Paterno Hospitalized After Fracturing Pelvis

Paterno Hospitalized

Former Penn State Head Football Coach Joe Paterno’s difficult year has gotten worse, in addition to losing his job following a child sex-abuse scandal involving his longtime assistant Jerry Sandusky and already fighting lung cancer, Paterno was hospitalized after a fall at his home Saturday that fractured his pelvis.

Paterno was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and will not require surgery, according to the Associated Press. The winningest coach in the history of Division I football, Paterno was fired last month in the aftermath of child sex-abuse charges against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, who maintains his innocence. Paterno is not a target of the investigation.

He originally injured his pelvis in August after he was blindsided on the field during preseason practice. It was determined that Paterno should remain in the hospital now to facilitate his regimen of cancer treatments while recovering from the pelvis injury, the AP was told.

The 85-year-old hasn’t spoken publicly since his firing. Paterno was diagnosed with cancer several days after the firing during a follow-up visit to the doctor for a bronchial illness, his family has said.

It good for him to feel pain … perhaps it will remind him of the pain he allowed to exist in life of the children who were victimized because of his failure to see that it was stopped by having his longtime assistant Jerry Sandusky put the “F” in jail

O.K. Mr. know it all. Exactly what did Paterno know and when did he know it? If he knew something and didn’t report it, that would be 180 degrees out of phase with the entire context of his life.

But oh how easy it is to mouth off based on little known information. Assumptions are much more fun and spicy.

Shame on the Board of Trustees who, surely knew of the D.A. investigation stemming from an incident in 1998. Which, by the way was ongoing in 2002 when McQuery reported what he saw, AFTER the fact to Paterno who did EXACTLY what he should have……report it to his superiors. They in turn decided, for what is yet an unknown reason, to NOT report it to the D.A. who was, AT THAT TIME, still had an open investigation from the 1998 incident.
Had Paterno reported directly to the police, he would have been subordinating the authority of everyone above him.
Shame on the trustees for not even calling Paterno before them to get his side of what he knew and when and why he did or didn’t do what he did. Shame on the Trustees for taking the gutless way out and deflect ALL attention on the ONE person who actually did what he should have done. Also the most high profile person at PSU.
And shame on the media and all the holier than thou people who so quickly cast blame without knowing even half the facts.
This whole thing goes WAY beyond Joe Paterno. The Trustees, top Administration officials, and the D.A. who never pressed any charges and DROPPED the investigation in 2005.

      Joeb1225…..
I agree with what you say, as it is factual. However, if Joe had been a man of complete integrity, he would have met with the school administration, told what he knew, demanded that they report it to police, and let the chips fall where they may.

Remember…that at that time, Joe had not eclipsed Eddie Robinson’s record for career wins. As well, Joe had to know of the on-going investigation of Sandusky from 1998, and knew he was still hanging around the PS facilities. The football fraternity is small, really, and word had to have been out of Sandusky’s antics. How often have you ran into someone in another state, far from home, who grew up in or knew someone from your hometown?

Joe had to know, and Joe had to go.

To say JoePa wasn’t aware what was going on is delusional. No one sneezed in the athletic department without his approval.

It is amazing to me how ignorant the majority of Americans are and how happy they are to be so. Blaze readers should know better. Today news broke in Central PA that Mike McQueary, the main source for grand jury testimony, has changed his story on several different occasions about what he witnessed. The reason this is important is because his testimony conflicted with that of three other witnesses- Curley, Schultz and Paterno. Curley and Schultz were both charged with perjury and failure to report charges based, as nearly as I can tell, solely on McQueary’s testimony. In efffect, this means there was no cover-up. Of course, the national media, The Blaze included, did not fall all over itself to breathlessly and endlessly report this. It apperently didn’t fit the agenda of character assassination and scandal-mongering.

Yeah, many of these comments say a whole lot more (negatively) about the posters that it does about Paterno.

I’m not a Broncos fn (Go, Pack!), but I am cheering for Tebow just because it is so refreshing to see someone not afraid to take the ridicule that comes with openly praising God these days – and because it really frustrates those who want to see him lose because they can’t stand to see someone who is willing to endure their criticism and praise God anyway.

GO PACK!!! Erik Walden was giving God the glory today when he recovered the Raider fumble for a Packers TD. Did anyone notice that besides me? It’s great that TT loves the LORD, but let’s remember that many other players are also God fearing men. Joe Paterno? Shallow Catholic who implored Penn State fans to “pray a little bit” for Sandusky’s victims. Wonder if Joe bothered to pray at all.

Yep I agree. Slightly deeper though, Your words highlight the need to mimic his action in our own lives. America is in trouble because Christians have given control of the wheel to secularists . God is speaking to us but we are refusing to listen. The answer to America is revival and not the “headed fer the big white tent, going to meetin, got me a good feelin’ ” type either. America needs people willing to be bold in Jesus name and love those in the ditch. You know, genuine Christianity.

I can’t feel sorry for him that he was fired. He should have been indicted.

The people who knew about what Sandusky was doing and who did not call someone other than the mall cops should be sued from now on by everyone of those kids. Its the only way to make this up in any way to those boys and even that doesn’t erase what happened to them.

Its a slap on the face when people want tp defend Paterno, being a good football coach or being old or sick doesn’t necessarily make you a decent person nor does it excuse the inexcusable.

The mainstream media and the Penn State haters jumped at this opportunity to sack Joe Paterno, and they got their wish. Does anyone living in reality really think that “going to the police” = “the police doing their job”? We are all in trouble if accusations can cause us to lose our jobs and our reputations. The PA Attorney General spokesperson said that they were concerned that the coorperating witness was fired because of giving truthful testimony. Joe Paterno is a good man with a lifetime of good deeds behind him and I am tired of the obnoxius comments equating him with the molestor. He is also known to be conservative-another reason he was targeted by the national media. I think I will go send him flowers now, and send a prayer for his full and complete recovery.

I‘ll just guess that they didn’t have their facts right and pulled it, so they can gather their facts before they publish a story that is not factual.

That could be one reason if not many others. I would hope they’re not trying be PC.
