Pam Anderson Tells Ultra-Orthodox Jews to Go…Topless?

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Former “Baywatch” star Pamela Anderson said Sunday she will try her powers of seduction while in Israel on an unlikely audience — ultra-Orthodox Jewish lawmakers.

Anderson, an honorary director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is in Israel to participate in the local version of “Dancing with the Stars.”

Her work for animals “has been really inspiring,” she said. “I feel like I have actually done something.”

An anti-fur bill has been put on hold in Israel over concerns by ultra-Orthodox leaders that it could impact production of the characteristic fur hats worn by some men from Hassidic sects on holidays and other festive occasions.

To combat growing secularization of Jews to European society in the 18th century, Hassidic Jews decided that their way of dress should remain intact and not be influenced by fashion. Descendants of these communities to this day wear the black hats and coats of that period, including, at times, fur hats.

Anderson called Israel a “progressive” country because it had no fur farms, and said that it can serve as “an example for the rest of the world.”

She said she intends to speak about the issue of fur to Israeli religious leaders on her trip.

“It’s almost 2011. There are so many alternatives to things. We can be compassionate in our choices,” Anderson said.

She said she tries to incorporate her campaign for animal rights during other “Dancing with the Stars” shows around the world.

Late Sunday, Anderson visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the holiest site where Jews can pray.

I fiercely support animal rights. This overall goal of PETA is good but I am equally fierce in my opposition to their “terrorist” tactics. Nonetheless, I am morally obligated to defend PETA as a matter of truth. PETA is not directly involved in “eco-terrorism” but PETA does fund some organizations who are involved in eco-terrorism. PETA is addressing this issue.

PETA performs a lot of good for our nation and our world. This is beyond question, especially after a person takes a little time to learn about PETA. Preventing cruelty to animals, saving lives of animals, providing spay, neuter and euthanasia services, those are highly beneficial services and there is no logical argument against those good deeds.

We humans are well known for cruelty to animals, just as we are well known for destruction of Mother Nature. This destruction of nature also destroys us. We cannot continue on with this wholesale slaughter of Mother Nature and survive; we are killing ourselves.

I support cattle ranching for food and for leather goods. I support chicken farms and turkey farms. Those are a type of business absolutely required for our survival as the human species. Contrasting, salmon of the Pacific Northwest are now endangered. Whales are endangered. Tigers, lions, elephants, wolves, eagles, many animals, perhaps most animals are endangered by humans.

We must stop with this wholesale slaughter of Mother Nature. This is morally wrongful.

Our Tea Party suffers some extremists we would rather not have around. PETA and similar organizations suffer the same type of extremists they would rather not have around. This is simply reality and is not necessarily a reflection upon our overall Tea Party nor a reflection upon animal rights groups, overall. PETA is a good organization but inherently is not free of problematic people.

Whales and wild horses are my favorite animals for activism. I love all animals, just as I love Mother Nature, but there is not enough time to tend to all animals nor all of Mother Nature. I frequently write to the president of Japan to chew him out for killing whales to be served up in sushi bars, and I frequently write to Obama to chew him out for rounding up and slaughtering wild horses to be rendered into glue.

Do we really need Elmer’s Glue so much we are willing to kill horses?

This PETA campaign, “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” is an excellent logo and business model. Yes, there was a time centuries back, thousands of years back, we humans relied on both meat and fur for survival. Today, we still need the meat, we do not need the fur, nor more than we need to wire a computer into a monkey’s skull to understand human nature.

Reality is we humans are abhorrently cruel to animals and to all of Mother Nature. This must stop. This morally wrong, and this is an act of slow suicide for our human species.

I encourage readers to support PETA and I encourage readers to _truthfully_ critique PETA when clear problems are discovered. PETA is a good organization but has room for improvement.

Posing nude for PETA, I am sure none see this as a problem, especially you boys.

      @okpulot
As always, I am impressed with your devotion to truth. However, PETA is not. They spread propaganda and lies all the time. I will give you one example. I am a knitter and PETA was opposing wool yarn with claims that the sheep were skinned alive. Sheep wool is obviously sheared. The animals would suffer greatly without this annual haircut and are not hurt in any way. Their fleece can weigh up to thirty pounds and is obviously VERY WARM. They don’t skin sheep any more than the barber or hair stylist skins a human when we get a haircut. I think we all love animals here and want to preserve Mother Nature and endangered species. But PETA strikes me as more human-haters than animal-lovers.

LONGHORN MAMA comments, “They spread propaganda and lies all the time.”

I agree to a measured degree. This is my “problematic people” comment.

Our family used to donate to Green Peace each year. However, Green Peace started dabbling in politics and this prompted us to stop donating. Green Peace has admirable goals and you can sense a “but” coming. Like so many good intent groups, Green Peace did a lot of good work early on but became drunk on power and strayed from their original intent. Same happened for us with the Sierra Club which has good goals but became too political for our family.

Becoming drunk on power is quite common to all activist groups, which includes our Tea Party. PETA enjoys honorable goals but is plagued by extremists. Our Tea Party is a great group, and we have some extremists creating problems for us. Christianity is not exempt from this problem of extremists, Christianity has a horrific past record.

What is important for all of us is to recognize a majority of people involved in goals common to all of us, are good people. We know protecting Mother Nature is a good goal. We know bringing our federal government under control is a good goal just as we know Christianity is a good goal. What creates a problem for all good goals is this minority of extremists who tend to have the loudest voices and receive the most publicity leading people to be quick to judge all people based upon the behaviors of the few.

This, Longhorn Mama, is why devotion to truth, even when truth hurts, is so very critical. We have many reasons to critique PETA and other activist groups but we must be careful not to toss the baby out with the wash water.

Our Tea Party faces a challenge of extremists. Some of those extremists are here at the Blaze engaging in “propaganda and lies” using your words. Those extremists cause us harm, cause our nation harm, just as extremists within PETA, Green Peace, Sierra Club and other groups cause harm to their own causes.

Our task is to be truthful even when truth hurts. Only truth will set us free.

JOHNNY BRAVO adds to our interest, “So i guess you support peta killing 97% of the animals in their care?”

I carefully read your linked web site, made a point to visit and read all pages available. What I found circles back around to my contention we must be truthful even when truth hurts. This group, “PETA Kills Animals” is clearly an extremist group which mixes truth, half-truth and deceit to support their clear agenda of destroying PETA amongst other groups they disfavor.

This web site I visited at your suggestion is too easily exposed as an extremist agenda driven group whose only intent is to cause problems rather than offer solutions.

      This is their stated mission:

      ——

“PETA Kills Animals” is a project of the Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the full range of choices that American consumers currently enjoy. In addition to malicious animal-rights activists, we stand up to the “food police,” environmental scaremongers, neo-prohibitionists, meddling bureaucrats, and other self-anointed saints who claim to “know what’s best” for you.

      ——

Wording of their “mission” makes this very clear they are an extremist group with a singular goal of “smearing” a variety of groups for questionable reasons. This group smears but offers no good intent, offers no alternative solutions. A little fact checking discloses many of their “facts” are simply deceit.

My personal opinion is this “PETA Kills Animals” outfit is looking to line their pockets with money donated by gullible people.

      I agree (mostly) with Okpulot–

PETA has done much good for animals and will continue to do so. Pamela Anderson’s campaign to Hasids was timely and worthy.

Factory farms must go, they are an endangerment to all, including the two-legged–but as the saying goes, only when the last fish has been caught, only when the last tree has been cut down, only when the last river has been poisoned will he realize money cannot be eaten…

When humans learn to respect their other-specied companions on earth then much disease, distress and disaster will disappear.

It’s time we start eliminating our screen names and go by our given names. If we want our words to mean something we must be willing to stand by them. This simple act will expose the trolls and immediately make them irrelevant. As long as they can hide in our ranks, they will have power to manipulate…without disguise, they will disappear into the shadows where they belong. At worst, they will form up and make an easier target to discredit immediately.
