SYDNEY (AP) — A man who drank six bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitizer while being treated in an Australian hospital for alcoholism has sparked calls for the anti-bacterial gels to be better secured.
Doctors said in a letter published Sunday in the Medical Journal of Australia that they were stunned to discover the man had downed six 375-milliliter (12.7-ounce) bottles of hand sanitizer, giving him a blood-alcohol concentration more than five times higher than the legal limit for driving in Australia.
Dr. Michael Oldmeadow at The Alfred hospital in Melbourne city says the man is lucky to have survived.
Oldmeadow and three colleagues say in the letter that at least one U.S. hospital has introduced non-removable dispensers in all its wards.

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 9:41amYeah, some of that stuff smells like tequila. I used it at work, (as a hand sanitizer of course), once and was challenged…I said no it‘s this hand sanitizer that I’m using…they told me not to use it anymore and find a product that didn’t smell like tequila.
Well darn, what about those hippies waring that marijuana smelling callogne?? LOL

Congress is drunk on Anti-American spooky dude Soros money. This amounts to corruption!
Anything that involves activity from Congress to deny their ability to Support and Defend the Constitution of the United States is treason.
Congress, the White House, MSM, name the names out loud, help me out hear folks, anyone who accepts soroS’s money, Bill, Hillary, George Bush Jr. Sr., John McCain, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, et al. are all guilty of treason.
No one is held accountable because both parties are guilty. There is no one in Congress calling out this treason…Interesting?
Treason is treason. Punishable by death!
The earth is round, whether you believe it or not!

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 12:00amIt is possible (it is sometimes 40% [80 proof]) but it not only has to taste like well, hand-sanitizer, but it’s got to not only give one a lousy buzz but a horrific hangover! I’ve dealt w/ alcoholics of this caliber & they will do anything … it is an absolute obsession …

Posted on June 19, 2011 at 11:19pmMy wife is an alcoholic. She has been to one of the best rehab hospitals in the country….twice..they removed the hand sanitizer from the entire hospital for this very reason. There are none alcohol based ones available. Let me tell you, alcoholism is a terrible disease. It destroys everything it touches if the alcoholic cannot find sobriety. I’m dealing with this right now…looks like divorce number 3 on the horizon.

Posted on June 19, 2011 at 11:08pmYea, I saw this kind of behavior in the Navy. Guys would take dozens of bottles of mouth wash on our deployments because they had alcohol in them. We had to lock up our supplies of denatured alcohol and acetone in our shop because people would steal it to drink.

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 3:11amdown with the FDA. Its just another portion of the government bureaucracy. This is the same agency that came u with the idea of putting large amounts of acetaminophen in narcotic prescription pain killers, thinking it would prevent drug over doses. guess what? thousands of people die every year from acetaminophen overdoes because people who abuse prescription drugs dont care that there are poisonous amounts of acetaminophen in these drugs….but on the financial side of things the FDA is a major reason why prescription drugs are so expensive in this country…regulations including an average of 7-10 years of mandatory drug trials are a major reason for this…

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 8:52amIt is not easy being an alcoholic in Australia. When I was living there, I came to realize they are far behind in the whole treatment direction of addicts/alcoholics. Considering the PM was caught on video doing beer bongs in a hotel probably tells the tale. To tell a quick story about how socialistic medicine causes people to not use their heads.
Report Post »While I was there, I Was researching if there was a market for 3/4 recovery houses in the country. There was certainly enough meetings, which reflected enough addict/alcoholics to support the homes. I talked to a few people about it, one who has done a great deal of service work, and she assured me, there is o way it was possible in their country. Their government NEVER gives money for those kind of places, she has tried to push for funding for a group home I guess. Anyways, I explained to her, a 3/4 house is self sustaining and requires no government funding. She was hearing it, as were the others. It was very discouraging to me. I couldn’t figure out why they seemed so opposed to the idea. What I didn’t understand then but do now is this. They can’t imagine ANYTHING happening unless the Government does it. They have become so dependent on the government that the idea to think outside the box is completely foreign to them. People do not understand just how your people lose their innovation and inhibitions when being dependent upon the government.
I will also tell you this, socialized medicine there reminds me of the

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 11:12amSadly a situation that could be avoided if groups like the CDC, FDA and analogous groups throughout the world moved beyond their bias in favor of alcohol sanitizers. There are better and safer alternatives like 4Hour Protection and MicroArmor, both of which are natural based products and equally if not more effective than alcohol based products. Another example of big company money using the government to create barriers to entry for companies with competing products that are superior.
