Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan gave a rousing address at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, saying time is running out to save America from economic ruin. That’s the bad news, he says. The good news is, he and Mitt Romney are up to the challenge and ready to lead.
Of course, he had to wait for the applause to die down first, which lasted for a considerable amount of time after his introduction. But the crowd would spend a lot more time on their feet before Ryan was done.
“I accept the calling of my generation to give our children the America that was given to us, with opportunity for the young and security for the old – and I know that we are ready,” Ryan began. “Our nominee is sure ready. His whole life prepared him for this moment – to meet serious challenges in a serious way, without excuses and idle words. After four years of getting a run-around, America needs a turnaround, and the man for the job is Governor Mitt Romney.”
“I’m a newcomer to this campaign so let me share a first impression, I have never seen a POTUS so silent about their record and so desperate to keep their power. They’ve run out of ideas,” he added.
The vice presidential candidate also told a story about a GM plant in Wisconsin that President Obama promised would be around for another “100 years” if they elected him. Ryan said the plant didn’t last another year, saying another Obama term would not be any different than the last four years.
Watch part one of Ryan’s speech at the RNC here:
Ryan broke the pattern of most of the RNC speakers so far and attacked President Obama more directly in his speech, blasting the president’s policies like the stimulus and Obamacare.
“Obamacare comes to more than two thousand pages of rules, mandates, taxes, fees, and fines that have no place in a free country,” Ryan said, prompting applause. “The president has declared that the debate over government-controlled health care is over. That will come as news to the millions of Americans who will elect Mitt Romney so we can repeal Obamacare.”
He also said the Obama campaign is “surviving on slogans” and trying to sail on “yesterday’s wind.”
Earlier in the speech Ryan joked that Obama was throwing away money with all of his attack ads because the American people aren‘t buying what he’s selling, but added that Obama is “pretty experienced at” throwing away money.
“What is missing is leadership in the White House,” Ryan added. “And the story that Barack Obama does sell, shifting blame to the previous administration is getting old… Isn’t it about time he assumed responsibility?”
While he says the Obama administration is “out of ideas,” Ryan argued that he and Romney can start solving the nation’s economic problems with “the goal of generating 12 million new jobs over the next four years.”
“My Dad used to say to me: ‘Son. You have a choice: You can be part of the problem, or you can be part of the solution.’ The present administration has made its choices. And Mitt Romney and I have made ours: Before the math and the momentum overwhelm us all, we are going to solve this nation’s economic problems,” he said. “And I’m going to level with you, we don’t have that much time. But if we are serious, and smart, and we lead, we can do this.”
Ryan told his audience that Obama‘s vision for America isn’t the right one, and that college graduates shouldn’t be forced to live in their “childhood bedrooms” staring at “fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life.”
Of Romney, Ryan said, “he helped start business and turn failing ones around, and by the way, being successful in business, that’s a good thing,” resulting in a standing ovation.
Ryan told his audience that the road ahead would be a tough one, but assured millions of Americans watching that the country can still be turned around.
“The right that makes all the difference now is the right to choose our own leaders. You are entitled to the clearest possible choice because the time for choosing is drawing near. So here is our pledge,” Ryan said. “We will not duck the tough issues – we will lead. We will not spend four years blaming others – we will take responsibility. We will not try to replace our founding principles, we will reapply our founding principles. The work ahead will be hard. These times demand the best of us – all of us, but we can do this. Together, we can do this.”
“Let’s come together for the sake of our country,” he concluded. “Let’s get this done.”
With his final words, the crowd erupted. One PBS announcer said it was the loudest he had heard the GOP convention so far.
Buzzfeed reporter Zeke Miller tweeted Wednesday night: “@PaulRyanVP breaks last night’s Tweets-per-minute peak set by @AnnDRomney. Nearing 6,500 TPM when discussing his faith.”

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 1:24pmThat GM plant cut back production in late 2008 and closed its doors in April 2009. The Democrat talking point that the plant closed in December 2008 is simply untrue. It IS true, however, that candidate Obama twice made statements he would take actions to keep that plant open. Whether he should have, or not, is a different question. Candidate Obama certainly tried to buy their votes with his fairytale.

As for none of GMs retooled plants are in the US, take a gander at these copy/paste statements:
“Retooling is beginning to reshape GM Arlington Texas plant.”
“General Motors Co. will halt production at its Detroit Hamtramck Assembly plant, where it builds the extended range Chevrolet Volt, for four weeks for retooling starting in mid-September, sources said Monday.
From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120828/AUTO0103/208280309#ixzz250EboBXd”
“On Thursday, General Motors announced that it would spend $220 million equipping plants in Lordstown and Parma, Ohio, to build the next generation of the Chevrolet Cruze.”

I love how you and Obloma say GM was such a success when it is the total opposite. The GM bailout helped nobody but the Unions to keep their bloated pensions. The stock holders are taking it up the backside, while the unions get loaded. The government still 26% of GM, and would needs stocks to be at $53 a share to even break even. It is known that GM’s biggest customer is the government, so how can they be making any money. To make things worse projects say GM will need a second bail out in the near future.

I did claim that that I loved the Camaro SS and I did claim that the government saved the US auto industry (although I know that GM is now hurting) and in doing so likely saved a million jobs – a combination of both direct and indirect jobs. Bush started the auto bailout and then Obama added more billions into Detroit. Times are tough no doubt but I guarantee that the US auto industry will be thriving and healthy again.

Bush did fine from 2000 till 2006???? This is the period in which Bush ran up trillions of dollars of debt!! UNFUNDED war in Afghanistan!! UNFUNDED war in Iraq! UNFUNDED Midicare Part-D! AND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN US HISTORY TAXES WERE LOWERED DURING A WAR, AND NOT JUST ONE WAR BUT TWO! Who in their right mind would lower taxes when we have two ground wars going on in the Middle East? Lowering taxes during two wars is just plain idiotic!!
Lie #4) Fact: Though Paul Ryan accused President Obama of taking $716 billion out of Medicare, the fact is that that amount was SAVINGS IN MEDICARE REIMBURSMENT RATES (which, incidentally,THEY SAVE Medicare recipients OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS, too) and Ryan himself embraced these savings in his budget plan.

Elections should be about competing based on your record in the past and your vision for the future, not competing to see who can get away with the most lies and distortions without voters noticing or bother to care. Both parties should hold themselves to that standard. Republicans should be ashamed that there was even one misrepresentation in Ryan’s speech but sadly, there were many.

You are right about the chevy Volt, it is not a good car for the money. I never said the volt was any good. If you want to purchase a new electric car now the one to buy is a TESLA. My brother has one on order and should be getting it soon. I test drove it about a month ago and the car is AWESOME!
You claim that: “And it takes power to charge the battery and in case you didn’t know our power comes from Coal.” Thanks for reminding me. However, I have a Ph.D. in geology so yes, I have heard of coal, and I seem to recall that burning coal produces heat which then boils water which then spins turbines which then produces electricity.
Please tell me the name of just one coal mine that Obama forced to close! Just one! I think you mean that a couple of coal POWER PLANTS may close down, NOT COAL MINES. I personally know of a couple of very OLD coal-fired power plants in the Chicago area that will be shutting down, however, those two were going to shut operations anyway due to numerous facility problems due to their age and NOT due to any EPA regulations.

Report Post »@ BDT46 — LOL; If you can’t comprehend that the commitment to fully close the Janesville GM facility was finalized in October 2008, while bush was president, not obama, then forget about it. Once again, the majority of people and operations were ousted in October 2008, they kept a skeleton crew to avoid being sued in that they had some signed contracts to complete several light trucks before the facility closed entirely. Just because the skeleton crew did not vacate the GM facility until Obama was president does not mean that he initiated the closing, that was done, once again, during the Bush presidency.
>>”you sit there and say Bush did this and Bush did that. yet you refuse to acknowledge the facts but go again with half truths.” The reason I said that Bush did this and/or that is because he did. It is you that refuses to acknowledge the facts. The facts are laid out right there in front of you in my posts. If you dont believe me, please corroborate them yourself and you will see that I am not lying.
>>“obama has raised the debt more then all other presidents combined”. That is just plain not correct. Again, please check sources and report the truth.
>>”yes Bush had no choice in raising the debt cieling, 9/11 changed his Presidentcy forever.” Yes, 9/11 not only changed his presidency, but changed the world

That’ll sure teach em a lesson huh?
At some point you‘re going to have to realize the party won’t change by you not participating.
You‘re dealing with an established and reinforced political machine that doesn’t want to relinquish power. It’s not going to be done in one election cycle. This is a generational effort and the best possible candidate won’t always get the nomination, at least not at this point.
You must realize the current administration is infinately more destuctive to freedom and fiscal sanity than Romney/Ryan could ever be.
Now, can we start by getting Obama out of office, increasing conservatives in the house and taking back the senate? It requires your participation……………..

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 12:24am@Professor, I stand corrected, you are indeed right about Ford not needing any financial help. And the new ford Mustang’s are also a sweet ride! GM profits have tanked this last quarter due to the worldwide recession, however I guarantee you that this will change once the worldwide economy starts revving up a bit. GM‘s retooled plant’s are making some really nice vehicles so its just a matter of time (perhaps another quarter or two?) before profits begin surging again!
Report Post »therealconservative
Posted on August 30, 2012 at 12:38am@butt the phoney
GM‘s retooled plant’s are not in the US. Their only profit has been because the government is buying cars and what did they do with that profit, buy Fiat and build more plants in China, instead of paying the taxpayers back.
Report Post »Get off your butt and join the Marines
Posted on August 30, 2012 at 12:49am@TRC – Yes, I see that you can cut and paste as well. Thats a large step forward for you. Maybe someday you will be able to format some text as well but then again, that might be too advanced. I never said that I knew those specs off the top of my head! Its just a really great vehicle and the engine sounds great for an American made upper mid-level car. And as far as the comment about GM cars not all being made in America, that is partially true, however in the new world economy it makes sense to build them where they are going to be sold, it just makes ‘money-sense’. However, the Camaro’s are all built tough right here in good old Motown, the motor city! Most of the GM cars built in China or Europe are completely different models then what is marketed in America.
