Passwords Taken: Hackers Hit FBI Partner Organization

LONDON (AP) — Nearly 180 passwords belonging to members of an Atlanta-based FBI partner organization have been stolen and leaked to the Internet, the group confirmed Sunday.

The logins belonged to members of the local chapter of InfraGard, a public-private partnership devoted to sharing information about threats to U.S. physical and Internet infrastructure, the chapter’s president told The Associated Press.

“Someone did compromise the website,” InfraGard Atlanta Members Alliance President Paul Farley said in a brief email exchange. “We do not at this time know how the attack occurred or the method used to reveal the passwords.”

Copies of the passwords — which appear to include users from the U.S. Army, cybersecurity organizations and major communications companies — were posted to the Internet by online hacking collective Lulz Security, which has claimed credit for a string of attacks in the past week.

In a statement, Lulz Security also claimed to have used one of the passwords to steal nearly 1,000 work and personal emails from the chief executive of Wilmington, Delaware-based Unveillance LLC.

Lulz Security claimed it was acting in response to a recent report that the Pentagon was considering whether to classify some cyberattacks as acts of war.

The FBI said Sunday that it was aware of the incident and that steps were being taken to mitigate the damage. Farley said InfraGard’s website had been taken down and that members had been advised to change their passwords and beware of further attacks.

Farley added that his group — a volunteer organization — had had no previous involvement with Lulz Security, which describes itself as a collective of hackers who attack weakly-protected websites for fun. Lulz is a reference to Internetspeak for “laugh out loud.”

The collective appears to have had a busy week.

Earlier Sunday, Nintendo said it had been targeted in a recent online data attack claimed by Lulz Security. Nintendo said no personal or company information was lost.

On Thursday, Lulz Security boasted of a major breach which saw as many as tens of thousands of Sony users’ details posted to the Internet.

The group has also claimed credit for defacing the PBS website after the public television broadcaster aired a documentary seen as critical of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Emails and other messages seeking comment from the group over the past few days have gone unanswered, although it maintains an active presence on microblogging site Twitter, where it taunts its opponents and promises more hacks.

As a member of Infraguard and a computer security personal for the military, I think it is time we switch tactics and begin an offensive approach to this vs our defensive measures which seem not to work. This is getting ridiculous.

ObaMao provided a no-bid government contract to GENERAL DYNAMICS……a company that advertised/solicited HACKERS = “Hackers – Come work for the government. No questions asked. Come work for the good guys.”

The father….of unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers…. is on the board of General Dynamics.

“sharing information about threats to U.S. physical and Internet infrastructure”

They certainly were! How embarrasing for this organization.
It must have been a Weiner pic with malicous embedded code. Kinda like an STD virus. Never trust a Weiner. It will get you in deep trouble every time. Some men carry their brains in their Weiner too.

Poor Weiner….he will NEVER live this down.

Net neutrality rearing it’s ugly head again just when election cycle things are heating up. Censoring what we say and how much info we actually get will be a necessary curtailing tool for the O guy and his minions. I am specifically referring to his atty who has stepped up to the plate for the next batch of intimidation to news stations, remember Ayers stories shot down?

The hacker is most likely another government employee. If so there will be a large support group that will see that he is taken care of. No interigations or such inhumane treatment. I think they used to shoot traitors if I remember correctly. Lotus.

Maybe it is time we treated the hackers like the criminals they are…long sentences with a friendly cellmate or a wound on breaking and entering. A bounty on specific hackers might just do the trick as they will spend most of their time looking over their shoulders.

The one thing concerning the hacking of Mr Weiner (highly illegal and needs to be stopped and tried if the offenders are caught) is this:

Why is there no commentary from the Oscar Meyers company concerning damage to the name of their products, the Oscar Meyer Weiner, over this matter?

Note, sarcasm is intentional and not directed at anyone…the hackers need to be investigated and if caught, brought to court for a fair trial and if found guilty, sentenced accordingly.

So the hackers are at it once again?

And this week, China claims We launched a cyber attack against them.

A hackers group has met to discuss the use of hacking on global warming.

And now this again on yet another place.

More pressure, pressure, pressure from all over until everything comes down. And yet one more use of ‘never neglect a emergency’ for the admin to crack down via net neutrality if they choose to do so.

Instead of enforcing net neutrality, this should just be a lesson to safeguard what you do put on the Net. This site was foolish not to protect it more carefully. However, it is not a reason for the government to come down hard on the rest of us.

I don’t understand how the feds would have a legal right to control access to the Net anyway. The Net does not belong to them or anyone else for that matter. Seems like they would be overstepping their bounds…..once again by this admin.
