Pastor Jones on ‘Today’: ‘God Is Telling Us to Stop’

From MSNBC:

Pastor Terry Jones told NBC’s TODAY show on Saturday that his church in Gainesville, Fla., would not burn Qurans in protest to the building of an Islamic center near the site of the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.
“We will definitely not burn the Quran, no,” he said.
“Not today, not ever,” he said when pressed about whether his planned demonstration might happen at a later date. He explained that it would not happen even if the Islamic center is built near ground zero.
Jones flew to New York to appear on NBC’s TODAY show and told interviewer Carl Quintanilla that there was no meeting set up with New York Imam Faisal Rauf.

Here’s the interview:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

And Jones is still hoping to meet with the Imam.

“Even though we have not burned one Quran, we have gotten over 100 death threats,” Jones said. “We feel that God is telling us to stop, and we also hope that … maybe that will open up the door to maybe be able to talk to the imam.”
Jones said that his church’s goal was “to expose that there is an element of Islam that is very dangerous and very radical.”
He told NBC that “we have definitely accomplished that mission.”

Pastor Jones reminds me of the Matlock character on the TV show. Opponents always underestimate Matlock’s smartness and his “kick his foot in the dust… shucks” persona.” He;s just a HICK but underneath tells a very different story.

I like to think that Pastor Jones is much the same way… that he played a great publicity card of burning the Koran to get the USA’s MSM attention so that the moderate Muslim lie would be exposed and that Obaqma was more sympathetic to Islam that Christianity.

What I believe he didn’t figure on was how much the MSM would make this a worldwide event and the viciousness of Muslims He KNEW the death threats would come thus exposing true Islam to any thinking person. I know 100% that a multiple of Fatwahs have been placed on his life. If you don’t know what a Fatwah is, Essentialy it is death contract put out on someone just the Mafia does.

I hope NOW people will do what Glenn Beck urges… find out the truth about the Koran and other “holy” documents for onesself. I have done so and my conclusions are based on hard research.

I’m from Florida and I called in to a local radio talk show on Wednesday. I said that Pastor Jones did not need to go through with the Koran burnings for one good reason. I felt that all along, Jones and his small group of congregants, were trying to make a statement. They were going to burn the Korans on 9/11 to remind people that it was Islamic extremists that attacked America on 9/11/2001, killing almost 3,000 innocent people. IMO, they were also going to burn the Korans to remind people that the extremists were still a threat and to wake up before we end up like the UK. Complacency would be foolish, indeed!

An unknown pastor from a little ole church in Gainesville, Florida, accomplished the goal of reminding us. He did NOT need to follow through with the burnings because the point was made. He had over 100 death threats, hundreds of protesters around the world chanting “Death to America”and all of that was simply because the pastor and friends were simply exercising their rights under the U.S. Constitution.

Notice that (so far) the NYC imam refused to agree to a compromise. The pastor has proven to be the better man, and radical Islam has reminded us of what a lot of Americans believe to be true: for the post part, Islam is an intolerant religion that insists on having its way with the intent of taking over the world and Sharia Law being THE law over everyone.

Great post except for one thing. It is NOT radical Islam but Fatwahs are OKed in the Koran. Islam is a very violent and bigoted religion whose worldview is that Allah is to rule the world and using violence is OK to reach that goal. Either submit or DIE.

Pastor Jones’ distasteful and publicity seeking actions, although thoughtless and self serving, do dramatize a point, The mere mention of anything Islamic in negative terms incites the Muslim world to join in jihad and prompts the politically correct world to fall to it’s knees in apologetic submission.

We are not at war with Islam, Radical Islam is at war with us. Yet, for some strange reason Liberals can’t distinguish Islam from Radical Islam, and in failing to do so appear as ignorant as the Pastor in their inability to differentiate between the two.

Peace will not be won by burning books ever. Now is the time to take up the call to defend our nation. Join the Military and make a true difference.

As the world now sees we are a peaceful nation. But make no mistake – when called Americans have always answered and defended that which we hold sacred.

As a wise Japanese Admiral once noted – “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve” – Isoroku Yamamoto.

Uhhmmm that’s just ludicrous. In my opinion it’s stupid to burn books – any book – but free speech of the spoken word – while I may not like it or agree with it is another story.

Words to do not destroy anything. They do not deprive the world of ideas. Spoken words can do nothing in and of themselves.

The cowardly protesters did what they did to themselves. No one forced them – no one burned their holy Koran. You are actually saying they are so primitive that can’t control themselves.

If someone threatened to burn what YOU hold dear – your kids, your family, your…whatever – would you do anything to stop them from carrying out their threat? I would. I can‘t imagine killing someone over a book of words because I don’t care all that much about what humans say about God. I can only empathize by substituting what I imagine versus what others may feel equally passionate about. I used the “children burning” example to illustrate my point (I have no children, but I imagine I would kill for them If I did, see?).

While I absolutely agree burning the Koran is not the best way voice dissatisfaction, the overwhelming condemning of it is hypocritical too. I’ve repeated heard arguments that it will cause more deaths. I disagree. If it’s not this, it’s the taxi driver getting stabbed, if it’s not that, it’s another successful attack on Al Qaeda, if it’s not that, it made up propaganda that we did something…like someone photoshopping the Pastor burning the Koran, and then Muslims spreading that around. It doesn’t matter what we do or say, radical muslims will continue on the path of darkness killing people. The fact that you have people in powerful positions, profess that the Holocaust was a hoax to this day, makes it clear that people will believe what they want, when they want.

In the end, it’s a book. Anyone that gets upset about burning a book because of what it represents, clearly has a very shallow, or even false belief in said faith. Whatever the book of faith is, the faith is in the person, not printed words. Of coarse my argument would be different, if the intent of burning the book was to eradicate all printed copies everywhere to remove it’s existence.

I read the Koran as part of a world religion class in college. It’s a lot like the Old Testament in that there are rules to live by. Rules that in Christianity have been superceded by the New Testament or just ignored as being outdated. Many of my muslim friends have done the same. It is always the hardliners that make trouble. Try to remember that when we discuss people like “pastor” Jones or the nutjobs in Arab countries. My son calls me a progressive conservative, though I consider myself a liberal.

Acting in hate and anger opens the possibility for more. If he had read the Koran before proposing burning it he might have realized that anyone following it might take it personally as a declaration and wish for jihad. Bad timing so long as there are ongoing operations in the middle east. But there is rarely ever a time where there isn’t war in that part of the world. There’s a lesson in that easy to learn history.

I have to say that I wish Mr. Jones would have burned the Korans today. There have been countless burnings of the bible, American flags, and symbols of America. We are to be tolerant of the evil around us. Any American who loves this country and has witnessed the images of these burnings has had to make a gut check. There are feelings that arise which we never could imagine or communcate to another. It is confusing and frustrating. However, we understand that as much as we don‘t like it or wouldn’t participate in it, we digest our feelings and accept that it is the right of an individual to express himself. After all, they are only symbols, and are replaceable.

Now as the tide begins to flow the other way, there is a great backlash. There are many questions we must ask. It is only now that the muslims are going to get mad at us? It is only now they will burn American flags and symbols of America? Only now it matters because we have some troops in Afganistan? Has everyone forgotten about the thousands of times we have seen these things before? We are to accept these threats with some kind of validity that it is only now they want to harm us? Do we really care if it makes all of the radicals grab their guns and get slaughtered from our troops? Won’t it make the job easier?

I was against the Koran burning until the world of Islam made a big deal about it. What about the Christians who were killed last month for trying to give humanitarian needs? Where is the love from the muslims there? What about Daniel Pearl? Where was the outcry? These are human beings for God’s sake!!! These were not just symbols that are replaceable. Maybe this just shows how a religion can make people worshipers of idols instead of God. If they did love God (Allah), then wouldn’t they want to pray for those who needed help and rejected him? This hatred is not of God.

Muslims claim to be peaceful, but the more I learn about the Koran, the more I learn that it mostly teaches fighting infidels. America needs to wake up before we find ourselves in the same situation as France, the UK, or worse…

Even the president is siding with them against the american people!! The president is not only out of touch with the american people he has no sense of the hearts of americans. Just like he said in his book ( which was a huge controversy at the time) that he would side with the muslims if there were a conflict of ideas. He may not be a practicing muslim but he, sure as hell, is not a christian in any form that we as americans can understand. I have researched the issues and found this article that explains why they will not move the mosque. see for yourself http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/islam_center_eerie_echo_of_ancient_iRTMW6TprkULnaA1Nqi9xM there is no more stealth jihad it is here NOW and they are getting upset because we are exposing it.

peace loving moslims are still burning what we hold sacred. I wonder is a case of riot, burn and kill because we are offended or a case of we want to riot, burn and kill and this is an excuse??? All the love from islam leads me to this the latter.

Remember after 9-11 all it took was a utube video to have our homelandsecurity spend hundreds of thousands and raise the color alert ?

Well I think Jones is Brilliant. All it took was the rumor of burning to spark the “religion of peas” to riot and kill each other in their streets. Totally exposing the myth of radical vs moderate. There is no moderate. There will be no peace.

I think once a week we should issue a threat to burn the koran.
I wonder how long it will take them to catch on ?
In the meantime, it surely puts a shine on just how peaceful they are, huh ?
Not to mention the utter bankruptcy of the victory mosque, “bridge building” meme.
After a week of traveling in the middle east all he comes back with is; “they will see the move as an attack” a poorly veiled threat.
Fine, interpret this: a RICO investigation of the cordoba funding and players.

one‘s response to someone else’s provocative action is entirely one’s own responsibility.
“If you do something that offends me, I am under no obligation to kill you, or injure you, or run to the United Nations to try to get laws passed that will silence you. I am free to ignore you, or laugh at you, or to respond with charity, or to respond with insult, or any number of reactions.”

This is how they do it in three steps:
      (1) Persuasion (if this does not work then go to step 2)
      (2) Persecution (if this does not work then go to step 3)
      (3) destruction (Kill)

      Then victory.
