Pastor Dennis Terry
Pastor Dennis Terry of Greenwell Springs Baptist Church in Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, is facing criticism after a fiery sermon he gave while introducing Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum at his church on Sunday. In his speech, which Tripped Media called “disturbing,” Terry talked about America’s spiritual origins, abortion, gay marriage and public prayer, among other subjects.
“This nation was founded as a Christian nation…there’s only one God and his name is Jesus,” Terry said. ”I‘m tired of people telling me that I can’t say those words.”
After discussing America’s Christian roots, Terry continued, sparking controversy by seeming to tell those who disagree with these sentiments to “get out.”
“If you don‘t love America and you don’t like the way we do things, I’ve got one thing to say — Get out!,” he proclaimed. “We don’t worship Buddha. I said we don’t worship Buddha. We don’t worship Mohammed. We don’t worship Allah. We worship God. We worship God’s son Jesus Christ.”
It is somewhat unclear to determine who the “we” is, although based on the context, Terry seems to be referring to the American public. Statistically, the majority of the nation does, indeed, worship (or at least claim to align with) Jesus Christ. But, very clearly, there are substantial portions of the nation that do worship Buddha, Mohammed, Allah and other deities (or none at all for that matter).
In 2007, the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life found that 78.4 percent of Americans identify as Christians of some sort. An additional 4.7 is classified as “other” (Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu) and 16.1 percent is “unaffiliated” (atheists and other unaffiliated non-believers).

Pastor Terry praying over Rick Santorum
Of course, to be fair to Terry, it’s important to note that he may have been exaggerating for effect and to reiterate his point that attacks on faith and Christianity shouldn’t be tolerated.
The pastor went on to address cultural issues, saying that the ”church needs to be the conscience of our nation.”
“As long as they continue to kill little babies in our mother’s womb, somebody has to take a stand and say it’s not right,” Terry continued. “As long as sexual perversion is becoming normalized, somebody needs to stand up and say, ‘God forgive us, God have mercy upon us.’”
Following these comments, Terry went on to address “revival” in America and the role that Christianity should play in it.
“I believe that Christians in America are the key to revival. I believe that Christians in America is the key to the economy turning around. I believe that Christians in America is the key to the jobless rate continue to go down. I believe it’s a spiritual thing,” he said. “If we’ll put God back in America, put God back in our pulpits. Put God back in our homes and our statehouse — and then in Washington, D.C. — then we can have revival in America…and mighty things will happen for this country.”
This is how Right Wing Watch, a blog that pinpoints conservative “intolerance” described the speech:
Greenwell Springs Baptist Church pastor Dennis Terry introduced presidential candidate Rick Santorum and Family Research Council president Tony Perkins tonight in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a rousing speech railing against liberals and non-Christians and condemning abortion rights, “sexual perversion,” same-sex marriage and secular government. Terry said that America “was founded as a Christian nation” and those that disagree with him should “get out! We don’t worship Buddha, we don’t worship Mohammad, we don’t worship Allah!” Terry, who has a long history of attacks against the gay community, went on to criticize marriage equality for gays and lesbians, and said that the economy can only recover when we “put God back” in government.
Watch video of Terry’s words, below. Santorum, like the rest of the audience, can be seen applauding during the remarks:
Here, Terry prays over Santorum, asking God to “have favor over” the candidate:

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 12:24pmThat God is the key to turning our country around from the path of collectivism, is true as far as it goes; And while the principles of individual liberty, private property rights, and the free market, can only be grounded in a theistic worldview, our country was not founded as a Christian nation, but rather a free nation WITHIN which all views – Christian or otherwise – could be weighed on their own merits, without fear.
What part of “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;” doesn’t this guy understand?
At any rate, Santorum is done, for a different reason.

This nation was started for one purpose, to win the lost to Jesus Christ, this nation literally brought missionaries across the Atlantic to win lost souls of the indigenous people.
If you are still confused or desire to be a historical revisionist, go learn some real American history and read the original Jamestown Charter of Virginia, 1606. The purpose was to propagate the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a people who lived in darkness and miserable ignorance of the true knowledge and worship of God.

Becuase it was founded upon Judeo-Christian principles including its political and judicial patterns that does make it a Christian Nation. Now does it officially endorse a particular denomination…no, but it does not need to in order to be considered from a historical perspective to be a Christian Nation. One tour of D.C. and visualizing all of the scripture and biblical principles emblazened on all the buildings and statues tells a very different story then you just did. Read the writings of the framers and founders and it is clear to anyone with a grade school diploma that there intent was to allow the practice of Christianity up to individuals, but they most definitely viewed this country as Christian period. It is undenaible no matter who tries to rewrite the history books.

“This country was most defintiely founded upon Judeo-Christian principles. It is undeniable. Becuase it was founded upon Judeo-Christian principles including its political and judicial patterns that does make it a Christian Nation.”
Again, what part of “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;” don’t you understand?
The fact that most citizens adhered to Christian principles at the time is irrelevant to the fact that our nation was founded to facilitate freedom of speech and commerce – not to make all citizens Christian, which, at any rate, has to be done by individuals.
If the government tries to force people to be Christian – which is impossible, given that the requirement for salvation is one’s own faith in Christ – that is called tyranny.
The Founders’ goal, however Christian they were (and some were just religious rather than Christian), was to ensure that America’s citizens were free to speak their minds so that reason had a chance to influence the role of government and the settling of disputes in court.
When our Founders wrote that “The United States [government at the national level] shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government …”, what that implies is the existence of different state and community interests.

And in fact, our Founders argued that it was the very existence of many factions, as opposed to just a few, that keeps a single faction from gaining a majority influence in the national government.
See here.
Federalist Papers #10
http://constitution.org/fed/federa10.htm
“The influence of factious leaders may kindle a flame within their particular States, but will be unable to spread a general conflagration through the other States. A religious sect may degenerate into a political faction in a part of the Confederacy; but the variety of sects dispersed over the entire face of it must secure the national councils against any danger from that source. A rage for paper money, for an abolition of debts, for an equal division of property, or for any other improper or wicked project, will be less apt to pervade the whole body of the Union than a particular member of it; in the same proportion as such a malady is more likely to taint a particular county or district, than an entire State.”
So, you very much WANT freedom of speech, because it forces us all to make sound arguments for our positions. You want government to be based on reason, rather than emotion, because, as our Founders also said, “power is of an encroaching nature”.

If I understand you correctly, you’re saying that whether or not Atheists realize it, they live in God‘s world and that the concept of morality only makes sense if there’s a God.
Yes, agreed.
But our attitude should also be that as long as we’re all free to speak our minds, then let the best arguments win. And the Atheists would agree.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 10:18amI am really tired of people throwing the word tolerance around with Christianity. People should be using the word compromise instead. The Bible doesn’t preach tolerance. I am sorry to the fellow who said “if he is a true minister…” because that is just not to be the found. The Bible is described as sharper than a two-edged sword. Touch one and see how tolerant it is. The Bible is very clear on what is the way, truth, and life. It makes a very sharp distinction between those who go to heaven and those who choose to go to hell. In some sense, the Bible is very divisive. God tells it like it is. I would be astonished if people read the Bible, saw how God dealt with evil, and then manage to walk away with the word tolerance on their mind. Jesus never told the prostitute to keep enjoying her lifestyle and everyone else should accept her ways. It doesn’t matter what translation you read or what language, he told her to go and sin no more. To put it plainly, God hates sin. Period. It separates people from God. We lose this profound effect when we discuss loving the sinner, forgetting that as much as God loves us, he will not accept sin. He forgives, but will not condone. Compromise and tolerance are not God’s ways, but the ways of those who think church is a thing to do rather than a life to live.
–No where does the constitution say you should never have to hear someone pray. In fact, I’d argue that is says more that if your teacher wants to pray, then shut up and listen

We, according to our faith, never desire to force conversion to Christianity, and according to the philosophy of welcoming all, we embraced diversity as a sign of our “maturity” as a people. Then, one day, we woke from the nightmare that was stealing our nation, our children and the country. Inclusion now means that you can’t believe you are right about anything. By definition, faith in Christ means there is a right and wrong path.
If I believe that Christ alone saves, I am called a bigot. I am “intolerant”. The first line of attach was humanism, which says I can believe anything I want UNLESS I think my faith represents truth. Truth is their enemy. And in that, we were asked to give up our Christian faith which understands truth.
Report Post »Texas.7
Posted on March 20, 2012 at 10:39amBut they aren’t just about inclusion any more. It appears that in their drunken celebration (metaphorically speaking), the secularists have fallen asleep while communists, anarchists and Islamists have “occupied” their movements. Now, Islam is a recognised, valid faith, while Christianity isn’t. If you believe that terrorists are Muslim, and that Allah calls them to kill- then you are a bigot. Just as you are a bigot to believe that Christ saves. And the more certain you are, the more bigoted you are- and the more they view you as the enemy. Bomb packing terrorists are fighting a just cause?… and lovers of peace are the bigots?!?
So, while humanists changed our language, our history, our education, media, government, justice system and now attached the constitution, other movements crept into their space and have begun to change their movement. Communism has learned from Islam, which presents itself as a very effective and efficient way to control the masses. Islam has become the iron fist of domination, a proven master over mankind. In the end, by working together, these radicals have good reason to believe they will win. But the deceivers are deceived.
But they don’t know God, their Creator, whom they shake their fist at. Turn to God while free will allows. Love wins this battle.
So, why am I so confident in Christ? I know Because with one foot in heaven already, we stand on a firm foundation. We are here for a purpose. Love wins.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 11:01amBrigitte Gabriel who grew up in Lebanon saw what Islam did to that country, she said Muslims used tolerance of intolerance against us. I think that has what has happened here. You are right, we slept, we weren’t watchmen on the wall. We were complacent and distracted and just took for granted that this country was blessed and nothing could change that. We were exceptional and always would be. But we were great because we were good. And that changed.
Report Post »Last night I heard Rabbi Lapin speak and he said that what is being said today about Christians no one would dare say it against Muslims, or any other group not even Jews. He said that what he is hearing is even more distrubing then what is being said about Jews. This is an orthodox Rabbi who went on to say that America’s only hope as a nation is for a Christian evangelical revival. I pray for that. I pray that everything that can be shaken is shaken that Yah establish an unshakeable kingdom. No one at the founding of this country was yammering about how the Christian majority wasn’t tolerant enough of them. Our Founders were godly men, we were all told lies in a secular school system pushing a far left, liberal, marxist, socialist godless agenda they weren’t. The country was great because of the strong, moral Christian values and principles – our Declaration of Independece and Bill of Rights were inspired by the Black Robe Regiment – pastors who thundered a non-compromised biblical word. I want that America back!

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 12:42pmYAHSHUARULES, I am with you 100%. I really like Rabbi Lapin also. I used to work with a Jewish organisation through my employer around the time of 911, and they used to say that conservative Christians are the greatest friends to the Jew. They always treated us and our religion with the utmost respect, and we reciprocated.
We have been so lied to! And we are being taught not to stand boldly on truth because we are arrogant to know truth. That is a lie! Jesus is Truth- and not only can we know Him, but He opens our eyes to recognise the enemy of truth. I think that is why my unsaved friends and family have so much trouble believing all of what is happening in this nation, while strong Christians are dumbfounded at what we are witnessing. We absolutely need revival, because Jesus is our hope. And not just for us who already have the assurance of salvation, but to the many who will call out in His name in the days to come. I am praying that many who are blind, wandering in darkness will soon open their eyes and understand. This is a battle for souls. And victory is found in His name.
