Palin Releases Facebook Video in Response to Shooting

Sarah Palin has officially broken her silence and responded to criticism that she is somehow connected to the shootings in Tucson. The response came via a video on her Facebook page released Wednesday morning, and included her calling the shootings “inexcusable” and “incomprehensible” while accusing journalists and pundits of “blood libel”:

Sarah Palin: “America’s Enduring Strength” from Sarah Palin on Vimeo.

In addition to the video, Palin included a written statement of her remarks.

“After this shocking tragedy, I listened at first puzzled, then with concern, and now with sadness, to the irresponsible statements from people attempting to apportion blame for this terrible event,” she said.

She went on to quote Ronald Reagan in encouraging the country to hold the shooter, not society, responsible, and also alluded the her oft-referenced congressional “target” map that singled out Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’s district:

President Reagan said, “We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.” Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own. They begin and end with the criminals who commit them, not collectively with all the citizens of a state, not with those who listen to talk radio, not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle, not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their First Amendment rights at campaign rallies, not with those who proudly voted in the last election.

She also made sure to call out the actions of the many news outlets and journalists that politicized the issue. “But, especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn,” she said. “That is reprehensible.”

To those who blame the shootings on violent political rhetoric, she posed a couple questions: “But when was it less heated? Back in those “calm days” when political figures literally settled their differences with dueling pistols?”

“America must be stronger than the evil we saw displayed last week,” she concluded. “We are better than the mindless finger-pointing we endured in the wake of the tragedy.”

I think it was very magnanimous of Sarah to break her silence first, so that Obama and his speechwriters could see what resonated with the citizens. This selfless act allows the President to modify his speech to something more acceptable. God knows he needed that.

man, her speech made her look petty and self absorbed, when you show that kind of speech, next to baracks speech, you see how far behind of him she is. She could be president, in like, 20 years, if she went to school, got some brains etc. and i agree, she looked physically ugly this time. when her looks fade, the wheels will fall off that wagon.

I have always appreciated the passion of Sarah, but questioned her ability to lead our country. This is, beyond a doubt, the best speech she has given. If nothing else, her message was the most genuine I have heard since the tragedy in AZ. Thank you Sarah for gracefully responding to the disgusting, immoral, self-serving, hateful discourse of those who have tried to use the shooting as political leverage.
I hope there are more Americans with Palin‘s sincere love and honor for this country than those we’ve seen and heard over the past week on MSM outlets. God Bless the victims of the Tucson shooting and continue to bless the United States of America.

I agree with your sentiments exactly. More than anything else the President of the US is a figure head. The only issue I have with Palin is her hawkish, expansionist, and interventionist McCain like, Lindsey Graham like foreign policy stance. Please for the sake of god bring our Armies home and remove them from all foreign soils!

      Please consider the following quote:

“I spent 33 years and 4 months in active service as a member of our country’s most agile military force–the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from second lieutenant to Major General. And during that period I spent most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism. I suspected I was part of a racket all the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all members of the military profession I never had an original thought until I left the service.”

Where is the rest of the Republican Party? Sarah Palin is no longer an elected official and she seems to be the only one that gets it! While she seems to be lone voice of common sense within the Republican Party, others are trying to take my constitutional rights yet she defends them in the court of public opinion. Did you notice that she mentioned the victims as in all of them? It would appear only Democratic law makers, the major networks, and elected officials only value the life of those in the ruling class .

“IF” a teleprompter was used no doubt SHE wrote the script. Your “self-proclaimed Lord” not only can’t speak (lousy orator) he can’t even write his own speeches. That is so obvious watching him stumble over the words he’s reading (because he has no clue what words will appear in front of him) and because he makes so many gaffs, shows his arrogance and gets SO angry over the anything that doesn’t follow his insane path.

Sarah… presidential… just maybe (smile). Obumber… not presidential… without a doubt. Anyone STILL following this putz Obumer cannot fabricate an intelligent thought of their own. Cannot survive without a handout. Is NOT a true American.

I like her speech at the convention, much more than McCain’s, but no, she did not speak as well then as she just did now. I have seen her do videos recently where she could well have used a teleprompter and it wasn’t tis caliber. She has improved markedly. She’s stepping up.

From a cynical political perspective this works great for her, for any politician, something Obama’s fans noted before. Clinton used Oklahoma to elevate himself. Sarah is now the first out of the box with such a responce. Perhaps other potential candidates wish they could have posted a responce like this. But for them there would have been an easy accusation to make that they were exploiting Tuscon for political gain. Yet for Sarah there is a natural immunity to a charge of political exploitation because she has been specifically attacked. She has naturally responded. The libs called her out. They INVITED her to speak, and everyone will see it that way.

The libs have set the stage for a drama in which they thought they were the heroes and she the villain. How stupid they are. It reminds me of Marc Antony‘s speech at Ceasar’s funeral. Brutus and Casius thought they would witness him grovel in public when he actually turned the tables on them and captured the hearts of the crowd.

      Tifosa,
Yeah, but so what? I was talking about the emotional resonce of the term. The practical effect of the blood libel against the Jews was to make them all appear guilty as a class of indefensible violence and bloodshed. It is not too much alteration of them term to use it to apply to a group accused as a class of complicity in violence by their mere association. Are you saying that that term, or any term, cannot be redefined? Are you saying that it “belongs” to the Jewish people? I suppose no one can use the term holocaust, even though a holocaust technically is an offering made to God (What a misuse of the term. Tell the Holocaust Musuem to stop it). That game is akin to the attempt by liberal blacks to prevent conservatives citing MLK, or liberals in general forbidding us from quoting JFK.

The left will twist this the same way they always do with regard to any conservative:
They‘ll charge that she’s only responding because she’s guilty.
That it’s too little too late.
      That she’s a moron.
      That she’s a liar.
      That she’s a hate monger.
      That‘s she’s a puppet for big business.
That she hates old people and children, wants them to starve or die without adequate care.
That she wants to pollute the planet and poison the entire population.
That she wants to drink your blood.
That you are a robot, too stupid to think for yourself (why else would you not see what “they” see?).

Whatever the facts are, it doesn’t matter. This is the way every conservative has been, and continues to be characterized since I began paying attention to politics. I don’t expect the left to change now. They feel wounded by the last election and the failure to establish their utopian country where every need is provided by the government. The “vitriol” they are seemingly so concerned with with with be ratcheted up and up. By them. The level of their vitriol is in inverse proportion to how threatened (politically) they perceive. If they lose the Senate, or the Oval Office in ‘12, their nonsensical charges will reach heights surpassing the Bush/ Cheney years. There is little doubt.

I do not think she should try and attempt to be president. I do however think that she would make a wonderful vice president if we can find the right candidate for president to compliment each other. I think she needs a little more time in this capacity before I could cast a vote for her for president. On the other hand if my idea changes and she does run for pres and it comes down to her or the usurper, I would naturally vote for her not some misguided loser who cannot even produce simple documents to the american people. Bush may not have been liked and many wondered why he did not stand up for himself but I think that is because he was the President. He may not have spook as presidential as many would have hoped but what was more important is that his actions were that of a true leader and very presidential. Obama may be able to read off a teleprompter and sound presidential but he is thin skinned and whinny and does not act very presidential at all.

Palin is a very good speaker and she is not in any way a political figure at this time. She is a citizen of the United States using her free speech to say what many are thinking. She holds no office. I love that she is a citizen that will stick up for herself and others. I believe she will someday be a great leader but I think her job right now is to hold all politicians feet to the fire (just as it is for all of us to do). She does more for our country right now by being out there speaking her mind then being enclosed in a political office. Keep up the good work Sarah, God bless.

Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance by: Barack Obama

The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream by: Barack Obama

Conversations with Myself: Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama

America: The Story of Us: Kevin Baker, Barack Obama

Yes We Can! Speeches of Barack Obama: by Barack Obama

Our Enduring Spirit President Barack Obama’s First Words to America: by Barack Obama

Inaugural Presidential Address: by Barack Obama

Remarks by the President on a New Beginning – Cairo University – June 4, 2009: The White House by Barack Obama

The Politics of Hope: The Words of Barack Obama (1st Edition) by Barack Obama

The Promise of America: Barack Obama‘s Plan to Restore America’s Greatness by Barack Obama

The Greatest Gift I Could Offer: Quotations from Barack Obama on Parenting and Family (1st Edition) by Barack Obama

And there is more… 75 titles with him as author… Sarah Palin has about 2 or 3 books… Who is trying to “capitalize” on off this country!!!! Looks like facts AGAIN trump the leftist, progressive march against the Great United States and the mean old nasty white capitalist that only want to destroy and profit… ooops!

Now to Glenn… he is an entertainer and has said that on TV and on his radio show… He is not a sitting politician and therefore your argument is again faulted… He is a capitalist and is making money from writing, speaking, and doing TV about his opinion of the current affairs of this world. If you do not like what he has to say… turn the channel: that is if you ever watched in the first place… which if you did watch you would not be able to make up all the lame lies you blog he says…

The incident in AZ has no connection to any of the values we have for this country. The only values we share with in this incident is the love, support, Charity, Hope and Faith that we will overcome this monstrosity that has occurred. I like others on the “right” of the political arena cry out against the violence this lone gunman and anyone else who would use type of action against innocent people, as well as the lefts false accusations against us.

And BTW… if you think us gun toting, constitutional loving, freedom loving, God fearing “People” of the United States of America are going to be pushed into a fight….you are wrong! There may be what you would call, rednecks and bible thumpers out amongst us… but that does not make one stupid! Only stupid people listen to rhetoric and incite angry violence and anarchy. And the winner of the stupid title is!!!!!!! yup: you dumb a$$ liberal, progressive, communist, democrats. Give your part back to the good democrats… OH and go get some Prozac… your angry BS is ruining the country!

And yes I too am a capitalist and try to make a living and pay my own bills and support others by being an employer… hence:

      http://www.mentordvd.com

Your support of my DVDs helps to employ 7 full time employees that do not need government assistance and not make me rich!!!

      THAT is the American way!

It’s funny how liberals react to this woman. She really scares them for some reason. If she’s so dumb, why do they talk about her so much?! It’s OK guys. Go turn on Keith Olberman and breathe. Shhhh…there, there now.

I love Sarah Palin and I would take two bullets for her. She is American as we so far have only dreamed of being. We will overcome and we have already won. We are seeing the death throws of Communism and Islam world wide.We have more than enough power and their stupidity is never ending. God Bless America, land that I love, stand beside her and guide her through the night with a light from above.

      @ PUBICHAIRPENCILGEEK
Al Sharpton!?! “As honest and as forthcoming as Al Sharpton”!?! You have absolutely no credibility, sir. Al Sharpton has made his entire fortune on DIVISIVENESS! In his article he stated that “IF” he contributed to the climate….“IF”???….Sharpton is nothing but a race-baiting opportunist…..and that is all that he will ever be. He and Jesse Jackson have set the table for this political climate….if you disagree with them, you are a RACIST…..the very same strategy used by the sitting President of the United States and his Progressive cronies…..Sharpton doesn’t want debate….like most every other Progressive, he simply wants his way…and no other way will do. What a horrible example to use for your point of view, sir…..

Ha! Thanks for taking the bait HillbillySam. My point was that, for all of your hatred for Al Sharpton, it would be hard to deny that he is actually taking at least some kind of responsibility for his words, unlike Ms. Palin, who prefers in this case to play the victim.

I think PubliusPencilman is correct, Al Sharpton’s angry rhetoric is what probably pushed this poor young man over the edge.

Sarah Palin spoke from her heart & soul. She reminded us of God. She reminded us of how great America is. She reminded us as to who was truthfully responsible for the terrorist attack. …And she reminded us of what anger & hatred does to people who have an agenda to politically destroy innocent people. God bless America & God bless Sarah Palin & keep her safe.

It makes me ashamed to read comments that echo madness. You are supposed to be a reasoned Conservative no ? Why ever sink to level of a crazy liberal whacko? Did Palin not take the high ground? Please follow her example ….defend but dont just be a guy that says “I know you are but what am I ?”

The Giffords shooting brought out worst from the media.
The media have spent as much time trying to assign political blame for the cause of the shooting as they have trying to unearth facts. As it turns out, the murderer is a mentally unstab…le individual, with no coherent political ideology.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that political vitriol played virtually no role in Jared Lee Loughner’s shooting spree. His political thinking is hardly coherent, and his obsession with Giffords predated the tea party and Sarah Palin’s emergence in national politics. One of his few close friends told Mother Jones that he became fixated on the congresswoman when he asked her a question at a 2007 town hall about “the government having no meaning” and felt she didn’t answer. His killing spree wasn’t motivated by disagreement with her positions on health care or immigration.

Based on the available evidence, Loughner sounds like someone with untreated mental illness, whose grasp of reality grew ever more tenuous with time. He fits the profile of someone whose horrific shooting spree didn’t have to be triggered by any provocative political rhetoric in the news.

But even with those facts out there, it didn’t stop numerous media outlets from connecting his beliefs to politics — and isn’t stopping the continued rush to politicize this tragic event. The fervor to fit such craziness into a political matrix is regrettable, and, sadly, contributes to the overheated political environment that many in the media are condemning in the first place.
