Perry Delivers Strong Speech Supporting Israel, Condemns Obamas Middle East Policy of Appeasement

(The Blaze/AP) Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry on Tuesday criticized the Palestinian Authority’s effort to seek formal recognition by the U.N. General Assembly and assailed the Obama administration’s broader policies in the Middle East.

In a speech in New York, Perry pledged strong support for Israel and criticized President Barack Obama for demanding concessions from the Jewish state — concessions the Texas governor says emboldened the Palestinians to appeal for U.N. recognition. ABC News provides a clip of Governor Perry’s remarks:

Perry Delivers Strong Speech Supporting Israel, Condemns Obamas Middle East Policy of Appeasement

“We would not be here today at this very precipice of such a dangerous move if the Obama policy in the Middle East wasn’t naive and arrogant, misguided and dangerous,” Perry said in a speech in New York. “The Obama policy of moral equivalency which gives equal standing to the grievances of Israelis and Palestinians, including the orchestrators of terrorism, is a very dangerous insult.”

In a statement before Perry spoke, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney also waded into the tense foreign policy dispute over Mideast policy. He called the jockeying at the United Nations this week “an unmitigated disaster.” He accused Obama’s administration of “repeated efforts over three years to throw Israel under the bus and undermine its negotiating position.”

Perry also criticized Obama’s stated goal that any negotiations should be based on the borders Israel had before a 1967 war that expanded the Jewish state. While the 1967 borders have been the basis for diplomatic negotiations, they have never been embraced before by a U.S. president. Perry called that stance “insulting and naive.”

Perry’s remarks came as the Obama administration has redoubled its efforts to block the Palestinian bid. The U.S. has promised a veto in the Security Council, but the Palestinians can press for a more limited recognition of statehood before the full – and much more supportive – General Assembly.

Perry also expressed support for allowing Jewish settlements to be constructed on the West Bank, a practice Obama has asked the Israeli government to cease. And Perry said that the entire city of Jerusalem should be part of Israel, a move that would make key religious and historical sites part of the Jewish state. Israel captured East Jerusalem from Jordan in 1967.

Perry even suggested he would move American diplomatic personnel out of Tel Aviv and instead recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. “As the president of the United States, if you want to work for the State Department, you will be working in Jerusalem,” he said.

Romney said the policy of limiting Israel’s negotiating flexibility “must stop now.” He called on Obama to unequivocally reaffirm the U.S. commitment to Israel’s security and a promise to cut foreign assistance to the Palestinians if they succeed in getting U.N. recognition.

Both Perry and Romney said the U.S. should reconsider funding for the U.N. itself if the global body votes to recognize the Palestinian Authority.

The GOP presidential hopefuls are intent on standing strongly behind Israel, an effort to appeal to Jewish voters and donors who play a pivotal role in presidential elections. It’s also an effort to reach evangelical Christians, who play a key role in the Republican primary process and who support Israel for theological reasons.

Perry on Tuesday said that his own Christian faith is part of his support for Israel.

“I also as a Christian have a clear directive to support Israel, so from my perspective it’s pretty easy,” Perry said when a reporter asked if Perry’s faith was driving his views. “Both as an American and as a Christian, I am going to stand with Israel.”

Complaints about Obama’s Israel policy helped a Republican, Bob Turner, win a special election in a heavily Jewish and Democratic New York congressional district last week. Turner appeared with Perry at the speech.

“It’s vitally important for America to preserve alliances with leaders who seek to preserve peace and stability in the region,” Perry said. “But today, neither adversaries nor allies know where America stands. Our muddle of a foreign policy has created great uncertainty in the midst of the Arab Spring.”

Obama is also in New York on Tuesday for meetings on the sidelines of the General Assembly. He planned to meet later in the week with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

We are in such a mess one man or one woman can not turn it around even in one term. They will be hounded every step of the way by these zealots in the streets right now and they have a Dem in the WH. How much more will they cut loose when they have a Rep? We’ve got to elect the right people who will fundamentally change America back to the way it was 30 or more years ago. We got to get people working on farms again. Taking off the restrictions on business, trashing the EPA, Trashing Dept ED/DOE. Audit the Fed and shut down the IRS>

Perry is not a RINO. I am from TX and know what he stands for very well. I have voted for him in 3 elections and will again in this one. Perry is a fiscal and social conservative, pro-life and stands with the State of Israel. These things are important to me.

He may gain some of the Jewish vote but the question is, will he lose the Tea Party vote. Come to find out the Texas Tea Party has been releasing multiple videos calling Perry back to fix the immigration problem in his state: http://www.thedailycandidate.com/video/2011/sep/teaparty_pressures_perry.html

I saw some of Perry’s painful speech he READ for the most part. Poorly done. Not that the words weren’t right or sound good…….BUT when someone has to READ so much and can’t speak more easily than that……me thinks one doesn’t have a DEEP, real opinion/understanding of the issue. Me thinks Perry’s foreign policy THOUGHT is shallow and not well developed. SO……..WHO IS writing and thinking for him??

Mitt’s book shows a much deeper and analytical thought process on foreign affairs and the impact of the economies of major world “powers” as well as the political implications. Romney spoke out on the Israeli situation and recently spoke to Jews. WHERE is the “truth has no agenda” mantra ACTION, not just hallow words.

Oh………it‘s the ’conservative’ gang up against Romney with Fox, Beck, Limbaugh, Levin, Ingraham. What a shame when we DO need honest, conservative voices. Perry’s crony capitalism……..PUSHING hard for the Trans TX corridor and HPV…….are HARDLY any “principles”/tactics I want to put in the WH!

We have a man in the WH currently that said “all the right” flattering things. Let not the “right” side dupe themselves into thinking Perry is Mr. Wonderful! THINK. READ. ANALYZE FOR YOURSELF.

CCR–Well said! Perry is horrible on Israel and any subject where he has to think on his own. He read this speech. Perry has as much understanding of Israel as nothing! Romney could freely give a doctoral dissertation on Israel with no notes. I‘ll bet Perry has never read a bible cover to cover and has very little surfacy understanding of what’s in it! Mitt is so much more Christian and humble than Perry ever thought of being. Perry is not presidential material and no where near educated enough to stand on his own with his own thoughts and handle the economy or foreign policy. Everything that comes out of his mouth is advisors speek! Don’t be fooled by simple minded rhetoric! That was the mistake with this president. Mitt Romney is the smart, educated experienced one with all of the deep ideas, not his advisors! He works for free because e’s a patriot who knows how to help! Perry is after his own glory and legacy! Perry is hot tempered, undisciplined, and has poor self control as shown by his evil dirty looks, blowing kisses to the camera, flirting, back slapping, and use of the words insulted and insulting over and over again. Perry can’t think beyond that level and uses pay to play politics! Romney can’t be bought! Romney has my vote! Is anybody out there thinking for themself or paying attention? This nation better elect Romney or they’ll miss the best opportunity to come along in decades! Wake up people and listen to the obvious!!!

Romney gave a statement BEFORE Perry that was well thought out and right on target! Perry’s was simple minded and used his usual rhetoric of “dangerous”. Perry likes that word. Romney is being totally dismissed by the Blaze and Beck’s group, which I know Beck will be very sorry about later. The majority of those supporting Perry call themselves evangelical. Beck is being a useful idiot for those people. They won‘t vote for Romney just because he’s a Mormon and they love Beck for being against a member of his own faith. Perry and evangelicals figure they will treat Beck, a Mormon nicely as long as he is tearing all other Mormons who hold or run for elected office down! Beck’s just too stupid to see that Romney would be the best president by far, because he has the understanding of what to do economically and with foreign policy. Disappointing to see the Blaze giving Perry preferential treatment ! I’m scaling back how much I listen to Beck and scrutinizing more of what he and his websites say. He’s misguided in some areas, unfortunately. Beck better get his head screwed on straight about Perry. Perry will burn Beck BAD! You watch and see…Beck will never see it coming and then start apologizing that he’s wasted his audiences time and resources and mislead many to the wrong president!

Romney would be smart to leave that issue alone. As far as the rest:
Bachman and Paul have too much crazy in them. At this point,
she could run for local office in MN. If she keeps making a fool of herself
she may have a hard time winning the president of
her local PTA. Paul can retire and write books on conspiracy theories

Perry may call Obama’s actions of equalizing the terrorist run state of Palestine with Israel as “insulting and naive”, I would call it “ deliberate and dangerous” for if such a state were recognized, the capital of that Palestinian state will be East Jerusalem where most of the life of Jesus Christ and a King Salomon’s Temple reside will fall into radical Islamic hands. This will be an unbearable situation which would force Israel to go to war with this new state and remove herself from the UN.

You do realize that the word Democracy has a broader meaning today? Democracy, when used today, is meant to refer to anything from majority rule to a representive, constitutional republic like the United States. When the founding fathers were around, democracy obviosuly meant majority rule. But because of people like the founding fathers, democracy has become better or as people like to say, evolved.

That may be true in that aspect, but when you factor in the fact concerning Rick Perry’s past attempt to enforce his excutive order forcing 12-year old females to undergo that supposedly “cancer-preventive” injection of Gardasil, the vaccine that claimed hundreds of lives within its wake (there are YouTube videos proving this), and accepting a $30,000+ kickback from Merck in return, I would find the claim of Rick Perry being a “pro-lifer” very arduous to swallow. It is for this reason I would refer to him as “The Gardasil Life Marauder.”

Good — the non stop interferance of Mr Obama in this matter, so he can become a hero in the end to the people of the world at large has backfired and taken a life of their own he is now failing to see how he can claim the prize in the end.

Ron Paul:” First off, [the Israelis are] under threat because **we’re there**. We’re a greater threat to them, and our polices, because they have assumed that we’ll [intervene] if they don’t do the right things for themselves. We should treat all other countries alike, and that we should be friends.” So we should treat North Korea the same way we treat Canada and just hope things work out? That’s certainly a nice fantasy, but have fun trying to convince voters that it’s a plausible foreign-policy doctrine.

Hello??? Listen up!!! Perry doesn’t know anything on Israel! Read his statement last week where he spoke of Palistinians needing to talk directly with Israel and you can also read the number of laughs he got afyer his many inaccurate comments! They told his advisors to **** him up until he actually knows something about their relationship or history! Perry’s a boob and HE knows how uneducated he is! Stop supporting stupidity and demand more of your elected officials! Geez!!! Can’t stand stupid voters and their naive comments! Sheeple!!!

Black Liberation Theology Reverend Wright who befriended Louis Farrakhan and traveled with him was a mentor to Barry.

Of course Obama hates Israel, All that he knew, knows and wishes to meet has been against Israel. From his early years overseas in a madrassa to his Marxist childhood mentor. To the communist parents he looked up to and his need to search out Marxists in college.

His entire life has been a closet antisemitic. And this is a surprise to people?

I wonder why Obama has the views that he does on Israel and Palestine. Did you know Obama shares a birthday with Yasser Arafat the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization? The odds are only 365:1 still it’s interesting. Almost as interesting as the real story that continues to leak

      March4him,

While it’s interesting to read posts like yours, you need to understand something very fundamental about numbers. They’re totally subjective to the number SYSTEM they use. And in that case, symbols used to represent them. Your play on numbers wouldn’t work in a base 16 numerical system, nor a base 8, nor a ternary or binary (well, maybe binary).

The point is, our 0-9 number system was chosen cuz base 10 is easy to understand, and the symbols for those numbers were chosen for no specific reason. Trying to solve some riddle or deriving the beginning of time from this numbers-game is ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS.

      Numbers used in the original bible weren’t 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0… they were: http://biblescripture.net/aleph.jpg
      Try flipping those around.

Assuming God based the beginning of time to be relative to a SUBJECTIVE A.D. numerical origin relative to a subjective numerical language is absurd. 1961 and 6119 are absolutely meaningless.
