Paul Ryan: Ask the Greeks How Not Dealing With Your Debt Works Out

Paul Ryan Says if We Dont Fix Debt Problem Could End Up Like the GreeksFollowing in step with his Republican Senate Budget Committee counterpart Sen. Jeff Sessions, House Republican Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan has called out the gimmicks in President Obama’s FY 2013 budget released Monday.

On CNBC’s Kudlow Report on Tuesday, the Wisconsin Republican did not have sweet things to say about President Obama and his economic advisors idea of spending cuts claimed to be in their budget, which Rep. Ryan calls “fundamentally unserious.”

“This is really more of a campaign document than a credible fiscal solution to our big budget problems,” Rep.Ryan said Tuesday. “The President is claiming that this is a $4 trillion deficit reduction package; but Larry when you strip out all the accounting tricks and all the budget gimmicks, he’s increasing spending by 1.5 trillion and increasing taxes by 1.9 trillion for a measly $400 billion of deficit reduction over a 10-year period, where he proposes to spend $47 trillion.”

Rep. Ryan said that the President has showed a lack of leadership in presenting a third straight budget that does not make a serious attempt to lower the national debt.

“Every time you don’t do something to fix this problem, it just gets that much worse. Ask the Greeks,” said Rep. Ryan

Ryan also confronted President Obama’s acting OMB Director Jeffrey Zients Wednesday, calling out the President’s broken promise to halve the deficit by the end of his first term.

“We’ve heard a lot of excuses from this administration for why the president broke his promise. But what we haven’t heard is any semblance of accountability,” The Hill reports Ryan told Zients at a hearing Wednesday Morning.

House Republicans argue that the Obama budget only cuts the deficit by $400 billion over 10 years, compared to the $4 trillion in deficit reduction the administration claims. The Hill reports that by House GOP measurements, the budget plan has $1.5 trillion in spending increases and $1.9 trillion in tax increases.

In the double speak of Washington, “increasing spending at a lower rate” means the same thing as a “cut” to these fools. And not spending money on something “new unnamed project” also represents a “cut” to these fools. Both parties are guilty. One party has us going over the cliff at 100 mph and the other more fiscally responsible party has us going over the cliff at 80 mph. Either way, it‘s a long way down and we’re dead. What don’t they understand about “stop!“ ”Reduce” the actual outflow. “Cut the size and scope” of the federal government. “Lay off” government employees. etc., etc., etc.

Ronald Reagan’s words of decades ago are definitely still appropriate: “The federal government isn’t the solution to our problems. It is the problem.”

A better question for Ryan to ask is, especially of the rich, would be something like this: How is not paying your fair share of taxes working out for you?

As disappointed as I am in the republicans, the democrats are worse. But you’re absolutely right that we need a lot more people like Paul Ryan.

My two biggest complaints about Bush were:

      1) 20% of his budget was borrowed and he increased our debt by 4 trillion over 8 years
      2) the so called “patriot” act that violates the bill of rights.

So you can guess how I feel about Obama’s spending while in office and the NDAA. Whether you are left, right or middle most Americans agree on the following two principles:

      1) The government should not spend more than it takes in and
      2) A government does not have the right to detain it’s own citizens indefinitely without due process.

The first one is common sense and it‘s going to lead to a far worse financial situation than we’ve ever seen in my lifetime and one that will make the great depression look good in comparison. The second is fundamental to human rights. This government has grossly violated the first and claims it has the right to violate the second.

These are not small issues. These issues are fundamentally essential to the health of our republic and I don’t understand how anyone, left, right or middle could support an administration that has attacked our future and freedoms the way this one has.

You know Obama should have already been impeached.. but none of you have done anything.. except let him do whatever he wants. So.. you Republican Congressman are part of the problem. Its not just this administration its most all of you! We voted and brought you enough new congressman and what happened to them.. well half of them were corrupted. Treason is the reason to impeach, just how much treason does it take for you to get it. Now is the time to come together and fight.. Lord help us all!

Ryan is the real deal and not very many folks pay attention to him anymore after Obama publicly humiliated him at the White House budget meeting after Ryan released his plan. Too bad, because he’s an economist and has a firm grasp on all things financial. He also had the guts to say that he does not think he’s qualified to be running for any office other than the one he holds now.

When we fire the Marxist heathen in November and get control of both houses we’ll be able to avoid a depression, maybe. There are republicans who call themselves ‘conservatives’ who are bankrupting us with insane spending,we get rid of them as well and replace them with people who understand the constitution and we’ll have a chance of avoiding the depression.

If the Marxist heathen is re-installed a depression is guaranteed and America is over as you know it,kiss all your money goodbye along with your liberty and freedom from government.

What if the banks would actually forgive some of the debt? The only way out is usually pay for it or ask for the loan to be forgiven. I‘m sure that’s a radical idea but what if…? Naive I’m sure but put greed aside for the betterment of the country? Probably won’t happen. Waste of a comment.

Forgiving the debt would lower the return on investment of millions of people counting on the income as retirement income college expenses or something else that will not now happen. Only state workers with assured rates of return guaranteed by the government wont be affected with respect to retirement but since they pay taxes, they will also be hit with the aftermath. The only good thing about such a scenario would be that the precedent would make it very unlikely that the government would ever get borrowed money to operate on for a very long time.

The correct thing for banks to do is to not loan money to people who cannot afford the loan and not take government bailouts. Your other responder is correct, we have money invested in IRAs and other investments in those banks. Your solution is akin to saying to the bank I want to extend my mortgage to help irresponsible people pay for things they should not have bought, to include the Democrat constituency

Forgive the debt? Sounds like a very liberal idea.

Sure, let‘s teach people that they don’t need to be responsible for anything at all. It will just be forgiven later. This is why our country is so screwed up.

Rep Ryan must be on a “Truth Team”. White House, be on notice, your own actions are what people don’t like. People DON’T HAVE to make anything up. Your own words will bury you. I can see the ads now and Carney “explaining” “Well he really meant this,…We didn’t know that” In fact there are a lot of things this administration doesn’t know for being “the smartest guy in the room”. The most egregious errors are foreign policy in the middle east and the economy. I listed foreign policy first as it is really hard to recover from death and the effects of an atomic weapon. To forestall comments that Iran currently doesn’t have ICBM capability AT THIS MOMENT, let me remind you they did not have nuclear capability or materials 10 years either, but have referred to us as the Great Satan since the time of the Carter Administration (another wonder boy). Also, only a small percentage of container ships are searched in the US and I would bet not any are searched at the point of origin.

A nice surprise would be to suspend his campaign and get out of Santorum’s way. Probably not — the guy is a hostage to his own ego. Newt has now been last (or a no-show) in 5 races (Nevada, Missouri, Colorado, Minnesota, Maine) — the 5 most recent contests. Now how will he do in Arizona and Michigan? Last again, most likely.

The bailout is basically backwards. Private individuals who invested in Greece should get back their principal, but not their interest. Banks should get 0. It is immoral and should be unlawful to lend money at interest for people to pay for basic food and necessities with no prospect of ever paying it back. If you want to give the poor money, then give it. Do not lend at usurious interest and expect the World Back, Germany, France, and the US to give you a profit! Investments that are both unwise and immoral should fail; better banks and bankers will replace the greedy morons who lent to Greece.
