Passengers aboard a Turkish Airlines flight from Oslo, Norway to Istanbul, Turkey thwarted a hijacking by tackling a man who tried to storm the cockpit and claimed he had a bomb.
Just 30 minutes shy of landing in Turkey, the 60 passengers witnessed a man from the back of the plane don a ski mask and whip out a device. He shouted “I have a bomb!” and demanded the Boeing 737-800 return to Oslo, the Daily Mail reports. But passengers weren’t willing to put up with him.
“I was sitting at the front end of the plane and I heard voices at the back of the plane around 30 minutes before we landed,” Lelya Kilic, one of the passengers, told the Daily Mail.
“I saw a fight between passengers and a man with a mask, carrying a device that looked like a radio handset.”
When the aircraft landed in Istanbul, Turkish police entered the plane and found a passenger sitting on the man. He was arrested and the bomb was found to be fake.
The hijacker was identified as 40-year-old Cumar Yasar, a Turkish national from a Kurdish village in the southeastern region of Anatolia.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 12:28pmGreat story. I have to wonder had an American done such a thing in a contrasting environment would he retain his head, while being sat on until authorities arrive. I continue to marvel at the restraint and self regulation of good people who show “just”low drama mercy on their assailant.
If we just trained people to know that if even 1 person has an agenda to keep the plane from landing safely, If no sky Marshal acts within a set time, all bets are off, I also think our planes should have smaller cell like sections that can be locked down at the pilots command, isolating sections of the plane and and threats the the cockpit. If movement through the plane is restricted, isolation is easier.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 11:37amJust another reason we don’t need the TSA groping us down. No plane will ever again be taken over by hijackers. Passengers will always take the bastards out. Everyone knows what we are up against and exactly what to do.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 1:25amExactly You notice that they aren’t trying it on American flights anymore. That’s because we are wide awake now and Americans ( blacks, hispanics, whites, asian, you name it) will put a beat down on them. Hopefully to the point there won’t be any wasteful trial time.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 1:13pmI’m not sure how old you are…maybe younger so you might not know how things were before 9/11? .But you have to understand that prior to 9/11 we all believed the right thing to do was “not be a hero” and risk getting other people hurt. Just sit tight until the negotiations with the hijackers worked out one way or another and likely you will survive. It didn‘t enter anyone’s head that they’d fly the damn thing into a building. We all know now.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 2:55pmyes, we would all know how to deal with it now, but prior to 9/11 hijackers would take over a plane, land in some foreign country- end of story.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 10:04amDizzyinthedark….it’s called a check. That’s why the bomb was fake…they are constantly checking to see if we are turning back into Sheeple. And when they don’t, they back off…if only for a while. We all have to stay vigilant and know the hero we all have in us and not let these nutjobs gain the upper hand. The people who tackled him, instead of cowering in fear, should receive an award equivalent of the Silver Star, for duty the average citizen should not have to perform.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 10:35amThank God for the passangers keeping better watch out than most security agencies. And the vaunted TSA-KGB constantly declares just how safe the flying public is; when every terrorist stopped so far has been by the passangers themselves.

Report Post »1. Jump and restrain the bomber by any means.
2. Ask pilot to descend to 5000 ft, depressurize cabin, and fly over uninhabited land.
3. While six passemgers hold the arms, legs, and hands of the bomber, open door and throw the bomber out.

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 5:00pmApparently, TSA has a branch in Turkey, because as usual, it’s the passengers who have to do the heavy lifiting, while the TSA has never found a threat. Only Israel would have caught the clown before boarding. Big Sis Janet doesn’t like the Isreali methods because her TSA might have to profile, and actually notice a young, rag head male of Middle Eastern or Northern African descent, and shake him/her down before boarding.
