Parents Using Their Kids as Little Wall Street Occupiers

A group known as “Parents for Occupy Wall Street” organized a “kiddie” sleepover in Zuccotti Park this weekend, which brought young children into a highly politicized situation with serious safety concerns.
The organizer of the Occupy Parents’ group, Kirby Desmarais, told Mother Jones magazine that “the idea is to let parents have a voice in Occupy Wall Street, because normally they cannot be here and also be at home taking care of their families.”
Apparently some 68 families decided they were up for “braving chaos” and “endured cranks and street sweepers.”
But many people are asking question about this wisdom of bringing young children to spend the night in Zuccotti Park or attend protests.
There have been thefts at Zuccotti Park, its been described as a rat-infested health hazard, and protestors relieved themselves in public and engaged in sex acts under tarps.
Zuccotti Park is clearly not a suitable environment for a child to spend the night. Some would question if it’s even really safe for adults.
Still, children were present this weekend. CNN caught up with some of the “Parents for Occupy Wall Street” who explained their group and described how the night went:
Not all children are sleeping over, however. Instead, children have been popping up at many of the Occupy protests around New York during the day. Either way, and regardless of one’s politics, there is something deeply unsettling about seeing a nine or ten-year-old girl yelling “Banks got bailed out we got sold out” and “no justice, no peace” (which I have personally witnessed).
Given the widespread claims of “police brutality” made by the Occupiers, and the precarious safety situation presented by any large crowd, bringing children into these situations would seem to represent a safety hazard.
That parents would subject their children to such circumstances is baffling, but perhaps is a testament to the fervor (and impaired judgment) of many of the protesters.

You can see youtube videos of this crazy groups marching along side OWS groups across the US. And as far as this being a Global protest, you may be right. All around the globe many Muslim countries are overthrowing their dictators ( they may have not been the best leaders, but what the people want to put in is far worse- they evidently have not learned anything either) in turn for a more oppressive totalitarian regime to put in power. If this is what you are fighting for then go right ahead, but the rest of us will sit back and wonder why you would support a movement that the Communist Party USA and the American Nazi Party do too. It would be embarrassing if a pic with you in it made it to one of these pages as they show pics of the OWS marches and camp. Scary stuff to be affiliated with.

The differences are astronomical and I personally take pride in the way that the TEA party participants handled themselves AND the children. Do not try to compare the two. They are different as night and day (Also we had a purpose that we ALL agreed upon, bet you cannot find that at one of the Occupy protests) and canot be compared!

Obama LOVES going behind the backs of the congress and using executive order to get what he wants because he knows his crap will never pass. Even democrats are voting down his “jobs” bill. What he is doing is unconstitutional. Him going behind the backs of congress to go into Libya was unconstitutional. Obamacare ( FORCING people to buy anything the govt says you must) is unconstitutional. Obama does not like the constitution and follows his own set of rules. I wouldn’t like ANY president that does that.

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 8:15pmYou’re right. It’s different. OWS is in it for the long run. Dedicated. And by consistently being there AND because the movement is so big the it will inevitably attract some bad people. Contrast that with the Tea Party, a bunch of dumb bigots who decided to turn off Nascar and get their giant a55es off of the couch for one day to go to a rally. This is a REAL movement. Not an after church tea baggie gathering. It’s global. Bad examples will abound.

The “enlightened” say what kind of sicko raises kids and fills their heads with fantasy and bigotry and mush. We need to get those kids out of the house.
It amazes me that the liberty loving people are the ones who are quick to use the government to go in and extract kids from families and make the rest of us pay for it. Hypocrisy indeed.

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 3:30pmRothbardian_in_the_Cleve that is not the same argument at all. You are speaking in the terms of religion and ideals; how is that the same as the PHYSICAL well being of a child?
Report Post »Rothbardian_in_the_Cleve
Posted on October 24, 2011 at 4:17pmIt is the same. Why? Because those are both relative judgments. They are subjective views of risk by people with objective points of view. The real argument is whether the State should be able to swoop in and take children from families without a burden of proof and that the families would then have to provide proof that they are good parents. All of this because some busy body Mrs. Cravitz decided to drop a dime on a someone doing something she didn’t agree with. It is an Orwellian existence and incongruent with a constitutional republic.

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 2:46pmSimply a variation on the theme most used by their latest allies the Islamo-fascists. Hiding among children is one of their standard tactics. With children in their midst’s the political powers of NYC would not dare send the police to disburse them even if they had the political will or inclination to do so for fear of “collateral damage”. If one child got a skinned knee from such an action the lame stream media would howl bloody murder while failing to report that he child was placed in danger by an OWS member, ostensibly their parent. The ongoing cowardice of these types is universal.

At the Forum Shoot, the guy who was teaching the carbine course the next day was talking about what Blackwater guys had encountered in New Orleans and surrounding areas during Katrina. He said they had a check point set up where they were giving water and supplies out to people. One day this old man walks up asking for “.45″. This threw the people off because no one asked for ammo prior to this point. He told them if he didn’t get ammo he was certain his wife and he were going to die. This is when further inquiry revealed that people, “zombies”, had been going from house to house looting for items and killing people if they were still inside. Well this band of thieves had come across the wrong house and the first day five showed up, two made it home. The next day he said ten showed up, about five made it home. This old man was wracking up a body count while defending his home. The next day about ten more showed up and about five made it back. He said when they investigated his house and his property there were bodies all over the place and the man was out of .45 ammo. This never made the news and you will never read about it.
The instructor who was telling us this reminded us that all that happened during Katrina was they added water and people lost their minds. Their was cannibalism in New Orleans yall, and if t

I’m okay with that up until the point where they feel that I should have to pay for it. You wanna smoke weed all day fine by me. (Pot shouldn’t be illegal in my opinion.) You wanna sleep in a tent? Fine. You wanna screw 20 people a day? Fine.
I think that the moral outrage by the right surrounding this group of people completely takes away from having an intellectual debate about what they are saying. They are like 80% wrong on things. However, they have a few points that are valid. By focusing on the dirty hippie aspect of this you create a black/white us/them win/lose scenario that results in what?…Do you have to stick up for wall street bailouts and hedge fund managers with political connections? It makes no sense.
The point of freedom and liberty is that if you really believe in it you can look past the moral choices that people make in their lives that don’t affect you (Yes, the welfare state needs to end entirely and people should live with their choices) so that you can argue the real philosophical issue of the role of government, liberty, law, etc. When you take a stand that is “get ‘em” how long until that sentiment is directed at you or at Tea Party rallies or church services? It’s a waaay slippery slope.

Ah there it is. I was waiting for some neo-con venom. Can’t argue on topics so just resort to namecalling and vitriol.
Yes, I wish my side had their resolve. We fought a revolution for the Intolerable Acts that pale in comparison to the totalitarianism we face today. Our constitution is a pipe dream and in its place is a leviathan that frankly the right is either A) too lazy to roll back or B) happy to use for its own purposes when in power. Our side at one time had the Sons of Liberty. We broke “laws” because we believed they were wrong. We stood up to tyranny. We “hung together because surely we’d hang separately”.
Now, the “right” has become the lapdogs of tyranny. They decry the abuses of the King but are the first to lash out at anyone who defies his decree.

Not sure where I wasn’t clear before, but I think we agree. You shouldn’t have to pay for anyone else nor should you be responsible for their choices. Period. The premise of libertarianism is that people have to be responsible for the choices they make…good or bad and that no man should have to live/toil for the benefit of another. That’s it. The state exists to protect my rights. I subscribe to a minarchist system in which the government doesn’t pick winners and losers. We call our system capitalism and it is no such thing….not even close. In a nutshell, you do you and I’ll do me. Pretty good system IMHO.
