give the Post credit though. They did not censure me. And when the replys got really bad they deleted the Lib replys and left my initial message. There are a few “conservatards” on there. More are needed though. Word of warning though… they do not tolerate statements of support for Israel or Christian values. I tried to tell then the only places in the world where womens rights are supported is in Christian countries and Israel. It never got posted. Give the Huffers a try…great fun.

      In 1995, David Hackett-Fischer published a book, “Paul Revere’s Ride” in which he details the capture of Revere by the British. When stopped by the British, Revere warned them that he had alerted the whole countryside of their approach and that they should quit their mission. After telling them this, they heard the bells, drums, and musket-shot summoning the town militias (Minutemen) coming from different directions. The mission? to seize the munitions at Concord that the Colonists had stored. The warning he gave to the British? That they couldn’t disarm the militia, that they would be met with armed resistance. By the looks of it, Palin was historically accurate.
      Too bad the media and libs suck so bad at historical research….. =(

      Paul Revere did not ride to warn the British of anything. He rode to warn the Colonists. The war they fought was the statement to the British, not Paul Revere’s ride. 

      If your honest to yourself and watch the clip of her being questioned she was very uncomfortable when replying and then said her statement which was not correct. 

      Im no Palin hater but she did mess this up. I honestly think it caught her off guard and she tried to ad lib thru it messing up. 

      If your trying to defend error or make it ok because you like her it is the same as the bad BO worshippers. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Glenn Beck to Sarah Palin: “Which founding father is your favorite?” Sarah’s weak response: “All of them.” (Same response to Couric’s “gotcha” question on newspapers) The irony of her constantly spouting off about the founders and major players in our country’s history and being totally ignorant of that history at the same time. How inspirational. She’s had three years to get ready and apparently has wasted that time.

      A quick analysis of the demographic spectrum that includes, age, education level, party affiliation, income, race, religious affiliation, etc. that most fervently supports Mrs Palin; helps put her defenders ability to see this woman for what she is in a much clearer perspective. A more cynical way to look at it might be the short bus passengers on a bridge to nowhere…but then I’m not cynical.

      My pity for the Palin family extends only to Piper, the use of this innocent child as media tool is not just suspect parenting, it calls into question her mother’s judgement in the most profound ways…simply disgusting.

      Just to set the record straight,

      Revere became a trusted messenger for the Massachusetts Committee of Safety, an organization set up to resist the British. He foresaw an attack by the British troops against the location of military supplies in Concord, Massachusetts, and arranged a signal to warn the patriots in Charlestown, Massachusetts. During the late evening of April 18, 1775, the chairman of the Committee of Safety told him that the British were going to march to Concord. Revere signaled by hanging two lanterns in the tower of Boston’s North Church. This showed that the British were approaching “by sea,” that is, by way of the Charles River. He crossed the river, borrowed a horse in Charlestown, and started for Concord. Arriving in Lexington, Massachusetts, at midnight, he awakened American rebels John Hancock (1737–1793) and Samuel Adams (1722–1803), allowing the two men to flee to safety.

      Revere was captured that night by the British, but he persuaded his captors that the whole countryside was aroused to fight, and they freed him. He returned to Lexington, where he saw the first shot fired in the first battle of the Revolutionary War (1776). This ride and series of events were made legendary by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807–1882) in the poem “Paul Revere’s Ride.”

      You are all wrong. It was Samuel Prescott who made the ride. Paul Revere never reached Concord. He got credit for it because his named was used in the poem. Didn‘t I learn this on Beck’s show or was it somewhere else? :)

      I am not one that wants Palin to be our president, and I heard about this mis-hap of hers on the radio, a local conservative host. And as I was listening to him, i was siding with him….he was saying this was a big mistake for her, even though he liked her…..and he gave details about why it was a mistake…..

      After watching this clip, i was like…okay now i have to see the original mistake, so i found that video and watched it, and my opinion is that it is being blown way out of proportion…they way i was made to understand it is she said “paul ravere” was on a ride to warn the British” and that was it….after watching the mistake itself i couldn’t help but think….we have all made mistakes in the words we use, and this just sounds like one of them….seemed to me like two thoughts collided at the same time and got stuck, and out popped what she said..it doesn‘t mean she doesn’t know her history….That being said she should have admitted that she made a mistake instead of trying to make it right……
