‘People of Merit’: Glenn Beck Launches 1791 Clothing Line

“1791.com is in business,” Glenn Beck announced on his radio show this morning.

Put simply, 1791 is a clothing line with a story to tell, Beck said.

The 1791 theme—the year the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution—has been in Beck’s mind for few years, said L.J. Herman, who runs Mercury Radio Arts merchandise. But only last January did Beck decide to create a clothing line around it, he added.

Glenn Beck Launches 1791 Clothing Line

The main thrusts of the 1791 line are to remember where we came from as Americans—to revisit that “original blueprint” of our Founding Fathers—and to restore values and efforts that have made America great. The 1791 designs “will be a constant reminder to those that wear it that we are a people of merit,” Beck said, and that maintaining those rights we’ve cherished since 1791 don’t stick around without “great responsibility.”

All net proceeds from 1791 clothing line will fund Beck’s Mercury One nonprofit philanthropic organization, which looks to restore America “one town” at a time. The relationship between the 1791 clothing line and Mercury One in many ways mirrors the Newman’s Own philanthropic arm, Beck has often said over the course of 2011.

And as the Mercury One will “help neighbors help neighbors” in the American family, Beck declared, the 1791 clothing line will fund it by employing the same philosophical approach—by depending on the craftsmanship and artistry of Americans (i.e., jobs for Americans in America), using high-grade materials made in the U.S., at a price people can afford—yet with the quality that Beck demands.

Glenn Beck Launches 1791 Clothing Line

It was “almost impossible” to find that combination, Herman said, adding that he’d been searching and trying all sorts of options since last January with no success. It was a “constant pursuit,” Herman continued, to find American companies with the “institutional knowledge” to create clothing of high quality—the way clothing used to be made in the 1950s and 60s. Clothing that was crafted to last. (”We don’t do it anymore,” Beck said this morning.)

Until American Mojo came along.

Glenn Beck Launches 1791 Clothing Line

Herman said that American Mojo was the “one company” that met all the prerequisites Beck wanted in the clothing line—including that it employs “people who want to work, not take a handout, and have a story.”

In this case, single mothers.

Indeed, American Mojo does it all, creating “sustainable employment opportunities in the apparel manufacturing sector” for single mothers and is “utilizing proceeds from your purchase of a MoJo product to provide better than minimum wage salaries, a chance at a new career path, and more importantly, freedom from the prohibitive daycare costs that keep so many mothers from re-entering the work force and being able to support themselves and the families that need them,” its website says.

American Mojo has created a few initial products for 1791, Herman said, including the “Merit” and “Death to Tyranny” fleeces.

Glenn Beck Launches 1791 Clothing Line

And one of the major design elements—the purple “merit badge”—tells a unique story, too, Beck explained. What we know as the Purple Heart began with Gen. George Washington, who awarded them during the Revolutionary War to “ragtag American soldiers,” Beck said, based on their “virtue or merit. Men who would do the right thing and go the extra mile.”

“I hope you will be proud to wear your heart on your sleeve,” Beck said to his listeners this morning.

Beck said he recently met with American Mojo to discuss mutual goals and values and found much in common.

Glenn Beck Launches 1791 Clothing Line“We finally found a small group of entrepreneurs that wanted to fill this void of American product while putting Americans to work that want to work,” Beck said this morning. “Single moms that want to make something of themselves and teach their children that earning an honest dollar for an honest days work makes one a person honor and Merit. We don’t know their politics nor do we care. We do however know their spirit and intent: To work together to restore our nation by reclaiming quality and honest and honorable capitalism.”

Mercury One looks to operate on local levels, Beck said, and not rely on tax dollars or donations—and the 1791 clothing line is the first thrust of Mercury One’s mission of giving while completely sustaining itself through good ol’ American ingenuity and hard work.

“Now it is America that finds itself in need,” Beck said, explaining the mission of Mercury One. “And there are no rescue ships crossing the seas, no countries offering to erase our debt or feed the hungry, give shelter to our homeless, or rebuild our towns and cities destroyed by catastrophe. We—you and me—must save America by saving ourselves. And we will.”

Glenn Beck Launches 1791 Clothing Line

Beck acknowledged this morning the enthusiasm of the people of Mount Airy, N.C., who’ve been wanting to him to set up shop in town and be a part of creating the 1791 line. While Mojo will be making the fleeces, the full long-term production strategy is still evolving, Beck said.

wow…I thought this was about returning America to its roots of greatness which was Patriacrchy.

Instead we are putting to work Single Mothers who are at War against Patriarchy, instead of Men and re-establishing the Family unit and Society.

What other solution can we really expect from 3rd Generation Moral Relativists so far removed from the Natural Law, the realities of Human Nature, and following alleged Bibles that equate JESUS and Lucifer (See Is. 14:12 comp. Rev. 22:16)?

Well, I suppose the Men can just hang out in the streets mopping up the blood of the Lawyer Aristocracy Families, and perish in the violent clashes since there is no future for them, while the women work for the Capitalists..

Real men create their own jobs, they don’t cry that no one is giving them one. Real men are not frightened of women who work, all people should be doing something, maybe you should be growing up. In Judges 4, Deborah had to lead an army because Barak was not man enough to do it. You might want to see what the Lord has to say about work women should be doing.

      @Thurston Bell

There wouldn’t be so many single moms if men would step up and take responsibility for their children and/or stop deserting their families. As for your supposed biblical mindset, did you ever stop to ask is that what Jesus would do?

Ever heard the term Deadbeat Dad? Ever thought about why child support is now automatically deducted from their paychecks? It’s because fathers DID NOT pay their child support. The state had to spend massive amounts of money (your tax dollars) tracking these losers down and if they found them they had to spend even more money trying to prosecute them & get the money to support their kids. Yes skipping out on paying your child support is a criminal offense.

Perhaps you should be lecturing these men about “ the Family unit” ?

“while the women work for the Capitalists” — Would you rather they were on welfare & living on your dime?

And I’ll bet you men are working for “capitalists” too. I guess you think that’s fine. And what about those men who prefer “hanging out on the streets” because they don’t want to work? They sure aren’t worried about returning America to its “roots of greatness”.

And this company does not employ ONLY single moms / women. Even if they wanted to, they can’t. It’s against the law. Ever hear about the Equal Opportunity or Discrimination laws?

I will never wear anything with skull and bones or the Jolly Roger on it even if it says Death to Tyranny. This is a vain attempt to fuse with the culture of death a new message, because the death cultures use of the skull/bones is on everything from kids shoes to hoods of cars and stands for nothing that they can explain. We in America have this fascination with the dead. My neighborhood is very family oriented with about twenty small children from 3-4 to 10-12 years old. All of their homes are now decorated with death symbols. One father of five children put a mock graveyard in his front yard with tombstones and skeletons. You’ve got to be kidding me? No! This is the new normal. To criticize it would be to look like the guy who said TV was evil. He was right. This is wrong GB. Ditch the skull/bones.

If one is going to quote the Bible, one needs to read and understand the Bible. I will never understand how anyone can throes out any sort of judgment at anyone else if they read took to heart anything in the Gospels. The Bible doesn’t say anything about women not working outside of the home. I have no idea where you get your information, but you have got of all wrong if you want to say its the “patriarch” that we need to revert to, we are all God’s children and not a single one of us has the right or ability to force another into any job/role. That would mean we acting like God and that is what Lucifer is all about. Wake up and realize that you playing right into the enemy’s hand when you make such statements.

This is exactly why people in masses buy foreign made stuff — because it’s cheaper. But, they don’t stop to think (or care?) that the reason it‘s cheaper is beacause labor is cheaper and people are exploited in terrible ways in countries that make this cheap ’stuff’.

The ONLY way we can produce ‘stuff’ in this country is to do so at a higher cost. It really isn’t any simpler than that. If you are not willing to spend a bit more to buy an American made product, you certainly shouldn’t be complaining about foreign-made products in this country.

JHRUSKY: In a perfect world your theory would be great. $85 for a GB sweatshirt, or $8 at Wal Mart. In this economy, most people cannot afford to pay Glenn’s prices and should not be chastized for not doing so. It does not make them less patriotic or not caring about their country for choosing to buy the lesser priced items. People have to live by their means. Those that can help out, wonderful. Those that cannot, that’s fine too. I am assuming you have the means to help Glenn. That’s great. Good for you.

@ Lubar spine dude. For all that a prophet could possibly be Glenn is one. Apparently you don’t pay attention. He and his crew have made enough accurate predictions and exposed enough hidden truths going against the grain of the POPULAR media to make a believer out of me. He is what is needed today. Many of us follow him, as we “follow” others, because he represents us. He gets the job done that we believe needs to be done. He is as much a product of us as we are of him. We are products of people seeking the truth. His arguments are sound, proven, and supported by many other arguments. I have yet to see anyone provide a worthy challenge. Worthy meaning do anything but name calling.

The market will determine if he made the right decisions (value determinations) on his products and if not then he can make adjustments. Maybe they are well made and will last a long time and maybe not. His name is on it so reputation is at stake.

I agree with most of what you said. However, I stand by my statement:

“If you are not willing to spend a bit more to buy an American made product, you certainly shouldn’t be complaining about foreign-made products in this country.”

If someone cannot afford the products, that’s not an issue. However, if they can only afford foreign-made products being sold here, then they shouldn‘t be complaining about how it’s bad that foreign-made products ARE sold here.

Prices are market based. These products are at the middle to upper level in price compared to some other mid-level designer competitors. There’s no reason for these products to be considered high. Not to mention the simple fact that the money is going to Mercury One. Lower prices equal more sales but does the number of sales gained outweigh the lost proceeds from lowering the price. After they have seen the sales figures for a few months they’ll have a better grasp of this and adjust the prices accordingly (if they even need to).

Here’s an example, I bought a very small $12 stuffed teddy bear for my fiance at a jewelry store last week while I was waiting for some repairs. The proceeds went to The Shriners Hospital. The bear was NOT worth $12 nor would I have bought it if the money wasn’t going to a good cause. But it was and I did …

$30 for a t-shirt may seem high, but include in your decision process the increased cost of making the products in the U.S. (union or not the wages are higher here) and the higher than average profit margin which will go to charity.

Cheap is cheap and we need to bring back the best of us through USA made. It will be pricy, after all, we have been indoctrinated to buy cheap from china. Otherwise, find out where you can buy textiles made in the USA and saw your own clothes. You will save quite a bit.

I love it, the money goes to provide jobs and help other charities, so we are helping each other.
The other day I went to church and picked-up the bulletin and read that 10% of all the basket money goes to the poorest of the poor. I went WTH, if a give a $10 only $1 goes to help the poor. That’s not right, so now I’m going direct to the people I want to help. Putting me money where my heart is. Sadly I didn’t learn this at church or home but by watching Glenn Beck on tv and questioning with boldness. I would love a 1791 baseball cap and maybe some men/women blue jeans to replace old Levis, I think it‘s a good investment if it will last a while unlike all the stuff from China that’s just not quality stuff like we use to see here.

Really? First t-shirt I came across on 1791.com costs $30… and you think it should cost $15, or even $10. That would indeed put it on price par with a thin crappy shirt from Walmart sewn by children in China from Indonesian cotton and supported in our market by intentionally-depressed Yen values. Can we find a better comparison? Certainly. The first t-shirt I came across on nflshop.com costs $28, and no free shipping offer. This shirt is officially licensed by the NFL, made in Honduras, and certainly not from American-grown cotton.

Tell you what. You call some unemployed homemaker across the country and tell her you’d like her to buy material, professionally sew three t-shirts, and ship them to you for a total of $30. If you find someone who will do that, then you can whine that these shirts should be 2/3rds cheaper.

Now maybe promoting your favorite football team has much greater inherent value to you than promoting your country. It doesn’t to me. And by “promoting your country” I do not mean wearing a shirt that says “Go USA!” If it’s worth a damn to have jobs making things in this country, we the people need to BUY things made in this country. That means paying more, because people here don’t work for $5 a week with no benefits and poor conditions. If that means $30 for a t-shirt, I’m cool with it. I find that tees last me a long time… maybe something about drying them in the American air instead of a dryer made in Mexico.

Those that believe in the cause will support it – those that don’t– won’t. Glenn will not lose sleep over those trying to discredit his deeds.

I’m not sure when the haters will figure this out — but Glenn’s success has not been phased by their efforts. Soros has tried everything but Glenn is bigger than ever. Funny how true evil always loses in the end. Keep it up Glenn!!

I’m not criticizing, but I’m wondering how many fleece hoodies the people posting derisive comments own. If you have have 2 or 3 hoodies, you’ve probably spent the same amount of money (or more). And 99.9% of those are made in another country – not supporting American workers. How many hoodies does one person really need? Same goes for “non-work” type t-shirts.

I understand that some people can’t afford these items or they need to spend their money on other things. I can’t afford to buy them right now. But when/if I can, I will. I’d rather spend my money keeping Americans working. But I’m one of those people who doesn‘t think it’s necessary to own more than 1 hoodie.

You are correct in that silver is less than $5 … in fact, it’s less than $1. I made the mistake of assuming you were talking buying an ounce at a time and I was wrong in that.

As to having to buy me milk, don’t bother … I’ll well prepared, thank you very much.

If you don‘t believe it’s getting as bad as Glenn says, that‘s your opinion and you’re certainly free to have that. I have believed the worse has been coming before I knew who Glenn Beck was, so he is not influencing my thought on this. I have the good fortune of knowing someone very close who went through the Hungarian Revolution and saw so very many similarities there during that time with what has been going on in this country. As I stated many times, I hope I am wrong. If I am, great. If I am not, my family and I are prepared. I hope you, too, are prepared as I wish no one suffering.
