Personal Incomes Fall More During ‘Recovery’ Than During The Recession

America’s longest economic recession since WWII, ended in June of 2009. The recession’s end means that our economy has allegedly been in recovery mode since July of 2009, more than two and a half years.

If we are in recovery, why have American’s incomes dropped more during the recovery than they did in the recession? The facts are clear.

Personal incomes fell during the recession by 3.2%.

During the recovery (since July 2009), personal incomes have fallen an additional 6.7%.

Those numbers were posted in a report by Sentier Research using numbers provided by the U.S. Census. (The RED line is the Household Income Index)

Incomes Fall More In The Recovery Than The Recession

The Obama administration has been touting the “recovery” of the American economy and yet this recent data seems to demonstrate that the average household is still waiting for some of the benefits seen in the stock market.

Jeff Anderson of The Weekly Standard drilled deeper into the Sentier report and found even more information that might be cause for concern in the White House.

The income drop was steeper for those under 25 years of age (their incomes were down 9.5 percent), for those between 25 and 34 years of age (down 9.8 percent), for black Americans (down 9.4 percent), for families with three or more children (down 9.5 percent), and for families headed by part-time workers (down 11.5 percent).

Young people and African Americans were two of the strongest voting blocks for Barack Obama in the 2008 election. Seeing that both of those groups are being hit harder than the rest of the population represents an opportunity for the GOP and a challenge for Obama.

You can read the rest of Jeffery Anderson’s analysis in the Weekly Standard HERE.

Herman Cain on Fox Business last night made an interesting comment.
He noted that 45% of Americans think Barry is doing a good job! That he said, is the results of the ignorant and the gullible voters.
When you add to that the entire progressive media, loudly regurgitating the White House talking points day after day, you began to understand the hill Republican’s will have to climb to remove Barry in ‘12! As an example.
Barry goes on nation wide TV complaining that Republicans are partisan (and want dirty water and to poison your air!), while he stops the Keystone pipeline (20K jobs), drilling in the gulf and off shore and funnels billions of tax payer funds to his money bundlers for ‘green’ projects that are complete failures!
All to the cheers of the media and that really obnoxious DNC puppet Debbie Whatsername.

Barry Urkel has an unbounded and untruthful press – for now. Once there is a Republican candidate Urkle will HAVE to address the issues that he and the press have dodged for three years. That is as long as we get a candidate that has some guts.

The simple fact that any American thinks Obama should be re-elected is a disgrace.

It doesn’t matter what Herman Cain or any other people say about BO. He will be reelected.
He was put in office by controlling factors we have been unaware of. Heard of the Illuminaty? They have an agenda that has not been fulfilled as yet, but they are very nearly to the end of their goal.
Why do you think this puppet feels he can do whatever he pleases, passing laws over the heads of the HOR and Congress? The media is also in on it. Create a diversion so “the people” will not be aware of what is truly happening in this world. Don’t be fooled, the people are nothing more than sheeple, doing the bidding of their masters, the governments of the world. The elections are nothing short of a play with many acts. All of these politicians are as crooked as hell, and care only for themselves. They have sold out to provide themselves with whatever. I know this sounds crazy, but we are truly living in “The Twilight Zone”. Doubt what I say??? Go to youtube.com and type in Nibiru update. Then type in area 51 underground containment areas. Then……read as much as you can from these sites, and make up your own minds.

Reason, my clients are laying people off during times when they should be booming. They have cut the services I offer to the bare bone.

The only customers I have that are doing well either sell out side of the US or sell to the federal government.

Agreed. I am self-employeed also and have noticed the same thing from my clients. They are laying off people in big numbers and are not reinvesting or expanding. Fortunately for me, my consulting services are in big demand as a result of the layoffs, which allows me to hire some of the people that are being laid-off, but not so much that I can hire all of them.

Obama is killing our economy, but many people are too damn stupid to see it, including those that have lost their jobs due to Obama’s policies. (FYI…I don’t hire those idiots. If they are too stupid to recognize the reasons for their demise, they are too stupid to work for me.)

I work for a city government, Public School, and my income has been frozen for the last year and looks to be frozen for the next as well. If the US government would freeze the amount of money it spent annually we could very likely grow out of the debt crisis eventually, unfortunately my income freeze is causing my family hardship due to the rise in the cost of all products which I thought wasn’t supposed to exist…inflation being near zero. Yeah and monkeys will be flying out of my left nostril next.

      hey MyTwoCents,

I also work in a ‘government job’ and you sir are an ass. No raise in the face of increasing costs means income degredation. In my position I have had to take on more and more and even more work for the same amount of pay, and there’s no cost of living increase on the horizon. Trust me, the low level goverment worker’s busting their humps getting the roads built, maintaining buildings, bridges and parks aren’t the ones pulling in the huge paychecks or retirement packages, that’s the domain of the Administrators.
When the average employee where I work earns less than $30k annually, and my boss earns roughly $50k annually (he admits to), his boss earns over $100k annually. Why the huge increase in pay? He doesn’t do anything I can see that justifies that kind of salary, and actually when he makes a mistake it costs us the Taxpayers a hell of a lot more than if I should make one in the course of my job.
I guess the next question is How about the next guy on the totempole, How much is he making in his goverment office job along with perks, benefits and privileges that haven‘t and won’t be frozen or reduced without an order from the Govenor. Oh and btw, he gives money to the Govenor‘s PAC and golfs with him and is an ’old’ buddy of his, so I doubt that is going to be changing anytime soon.
So in a nutshell ‘Mystwocents’ we are all in this suffering if you are in the lower third of income levels.

I don’t understand why the demographic changes such as the Baby Boomers reaching retirement is not considered a factor, especially considering the concurrent shrinkage of workers following them. Some loss of income is on purpose and by design. Also it is well understood that travel declines with age and is especially pronounced in the group that has just retired. This Baby Boomer phenomenon will also be a factor in increasing pressure on high tax states and cities. Boomers can move and they don’t move randomly. It is toward better weather, family or away from high property taxes. More money is spent on healthcare in the last years of their lives but they generally don’t see it as “their money.” The debt that young people take on decreases spendable income or disposable income. Even if the average inflation adjusted wage wage went up, it does not matter if the government spends more for you. We are drowning in counterfeit transactions from counterfeit agreements to pay mortgages, money that is declining in value, counterfeit transactions between worker and employer, counterfeit education that cost more than it is worth especially for home schoolers who must support the educational beast and the cost of giving their children an education. We have counterfeit regulation that does not deliver value commensurate with the cost and it increases the cost of all things, some of which are needed. Congressional promises are counterfeit also along with the security that they pro

Although it doesn’t say one way or the other, from the way they usually do the numbers, the increase in gov’t workers salaries would have already been figured in this graph. Otherwise it would look MUCH worse. Like the way they don’t figure the real unemployment numbers by not counting the chronically unemployed or the underemployed, or those who don‘t qualify or those who aren’t actually “collecting” benefits, or the way they don’t consider the increases in food and energy in the rate of inflation.

The reason for this entire mess is taxing income in lieu of consumption.
Since the introduction of income taxes, governments have become nothing more than thriving gangs of thieves.
The entire taxing scheme is designed for one thing … to separate us from our wealth.
And if we don’t cough it up to them, they imprison us.

The self anointed have always used other people’s money to enhance their personal wealth and there is only three ways it will stop; when they run out of other people’s money, when they run out of other people, or when the people rid themselves of the culprits.

Many argue that we need government, but a government out of control and in control of the monetary system and the people’s income, is worse then a deadly disease eating society from within.

At the end of the day, we the people must deal with the likes of; Nancy Pelosi, Barry Soetoro and Harry Reid, to name just three in the massive gang of thieves.
