Palin Swipes Christie: There‘s No Courage in Spending Cuts When You’re Broke

Since taking office last year, Gov. Chris Christie has become an inspiration for many conservatives across the country who praise the New Jersey Republican for tackling serious budget imbalances and cutting government spending in the face of heated opposition from labor and special interest groups.
In a Friday interview on Fox Business Network, however, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin reacted slightly differently to Christie’s “tough love” governing, claiming true leadership is having courage to cut spending when state government is running a surplus. Governors like Christie, Palin notes, are making budget cuts because they have to, not necessarily because they want to as she did as Alaska’s top executive.
With all due respect to Governor Christie, you know he has no choice but to cut budgets because he’s broke, his state is broke. What courage really is, is in the face of having a surplus when you have opportunity to spend spend spend the people’s money, you still choose to reign in government to let the private sector soar. That’s real courage, and by the way that’s what I did as Governor here when I engaged in hiring freezes and reduced earmarks by 86% and vetoed the largest amounts in our state’s history. Despite having a surplus that’s real leadership and that’s courage.
While Palin noted her respect for Christie and other Republicans who are tackling budget deficits across the country, is her critique justified?
Here‘s the conclusion of Palin’s FBN interview:
Palin also weighed in on entitlement reform during a primetime interview with FNC‘s Bill O’Reilly where she stressed the importance of privatization and increasing the Social Security retirement age:
Earlier this week, Fox News announced potential 2012 contenders and FNC contributors Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich would be indefinitely suspended until they decide whether they’ll pursue a presidential bid. Noticeably absent from the announcement, however, was any hint at Palin’s future plans.

Posted on March 4, 2011 at 11:08pmIt was an unfair and unnecessary swipe. Christie hasn’t had the opportunity to be a governor with a surplus, so how can he be questioned about what he’d have done with one? He came into office with a mess to clean up and that‘s what he’s trying to do. He certainly articulates his message as well as anyone out there.
I’ve had enough of Sarah Palin, I think. Saw her on O’Reilly this evening. She used the slight satellite delay as a stalling tactic to avoid offering specific answers to specific questions, and to fill her time with her usual generalized catch phrases and sloganeering. I have admired her for what she’s been able to achieve in her life and for having the courage of her pro-life convictions, but this snide/snippy comment about Christie showed a severe lack of judgment and I hope it puts to rest any speculation about a presidential run. I understand why there are those who would vote for her, but she flat out can’t win and her candidacy would ensure us of 4 more years of Obama. My humble opinion. Flame away.

Posted on March 4, 2011 at 11:40pmHate to break it to ya, but Palin would win Iowa and South Carolina to make the guy from Jersey look rattled.
She’s got more experience as far as Obama is concerned and Christie. As years as a city councilwoman, mayor and governor, she knows how to cut budgets.
Not to mention her invaluable experience as Chairman of the Oil and Gas Commission. And right now we are paying $3.50 a gallon for gas. She’s the only person who knows the ins and outs of that industry, not Christie.
Second – Palin is not only the fiscal conservative but she is the socially conservative candidate. Christie is NOT. He has more in common with the moderate republicans and has also DOWNPLAYED the Tea Party influence while Palin has gotten her energy from it. Big Difference.
FYI – The slight swipe she took was payback for the swipe he took at her a couple of weeks ago. She‘s not afraid to play with the big boys and certainly won’t be intimidated by a big talker like Christie.
Christie is a Romney wannabe.

Posted on March 4, 2011 at 11:45pmIt appeared she was just ticked because orielly didn’t give her a chance to read her entire “talking point” and so she used the excuse of the delay – I could be wrong but there did not appear to be one when she was interviewed by David Asman. What a phoney she is!

She can’t beat Obama, period. Keep insisting that every candidate meet your 100% ideological purity standards and see how well you do with more Sharon Angles and Christine O’Donnells. They doomed us to another session of Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader, and a Palin candidacy will doom us to a second Obama term.
If it was Clinton in the White House, I‘d be all for ideological purity because a loss wouldn’t be so disastrous, but we don’t have that luxury.

She moved to a battlefield where she could go on offense and not stuck on defense. It was a brilliant move on her part, and AGAIN she saved her state a ton of money!
Report Post »Now, she simply made a truthful observation about the position that MOST governors are in, they are in budget deficits, and HAVE to cut. Christie isn’t the only one, so I don’t know why everyone is making it so personal, he is just one example.
She is better at political sparring than her detractors like, and it eats them up! you can see it oozing out of the negative comments here.
As for the White House, there are alot higher standards to bring ethics charges against POTUS than the governor of AK, so it would be a different battlefield altogether. No, she wouldn’t quit, because her enemies couldn’t stall the business of the nation by bringing false allegations. Get some context, and get a clue!

——————————————————–
I love Sarah and have been doing everything I can to help nudge her into running for POTUS, but lately I have had to change my mind. We are in such a dangerous time of history that we are going to need a exceedingly strong person to be our president for the next 8 years. I’m now convinced that the person for that job is none other than Col. Allen West. All he need to do is get a VP running mate that can handle economic policies like a Christie or Paul Ryan, maybe even a Ron Paul.
So do I think Sarah could be our president? Heck yeah! Just not yet. Sorry Sarah please don’t be mad at me. I didn’t suggest her for the VP position because I think she is better suited for the leadership position, so maybe she could be the nominee in 8 years. She’s still quite young, so there is plenty of time. IMHO of course.

It’s how our system works. Embrace it and let the best man or woman win. The “Let’s hang together…” line will apply later. A lot of people are convincing themselves that she can’t win because you are buying the hype that the MSM is selling. I think we will have some good candidates to run against Obama. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd.
Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don’t have a clue as to political reality.
What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want.
The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn’t have a clue than there were Republicans.
Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you’re smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That‘s why I’m a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.”

Sarah is right and she has the fortitude to speak the TRUTH. Just because someone stands strong on budget cuts does NOT make them an obvious choice for President. We have many other important issues to weigh.
The rest of the Republican pack fears her because they know she resonates with the people, so they attack her. It simply puts a bad taste in the mouth of those who support her toward the REPUBLICAN PARTY. That’s why I consider myself a conservative not a Republican.
She is a true conservative who understands the importance of MORALITY. Those on the right who bad mouth her are just exhibiting their shallowness and fear. Posted on March 5, 2011 at 4:18amChris Christie has taken unnecessary swipes at Governor Palin in the past. So, it wasn’t out of line for her to return some fire and do so by exposing Christie for who he is.
Christie is not the conservative so many people think he is!
* His budget passed only after three conservative Republicans were bullied into voting for it and the savings achieved in the budget were done at the expense of new taxes, new fees, federal Stimulus funds and accounting gimmicks; the 2% property tax cap will actually cause taxes to skyrocket; he has yet to propose the “across the board” tax cuts he promised as a candidate; the budget actually INCREASES state expenditures by 6% and the number of staff in the Governor’s office making $100,000 per year increases by ten;
* His confrontation with the unions is pure Kabuki theater with nothing accomplished but acrimony; he has yet to lay off a single state employee and his proposed 2011 state worker reduction plan is little more than window dressing;
* He has populated his cabinet with notorious liberals while firing the only true conservative – after slandering him;
* He has endorsed notorious RINO candidates in the 2010 mid-term election while avoiding (with one notable exception) contact with conservative candidates;
* He supports a multi-state Cap & Trade scheme known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and is so committed to Cap & Trade that he used funds raised from RGGI’s carbon auctions to help balance the budget; he has directed that state funds be appropriated to subsidize “green” technology ventures such as off-shore windmills;
* He has refused to join other state attorneys-general in a joint lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare while accepting federal funds for the implementation of a similar program on a statewide level;
* He is on record saying that he does not believe illegal aliens are here illegally; he has indicated that he supports amnesty for illegals; he generally favors strict gun control and he supports construction of the Ground Zero Mosque even as he condemns those who oppose it.

I am glad that Palin is finally getting her record out with regards to her administration in Alaska. Following Palin’s policies and actions during the good times economically, Alaska now has a budget surplus! Not too many states, if any, can say that. When she quit, for reasons obvious to anyone paying attention, Sean Parnell didn’t change anything in her administration, personnel or policies. For all practical purposes the Palin administration continues to this day.
My advice to Christie is to enjoy his notoriety while the MSM still considers him a novelty and doesn’t viciously attack him over every utterance or begins the day by day criticism of his record and every other aspect of his life which will surely come if he does become a serious contender.

It just turns out that he was elected by New Jersey voters to fix a budget mess, and he’s doing that. He real test will come if/when the state returns to prosperity. Will he exercise “tough love” fiscal restraint then?
Report Post »Sarah Palin’s comment is being construed as criticism of Gov. Christie, including my you, my friend. But that is reading more into it than what she really said. She’s right!

Posted on March 5, 2011 at 7:44amYou are dead wrong about that. Palin is right even if you don’t like it. Maybe she could have said it better but what we need are politicians that understand that they need to cut government whenever they can. Chris has a real problem compared to Palin’s stint as governor. He is governor of one of the most liberal states with one of the highest tax rates in the country. He has a three part government like everywhere in he USA and has to deal with a liberal legislature and a liberal court system and a very, very ,very liberal press. Palin has the courage to cut when she had money but she also had a press and a legislature and a court system that were much more friendly BEFORE she ran for VP. That is her only mistake but she is correct, 100% correct. YOU are wrong. She would make a great president because like Christie she isn’t afraid, as you are, of speaking the truth.

Anyone that that would take a little time to research her record in Alaska would see that everything she did there was to the benefit of the citizens of Alaska. I see her as huge threat to the progressive agenda, but mostly to the establishment in the republican party. She cleaned house when she became Governer and I think many in DC are afraid she would do the same there. The media and establishment are here to divide and conquer, as many can see by these blog posts. Gov. Palin didn’t “quit”; she reloaded in order to fight for what is right on a fairer battlefield.
She promised to keep the frivolous anti-Palin law suits away from the Alaskan people ( saving tax money and time) and to be more effective on the stump ( supporting candidates , fundraising, etc)
Sarah Palin was truthful on both accounts!
Governor Palin has endorsed 73 candidates for the US House of Representatives and Senate; state governors and attorney generals. Her success rate is at 71%.
18 out of 20 targets in her Take Back the 20 campaign ; this is a 90% success rate!
In an article Gov. Palin said:
“I said, ‘Enough. Political adversaries and their political friends in the media will not destroy my State, my administration, nor my family. Enough.’ I knew if I didn’t play their game any longer, they could not win. I would not retreat, I would instead reload, and I would fight for what is right from a different plane.”
Gov. Palin resigned because she recognized the cost that the frivolous ethics complaints were having on her state , and she saw how much of her staff’s time and her own time were forced to deal with those issues. She wasn’t able to effectively fulfill her role as Governor, so she passed the reins onto someone who didn’t have to be concerned that if he sneezed in the Lower 48, an ethics complaint would be thrown at him.
Gov. Palin’s entire administration was paralyzed by those frivolous complaints.
She saw that if she stayed on as Governor it would continue to cost the state millions of dollars in wasted time and resources to defend against false and maliciously ethics complaints and doom it to gridlock.
Between the frivolous ethics complaints, 27 in 6 months, and the uncooperative legislature, who had previously worked very well with her, she determined that she could no longer serve Alaskans well.
The ethics complaint investigations had cost Alaskans $2+ million dollars in 6 months. In the 3 weeks between when she announced her resignation and when she stepped down, 3 more complaints came in. At that rate, these systematic complaints would have cost Alaskans $8 million by the end of her term.
She also saw that her family was not personally in debt for $500,000 for 6 months of ethics charges. Again, at that rate, her family would have been in debt $2 million by the end of her term.
She had also fufilled all the campaign promises she made, i.e., ethics reform, budget cutting, earmark cutting, getting the natural gas pipeline off high center through an open, transparent, and competitive process!!
Gov. Palin had to step down for the better of her state and it was the honorable thing to do.

Posted on March 5, 2011 at 9:55amShe could easily say she had courage in leaving. The amount of scrutiny and press would essentially make her job harder to do and what good she could do through her position as governor would be harder simply because she has been targeted. Case in point, have you heard any news about the new governor?
I would advise Christi to take the high ground and say why it is easy to make the decision that cuts have to be made I made the hard decision on where those cuts should be made.

Christie is a one trick RINO politician<<<not a fat joke!
Palin is right…he's cutting because he has too. He was elected because he was the lesser of two evils (we didn't want Corslime again). I personally spoke to Candidate Christie and told him NJ needed to become an RTC State because it would (like every RTC State) lower the out of control violent crime rate. He said that he agreed, but then I find out he is very much against Second Amendment Rights (go figure a another Politician who says what you want to hear). He and his elitist AG Paula Dow (also Anti 2A Rights) are presently involved in a law suit against NJ's law abiding citizens (you don't hear him talking about that) http://saf.org/viewpr-new.asp?id=346 Thank God for the Second Amendment Foundation (NRA has fully deserted NJ) and ANJRPC…they are at least fighting NJ on the 2A front.
He has said or done nothing against Obamacare (can you say voting block). He claims to be pro-life, but has a pro-choice Lt Gov. He's for Cap and Tax, Amnesty for illegal aliens and appointed an attorney (who voluteered to represent detained terrorist suspects),to serve on the Passaic County Superior Court. President Christie…I think not! Palin/West or West/Palin!!!
BTW Christie has been taking swipes at Palin…he started a couple of weeks ago…because "He" who is not interested in running is very much afraid of someone he's not running against!!!!

I really like Sarah Palin…I mean, I’d love to have her as a family member…like a sister or something…even a neighbor would be cool…BUT…there is something so very bizarre about the way that she speaks…is it that she is so defensive? It is so odd…makes her hard to listen to…Maybe it is just a lack of cadence, a lack of rhythm…and that lack of “flow” makes her sound like she isn’t telling the truth or speaking “from the heart”…AND…yet I know that she IS! So weird!

From every post so far it looks like I should add FLATFOOT.
Christie is a RINO.
You dumbocrats have your own party if you want him nominate him there.
Stop trying to cram RINOs down our throat just like you did with McLoser in 08.
Sarah biggest fault is that the majority of uninformed idiots have fallen for the mainstream media lies.
Those of you against her that are not ******* trolls, be honest with your self.
Have you independently even looked at her governor record?
Or do you just go with what the media feeds you?
I remember the media trying to say Reagan couldn’t win either. They claimed he was a dimwited actor that dismantled California.
Were they right then?
Sarah is not my horse in this race, but those of you calling her dumb…….
“Stupid is as stupid does.”
Look at her life. Now look at yours. I rest my case. NEXT!!

Posted on March 5, 2011 at 12:14pmWhen you are not a Billioniare like Gov. Korzine and when state lawyers do not defend you against frivolous lawsuits then what else do you do. As proven by those with PDS it did not matter that she was aquitted in almost every case (99%) but it was costing her personal money to defend her record as Governor with Private money. At some point you have to detach from the idiocy and the idiots that keep coming at you with the suits and move on.
And her point is that it is easier to make the decision to cut Gov’t spending when there is no real money to spend and the Republicans hailing Christie as the next Republican Messiah are deluding themselves when it comes to having to make real hard choices. You can fight Union Leadership all you want. And it is easier to cut spending when there is nothing to spend with, just ask anybody that has lost a job on how they think about money. When people have jobs the spend like drunken sailors especially when the credit flows freely, but when you have no more money to make even the credit payments the spending stops.
Not so with Gov’t spending because they feel that all they need to do when they run out of money is to create higher taxes and fees.
So would I vote for her if she was in the 2012 race, I would be thinking long and hard about it considering that after George Bush 41 I voted third party every election until 2008 because neither party was doing it for me. And since I get badgered to vote every 4 years I voted for the other guy.

Posted on March 5, 2011 at 2:09pmIF Christie runs, I doubt he will say anything negative about any of the other primary candidates. his temperament seems to be to run only against the real opponent, The One, from the start and treat the primaries as only a warm-up for that direct engagement with the common foe.
In fact, I think any of the potential candidates would be wise to keep Reagan’s Commandment in mind at all times – Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican.
I don’t think the conservative ground troops and voting base are terribly interested in a candidate who tears down other viable conservatives just to futher their own ambition. Knifing other conservatives in the back is not what I would deem a display of potential leadership. Since the primaries are about who will be our team’s leader for at least the next 4 years, back-biting and negative attacks are foolish strategies. Such acts may produce some short-term benefit for an individual candidate, but displays a serious lack of long-term perspective in leadership.
The conservative base is not nearly so interested in who scores the most points in attacking other conservatives, or even nearly-conservatives, as we are in leadership – firm, resolute, focused, and unabashedly conservative leadership.

Posted on March 5, 2011 at 4:00pmYou may be correct about that. However, your assertion that Palin was a coward to step down as Governor of Alaska may be flawed. Didn’t she step down to eliminate the large number of frivolous lawsuits the state was having to defend? Didn’t she step down so the government would not be hurt by the carping and constant harassment of the libs? If those are indeed the facts, then she should be commended for doing what was in the best interest of the state and not staying on so she had a national platform.

Even Ann Coulter admits that, and she loves him. Sarah tells it like it is. That’s what gets her some heat from the established GOP. What THEY dont truly believe is that their jobs are on the line too. If you believe a smidgin of what Beck is saying, times are going to get tougher than anyone realizes. Then watch the blame game. Posted on March 5, 2011 at 9:54pmI like Sara as a person. I think she is a great spokesperson for the cause. But, she has yet too explain why she would even consider being a running mate with one of if not the most progressive republican in Washington. Mcain is a war hero and I respect that, but what happened to him when he got to DC? He was the worst possible choice the RNC could have made, especially against the great community organizer and his Unions, that by the way Mcain has allways supported. Cristy has shown more courage in the face of all of his opposition. He made campaign promises and he is keeping them. He is what this country needs to recover from Obama and the communist. I believe he would destroy anyone that the progressives could throw at us, simply because he is a man of his word so far. Frankly I feel he is the only hope we have of winning in 2012 because I see no one in the hunt yet that has kept thier promises. He is a devoted family man also and believe me if there was a skeliton in his closet it would have already been exposed. I pray he changes his mind and runs.

Personally , I think he as well as Wis-cairo should give the unions all they want till they are TOTALLY broke, till they get IOU`s for paychecks,and have to stand in bean and bread lines , after all most of the unions are responsible for the problems the states are in. once they are totally broke , they will disband and go away , Then they can entice business` and prosperity back to their states ! and never allow the commie loving maggot unions back in ,,,,,,,,,because as one from Texas I will tell you without a doubt >>> , there will be NO bail out money from US !!!!!!! Posted on March 6, 2011 at 9:04amOn the other hand, it just might propel her into the position. Your stand is one that comes from the loudmouthed minority. The majority, made up of honest, hard working Americans, who don’t spend most of their time protesting or getting their face on TV, have already spoken about this (remember last November?) No, taking away our personal hate for the women, you will have to admit her facts are right. If you have no choice to do what you have to do, how does it take courage to do it? If your house is on fire, it takes very little courage to get out of it. However, it does take courage to stay in the house and make sure everyone else gets out safely. It even takes more courage to be outside, and go in to get folks out. She was driven from office by the left, she did not quit, she stays and fights for true Americans when she can just as easily sit back and watch socialists ruin this county. But she doesn’t. She’s one of the few who have the balls to actually attack mediocrity in the Republican party. Good for her! Most of us out here are tired of the “Washington insiders” running things. Time to change things up a bit. We started in November, hopefully we never stop.
