Paul Ryan Says Obama Will Run a ‘Divisive Campaign’ Because He Can‘t Run on His ’Miserable Record’

Paul Ryan Slams Obamas Record and State of the Union Address

While appearing on Fox News Sunday, the morning of his forty-second birthday, Republican House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan gave scathing remarks of President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address last Tuesday, and what the President will have to run on in 2012:

“The irony of this is the President’s policies do the exact opposite.  We basically have this; the President can’t run on his record, it’s a miserable record. He is not going to change his tune and moderate like say Bill Clinton did in 1996, because he’s really stuck with his ideology so he has no choice but to divide. So he is going to run a very divisive campaign for political gain and he has this concept of fairness and equality where he uses the kind of rhetoric we use, but the policies he’s producing will result in crony capitalism, will result in more power in the government to supervise our lives, to give us a stagnant economy where the rich and the powerful are the ones who are picking it. So what I’m trying to say is he is giving us a future of debt, doubt, and decline.”

Rep. Ryan told host Chris Wallace that he doesn‘t expect the President to follow through on introducing the ’Buffet Rule’ to tax millionaires at a rate of 30 percent, a rule which Rep. Ryan would not agree is “fair” on the “simplest basis.”

“If you oversimplify you could probably make that case,” said Rep. Ryan. “I can get into the tax data, I can get into the fact that the effective tax rates that people pay at the higher end are still higher than everybody else, but lets just look at the math. All these tax increases that the President’s talking about, they only cover eight percent of his proposed spending increases.”

“What we have learned from the President time and again is that he is going to put some kind of a poll-tested line in the State of the Union address and have no follow up whatsoever,” the Wisconsin Republican went on to say.

“We have learned already that the President, who’s had three years to try and propose real solutions to fix our fiscal crisis, is ducking it,” Rep. Ryan said. “He hasn’t put a plan on the table yet. He formed commissions and super committees, so he sort of outsourced the leadership only to decry their results. So, we are not getting the leadership we need from the White House at a time when we need it the most.”

Rep. Ryan noted that it appears that reducing the debt is off the table for 2012, as it has been 1,005 days since the Senate last passed a budget. The Wisconsin Republican said it is frustrating because there is am emerging bipartisan consensus about tax reform to close loopholes and lower rates, as well as Medicare reform, “but the President and his party leaders are out on the left, standing on the sidelines looking in.”

“So what we clearly need is a new White House, and a new Senate,” said Rep. Paul. “And then we can realize, this emerging bipartisan consensus on how to fix these problems.”

Fox News notes that the budget passed by the GOP last year called for $5.8 trillion in spending cuts by 2021, eliminating $800 billion in tax increases by repealing President Obama’s health care plan, eliminating deductions on tax returns while setting a top tax rate both for individuals and businesses of 25 percent and reforming entitlements like Medicare.  It passed the GOP-led House, but died in the Democratic-led Senate.

“I and my members of the Budget Committee will write this budget in March and then we’re going to bring it to the floor. We think we owe the country actual solutions based upon our founding principles to get this country on the right track,” Rep.Ryan said.

While Rep. Ryan was stern in his criticism of the President throughout the interview, things closed on a happier note. Mediaite reports that Rep. Ryan was surprised with a large white sheet cake frosted with a massive green dollar sign at the interviews end. Unfortunately, the thankful Congressman noted that “I don’t eat sweets.”

    Ypou gotta have a memory to have a record. On that cheery note- just a couple questions, Anybody hear a plausible reason for the stock market going up? Unemployment going down? Foreclosures not in the news? Deficit? Debt? Afganistan? Egypt? Straits of Howmuz? High Gas Prices? Increased food costs? Why- all of the sudeden Europe’s financails are NOT an issue? OWS??Whats the word? Kids will be kids! All the “Green” compamnies going tango uniform AFTER breing stimulated? CEICKETS-ALL I HEAR ARE CRICKETS!!

Paul Ryan is so right and his state, Wisconsin, was the albatross that helped create OWS. The original occupiers were teachers that didn’t want to have to pay for their retirement or healthcare. Oblamer and his operatives …..made OWS what it is today.

      You are right – Wisconsin was/is ground zero. Teachers were there at the start of this conflict, but it was then turned over to outside forces – namely unions from out of state – who are continuing in our state capital today. I would take it one step further by saying that this union driven OWS, that has the democrats backing, will become the ‘problem’ that Obama needs come election time to declare Marshall law. You can see that OWS is ramping up the violence – what will happen as the election gets closer??

    I hope people realize how they are being manipulated by the press and bloggers…Some of us see the threads on the fastball, others do not.

    I look at it logically…I would prefer Rick Santorum’s overall record by far….Ron Paul, I love his constitutional perspective, but his is absolutely off on the military role, and I am a disabled retired Marine here talking (Big Allen West fan)….Onto the frontrunners…I WILL NOT support Romney due to his positions on gun rights, climate farce, abortion, health care, governmental programs, to name a few…
    Leaving us with the bastard of the media and Glenn, Newt. Newt is a hand grenade we need to throw, you honestly think i trust anyone in the media, including Beck? I am a retired history teacher who has read more books then Beck, hands down… Think Newt is a progressive? He is not..sorry Beck people.       Granted the four republicans still running = Obumbler Lite. But if they can take back the White House and the Senate we at least have a chance to reverse some of this administrations policies. Change the makeup of the NLRB, do away with the Czars and some of the cainet positions that have become ways to bypass congress and make their own laws.
      They may not be true conservatives but thay have to be better than what we have now.
      Anybody but Obumbler.

    I think miserable record is too mild for the reality of the situation. I challenge Mr. Ryan to try living in a fifth wheel with another adult & a ten year old child & subsist on Top Ramen with no income for a month. I won’t insist he do so with a life threatening illness as well, but he has to do without drapes & live at the sufferance of friends with an open sewer pit to really start to experience the level to which some of us have fallen as a direct result of Obama’s new policies & the actions of the Congress, including himself. If he isn’t endorsing Santorum, then as far as I am concerned he is playing games & sitting on the fence. Put your budget where your mouth is, jerk. Obama’s miserable record??? He hasn‘t done all of this by himself because he can’t. There are currently Congressional members with their fingers in the foreclosures market & other direct manipulations going on because of insider trading & slush funds & God only knows what else. Unless this guy is living in his office & not taking a paycheck during this crisis, he doesn’t have any credibility. He isn’t running, he isn’t in the running & he is doing nothing to help this campaign in any real sense of the notion. Either get behind a candidate or shut up because it is not about you & We The People are tired of being patronized to our own detriment. Get real, Mr. Ryan & do it quickly or you may be facing unemployment in the near future as the people of this nation are fed up with useless Feds.

      Does anyone else notice molly guy’s picture looks like and image of a lemon, with the hint of a big, and i mean big, cameltoe in the middle….I laughed for 15 minutes straight, first his comments, then when i saw his pictures for his name…My wife laughed till she cried when she saw it too…then showed it to my 15 year old son, he even saw the similarities…gotta laugh guys….gotta laugh
