‘Partisan Three-Ring Circus’: Obama Shows Frustration During National Television Address

President Obama scolded Republicans and specifically House Speaker John Boehner in his nationwide television address Monday night. He said House Speaker John Boehner’s recent proposal would only stall the decision another six months and would not be a complete solution to the problem.

Obama called the debate a “partisan three-ring circus” and was openly frustrated with resistance from the opposition. “The American people may have voted for divided government, but they didn’t vote for a dysfunctional government,” the president said.

The Guardian:

With only a week left until the August 2 deadline that could see the US default for the first time in its history, Obama expressed dismay over the stand-off in Washington.

“It is a dangerous game we’ve never played before, and we can’t afford to play it now. Not when the jobs and livelihoods of so many families are at stake. We can‘t allow the American people to become collateral damage to Washington’s political warfare,” the president said.

Obama accused the Republicans of using the raising of the debt ceiling, which he said was normally routine, as a lever to force the Democrats to agree to deep spending cuts that would hit the poorest in society while leaving the wealthiest unscathed.

He rejected a Republican proposal stop-gap deal, saying it would only mean the Republicans returning again next year to use the same tactics to seek more cutbacks.

House Speaker John Boehner was close by and spoke closely after the president. He accused the president of creating a ‘crisis atmosphere’ to hype up the issue and of not really wanting to approach the problem in a truly balanced way. “The president has often said we need a `balanced’ approach, which in Washington means we spend more, you pay more,” he said.

The public appearance on prime-time television did little to quell the fears of Americans and international onlookers or suggest the debate was coming to a compromise. Without a signed piece of legislation on the issue by August 2, the country will not be able to pay its bills and could push America to an unprecedented default.

    I disagree completely with this headline. No way does obama show ‘frustration’ during his talk. Maybe thru rhetoric..BUT look at him. Look a little more closely! He is laughing thru the whole thing. He is tickled pink about this whole thing. Don’t believe me? Stop the video a few times. HE IS LAUGHING AT THIS WHOLE SITUATION. He is enjoying this!

Taking from the rich and giving to the poor is only moral to a certain extent, and we’re way past moral. I’m poor. My wife and I are going to make about 36K this year, the lowest I’ve made in 30 years. Even I think robbing the rich any further is immoral. Plus, I want my kids to be able to get a decent paying job. I didn’t love Bush. I won‘t vote for Jeb Bush because he’s a Bush.       Obama and his socialist and Marxist friends, mentors and family have groomed him for this moment. Their plan was simple.

      HOPE to CHANGE the country for it’s own sake by digging us deeper in debt and enlarging the government through entitlement programs. Thus it collapses the economy and they all blame it on Bush. Typical Left wing plan. Hell, they wrote it and there not even trying to hide it. The only reason more people don’t know about it is because the left, has for the last 50+ years, infiltrated the Media and the educational system. If we had maintained a principled Bible based learning curriculum in our schools as the founders suggested (don’t go nuts conservative atheists many founders suggested this) and kept far left loons away from us and our parents we wouldn’t be in this mess. Redistribution of wealth is a major tenant in a socialist society. God becomes the state. Socialism has NEVER prospered EVER!

      He’s had almost 3 years to fix this….everyone knew it was coming, and he has spent us into oblivion. It’s his plan. The people won‘t want what he’s selling unless our economy collapses and it’s either him or anarchy. If we default, it’s because he refuses to prioritize what gets paid. He is like a family who loses one paying spouse’s job and yet refuses to lower the standard of living. We live in Texas now, but a few years back, we lived in the Illinois side of St. Louis. My husband had a better paying job so we had a tool fund, a clown fund (I was a professional clown), a fund for this and that. When we moved here, we had to stop all that because we had less money. If I had just asked my credit card company to raise my limit because I didn’t want to lose all that, I’d be put in jail.

Let‘s get one thing straight and that’s that we did have a surplus (the gov’t took in more money than it spent) therefore had a balanced budget. Clinton cut spending more than any other president in our nations history and for that he has my respect.

      Where did you learn that anyone has a right to any other persons property. The way to fix the problem for the poverty stricken is through education and a good job. This robin hood business is crap. Vocational schools and PERSONAL initiative and responsibility solves the issue for most of the poor.       Obama says that the people who benefit most from the system should pay a little more, well I agree. A person who has been on welfare for say, 1 year plus and food stamps, contributes nothing to the system, and gets 100 % back out. I think that 100% is the best possible benefit from the system. A millionaire that makes 10 million, still has to pay about 35% back. that means that their benefit is 65%. I know Rham’s kids probably learned this in private school, but the rest of the kids in Chicago won’t understand this, but a 65% return from the system is not as good as a 100% return. (Unless you are the CEO of GE, you know, Obama’s buddy, then your benefit is 100%).

      Just one question. Where was the “comprimise” when this guy took office with the democrats controlling both houses of congress? Reid and Pelosi were spending like drunken sailors and Obama signed off on everything while the Republicans could not stop anything. Where was the comprimise during the Obamacare deal? Where were the “open” discussions on TV that were promised? Or the 48 hours to review the bill before a vote? The dems rammed through everything they possibly could when the had all the power, and now that they lost the House, noooow it’s time to “comprimise”.       I dont’ know who his true advisers are…but we need to find out and take a a stance with these people.     To the 49% of American tax payers who take as much or more then they pay it taxes, this sounds great! Yes, only ask those who do more to pay more! When we can vote ourselves money from others we will all fail!

      Those that work, but don’t pay any taxes, plus get free benefits from the government (welfare, food stamps, earned income credit, etc) and get all their taxes back at tax time, shouldn’t be allowed to vote. No taxation without representation, and the 14th amendment said that Indians who weren‘t taxed didn’t get to vote. I know we changed that and let Indians vote (as we should), but if you don’t have a stake in this government, you shouldn’t get to vote.

    Mr. Responsible works all day, pays his taxes, buys his family food and shelter clothes and other stuff. He, being responsible does all this carefully so as to not go over his budget.

    The government does not do as Mr. Responsible does, no, they spend his tax money on anything and everything to the point of 15 trillion dollars in debt.       All I hear is “we need to balance the budget” but we haven’t had a budget for 800+ days. Can you run your house without a budget..for years!! Why don‘t they give us a list of everything the gov’t spends money on and “we the people” will vote & decide what things will be eliminated. You know there’s a shitload of waste..probably WAY more than we can even imagine. Like the study of shrimp on a treadmill–give me a break!! How many peoples SS could we pay out of that money ?       As Obama becomes more unable to sell his version of America, is when the FED lowers the economic bomb. As much as I dislike Obama, I am worried that he just might be our last President because I am quite sure that the Globalists have a back up plan for when he fails.       Can’t we call for impeachment on grounds of mental instability? I was flabbergasted that he is so out of touch with the American people. What a complete, total idiot. Obama got one thing right – the entire world IS watching and wondering how such an incompetent and unstable man became president of the greatest nation on earth. God help us all!

    How about this…. QUIT SPENDING MONEY, We’re BROKE! Where is your plan Mr. Teleprompter ? You act as if you’re an innocent observer… you raised the budget 20% and wonder why we have a debt problem? We don’t have a Revenue problem, we have a spending problem. With the $183 Billion we make this month we can pay our obligations… everything else is up for grabs. The Conservatives can’t compromise with someone who doesn’t have a written plan you incompetent boob! May the best plan win!

      I WILL ASK IT AGAIN…. What is the age range of the REBUBLICAN VOTERS? 45+ They support Cut Cap and Balance. The majority of these voters are the ones currently receiving the benefits that are up for slight cuts and modifications. They are willing to do it. Yeah, Grandma is willing to take less to save the generations yet to come and understand what this is all about. Even those POS kids that have yet to understand what this is about. This POTUS is doing nothing but trying to campaign for 2012.

    The hard truth, either the US federal government quits spending money they don’t have short term and takes the consequences now or the US government does what they have done for 40 years, pushs the over spending down the road and hope they (elected officals) are retired drinking coolaid on a beach in south America when the collapse becomes reality. People, its time our elected officials act in the long term best interests of our nation. Call your elected officials, e-mail them or write them and let them know its time to act responsibly for the future of our nation.

I’ve seen his kind riding around Wal-Mart in the kiddie seat on his mama‘s grocery cart grabbing at every thing he can reach and screaming blood murder because she won’t give it to him. Red faced, snot flying, fist balled up and threatening to puke in the cart. The analogy is Obama is threatening to puke on old people and veterans if he doesn’t get his way.

His reasoning for not supporting the cut, cap and balance proposal is one of the weakest I have heard. Enough with the redistribution of wealth Obummer. Time for you to leave office…high time. Your democratic congress should have passed the budget and taken care of this debt ceiling back when there weren’t any republicans in town if you were serious about it. But youre not, are you?!     Someone tell him he disagrees with Sen. Reid. Reid said that there would not be any new taxes, then the pres comes out tonight and rails against millionaires and billionaires and private jet owners for not paying their fair share. Can some progressive get them to have the same talking points?
