Parental Outrage Forces Houston School To Drop Pro-Obama Chant

The people have spoken in Houston and forced a school to change a its decision to use an over-the-top poem praising President Obama.

Just last week The Blaze brought you the story of Tipps Elementary School in Houston that sent kindergarteners home with an assignment to learn a poem that lavished praises on the president as part of Black History Month.

Here’s a sample of the actual lyrics of the poem (spelling errors belong to the school district, not The Blaze):

Who really likes to play basketball?

Every Call, Basketball

An outraged parent sent a copy of the poem/song, and the memo attached to it, to syndicated talk show host Joe Pagliarulo. Pags (as he is known to his listeners) broadcast the story on the radio last week and generated considerable interest — and anger — from parents and citizens whose tax dollars fund the Tipps Elementary School.

The school’s principal did not respond directly to inquiries from The Blaze or Pagliarulo, but progress has been reported.

Yesterday we received a copy of a letter sent to parents from the kindergarten teacher, Debra Thornton.

Parental Outrage Forces School To Drop Obama Worship Song

The note read:

Dear Parent/Guardian of Kindergarten students,

Although you have indicated that your child will not be participating in the Black History program, I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify some misinformation you have received.

Last week, I sent our Kindergarten team’s preliminary selection for the Black History Month program to you. I did not include details other than the poem. I also inadvertently included an internal cover note intended for teachers. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Since you received this preliminary selection, Ms. Reid has had the chance to review all the performance selections by all grade levels. Those kindergarten students with parent permission to participate will be doing a recitation of a selection from the book by Michelle Cook, Our Children Can Soar, A Celebration of Rosa, Barack, and the Pioneers of Change, instead of the preliminary selection that was sent to you.

Ms. Thorton’s note claims that this poem/song was a preliminary choice. However, the note originally sent to teachers was quite clear:

Attached is a chant about President Barack Obama.  All Kindergarteners will be required to learn the chant for the Black History program. 

Nothing in the original memo mentioned that this was a preliminary selection. And the note also states that all kindergarteners will be required to learn it, not just those participating in the program.

Kelly Durham, the district’s assistant superintendent for communications, defended the song during a telephone interview with The Blaze last week, calling it “an instructional activity to honor Black History Month.” The kindergartners were supposed to perform it during an evening school program.

Not anymore, apparently.

      sounds to me like they need a new school board or better yet charter schools. this is nothing but indoctrination of kids to be good little liberals. this should outrage every parent they are making your kids stupid so they can control them. you need to teach them that the government is not the master of anyone but the servant to us all. politicians need to find themselves in jail real soon. we need to show them just who’s really in charge. If they cant follow the constitution they need to be jailed. this is the threat politicians need to work under. states need to bring politicians up on charges and let them defend their violations of our rights and the law our founders set down for them to follow.

      We were once called the “Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave” – Now we live in an America were Government can tell our kids to eat Chicken Nuggets instead of the Lunch her loving mom made for her. We live in an America were the Government can tell our Churches what to teach and who to hire.

      What Government can give, it can take away. Man might let you down at times – but God word is true!

      Everyone has a choice on Election Day to send a clear message to get Government out of our lives and let the free market work. Don’t vote for what you think your going to get from Government – vote to limit Government in our Lives, if anything do it for our kids future.

      I know most on the Blaze would agree – however – I am really concerned about this new group of voters the Government just created – Birth Control Moms. I am concerned that these B/C moms will vote for Obama just so they can save $30 a month by passing the cost of their BC on to the Government – What Government can give – Government can take away.

      Our kids future rides on our decision in Nov 2012. Don’t be the one to sell our America because you can save $30 a month.

      What is even scarier is how many times is this happening and no one is saying any thing? I keep remembering how H itler Youth were indoctrinated the same way. Chants to the leader.     last year my gs school put on a play about how wonderful the Black panthers were oh did I get mad, it was a black teacher & she took offense to a parent being upset & said they did not know anything about them the kids were forced to watch the stupid play

      What would that teacher have said if “she” would have been required to put on a play about the
      KluKluxKlan ? Would she have subjected her child to watch it ? I really hope there was a segment
      in her play about the Black Panthers in front of the voting poll in Philadelphia PA who were intimidating voters with the billy clubs the Panthers were carrying. Why do they give us such good

    This is so incredibly outrageous ! Who wrote this poem/chant to begin with? Barack O. is a pioneer of change? i think i’m gonna hurl. More like a pioneer of disaster.This guy has done nothing other then ride the affirmative action train all the way to the White House where he continues to spend us into oblivion and divide the country with class warfare rhetoric. This kind of propaganda assaulting young minds is right out of red china. Some schools in this country are so inept students can barely read and add, but it was going to be mandatory to memorize this pile of horse s&%t? Thank heavens some of these parents were paying attention.

      I know that there are average, good or very good teachers. And I know we cannot brush every teacher with the same comb.

      But boy o boy. There are sure some fruitcakes with nuts among them.

      It is quite something, how the unions have directed every body’s thinking when it comes to teachers. They have become holier then thou. We are to worship the ground they walk on. And we better don’t say anything about it either. After all, we are just parents and cannot know what is good for OUR children.

      Teachers are no wiser or smarter or better people then everybody else. They can be good parents or bad parents. However, they use bad parents for an excuse to get more control over OUR children.

      What then shall we do with teachers who have sex and even have children with students. Or teachers who indoctrinate our children instead of teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic.

      I think it is time that parents are given information about teachers. How about on their past, political views, religious affiliation, their attitude to sexuality, etc. I think we have the right to know those things. After all we entrust OUR children to them. We need to know much more about teachers so we can make a better judgement about whom we allow to teach OUR children.

      This is how it is done in communist countries. And a majority of teachers and especially unions are on the left.

      If I had a kid in that school I’d send them back with a note for the teacher telling him/her that my kid would not be learning this poem and in fact is, and will continue to be, educated at home about how Obama is a usurping domestic enemy of the Untied States.

I am more amazed at the surprise people have over the severe degradation of the level of actual education that is taking place, or more accurately, not taking place.     As a public school teacher, I see this constantly. Everything is about Social Justice, the environment, and multiculturalism. This indoctrination is incredible. Staff members wear Obama t-shirts and freely talk about how horrible America is. God help us.

    The indoctrination of America’s children is in full swing. We need to put a stop to it every time it is identified if we are to keep our freedoms. I have no problem with children learning about Rosa Parks and Dr. King, but no current leader should be held up like this. It is just too dangerous.

If this is just part of your teaching and has no agenda other than recognizing the President of the United States during Black History Month – if this has no ideology behind it at all then may we see the soaring songs to George W. Bush for President’s day or for any of your programs? I am positive there were none.

    Is this an actual photocopy of the original letter? The original letter sent to parents?

    If YOU chose not to have your kids participate in the Black History Month Celebrations are they then labeled? Does this indicate a visit from your local DHS/Social Services Rep?
