Paul Ryan Responds to Calls for Him to Run for President

Sure, Paul Ryan appeared on the cable shows this morning to talk about his Medicare plan being demonized by Democrats. And sure he revealed that he holds no hard feelings toward Newt Gingrich for the former House Speaker’s blasting of the Ryan plan. But really what people are wanting to know is, will he run for President?
The answer? Well, I don’t want to be a conspiracy theorist, but he did seem to leave the door open.
“No, I have no plans to do that,“ he told ”Fox and Friends” with an aw-shucks look on his face. But in a political landscape where Chris Christie can deny he‘s running multiple times and people still wonder if he’ll throw his hat in the ring, a “no plans to do that” is a wide open door.
Watch Ryan’s comments on Medicare, Newt, and running for president below. His answer to 2012 starts at about 5:40.

Hold back as long as possible while filling the field with as many candidates as possible. Keep them guessing until the last minute then go for it.

Only one possibility exists. The one person who can reliably walk in the shadow of Ronald Reagan and carry the Conservative banner is Sarah Palin. When she announces her candidacy, she will lead in the polls for the remainder of the 2012 election cycle and will carry more than 45 states in the November election. You can take that to the bank.

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 1:26pmHis plan was based upon real numbers and facts. Either make serious cuts to entitlement programs or go broke. Plain and simple. Report Post »Locked
Posted on May 25, 2011 at 1:38pmHis plan was based off number for sure, but not numbers based in reality. In the future it suggested there would be 0% unemployment… zero? Most economics agree that 3.5-5% is healthy in an economy, otherwise there aren’t enough workers for jobs. And he told half the truth – entitlements MUST be cut, but without raising taxes it would be impossible to balance the budget without completely ostracizing his base… which is exactly what happened. Once senior citizens heard that their healthcare costs would go UP and their social security checks would go DOWN (even when the changes were only technically for those 55 and under), they freaked, Ryan’s fellow GOP members freaked, and they slashed his plan to ribbons.

But we all need to know is that Progressivism started in the Republican party with Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt and his bull moose party in the late 19th Century. Progressives have seen a larger majority in the Democrat Party though, since they hide behind the “Liberal” label.
It was Woodrow Wilson that re-segregated America started with the Armed Forces During WWI and after that it seeped into American Culture.

I don’t really believe that this is any kind of attempt to obscure Dr. Paul. There may be a feeling that the current field is weak. Like Hannity, I don’t buy it. I think we have several viable candidates available now or coming in the near future. I consider Dr. Paul among those viable candidates. If he chooses his running mate correctly, he could defeat Obama/Biden.
I realize that you are a fervent Paul supporter, and that’s fine. My biggest concern is that we get a candidate that can win. If it’s Dr. Paul, great. If it’s someone else, great. If it’s a loser, like Gingrich, then bend over and kiss your rear good-bye because there won’t be another chance in 2016. (I don’t mean to pick on Gingrich, there’s several other losers out there.)

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 8:37pmSinista, I agree with you 100% and the American people as well as the people on this website need to drop the un-electability argument. It is weak nor does it refer to a single issue on which running representative stands for. If you want to continue to say someone is un-electable please offer real arguments as to why. Dr. Paul might not be the guy for you, but guess what Obama was the farthest ideal for my personal choice of a Presidential candidate and he won. The only we are going to be able to have a shot at removing the current administration is to be able to have the exact same debates, here in these forums, as we expect those running to have on the National platform and we need as many of them as possible. So far Dr. Paul has many controversial ideas, but he also has a great magnitude of ideas and possible solutions that are all based on how he perceives the principles of the Constitution were originally put in place for. Now we might not all agree on many topics, but we need a candidate that resembles the best ideas of all of us and Dr. Paul has quite a few. So if you don’t like him fine, but understand that he has really good ideas and make sure the guy you back at least ad hearse to the understanding that the Fed is crippling this country and every day our liberties are being stripped away from us. We must be the debate we expect to see in the primaries.

You say: If America doesn’t fix Medicare it will have a debt crises down the road. Mr. Ryan, open your eyes. America already has a debt problem!… and it wasn’t caused by Medicare or Social Security. America has a debt problem because two unpaid wars were started while taxes were actually cut. Never before in America’s history has that happened. Where’s the sense in fighting multiple wars while lowering taxes at the same time? It increases the debt big time.
Added to the budget wows are hundreds of billions of dollars given as tax cuts to wealthy individuals and corporations. These tax cuts were also unpaid for. Over the next couple of decades the unpaid for Bush tax cuts, which you want to continue, will balloon into a multi-trillion dollar debt problem that dwarfs any budget problems Medicare and Social Security may have.
Topping off the current American budget problems is the unpaid for George Bush Medicare Prescription Drug Plan that makes it illegal for Medicare to bargain for reduced drug prices. This Drug company subsidy adds hundreds of billions of dollars annually to the debt.
Mr. Ryan, your priorities are misplaced. Why are you going after average middle class American workers who’ve paid into Medicare and Social Security all of their working lives? Today‘s seniors and tomorrow’s future seniors are entitled, yes

Compare that to the overhead of private insurance companies at 20 – 30%. Medicare is the most successful government program in history and it is working as it should.
