Parental Nightmare: TSA Security Checks for Children

A video making the rounds online today purportedly shows another incident involving the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) clashing with air passengers as a three-year-old girl screams as she’s patted down, “Stop touching me!”

Though the video seems to have made a surge on the internet today, it was actually captured on cell phone video by a local news reporter in 2008. The young girl seen being patted down (not with the back of an agent’s hand, mind you) is the reporter’s daughter:

Like I said, while the video is troubling, it’s a little dated.  Regardless, the protection of children like the reporter’s daughter is one key factor driving public objections to the TSA’s new security screening procedures. Is it appropriate for young children’s near-naked images to be captured by a “scatterback” full-body scan? Or if a parent refuses to subject their children to the scan, is it really okay for an adult stranger to put their hands on children?

On top of all of this, an image captured in the Indianapolis International Airport suggests that while some parents are taking these new invasive procedures, some security professionals are getting a laugh out of it. Via Gizmodo:

    Sorry I know this will be upsetting to some…But we the United States had one clear choice to make on and after 9/11 . To destroy the religion and people of Islam..Not all bad ??? …Well if they were given one clear message that when you see our armies prepare to die for you beliefs or be destroyed…Wave a white flag or die..That;s it ….plan and simple..With direction ..A military invasion that would have destroyed every ARAB country in the middle east and the millions that would have stepped forward to defend.THEIR RELIGON. Destroyed every being of this evil ..It would have ended with a new American monument ..The Marines smashing the rock in Mecca,…But we thought it a better policy to give up our freedoms in small parcels …cover the expansion of a global economy.and go out and shop…And today we are loosing on all fronts. And one day the decision will have to be made. And those that put a …religious … Christian ..jewish or other …can’t do that …Well when the freedom is gone what will be left…This country had the moral high ground 9/11 …Defeat your enemy then worry if they are still breathing…Until then get used to the hand getting closer and closer to your private parts…..

    Any sane parent would never touch their child, nor let anyone touch their child. They teach their children to never allow anyone to touch them, but we are supposed to tell them that strangers from the government are OK to touch you? Are you ready to put a stop to this?

      I’m with you, we finally start making progress helping kids understand that it’s NOT ok for people to touch them and now this?!? Call me overprotective, but anyone, ANYONE, who attempts to touch my child better be prepared to pull back a stump.

    TSA does what this gov’t tells them to do. This gov’t wants to hurt the economy. This gov’t is nudging us. The airlines are being sacrificed to help destroy tourism, more jobs, etc.

    I did not realize until today that the scans showed more than what is seen on the news. I did not know what a body search was. Good lord you have to be nuts to get on a plane. With all the stories i have heard about people being “trapped” for hours at a time with toilets over flowing and no food water etc. and now this? And you pay for the fun?

      Not to pick a nit, but TSA and most of the intrusive idiotic screen procedures were instituted under Bush’s watch. Many of us were yelling then, that it would morph into this kind of thing in time. The blame, I’m saying, belongs to both the former and current resident of the White House. You cannot put a framework in place that is ripe for abuse and then be surprised that it is used to abuse people. When considering future calls for “do something!” to the government, think long and hard about the notion that whatever the government does, will also be used by the opposition party once they assume power.       Back 2008, BO had this to say on the campaign trail:
      “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

      I remember the speculation that BO was going to start some kind of Hitler Jugent but now I‘m wondering if he didn’t mean the TSA. They were already in place, already funded, all they needed was a nudge from ‘The Won’.

      It‘s time to get rid of the TSA and allow airlines to provide they’re own security. In the open market this would be better run and they would probably use profiling. And it wouldn’t cost the taxpayer anything except maybe a higher priced ticket.

    This past summer, my family and I drove to Florida, in no small part because how unpleasant it is to fly these days. Now with the naked scanner humiliations, the next and only flight I’ll be taking is the one to leave the U.S. Permanently.

      It doesn’t matter where you go, they are doing the same everywhere. I will not fly, plain and simple. It is getting worse and worse. How for the record, I don’t believe that TSA agents are evil, the agents themselves. It is the policies and proceedures they are trained and mandated to do and uphold are what is evil. You can vilify a agent but that is not where the problem lies. It is this whole idea that regular people who do not fit the profile of a dangerous person have to be subjected to all this including children for the sake of the goverment not profiling. What bothers me is that the TSA will on purpose let through a person who fits the profile of a dangerous person just to prove that they are not profiling. There is no commonsense applied to the whole notion of security. Now if the TSA did profile and made it clear that they were profiling then maybe those who would fit into the profile would work harder to stop the dangerous people and end this nightmare. We have open pandora’s box with this airport security and it was opened long before 9/11. I remember flying out of Chicago with some christmas gifts for family that were all wrapped very nicely. They could have gone through the Xray machine fine, however I was made to unwrap all of them and show what was inside. Then I was patted down and finally let on my way. This was beginning before 9/11 and I am sure 9/11 was the opportunity to institute it as future policy everywhere with the excuse that we have given up our civil right that are protected under the consitiution if we want to fly. If don’t want to fly if it means giving up my rights. I won’t sell my rights for a plane ticket to anywhere.

    The more I hear about this the more it ****** me off. Got a 13 year old or older son or daughter? He/she better go through the scanner – or else. You wife/mother flying this holiday season? She better go through the scanner – or else. Are you a vet, retired cop, doctor, nurse, mayor, ditch digger, average American? You’d better go through the scanner – or else.

    Contact your elected reps and then TSA. Let them know that you support this new policy – or not.

Now please, with the Obama Administration’s desire to drop “Don’t ask, don’t tell” in the military, how can we be sure that some of those “same-gender” types at TSA aren’t H O M O S E X U A L ? Is the amount of time you spend staring at your computer screen, by any measure, healthy or normal? Obviously, you are obsessed with the Blaze.       As for the story….well I‘d just say it’s another one of the many reasons NOT to fly these days…of course it’s obvious that the harassement and attempts to degrade passengers by the TSA stormtroopers is just another form of pressure wielded against the public…and an attempt by the government to break the airlines!

      I would like a life, but some people actually sacrifice part of there life now, like me who is doing two majors at the same time and I am also saving up news articles for my master thesis (both of them) and for my discertation when it comes time for that to happen. If more people would sacrifice a little of there time they wouldn’t end up on tv bashing wal mart complaining that they only make 11 dollars an hour when they are 40. Also we don’t want to be part of the government, we want to work for our money. So we sacrifice our time going to school, doing homework, and we take a little break to watch the news.
      Also we like to keep inform on what is going on. So you stupid liberals wont come behind us and to quote that skit from SNL….to have sex with us.

      Where are all of the child psychologists that have treated children for trauma? Why isn’t somebody that has a damned, degree, speaking up! What is wrong with the professionals in this country? While America has been divided over politacal parties that don’t even exist; the pervert patrol in our government moved in and took over!
      There is also the implication and insult to the parent, that she has hidden some explosive device on her child, so she and her family can commit suicide, with the benefit of bringing a whole plane full of others along with them…duh?
      We are waaaay overdue, to take back our country and have someone normal run for president that has no money, to buy off secrets. Maybe someone that has actually worked, and been productive!
      Somebody that knows what it feels like to be without; or live paycheck to paycheck; and not in this for the power and abuse of others!

      And you’re here why? Seems to me if you worried a little more about your time, and worried less about other peoples time, you might learn something. These people elect to fly to their destination and if you don’t think that a terrorist will slip a bomb in a babies blanket or diaper then you could be dead wrong. While I don’t like it at all, I have chosen alternate methods of transportation. Seems like there are some other people that should do the same.

      I think I am going to have to stick up for BROKER0101. If it’s the same person, I recall this user posting some pretty good comments in past stories. He does bring out the point that many of the same users do regularly post at the beginning of stories. I really don’t care. I’d say, spread your opinion as much as you can.       Funny how BROKER is usually one of the first posting … I hop on and see what is up a few times a day and have been called out by name by this jerk. BROKER heal thy self. If you don’t like THE BLAZE then go away.

      As for the TSA … they need to start hiring some people who actually have brain waves and start profiling protential terrorists and stop wasting time accosting the rest of us and our CHILDREN!.

      While reading your comment, I noticed two problems with it. First, you use a generalization to classify all people who leave comments on this website without taking into consideration all the different types of people who might leave comments on this website. You are an example of someone who does not fit the mold you established in your comment. Are we to assume them that you have joined the ranks by leaving an irrelevant comment on an article? Second, you make it sound as if you think (and the content of this article) is something to ignore. Well, while this information may not bother you, I agree with many parents who are terrified of having their children patted down that way. I do not have children, but I would be mortified to see my child touched that way all in the name of security. What makes matters worse is the tasteless humor regarding the situation as pointed out in this story.

      Well, since this is the America I served in the military for til after the end of the Cold War, I can still say/do what I like as long as I don’t break the laws or the Constitution. Sounds to me if you have problems with people on the Blaze, solve it by taking your own advice, or keeping your opinions to yourself, and spare everyone including yourself. If you want to let your country go into the backward spiral of socialism for your children and grandchildren to suffer through, at least don’t stab others in back who care more about others than for themselves.

      I’m posting this again…..
      The American people need to grow a backbone, quit walking around with blinders on and start calling and yelling at their representatives. We need to jump up and down, yell and scream, fight and vote and make sure that things are changed or SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR SHEEP LIKE BEHAVIOR. When someone can legally reach down and touch your child inappropriately and send you to jail if you complain too loudly, is this freedom? Is this the America that we were brought up to love and fight for? Is this what that soldier, sailor or marine that you once knew who died for our country and fought to protect our rights deserves in return? When someone can legally reach down and touch your wife in front of you, and you can say nothing, does this emasculate you? Does it make you feel like less of a man when they reach down and fondle your private areas and you can’t say anything about it? Does it kind of remind of you of being an inmate, where some trashy guy that’s bigger than you can molest you and get away with it? Is this freedom? Is this the nation that you once knew? Can we say that this was put into action because of terrorist threats and that the “government” is “protecting” us? Give me a flipping break! This is the first little part of something that could be much bigger. If we are going to stand there and actually allow anyone to treat us in this manner, to touch our children, our grandparents, our handicapped, our wives our husbands, please………….what are we thinking. Go call your senators…..and CANCEL your airline tickets. Find another mode of travel until the “government” who are supposed to be working “FOR” us, changes the system to accommodate us in a respectful way. Thank you
