Pastor Who Helped Lesbian-Turned-Evangelical Christian ‘Kidnap’ Her Daughter & Flee the U.S. May Be Headed to Jail

Rev. Kenneth Miller Convicted in Lisa Miller Lesbian Kidnap Case

MONTPELIER, Vt. (TheBlaze/AP) – A pastor from Virginia was convicted Tuesday of helping a woman flee the country three years ago, when she was on the brink of having to turn custody of her young daughter over to the woman who was once her lover and partner in a Vermont civil union. The complicated case was first covered by TheBlaze back in June 2011.

The jury issued its verdict against the Rev. Kenneth Miller after several hours of deliberations in the case, which has drawn broad attention because of the legal and religious questions it raised about same-sex unions and child custody, and because the whereabouts of mother and daughter remain unknown.

Miller, 46, a Mennonite from Stuarts Draft, Va., was charged with aiding in international kidnapping for helping Lisa Miller and her daughter, Isabella, leave the country in September 2009, a month after a judge indicated he would turn custody of the girl over to Janet Jenkins, of Fair Haven, Vt., if she continued to defy a series of visitation orders.

Kenneth and Lisa Miller are not related. Lisa and Isabella, now 10 years old, were last known to be in Nicaragua.

As the jury was deliberating, Jenkins filed a lawsuit against both Millers and other people associated with the case, seeking unspecified monetary damages.

Kenneth Miller showed no emotion as the verdict was read and will remain free pending sentencing, although he was ordered to surrender his passport. After the verdict, his supporters walked out of the Burlington courthouse, lined up across the street and began singing hymns.

“I am willing to accept the consequences of my actions,” said Miller, who could spend three years in prison. “I am at peace with God. I am peace with my conscience and I give it over to God, and at the same time I respect the decision of the court.”

He said an appeal would be up to his attorneys, who left the courthouse shortly after the verdict was read.

Jenkins was not in court at the time, but her attorney said she is pleased that Kenneth Miller was being held accountable.

“She hopes that the verdict will send a message to those who continue to aid and abet Lisa Miller in Nicaragua,” said attorney Sarah Star. “Her greatest hope is that the government‘s efforts will lead to Isabella’s safe return to Vermont.”

During three days of testimony, prosecutors used cellphone records and sometimes-reluctant witnesses to lay out a broad network overseen by Kenneth Miller that helped Lisa and Isabella travel first to Canada and then Nicaragua.

Prosecutors said Kenneth Miller arranged for another person to drive the two from Virginia to Buffalo, N.Y., where they crossed into Canada and were picked up by an Ontario Mennonite who took them to an airport. After they arrived in Nicaragua, prosecutors said, the two were cared for by American Mennonites who felt they needed to protect Isabella from what they considered a sinful lesbian lifestyle.

The U.S. does not have an extradition treaty with Nicaragua. The country is not a signer of the 1980 Hague convention on international child abductions, which is designed to return children illegally taken from member countries.

Lisa Miller and Jenkins entered into a civil union in Vermont in 2000, shortly after the state became the first to legally recognize same-sex relationships. Miller conceived the child through artificial insemination, and both acted as parents.

Lisa Miller later became an evangelical Christian and renounced her homosexuality. A child-custody case went to Vermont family court in 2004, after the couple dissolved the civil union. Lisa Miller, who moved to Lynchburg, Va., was given primary custody of Isabella, with Jenkins given visitation rights.

Lisa Miller appealed the case for years, but ultimately the courts in Virginia and Vermont determined the case would be bound by the Vermont family court order. After defying visitation orders, Miller became a fugitive in 2009 when she disappeared with Isabella.

Charges were dropped in October against an American Mennonite missionary living in Nicaragua, Timothy Miller, who is not related to the other Millers. Prosecutors said he helped Lisa Miller reach Central America; he cooperated in the case against Kenneth Miller.

Timothy Miller said in videotaped testimony that he knew Lisa Miller was fleeing the U.S. because of the custody battle but believed at the time that she had full custody of Isabella. He said he picked the mother and child up when they arrived in Managua and arranged a place for them to live in Nicaragua.

“I did not believe it was a crime I had committed,” said Timothy Miller, who is not related to the other Millers.

A lawyer for a group that promotes the rights of gays and lesbians says a pastor’s conviction in Vermont reinforces the rights of same-sex parents.

Gregory Nevins of Lambda Legal says an acquittal could have been a “green light” for people fighting same-sex custody battles to move to states that would support their positions.

But Mathew Staver of the Liberty Counsel, which represented Lisa Miller until her disappearance, says he thinks the case was too narrowly focused to have broader implications.

In brief but emotional testimony, Jenkins gave an overview of her relationship with Lisa Miller and a history of some of her visits with Isabella between the time the two split up in 2003 and Lisa Miller and the girl left the country Sept. 22, 2009.

Jenkins last saw Isabella in January 2009 and was looking forward to a late September visit.

“I was going to go to Lynchburg and pick my daughter up for the weekend,” said Jenkins, who runs a day-care business. But when she arrived to pick up Isabella, no one was home.

You support kidnapping a child from her biological mother and putting her in a home with a sexual deviant so that she can brainwash her into thinking that homosexuality is ok. It looks like you don’t care one bit about the child. This is all about your sick cause to brainwash society into thinking that homosexuality is normal and acceptable.

It is poignant to see how the fables that Eusebius put together in 325, as a political tool for Emperor Constantine, is still believed to be the word of a God and used to pass judgment at random today.

All children are “indoctrinated” by their parents/mentors. Today, the word carries an implied connotation of harmful doctrine or teaching, but in its pure form the word simply refers to the process of organized, systematic teaching.
So obviously when we believe the truth that God created man, man rebelled against God, man now lives in a fallen world, yet God planned our redemption which was fulfilled by Christ coming to Earth to sacrifice Himself as a perfect, sinless offering, but then resurrected from the dead allowing anyone to accept His free gift of eternal life by repenting and believing this Good News, then it is of eternal importance (very weighty) that we not tiptoe around sin, as it deceives us into arrogantly believing that our own sinful desires can never be judged by anyone, even God. But He will judge us at His Judgment Seat and we will either be found forgiven or guilty. I pray that you escape the wrath of God to come by accepting the peace offering He has extended to us all.

Lisa Miller is the biological parent. Her rights should be upheld. I agree with the religious argument of marriage being between one man and one woman, as I am a Christian, however let’s put that aside and argue without it. When you allow a woman to take the place of a man in a relationship or a man to take the place of a woman in a relationship you are stating that men and women are the same, we are not. We are different because a mother provides a defining role for a child and a father does as well. This child having two mothers only leads to confusion for the child. How would Lisa Miller describe this relationship to this child growing up. It is confusing and completely inappropriate for a young child to be burdened with. This other woman should leave her alone…..she clearly does not care for the well being of this child.

Cofe: Unfortunately, you are not right n this one.

Janet – the non-mom and non-parent – sued Lisa (the real Mom and parent) in a Vermont court, aided by an extreme gay activist attorney. The Vermont judge, of course, sided with the gay non-everything and took total custody away from the real Mom. Not even visitation with her own daughter. It was only after this impossible to imagine injustice that Lisa protected her daughter and vanished, rather than serve the child up to homosexual indoctrination and parental alienation.

So – while Encinom is wrong about everything, all the time, it is correct Janet was given faux (but legally enforceable) custody of a child she had no ties to.

While I have not followed this story closely, I can say without reservation that I am ashamed of Vermont and its ultra-liberal, gay rights fervor and lack of Christian beliefs. I was born in VT and have family that has been here for generations. I am almost embarrassed now to admit that I am a native Vermonter. Not only has our state become slaves to liberals, our government and judicial system clearly favor homosexuals over Christians. I believe that all things being equal, the biological parent’s rights outweigh anyone else involved. What saddens me most about this story is that Lisa felt she had no other alternative but to take her child and run. This case is a travesty and the VT courts failed this mother and daughter.

If Lisa had converted to Islam, might she have had a different outcome? Hmmmm . . .

Lets get the facts straight, I understand you christians can only lie and hide from the truth. The truth is custody was originally with the birth mother, with the other partner having visitation rights. It was only after the unstable birth mother, brainwashed by her new cult, did she break the visitation ruling. As what happens in custody cases between heterosexual couples, the wronged party goes to court to sue for enforcement of the original order.

Can you Christians ever tell the truth or is it okay to lie about people you hate.

Its a shame the jury didn‘t have knowledge of the fact that they are NOT required to find the defendant guilty if the facts don’t fit the case or the law was applied inappropriately, as appears to have been the case here. . There is organization called The Fully Informed Jury Association whose mission is to inform those who may be called as jurors of all their rights and responsibilities, not just those commonly read to them by judges at triage. Even one informed juror could have turned this case on its ear if they had done the right thing (as all should do regardless of man’s laws] and found the Minister not guilty.

This is un-flipping real. The liberal courts want to take the legit, real deal child of the real mother, and give custody to a sicko lesbian. The real mother was once caught up in homosexuality. She had a baby, and saw the evil of the situation of what she was living in, and decided to raise her child in a normal environment. Now the liberal northern courts have decided the real mom does not get her actual daughter, and she should be turned over to the lesbian. The mom and daughter ran to central America, and Christian people are keeping them hidden. I wish I knew how to donate money to these people, so they could keep this lady and her child safe.

The assumption of “adoption” by Git-R-Done is a reasonable and logical one.
Since the lesbian plaintiff was not a natural parent of the child, she did not become the “legal” parent if she did not legally adopt the child. Although some liberal judges have engaged in judicial activism in some cases by simply saying that a homosexual partner automatically becomes a legal parent of any child their partner gives birth to, there is no law I’m aware of that codifies this concept.
The Commonwealth of Virginia did not (and does not) recognize the alleged right of the plaintiff to legal parentage, but conceded to the jurisdiction of the State of Vermont because it was a custody battle.

So, Janet Jenkins is neither the “natural” mother, nor the “legal” mother. She is simply a confused human who has lost her moral bearings.

There is no way this non-biological lesbian should have any access to this child. The Bible is full of Christian leaders that spent time in prison for their beliefs and many died for their beliefs. God delivered many of them from their shackles, from firey furnaces and from the lions den. These believers refused to bow down to un-Godly laws. It is time that Christians today do the same.

    THIS MINISTER IS AN ABSOLUTE H E R O !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To anyone who has been following this story since the beginning, it’s a sad and vile commentary on the self absorption of gay activists and their indifference to any and all others.

The person suing – Janet – a lesbian, was in a ‘lesbian relationship’ (in Vermont, called a ‘marriage’) with Lisa; they decided to have a child, which Lisa did. Janet worked & showed little parenting interest; Lisa stayed at home and cared for HER baby. Lisa & Janet later dissolved their relationship and Lisa moved with her daughter back to Virginia to be near her own parents. Janet was in agreement.

Later Janet expressed a desire to have time with the baby (Isabella) and Lisa complied, shipping Isabella off to Vermont from time to time. It didn’t go well; Janet used the visits to indoctrinate little Isabella into lesbianism and Isabella started rebelling when visits came up. Meanwhile, Lisa came to Christ and decided it was wrong her baby would be indoctrinated into sin and refused further visits. Janet then hired a leading gay activist lawyer to pursue custody. Of course, the Vermont court, reflective of the insane and anti-human culture there, sided with the active lesbian.

Incredibly – the Vermont court TOTALLY STRIPPED Lisa of her rights as a mother and awarded full custody to Janet, the non-biologic and disinterested adult. Rather than offer up her baby to what awaited her in Vermont, Lisa went into hiding.

If she wants a child so badly she should go get artificially inseminated and have her own child just like her ex-partner did. JMCCLENA,
YOU are an idiot for even imagining the plaintiff has ANY legitimate claim under “natural” law.
Let’s illustrate the absurdity. We keep on this slippery slide of “anything goes” morality. Next, polygamy wins legal status.
Soon after that, pedophilia/child molestation becomes legal, as long as the child doesn’t object (U.N. “Rights of the Child”). Then marrying the molested child becomes a “right” demanded by pedophiles. The legality of homosexual marriage serves as the precedent, so it passes into law.
So it logically includes men marrying little boys, while their parents are sued for conspiring to violate the pedophile’s “rights”.
Then, bestiality. A woman marries her dog. After being artificially inseminated, the woman gives birth to a human. She then divorces the dog. Lawyers for the dog (from PETA) demand visiting rights for the dog, not to mention alimony.
If you see this as a society to be desired, you bear the guilt of causing the decline and eventual destruction of what has been the greatest nation in history.

YOU are an idiot for even imagining the plaintiff has ANY legitimate claim under “natural” law.
Let’s illustrate the absurdity. We keep on this slippery slide of “anything goes” morality. Next, polygamy wins legal status.

The only absurdity is your debunked, bigotted slippery slope argument, another hold over from the arguments made against Loving v. Virgina. We are talking about two consenting adults, children and animals are not consenting adults. Its that simple logic test that Conservative Christians fail.

Encinom – If anybody is bigoted, it’s psychopaths like you. You act like the courts have a right to tear apart a child from her biological mother, who has done nothing wrong. The other woman is not her biological mother nor did she legally adopt her.

You’re also a hypocrite for not supporting polygamy and yet you claim that marriage is a civil right.

The birth mother of the child has the child. The sick twisted lesbian has no blood relation to that child, nor did she ever adopt the child.

If this story were about a woman and her child leaving her boyfriend (that was not the father of the child), no court in the land would be looking to give the child to the boyfriend. This all all pro homosexual politics up in liberal land.

this is one reason why we need to fight AGAINST s/s unions–“marriage” or “civil unions.” i don’t care what adults do, but when kids are involved, that‘s a whole ’nuther ballgame. jenkins has NO rights to this child and all the Millers did the right thing by trying to protect this child from the sham-parent. this sounds harsh and sorry, jenkins, she ain’t your daughter. happy that ms. miller turned her life around, but it is a sad reality that consequences of sin can follow us and really wreck havoc in our lives.

How is this any different, if it was an opposite sex couple? An unstable kidnapper, violated the laws of the Sovereign State of Vermont, with the unlawful help of a pastor who thought he was above the law.

This happens sadly all the time in custody cases. The only difference is that moral crusaders can parade their bigotry.

Encinom – If anybody is a paranoid cruscader, it’s people like you who are trying to legislate your immorality down our throats.

Two people of the same gender can’t create a child. That child belongs with her biological mother and the other woman didn’t legally adopt her, so she has no claims on the child.

At least two people of the opposite sex can create a child and that’s why they have the legal claim on the custody issues.

I have been following this case for a long time, and it only gets uglier. That pastor is a real hero in this story, and it is a shame that our legal system has slipped so far into darkness that it would call what he did a crime. Lisa Miller is being persecuted in this case, and now Kenneth Miller is, too. Janet Jenkins is no more a mother of that child than I am. I pray often for Lisa and her daughter and hope that someday Lisa will write a book about this ordeal that will become a cautionary tale for young women who might lightly enter into a lesbian relationship.

      Exactly!

Janet had little to no interest in Isabella until she decided to indoctrinate her.

And now Janet and her gay activist attorney – aided and abetted by the pro-gay activist court in Vermont – are conducting a Sherman’s March to the Sea, destroying anything and everything in their path.

      DESPICABLE, these gay activists!

For those individuals, they are willing to respectfully submit to the consequences imposed by the courts without remorse or regret. This will become more and more common as our laws become more and more unjust and rooted in the wisdom of man rather than the Judeo-Christian foundation our laws and courts were founded upon. If you say you were born that way, then you are saying that God made a mistake. God doesn’t make mistakes.
If you say you are saved and deny the Word of God then you are lying to yourself. Countless people have tried to show mistakes in the Word and have failed.

@HEAVYDUTY- You sound Christian, but if so how could you say this: “You can’t sin willfully against God and expect Him to bless you.”? I am pretty sure that Jesus met an adulterer and forgave her and then said “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” None of us are worthy of being blessed by your standard.

As your brother in Christ, I suggest you focus less on judging others, and more on loving your neighbor.

And I highly doubt that Lisa Miller went on to be a preacher in Nicaragua to be a pastor with her daughter that she escaped with to protect from such an “abominable” lifestyle. But if you say there‘s no salvation from being gay then sir you’re denying your own salvation. We are no better than anyone regardless of beliefs or actions and we are saved through Jesus Christ regardless of what we have done. So no one not even a Christian has the right to condemn anyone for what they’ve done. I would ask that you reassess your own relationship with Christ.
