Palin Says She Was Wiki-Hacked

The website of Sarah Palin’s political action committee came under cyberattack from supporters of Wikileaks and its founder, Julian Assange, the former Alaska governor said Wednesday.

The 2008 vice presidential candidate told ABC News it’s an example of what happens “when you exercise the First Amendment and speak against his sick, un-American espionage efforts.”

In a posting on the social networking site Facebook last week, Palin called Assange “an anti-American operative with blood on his hands.” She questioned why he wasn’t “pursued with the same urgency we pursue al-Qaida and Taliban leaders.”

According to activist Gregg Housh in the New York Times, “1,500 people were on online forums and chatrooms including Anonops.net, mounting mass and repeated ‘denial of service’ attacks on sites that have moved against Mr. Assange and WikiLeaks in recent days.”

A cached page from Anonops.net show Palin’s site was a suggested target. Another cached page from the groups Twitter account shows MasterCard, Visa, and PayPal were also targets:

Stephen Gutowski reports at Eyeblast.tv, however, that the account has been suspended by Twitter for its actions:

Palin Says She Was Wiki Hacked

Rebecca Mansour, a SarahPAC aide, told The Associated Press that staff moved quickly to secure the website and no data was compromised.

Hackers acting under the label “Operation Payback” claimed responsibility for problems Wednesday at the websites for MasterCard and Visa, which stopped processing donations to Wikileaks after it released secret U.S. diplomatic cables.

Mansour also said Palin’s husband, Todd, had been contacted by Visa and was told “a company in London was trying to access his account this afternoon for verification.”

Visa advised him to quickly close his credit card accounts, and he did, Mansour said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

    These “hackers” are spoiled brat little bullies. One was caught & arrested today. He was 16 years old. It’s a game to them. When we, the world (not just the USA), do not teach the difference between right & wrong or ethics/God to our youth this is the type of thing they’ll do. They simply do not see that what they are doing is wrong… just revenge for their leader. This is the problem with some here also – lack of ethics.

    The kids doing these attacks ‘Anonymous’ are nothing but young teens to twenty year olds. If you want to see for yourself! Go to 4chan.org. DDoS attacks are nothing to be concerned about. I hope these major corporations hired a competent IT security specialist to deal with things exactly like this. The sites are not getting “hacked”. I doubt a DDoS attack with change anyones mind. It’s to embarrassing to back down to a bunch of kids saying “please stop flooding our sites with packets”. They’re a bunch of scriptkiddies.

    I believe they are attacking those that call for the limitation of the freedom of speech of Wikileaks.

    Other victims of the attacks (Amazon, Visa, Mastercard, Paypal) are suspected to have bowed down to 3rd party requests (ie US Government) to stop supporting Wikileaks with their provided services.

    - Supposed duplicity of both Visa and Mastercard to drop Wikileaks but continue to support the KKK

    Facts regarding Wikileaks
    - approx. less than 1000 cables have been released so far
    - http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/12/07/wikileaks/index.html
    - Wikileaks worked with 5 newspaper outlets in releasing this information
    - http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5i0Vruimmvy8loGklsz34QyGDKMDA?docId=120c7bf5d3a34dbaadf1280dace2e456
    - Wikileaks’s policies on handling the cables
    - http://213.251.145.96/static/html/faq.html

    Since Wikileaks has published the cables on their site, this makes them responsible, yes? What does that mean for all of the news sites that are sharing and reporting the information? These news organizations are found on US shores as well as outside its borders. Shouldn’t they be prosecuted to the full extent of American law as well?

    Why is the US only seeking to attack Wikileaks? Because they’re the ones that received the documents from an informant? Aren’t the news outlets being accessories to the crime of publishing sensitive and confidential information? Where is the outrage and litigation towards them? Is the one-sidedness of this reaction ethical?

    What reports are there that people have died due to the release of information from Wikileaks, whether from these recent cables or otherwise?

    Why do American ideals, like equality and freedom of speech, stop at American borders? Aren’t they inherent principles for all to strive for? Is it okay for oppressive governments to exist? Is it okay for tyranny to exist?

    Just bear in mind: a lot of these same people have attacked pedophiles and animal abusers, and even tracked them down and gotten them prosecuted. They have also attacked Oprah, Church of $cientology, The Young Turks, and dozens of other people. They have even attacked themselves… just because it’s funny.

    ANY excuse to attack someone, and it sets off a chain reaction. But as a rule, this doesn’t keep up for more than 4 days. People lose interest and drop off, or get divided among other targets… since it relies on volume to be effective, once enough people drop off and service resumes, everyone else gives up as it’s pointless. It starts slow, and ends very fast. Palin getting some flak isn’t a surprise; the nest has been poked, and the swarm is buzzing. So she has her own little swarm… big deal. Give it a few days and things will be back to normal.

    Now, if only we could just get the media to stop sensationalizing this “hacking” like they do with everything else… they are causing more hysteria than the actual “hackers” (15 year olds) are.

    DDoS attacks are hardly “hacking”. These are clueless kids using harmless software. In fact, you all have a CMD prompt so can do it yourselves with a simple script.

    It only works en masse, is very amateur and crude, and for most people (without VPNs / hijacked networks) exposes your IP address for anyone who actually wants to prosecute… although that is messy and expensive, which is the reason why nobody cares about doing it.

    This isn’t hacking. It’s the equivalent of crowding a doorway. Go there now and call them all idiots, and watch them get mad and do absolutely nothing about it because they can’t.

      The information was stolen by one person and then passed on to someone else. At the very least the thief is guilty of stealing government property and wikki leaks is guilty of receiving and distributing stolen property. Just think of it as paper clips instead of documents…If the army private stole a quarter million paper clips what would he be guilty of? Does he have the freedom to do that sort of thing? Gathering information without permission is a criminal offense and not “Freedom of the Press”. Some of the material that has been released could lead to all out war. I wish I could reply individually, but I can’t so here we go.

      @BlazingInSC
      The founders considered the rights afforded in the Bill of Rights to be universal rights afforded to all men, not just those living within US borders. Also the text is “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press” so the government has no authority to abridge the freedom of the press of anyone, anywhere, not just US citizens. It would be espionage if he were giving the documents to a foreign government, but since he is merely publishing them, he is a journalist and protected by NY Times v US.

      @mdlwoods
      Your comment reeks of nationalism. Pride in the actions of one’s government is inane and nationalism tends to make people blind to the evils that their governments commit. Your reductio ad absurdum argument is fallacious. No one is saying the government should reveal all current mission critical information. However, to argue that the corruption and abuses of government should be allowed to remain concealed is immoral and shows disdain for liberty. If you look at what Assange actually released, there is little to no current mission critical information. And btw, I am an American, a principled libertarian American who reviles government intervention in any aspect of life.

      @memyselfandi
      Your analogy shows you are lacking significantly in your understanding of the law of scarcity and why theft destroys liberty. There is no scarce good here whose use is being prevented. There is no economic cost to reproduce ideas. The government was not denied access to its documents because they were copied. And traditional journalistic investigation often involves the acquisition of data without permission. And your reductio ad absurdum argument is also unsound. Using the just war theory, the fault is placed upon the ones who initiate the use of force, not the dissemination of information.

      @slwolfgram
      I won‘t respond to ad hominem attacks from statists who believe the state has the right to take away the liberty of citizens who have caused no injury to another’s liberty.

      Cyberterrorism is exactly what the regime wants to “combat”… just like drugs, illegals, poverty, illiteracy, debt, and everything else they cultivate. It’s just about expansion.

      Call me crazy, but the left wanted a drilling moratorium on America for decades… and as soon as they got into power to make their final push, an oil rig owned by one of their largest and longest running sponsors exploded, making headlines in the MSM for weeks. Fears ranged from oil slicks for years to the entire gulf floor collapsing and causing a methane-driven mass extinction event (and they call Glenn Beck a fearmonger?) so now America can’t drill.

      They want to water down the population and create another “victimized minority” underclass to “fight for”, so the borders have signs on them warning AMERICANS to stay away while illegals flood in. They attack all attempts by state and local governments to secure themselves (ignoring the same legal angles when it comes to their supporters breaking the law) and build powerful lobbies with the sole purpose of unifying Central and South America against North America, socially and financially. Again, with the MSM on their side to the point of calling border patrol “Nazis” and entire states “racist”, all based on LIES.

      They want to create a legal dependent voting army, so they promote (sickeningly, and with a disturbing amount of patience) abortion, single parent families, disintegration of the family unit, social segregation, and perpetual underclassness to the point that large sections of society are completely dysfunctional, and chronically so from generation to generation. It’s like they are breeding the human out of us. Now there’s crippling debt and people who are practically farmed by the government for votes.

      They wanted to take over the internet for years, and as soon as they move from health care and onto the web, a hacker leaks secret documents and cyberterrorism is the top story… again, with the full compliance of the MSM. Now there are “cyberterrorists” (15 year olds) “hacking” (flooding) servers, and everyone is panicking.

      I could go on.

      If the MSM is covering it full bore, the Obama administration wants it, and is more than likely the source of it to begin with. You can’t just argue “Oh but it’s big news, of course they are covering it” either, because Climategate, Van Jones, and ACORN all went conveniently “unnoticed”. During every one of those events, the top story was Michelle Obama’s arms, or her hair, or Lindsay Lohan. Climategate alone- the heaviest blow to the largest attempted hijacking of wealth in world history- outed the MSM as criminal. We should be paying attention not only to what they aren’t reporting, but what they are reporting… it’s just as important. You can also tell when something is part of the template when outlets start using the same phrases, as contained in WH / community press releases. Naturally occurring news, like entertainment / filler material is all freestyle and dynamic, because it’s real. But for reaction policy-shaping events, they walk in lockstep. Right down to the same language and headlines.

      This is all so obvious by now it should be insulting. I don‘t know why more people can’t just admit it at this point: Western leadership is made up of domestic terrorists, and they are attacking us on multiple fronts. They have been for a long time, and it runs throughout all parties, although predominantly the ones on the traditional left. You can’t beat around the bush. Just say it. Glenn always talks about watching the other hand… well, half the time he’s just watching another finger on the same hand. The other *hand* is out starting fires in the streets and online. I understand he has a limit to how far out on the limb he can go and how much he can wargame, as he‘s so high profile he’ll be destroyed in an instant. He has to play it extremely safe to the point of crippling himself, but it’s up to us to take that next step. It’s just COMMON SENSE. He throws hints at you all the time, and even says it outright:

      “There are many things I believe that I shall never say, but I shall never say the things I don’t believe”

      Read between the lines; it works both ways. And remember, this is the takeover of the entire planet… nothing is off the table. Grasp the gravity of this, or you’ll fall short. You can’t just stop because “that’s crazy”. Nothing is crazy anymore. All criminals are human, and humans run the world… and criminals climb through society faster than most. Unless you check for yourself and continue to follow up, you can’t call something crazy.

      If you think the CIA, FBI, NSA etc are immune to this too, just think of it this way: Look at how many corrupt and / or insane people made it to the top right in the public eye: Obama, Gore, Bush, Clinton, Jones, Sunstein… how many are there you don’t even know the names of? Nameless cogs in the machine? Do you think it’s easier to infiltrate the White House than the FBI? The FBI prosecutes illegal DVD sales. It’s not the glorious, super elite organization everyone thinks it is. They are just people.

      If you can get commies in the White House, anything is possible. You can’t just look at the White House, the UN and the media. There’s NSA, CIA, FBI, DHS, NASA, ATF… all federal, and all out of the spotlight. All with a history of corruption if you bother looking, and all with the upper hand: secrecy, and American’s respect to maintain that secrecy. As usual, your trust is being abused.

      You don’t halfheartedly perform a global takeover. You go all out… and they have been positioning their pieces for decades, so think big.
