Pelosi: Obamacare Will Be Upheld ‘Because I Know the Constitution’

WASHINGTON (AP/The Blaze) — Top congressional Democrat Nancy Pelosi said Thursday she was confident that US President Barack Obama’s health care reform would be upheld by the Supreme Court, saying the law’s constitutionality was “ironclad.”

A decision from the high court is due in June, and legal experts have been scrupulously studying just how the nine justices might rule on one of the most important cases in decades.

“Six-three,” Pelosi, the Democratic leader in the House of Representatives, told reporters, referring to her prediction of how the justices will vote in favor of upholding Obama’s signature legislative achievement.

“I know the Constitution,” she elaborated. “The bill is ironclad. Nobody was frivolous with the Constitution and the health of the American people in writing the bill.”

“That’s where my confidence springs from: the merits of the bill and the nature of the Constitution,” she added. “The makeup of the court? Well, we’ll see.”

Pelosi, a 25-year veteran of Congress, has routinely predicted a 6-3 ruling on the controversial law, which Republicans in the House and Senate hope to see struck down on the grounds that it is unconstitutional.

Pelosi has been dismissive of this question ever since the bill was put in front of Congress. When asked by a CNS Reporter where the Constitution granted Congress the ability to mandate purchase of health insurance back in 2010, Pelosi infamously replied “Are you serious?”

The comprehensive reforms provide greater medical coverage for the poorest, insurance for all Americans regardless of health condition and insurance for 32 million Americans who lack coverage.

But critics are particularly opposed to the law’s linchpin requirement mandating that nearly every American be insured.

They argue that the so-called individual mandate of the law is a violation of the US Constitution’s Commerce Clause, which gives Congress the power to regulate interstate trade.

Republican Mitt Romney, who will square off against Obama in November’s election, has pledged to repeal the law — which he and other Republicans have nicknamed “Obamacare” — should he win the White House.

    Sorry but I could hardly make it through the article. Nancy Pelosi is such a Harpie it is unbelievable to me. Isn’t she the same one that said, paraphrasing, ‘just pass the bill and we will figure out what’s in it later’? Now she has certainty that Obamacare is constitutional? so the SCOTUS should just play along too? And some people have the temerity to wonder why the rest of us want small government? Woe is me.

      Well the good news is, she is no longer the Speaker of the House. Every time she opens her mouth I can’t help but feel relieved that at least we fixed that. Now if only we could be sure she never got another chance.

      My 55 year old Dr. retired. He said”after he finally gets paid by Medicare and Medicade it doesn’t pay rent and expenses.” I finally listened to my 3 kids who like me have good insurence and go to Emergency Care and the most I have waited is a half hr. I think it is because they only take private insurence or cash. It takes 2 months to get in to see my new family Dr. a man from India. The last time I went to the local hospital emergency room I had to wait 3 hrs. One of my sons employees, a full blood Chickasaw with roll # and free care at our new Indian Hospital has good insurence and goes to Emergency Care also, because the wait at the indian hospital is 4 hrs. Thanks Nancy and BO for screwing up one of the best medical cares in the world.

      I disagree, Roberts won’t cave. He will vote “constitutional” if it looks like it will be a 5-4 vote. Doing this will make him the most senior voter on the “constitutional” side. By doing this, he will be the one that gets to write the explanation as to why the court ruled this way. Some say he would word it in a way to allow it to be brought up again and not just signed into law and forgot about. I hope it doesn’t come to that but I just wanted to point that out. Roberts won’t “fold.” Although it would most definately be made to look that way.

    I actually think Pelosi is right about Obamacare being passed. What has the Obama administration wanted that they have not gotten?

    Would they really let this matter rest in the hands of the Supreme Court and wait to see if they get the decision they want? I don’t believe so. Threats can be made, it happens all the time and where a judge may be willing to put himself in danger will that same judge be willing to endanger his loved ones?

    I put NOTHING past Obama and his friends in high and very low places.

      Outlaw, do a web search on the “New Party Constitution”, this crowd of socialists have been updating it since the 1960′s. Van Jones seems to be the current head of this monster, and we know how close he and b o are. Healthcare Constitutional? Read their current version, the President appoints the rest of government and basically does anything he wants.

    Either Pelosi is showing how utterly insane she is; or as most of us have figured, the administration has been forewarned by one of the justices as to the final vote already. Considering Obamas current attitude towards the SCOTUS, I have to favor that Pelosi is just displaying her latest bout of insanity.
