ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (The Blaze/AP) — Authorities say the daughter of a pastor was accidentally shot in the head at a church in St. Petersburg.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Grace Connection Church Sunday at about 12:24 p.m. Sunday.
The gun went off and fired through a wall, striking 20-year-old Hannah Kelley. She was transported to Bayfront Medical Center to undergo surgery and remained in critical condition late Sunday. The New York Daily News has more:
The shooting occurred after morning services, and about 40 people were at the church, according to local reports.
Kelley was rushed to Bayfront Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery on Sunday. She was reported to be in critical condition.
Investigators said Zambrana is a licensed security officer and has a carry permit for the weapon, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
He occasionally worked the soundboard at the church and provided security for church events, friends told the Times.
No charges have been filed.

The only time you should have ACCESS to a weapon restricted is while in prison. When you get out, your debt is clean. If your crime was that bad, you should not be out. Freakin’ brain-washed sheep.

Ok you have the right to bear arms, but there really should be some mandatory training as many of these accidents are avoidable. I find it ironic though that some say America is or has this gun culture mentality, if this were the case things like this wouldn’t take place, there are a select few of Americans that actually know how to handle a weapon, the rest just want to have and handle a weapon with zero experience, not a good combo in my opinion.

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 9:26pmEvery firearm has a round in the chamber until you check it, then you still treat it as if has one there.
It is tragic that this girl lost her life to someone elses stupidity and carless act. That being said, you know the anti gun crowd like to use this against us. Never mind how many kids drowned in their own bath tub or swimmin pool, or how many accidental deaths from falling off a ladder, or accidental deaths from a vehicle./ Libs are not looking to outlaw your bathtub, car, or ladder, they want your gun, and they want it for a number of reasons.
the gun is what seperates the citizen from the surf. It takes practice and discipline to properly use a rifle or pistol. Lazy people do not have this skill, and they hate to know you have it. Libs/dems/progressives know that they will never be able to take your Bible or your children, until they first take your gun, and believe me, they want your Bible and you children.
Continue to teach people around you propper gun safety. Treat all as if they are loaded, Do not touch the trigger until you are ready to fire it, Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and do not point at things you are not willing to destroy, Keep the weapon on safe until you are pointed at the target and ready to fire. know your target and what is beyond it. If you can not quote those five rules cold, then keep your hands off the fire arms. Do not be afraid to ask knowledgable people how to handle a certain firearm

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 10:16pmThis is the most dangerous part of handling a gun whey you are unloading it and loading it,
Report Post »especially semi-autos. people take the magazine out and do not double check the chamber. This must be done, actually look into the breach to verify it is empty. Some folk carry a semi-auto with an empty chamber for this reason. I hate to hear of these accidents. Any time you pull the trigger know where the bullet can go. If it goes off and you have thought about where it might end up before you pull the trigger on the empty gun and it does go off you are just embarrassed. Walls do not stop bullets. There was a fairly famous incident in the Border Patrol where a true gun expert (nationally renowned shooter) was dry firing his service gun, reloaded it put it in his desk and forgot it was loaded when he dry fired at the wall and killed another agent in the next room. This happened many years ago but shows what can happen. The first thing you have to think of with a gun is Safety!!!!! Our prayers are with her.

Of course we could avoid those accidents if we simply took away their cars.

It‘s ridiculous that he didn’t know a bullet was in the chamber. ANYONE taught to use semi-automatic pistols learns that unloading the weapon involved removing the magazine AND clearing the chamber.
What’s more disturbing is his choice of ammo. If he’s keeping the gun AT THE CHURCH then they really should be loaded with safety rounds to minimize the likelihood of the bullet going through the wall, as happened here. The girl‘s just lucky it wasn’t a .45.

Treat it that way and save lives. If all of society is unarmed, then the bad guys will be the only ones armed besides the police. Since police don’t prevent tragedies rather they follow up and try and arrest the bad guy after the fact, I’ll take my chances and stay prepared.
As for California’s laws, is it right to take a gun and make all safety tests be redone just because the color scheme is changed/updated, or if a component is found to be faulty and a material change is made? Same gun, same mechanisms, still a human involved.

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 6:12pmThe gun didn’t just go off. Someone fired it. I’ve never seen a gun that laid there and just went the hell off on its own intentions. The one that fired the gun is responsible for the injury. If two were present and both handled the gun then there’s a problem for both. It‘s not the gun’s fault. It‘s not the bullet’s fault. If that could be argued, then one could say it‘s the building’s fault for not stopping the gun and/or bullet. The fault lies not with the inanimate objects, the gun, the bullet, the building, but with the handlers of the weapon and theirs alone. People who are uncomfortable with or have no training in handling a firearm should not be handling them in other than in proper situations with licensed instructors. This is no different than handling an automobile except that we have a right to bear arms and no right to bear an auto. Driving is a privilege and not a right. Gun ownership and training should be taught in schools. It’s interesting that in high schools, one can take “driving” as a class that leads to a liscense to operate the most deadliest machine in the world, yet training of firearm use isn’t, even though we are told that too many people die from not properly knowing how to use nor respect a weapon. You would think the schools should focus on the responsibility needed to live under and the exercising of our rights as proclaimed in our Constitution. Personally, I believe the focus on our rights should be ahead of focus on our

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 6:11pmSt. Pete has a lot of problems with guns and death the last few years along with St. Pete being voted as one of the most depressing places in the U.S.A… or maybe it was number one, can’t remember.
3 police officers were killed in just one month this past year, and a couple more during the year in and around the Tampa area/St. Pete area.
A Security Guard was killed by a paranoid authority hating kid in an apartment complex months back, and now a Security Gaurd lets loose a round by mistake probably trying to impress someone. And this isn’t just a depressing St. Pete thing… it’s nation-wide. WTF?
We need to protect ourselves against the criminals of society who will do us harm, but we also need to be vigilant to the dumb@sses out there who like to impress people with their guns, paranoia and stupidity.
Guns don’t kill people, people kill people… and there are a lot of dim-wits out there who don’t have the intention to rob or kill you you.. but can… and wil… l rob you of your life and liberty just the same with their stupidity.

I better get it registered in case a nail goes all the way through the cinder block. Sarcasm. Accidents happen. I pray the young lady has a complete and speedy recovery!

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 6:31pmGODSPLAN. If you’re reducing a young girl who was shot in the head to nothing more than “accidents happen”… you should stay away from anything beyond a hammer and nails.
You should be getting on your knees and praying thanks that it wasn‘t a loved one of your’s GODSPLAN.

This kind of stupid, irresponsible, reckless mistake, is what‘s going to get all citizen’s guns taken away from them, by the Government.
For every careless gun owner, there are hundreds of thousands of extremely careful gun owners, but the Government will never admit to those statistics.
Prayers go out to the young lady. Hope she survives. May God be with her.

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 6:01pmMy heart goes out to her family. Her church family and friends as well. I also feel for the man that accidentally shot her. It was an ACCIDENT. There was no malice. Accidents do happen in all aspects of life whether it was stupidity or not. A life was lost…and that is terrible, but put yourself in the shoes of the person who killed another by accident and treat them like you would want to be treated if the exact same senario happened to you. Hurts thinking about the family and their loss. Hurts thinking about the man that shot her as well.

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 7:21pmYes it was an accident. Yes I do feel badly for what that man must be going through. That does not however absolve him of the legal and just consequences of his irresponsible and dangerous actions. Is there forgiveness for him? Absolutely! That is what Jesus came for. But if this were me we would not be talking about it.
Report Post »My CCW instructor did something with us that shook me to the core and scared the HELL out of me and opened our eyes a bit. He ejected the mag from my weapon and handed me the gun and asked me if it was safe. I said “yes”. He said “pull the trigger”. I did and BANG!!!!! He knew it would fire I did not. I felt as if I were the dumbest person on earth. I knew that had he not done that my son’s may have been were this girl is now. I have NEVER handed a weapon to ANYONE with the mag in and slide FORWARD as a result of that day’s training!!!! btw I did not shoot a gun before getting trained!
My guns scare the hell out of me. This man should have been as afraid of his and this would have been a different story.
I do feel bad for all of these people including him just as I do anyone that has ever killed anyone in a car accident. If I am sober and driving 90mph and hit a young girl or boy on “accident” am I free from having to pay for it? “I did not see him/her” does that change the law? I was driving recklessly and deserve what I would get as does he.

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 1:03am@ FAVORED93 I don’t respond to many posts on here, I read them often during the day but keep quiet and just get pissed most of the time. Most on here just seem to want to bark like a neighborhood dog (like encinom and others). I put emphasis on dog. You are spot on here. I am a new “legal” gun owner (according to the Constitution we all should be legal) and my gun scares the hell out of ME!!! I have never had a problem with other people owning guns – I didn’t want to. With the advent of the last election – that all changed. I felt that if I didn’t start to “exercise my right”…maybe soon there wouldn’t be one anymore. In Indiana, we don’t have to take a class to get a CCWP like the state I am originally from – Michigan. However, I didn’t just go out…buy a piece…and start sporting it. I researched guns, where to maybe take classes and had long conversations with friends and family that carry. I have a funeral director friend that is a part time cop and he gladly taught me how to safely handle a weapon but yet not treat it like a cupcake. I bought a “California friendly” weapon …a Ruger that has more safety devices than most would want. However, since this is my first, I am willing to put up with inconvenience until I am more confident with weapons. I have an 18 month old and a 9 year old at home, I WANT safety. I put the gun on in the morning and it doesn’t come off until bedtime unless I have to be somewhere I can not le

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 1:24amI put the gun on in the morning and it doesn’t come off until bedtime unless I have to be somewhere I can not legal carry ( oh ya, and the Constitution says “it shall not be infringed upon”…I can’t legally go across into Illinois with it at all ) and after it is off my person… I pray I don’t need it quickly because it will take about 4 to 7 seconds to take it out of the lockbox screwed on the side of our bed. Point of all this…..I didn’t and don’t take the responsibility and the RIGHT to own and carry a weapon lightly. I treat my new “leeetle friend” with the utmost of respect and am always conscious of the fact that I have something on my person that if improperly handled, can land someone on a very cold table. There is no room for stupidity. Accidents do happen everyday; idiots in cars, idiots with tools, idiots with guns, idiots like encinom. The problem with this is that our RIGHT is liberally and progressively challenged everyday. No one will ever propose legislation to take cars from us because of stupidity….but they lay in wait for this to happen to make an example that no one should own guns. May G-d be with this family, the man that mishandled the weapon, and with all of us that don’t want our rights to end up in the sewer with encinom.

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 5:49pmI agree – anyone not sure about how to handle, shoot, clean, carry a handgun/riffle should check with local gun clubs, police to inquire about classes on gun safety. For the sake of your loved ones and the people around you.
Also, ask before someone wants to hold your firearm what they’re experience is, and please, check and clear your breach/chamber.

Report Post »With that being said, the guy is a security officer, how can he not pull the slide back to make sure the chamber is empty.
There’s an old saying about a lot of people being killed with an unloaded gun. I use to play cards with a guy who was cleaning a pistol and his friend said don’t point that gun at me.The guy said its not loaded, put it to his head and pulled the trigger. He left two small children,he was only 35 yo.
I suppose it comes from being in the Army when I was young,I tell my grandson all the time always assume the gun is loaded, never point it toward anyone.
If he was a licensed security officer he should lose his license.
