Perry Delivers Tough & Controversial Words to Fed Chair Ben Bernanke

Rick Perry Says More Bernanke Money Printing Would Be TreasonousTexas Gov. Rick Perry has only been a GOP presidential contender for a few days, but he’s already sparking controversy.

On Monday, he delivered some tough words to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke — words that some of his critics find less than appropriate. The Huffington Post has the quote from Perry, who was speaking in Iowa:

“[If Bernake] prints more money between now and the election, I don‘t know what y’all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas.”

Then, he went on to say that the act of printing more money would be “almost treasonous.” Watch these comments below in a video captured by ThinkProgress:

The comments have drawn ire from liberals and conservatives, alike. ThinkProgress predictably picks apart Perry’s comments, writing that he “appeared to suggest a violent response would be warranted should…Bernake ‘print more money’ between now and the election.”

NYU economics professor, Nouriel Roubini, though, took a much harsher approach. On his Twitter feed, he called Perry a “thug” and compared his tactics to Lenin’s (yes, the Russian revolutionary):

Rick Perry Says More Bernanke Money Printing Would Be TreasonousRick Perry Says More Bernanke Money Printing Would Be Treasonous

Tony Fratto, a former member of the Bush Administration, while not as harsh in his assessment, was also less-than-pleased with Perry’s commentary on Bernake. He Tweeted the following:

Rick Perry Says More Bernanke Money Printing Would Be Treasonous

The Blaze reached out to Fratto via Twitter, asking him to elaborate on why, exactly, he sees Perry’s comments as un-presidential utterings. He responded:

Rick Perry Says More Bernanke Money Printing Would Be TreasonousRick Perry Says More Bernanke Money Printing Would Be Treasonous

Clearly, Fratto believes that Perry crossed the line. ABC News has more regarding what Perry said following these controversial comments:

“We’ve already tried this. All it’s going to be doing is devaluing the dollar in your pocket and we cannot afford that. We have to learn the lessons of the past three years that they’ve been devastating. The President of the United States has conducted an experiment on the American economy for almost the last three years, and it has gone tragically wrong and we need to send him a clear message in November of 2012 that new leadership is  coming.”

But, his statements on the Fed didn’t end there. In a follow-up interview, Perry was asked if he believes the Federal Reserve has been playing politics to assist the president. His reply?

“If they print more money between now and this election, I would suggest that’s exactly what’s going on.”

Despite the response, it’s likely that this situation will rapidly blow over. Still, it’s further evidence that candidates must be careful concerning how they market and package their ideals. One comment that is left unexplained may lead to a plethora of opposition.

One doesn’t need to accuse Bernanke of “Treason” to criticize his actions as Fed Chairman, but there‘s nothing wrong with pointing out that he’s made a mess with his Keynesian printing presses:

      2) Forget the “appropriatness” of the comments. Are they true? Yep. QE3 will be another in a long line of DISASTERS for this administration. Period. Every person with common sense knows this. Don’t be mad at Perry for calling a cow turd a cow turd.

      @ENCINOM

#1) Perry never endorsed secession. In fact, he specifically stated that he does not endorse it. Go research it for yourself.
#2) Texas reserved the right of secession when it joined the union. If it choosed to secede, that is in no way an act of agression against the Union and making comparisons to such is inappropriate. (As a side note there are over 20 states that reserved the right to secede.)
#3) There are many examples in history where people who did anything to devalue the currency of a country were considered traitors. Perry’s statement has historical precedent. It also makes sense. A traitor is defined as anyone who betrays another, a cause, or any trust. If you don’t think Bernanke has betrayed the trust of the American people by devaluing our currency…. perhaps you should speak more to that point as opposed to personal attacks against Perry and nitpicking his choice of words.
#4) Texans call a snake a snake. And whether you get offended at how they say it or not, it’s still a snake. Bernanke is hurting our currency by printing more money. He should stop.

You are proactively working to subvert and destroy the country by printing insane quantities of monetary notes, weakening it’s financial strength by the way of devaluing the currency, therefore you are treasonous.

      ■Endorsed pro-abortion on demand and pro-homosexual “marriage”

To all Ron Paul supporters: Most of his positions are spot on. The biggest problem, the one that makes him unqualified for office is his stance on foriegn wars. He has said that he would not even have attacked Afghanashit in defense of the attack on 9-11. If he wont do the most basic responsibility of the government, the protection of its citizenry, then he is unqualified. Other than that, icould support the message but the messenger??? Not so much.

I LOVE Rick Perry’s ability to tell it like it is!

I desperately want a president who has served his country in the military, has executive leadership experience, and talks to the American people like we are SMART folks, not like we are a bunch of idiots in need of micro management or hand holding. I am sick and tired of being pat on the head and told, “Don’t worry, we (the Government) will do what is best for you because we know you aren’t smart enough to figure it out for yourself.”

I want a president who is BRAVE and UNAFRAID and is actually proud to be an American! Please, Rick Perry: DON’T CHANGE A THING!

Bernanke has been letting the printing presses roll and our dollar just keeps be debauched because of the decisions these clowns have been making. I do believe that they know exactly what they are doing. This is how takeovers are done and how dictators and tyrants come into power and Obama and his crew all know it. It’s happening just the way they had planned and much faster than even they thought that it would. 2nd, put in a great big giant fan in the hole
3rd, use the fan to blow the smog thru the hole and out of Los Angeles

It’s gonna cost $20 trillion dollars to do it.

(which, by the way they PAY NOTHING into as we did SS and MEDICARE.) The other ENTITLEMENT PROGRAM you don‘t and won’t hear them talk about is WELFARE. (Paying single women for having babies out of wedlock) Medicaid, Free medical insurance for any one that wants it, be they legal residents or ILLEGAL. SSI which is STATE money paid to people that have NEVER WORKED, (and never will) when they become disabled (too obese to get a job even if they would) or have been on Welfare all their lives and now are too old to bear children and can’t draw SS for lack of a work history. And yet they ALL go after the working OLD people..OH yeah, how about stopping the SS payments that go to 20 other COUNTRIES for their OLD people?
