Perry Blasts ‘Quirky’ Iowa and ‘Loosey-Goosey’ Process: I Look Forward to ‘Real Republicans’

Just hours after using a picture of himself jogging to announce that he was staying in the GOP presidential race, Rick Perry didn’t have the kindest words for the state of Iowa, its caucus process, and even its voters.
“This is a quirky place, a quirky process, to say the least, and we’re going to go into places where they have actual primaries and there are going to be real Republicans voting,” he told reporters. “Not that there aren’t real Republicans here in Iowa, but the fact is, it was a pretty loosey-goosey process, and you had a ton of people who were there that admitted they were Democrats voting in the caucuses last night.”
National Journal captured the comments:
It remains to be seen if those comments will endear him to the electorate. But Perry will be playing to a different crowd coming up. The southern governor is headed to more familiar territory as he takes on South Carolina. There, he will continue to portray himself as an outsider.
“I’m gonna delineate and characterize the differences in the candidates, and there are huge differences,” Perry said. “These guys are all insiders that have spent years and years in Washington, D.C.; they’re the reason that this country is broken, is because the earmarks, the spending habits that’s been built up in Washington, D.C. And they need an outsider, and I think Americans are looking for that alternative and that choice, and I’m it.”

Gov.Rick Perry On Security
http://www.rickperry.org/issues/national-security/
While advancing our interests abroad, Perry believes it is equally important to defend our interests at home by securing our border.
As president, Perry will substantially increase manpower, technology and fencing along the border to protect the American homeland and stop illegal immigration. This strategy has proven effective in Texas, where Gov. Perry has directed nearly $400 million in state tax dollars to do the federal government’s job of securing the border.
Perry will deploy thousands of National Guardsmen to the border until a sufficient number of border patrol agents can be hired and trained. He will order federal officials to expedite construction of strategic fencing, especially in high traffic areas where manpower alone is insufficient to do the job. And he will make greater use of unmanned aerial assets to gather reliable, real-time intelligence that law enforcement can immediately act
Report Post »Grey Eagle
Posted on January 4, 2012 at 8:46pmWhat illegal stance? Control of the borders is a federal responsibility. Perry has had teams of TX Rangers, National Guard, Police on the borders for several years. He has asked Obama repeatedly for boots on the ground, drones, and aviation support and all has been refused. This is a 1200 mile border. I don’t know what stance you are referring to. Foreign policy is murky? If you mean he wants to start at 0 for foreign aid and let the countries tell him why they deserve assistance, well it makes a lot of sense to me. This country is broke and a lot of aid has been wasted. I say good for him.

On behalf of Texas, I sincerely apologize for Gov Perry’s comments. The process your current and generational citizens have given us to achieve a selection process was YOUR RIGHT. We as Texans are taught when we are invited to a neighbors home not to mock the dinner they feed us. It may not be a menu we have enjoyed before, but it would be shameful to feed it to th ebegging family dog as we sit at the table. We can still be polite about totally embracing the recipe, even after a few bites. But deep down, we know the cook isn’t trying to poisen us.
Thank you Iowa for a nice dinner. We’ll give Gov Perry a firm as s-kicken’ when he returns home.

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 9:18pmHe does have somewhat of a point. I saw several voters at our precinct who registered at the caucus. Maybe 10% or so. Not all were independents/democrats. Some were new to the area or first time voters, but I’m sure a few democrats showed up. Maybe the registration process need to be similar to a primary (no sign-up the day of the caucus). That would help to keep it to actual republican voters (or democrat/independents that plan ahead).

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 8:58pmThe video of that speech you were referring to was edited by the media that filmed it. It was admitted later. The voting process in Iowa does NOT include all the voters. Just the ones who can get to a caucus. A bigger voter turn out is usual in most states. So you don’t like Perry, well after all Iowa gave most of the votes to Romney and Ron Paul. From where I am standing, that tells me a lot about Iowa. Perry is used to something different in a voting process. If he got the nomination and you did not want to vote for him, you could vote for Obama and we know how that would turn out.

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 5:38pmI voted in Iowa last night. Yes, anybody can come in, but you have to prove you live in the district, and you have to either be on the list of registered republicans, or register as a republican on-site in order to get a ballet. I had to register since I was previously registered as “No Party” (as in Independent). I cast my vote for Santorum, and then I‘m pretty sure I’m going to change my party affiliation back to independent. Not a huge fan of republicans, too progressive!
our precinct had record turnout, and Romney won ours. He also won our county (Dallas Co.)
Sad that if 9 more people could have come out to vote for Santorum, he would have won. those who would have voted for Bachmann would have been able to put themselves behind Santorum, that would have put him over the top…. But, that’s not how things work.

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 6:01pmNo, the principle is still the same. When people in the Bronze Age started whipping up on those still using sticks, the people with sticks wanted bronze weapons. When people with bronze swords got ran over by calvary, they copied it. When gunpowder was used militarily, the people who realized they were outgunned wanted the same technology, and so on. How is that any different? We are only country to deploy a nuclear weapon on another country. Are we not? Have our awesome and patriotic servicemen not been fooled into bullying lesser nations under the guise of democracy? How many countries have we invaded in the past 50 years or so vs. the number of countries Iran has invaded? (Note, not badmouthing any of our troops, just the dicks who lied to them) I just can’t help thinking about our policy and how crazy it is. In 93 we started enforcing the no fly zone in Yugoslavia. I remember being on the boat wondering what are we doing? I just didn’t understand it. I mean, I wish I could have been in the meeting where Clinton and his peeps were saying… “Hey these people are killing one another, what shall we do?…. Ew ew ew I know, let’s bomb the snot out of them!” You just can’t go indiscriminately bombing countries around the world and expect them not to resent it.

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 9:07pmI don’t think any of you voted for him, but voted for Ron Paul, Romney and Santorum. I recognize Ron Pauls talking points on some of these comments. If there is high unemployment in your states, Perry is the guy with the big jobs history. The other candidates. Nah. Perry was not bashing the voters, just the Dems that change to Republican to vote and the general process, which is a little strange.
