Palin Pushes Cookies to PA Pupils While Talking Presidential Run

During a speech at a Pennsylvania school on Tuesday, Sarah Palin continued hinting that she might run for president, and delivered a glancing blow to the current lady occupying the White House by passing out sweet cookies at the event.

After one student finished a performance Palin asked if he would like to sing at an inauguration. “Not necessarily mine!” she shouted. The crowd cheered.

Later, Palin said that she is considering a presidential run, but that she’ll decide “after prayerful consideration and a survey of the political landscape,“ because she ”would be in it to win it,” CNN reports.

But the most memorable part of the event might be Palin’s hands-on shunning of government intervention.

“I heard that there’s a debate going on in Pennsylvania over whether public schools were going to ban sweets,” Palin said. In response, she brought cookies for students she met with earlier in the day. “I wanted these kids to bring home the idea to their parents for discussion. Who should be deciding what I eat? Should it be government or should it be parents? It should be the parents.” The crowd cheered again.

“I look at Pennsylvania and I think of sweets — I think of Hershey. Then I think, how dare they ban sweets from school here,” Palin added.

Palin made her intentions clear earlier in the day via Twitter:

Palin Pushes Cookies to PA Pupils While Talking Presidential Run

The local debate Palin refers to comes from a story in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. That story said that Pennsylvania schools are considering banning sugary drinks foods. However, the state education board said that the characterization of the proposal by Palin and paper isn’t true: it is considering guidelines, not a ban.

Accordingly, the paper ran a correction:

A story on page B1 of Monday’s Tribune-Review incorrectly portrayed the Pennsylvania State Board of Education’s proposed nutrition guidelines for school parties. The board is examining regulations to encourage schools to serve more nutritious foods. There are no mandates to do so.

I very much want Sarah to be our first woman President, but she will have to carry the independent, female, and Hispanic voters in order to win. I think many women won’t vote for her out of shear jealousy! It is also obvious from the double-standard all women had to endure these last two voting cycles, including Hillary, that many men do not think a women is capable of being President. I would love to see a Palin-Rubio ticket in 2012 and will work tirelessly for her if she decides to run – Go Sarah!

I’m with Palin on this one – I think encouraging children to have healthy eating habits is important but I am not for banning food. If parents don’t like the lunches served in school, pack their lunches. I would also prefer if Michelle Obama focused more on exercise and getting kids away from video games rather than body size. Kids get teased enough – they don’t need the First Lady saying they are too fat. When I was in school and I know it was there when my daughter was in school, the kids competed for the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. On a proud note, my daughter received it every year except one, the year she broke two of her fingers (I was not so athletic and never even came close). A program similar to get kids more engaged in sports or activities outside would do more than banning sugary treats – once something is banned it becomes more enticing.

One of the school systems in our state went on high alert and actually suspended a student for having some kind of candy on the school grounds. Major lawsuit.

Our District was actually considering banning sugar containing products, but then the PTO pointed out that one of their key fund raisers was selling cookie dough. A student would actually be courting suspension for bringing home the frozen cookie dough his parents purchased.

Then the District considered banning all drinks containing sugar and all sodas, which left everyone with water, milk, coffee or tea. Since elementary school students aren’t supposed to be drinking coffee or tea, their choices were water or milk. The kids have my sympathy here, since I am lactose intolerant and would have been limited to water, which I don’t mind, but gets kinda boring day after day. If the high school students actually did manage to get coffee or tea, they’d have to drink it without that poison, er, I mean sugar. See how crazy it can get???

The more serious aspect of this story is, for years now the Liberals have slowly at first and now steamrolling the nanny state mindset. The attack on smokers, booze, salt, sugar, McDonalds, trans fat etc. It was simply a trick to see how long and how much the American public would let those idiots take away personal freedoms. Now they think they have grown enough balls that they can do anything they want. I just hope it’s not to late to reverse this.

And the thing is: They couldn’t care less about the health of anyone. Michelle pounds in the burgers, Al Gore churns out massive amounts of carbon, and then they push carbon trading and restrictive food laws “for the good of the people.”

Unfortunately, I fear MANY citizens will not see what is happening until the US military is taking them to internment camps “for the safety of all.” Perhaps they will not even get it them, until they are lined up to be shot “for the good of the ‘green’ planet.”

      Carnival Syndrome.

This is much like looking at a bearded lady on display at a carnival freak show. You really don’t want to pay a dime to look at this bearded lady but you just have to look. Same is true for Michelle Obama’s circus wagon backside; you just have to look and end up wishing you had not looked.

How many of you remember when entering a carnival freak show tent only cost ten cents? Seemed so very expensive back then. Today, a dime will not even buy you time on a payphone. I figure Michelle’s backside is worth about as much, a dime.

I think Col. West has a terrific future, by which I mean, Oh Yeah, White House! However, I’m afraid it is too soon for him to lead the ticket, lest we be ourselves vulnerable to the charge of inexperience and pushing a “quota hire” over his head –and you KNOW the lefties will have no shame when it comes time to start with the racial insults. And as appealing as Sarah is on many counts, I’m also afraid that she has lost the credibility necessary to be on the national ticket, at least with the huge swath of “decider” voters out there. Also, with the Tea Party having lost significant face in this recent election (with a write-in beating out Sarah’s T-Man for Senate right in AK), that may be a sign that the Rs should aim slightly more to the mainstream for 2012 — though not as far as McCain, of course! It will be an interesting two years…..

      @ LONGHORN MAMA,

Please understand that I mean no disrespect, but you have to understand that men and women are not built the same. We have different proclivities – that’s just the way we are, it’s our identity, which is why certain kinds of roles are more befitting of men than women, and the other way around.

I see Feminism as extremely destructive to not only the male identity, but the female identity, so to the extent that gender defines us is the extent to which this issue concerns me.

When you get the chance, will you please read this article? It helps explain what I’m talking about, though it was written for a different reason:

@A Doctors Labor Is Not My Right

Sarah didn’t “quit”; she reloaded in order to fight for what is right on a fairer battlefield.
She promised to keep the frivolous anti-Palin law suits away from the Alaskan people ( saving tax money and time) and to be more effective on the stump ( supporting candidates , fundraising, etc)
Sarah Palin was truthful on both accounts!!

In an article Sarah Palin said:
“I said, ‘Enough. Political adversaries and their political friends in the media will not destroy my State, my administration, nor my family. Enough.’ I knew if I didn’t play their game any longer, they could not win. I would not retreat, I would instead reload, and I would fight for what is right from a different plane.”

Sarah Palin resigned because she recognized the cost that the frivolous ethics complaints were having on her state , and she saw how much of her staff’s time and her own time were forced to deal with those issues. She wasn’t able to effectively fulfill her role as Governor, so she passed the reins onto someone who didn’t have to be concerned that if he sneezed in the Lower 48, an ethics complaint would be thrown at him.
Palin’s entire administration was paralized by those frivolous complaints, only an idiot wouldnt be able to see or admit that.

She saw that if she stayed on as Governor it would continue to cost the state millions of dollars in wasted time and resources to defend against false and maliciously ethics complaints and doom it to gridlock.
Sarah had to step down for the better of her state and it was the honorable thing to do.
She promised that she would “effect positive change outside of Government”, and she has most definitely done that.
Sarah has been able to speak more boldly for both Alaska and all Americans for the conservative principles this country was founded on now that she is outside of office and without the concern of a possible ethics violation been thrown at her.
Sarah Palin told us all why she resigned when she resigned. If some people still don’t get it, well, that’s their problem

This is the kind of silly nonsense that obscures any kind of adult conversation about the subject. Not mentioned above is that the proposed ban is the school SELLING candy. Parents can still send their kids with a one pound bag of chocolate if they want. Parents can send their kids with any food they want. You just make or buy whatever you want your kids to eat, put it in a lunch bag, and send them to school.

You’ve missed the point, the “government” isn’t telling kids what to eat. The argument taking place on this irrational thread is that we should REQUIRE schools to sell candy. That’s a real government takeover. Why not hold parents responsible for what their kids eat? Why make it mandatory for the schools to sell junk food? That’s your case?

I am a big fan of NARTH but I do not know where you are going with this. Women and men are obviously different and have different goals in life. But that does not mean God will not call a woman forward to be a leader. Yes, her family might suffer. But, don‘t you think Ronald Reagan’s kids suffered, too, and that is why most of them turned out so bad. I am glad Palin and her family are praying about it and will try to follow God’s will for their life.
