PETA Rails Against Thanksgiving in Ad Featuring Baby as Part of Holiday Meal

From the same masterminds that brought you the “sexy vegetable” TV commercial that was rejected by the Super Bowl (Caution! This commercial is highly offensive) comes another pro-vegan campaign destined to convince absolutely no one to stop eating meat.
In order to spread their vegan message, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has constructed a few displays of a Thanksgiving feast featuring a human baby as the main course in Philadelphia and, most recently, in Baltimore.
Rest easy: it’s not a real human baby. It’s just a doll.
“They set up a table” on a Baltimore sidewalk, PETA media coordinator Adam Miller told the Los Angeles Times, “like a Thanksgiving spread, with silverware and plates and stuff and the baby in the middle.”
In an effort drive their message home, they also prominently displayed a large sign that reads: “Everybody’s somebody’s baby.”
“PETA says its point was that many turkeys aren’t even a year old when they’re killed for Thanksgiving consumption,” writes the Times.
However, given this fact, it would appear that the imagery of an infant being served as a main course doesn’t quite make sense. As the Times points out: “the average lifespan of the domesticated turkey is 10 years. The average lifespan for a U.S. citizen is 78 years. If you do the math, a second-grader perhaps would have been more apropos as the main course.”
But wait! There’s more!
PETA organizers have also released a “turkey dog” ad campaign aimed directly at children:
Obviously, some parents are unhappy that children are the direct targets of the slightly disturbing ad campaign.
“The ad is inappropriate because the kids don’t make the decisions, the parents do. You’re just scaring the fudge out of the kids,” said Christina Jimenez in the Times article.
PETA has no qualms with admitting that they children are targeted by the ad. As PETA’s Bryan Wilson said: the ads are intended to speak directly to school-age children. These kids are “young enough to have open minds that animals are not food.”
However, these most recent efforts to protest Thanksgiving shouldn’t really come as a suprise. PETA’s done this before.
Recall that in 2009, PETA put together a TV ad that was supposed to be aired during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Much like their rejected Super Bowl ad, this one was also turned down by several affiliates for being, for a lack of a better word, tasteless.
See the rejected 2009 Thanksgiving PETA ad:
It’s not really difficult to see why some station executives thought that an ad featuring an adorable girl giving thanks to God for “the chemicals and dirt and poop in the turkey we’re about to eat” didn’t quite “fit with the spirit of the [Macy's] parade.”

Posted on November 24, 2011 at 9:10amTheir naivety truly shines when they make the foolish assumption that people would not be willing to eat dogs, or babies.
Their incapability of rational thought truly shines when they make the ridiculous assertion that because you wouldn’t be willing to eat an animal that is important to you, you shouldn’t eat any animals. By that logic, if a PETA vegan would not eat their prized petunias, they should not eat the fruit of any plant.

Posted on November 24, 2011 at 9:45amWhat spices should they wear? Should they go with a blend of Itailian spice and olive oil rub or go with a southern barbecue covering. Wild animals always seem attrcted to saltlicks. Maybe just a simple seasalt and oil coating would be best.
Absolutely no synthetic fibers in the clothing, can’t risk the health of an endangered species. Thankfully we have more PETA members than lions so we can spare…….all of them.
Happy Thanksgiving

Posted on November 24, 2011 at 9:53am@THE1STDAVE, your consideration for the health of the endangered carnivores is commendable.
The spice, rub and sauce suggestions are probably not necessary, since we wouldn’t want to give those poor carnivores heartburn. A marinade might be helpful, since most of those PeTA folks look like tough old birds(with a few exceptions, the ones they put on TV).
My experience with lions and othe African carnivores is that they are not very picky eaters, BUT, that was 30+ years ago, sooooo, it is possible that they may have changed their dietary habits.
Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your feast, unless you are a vegan, then choke on a brussels sprout, LOL

Posted on November 24, 2011 at 10:15amI wish PETA would rail against our food industry..Something needs to be done about the way our country processes soy..It would be wonderful to have Tofu Turkey..and soy burgers are just the best…but they are extremely bad for you..shutting down your thyroid..I don’t knwow if this is done intentially…but I have heard fitness experts say that in counties like Japan..they leave soy whole (maybe it’s our bio food engineering) and I doubt that it has all the pesticides…would be nice if in place of the pesticides,,they would use something natural ..
Report Post »As far as slaughtering animals..it’s very sad..after all they do have feelings..they love..and are happy..they hurt and are sad. They have a heart that pumps blood, and eyes that see..and they have innocence..That is what animal sacrifices of the Old Testament were about..my pastor told us that the Israelites would take lamb into their home and raise it..and after having grown to love it..they would have to sacrifice it..Just a hint of the feeling that YWVH had in giving His Son ..perfect, sinless, and innocent as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.. Happy Thanksgiving.

Posted on November 24, 2011 at 4:17pmAhhhhhhhhhhh. Turkey, Ham, Rabbit, and Deer are the centerpieces to the feast at my house. Surrounded by sweet potato’s, cranberry sauce, dressing, fresh corn and green beans straight from the garden. Cole slaw, and 2 other types of salad (don’t ask, my sis brought them up from Tennessee), rolls, masked potato’s, jello molds, fresh churned butter, pork and turkey gravy, a few different kinds of pies, cheesecakes (cheery, strawberry and plain), pineapple upside-down cake (my favorite next to cherry cheese-cake) and a bunch of other stuff.
I bought my house from a former Athletics Administrator who had it built to receive entire football teams for celebrations. 2048 sq feet of rec-room space to add to close to a 600 sq ft dining room. Mom and dad take the opportunity to fill it up every year with family and a bunch of at risk kids, battered wives, and men from shelters who are struggling. Everyone isn‘t here yet but it’s already wall to wall people, so I’m taking a time-out and hiding in my office every now and then.
The bottom line to me is that we have an AWESOME God. He has blessed me with a good situation and whatever I can do to give back I consider a privilege. It’s a day of Thanks, and brain dead organizations like PETA who jump at every chance to assault faith, and deride God are some of the biggest losers of all.
I’d bet their tables are dressed for the occasion, so that makes them hypocrites as well as idiots.

Posted on November 24, 2011 at 11:06amIn nature, the big animals eat the little animals. I’ve seen a cat torture and devour a defenseless baby mouse. This isn’t “ethical” if you are the mouse.
Plants experience pain too. I’ve seen soy bean plants wilt and bleed when they are mistreated. Tofu and bean curd are the products of plant exploitation and abuse.
Turkeys should be murdered and ripped to pieces and eaten with mashed potatoes and stuffing. The male turkey is one of the most sexist of all birds. The male turkey struts around in gaudy plumage and sexually harasses the females.
As for eating chicken eggs, the hen has the right to choose. If the hen chooses to abort the chick fetus, it is acceptable to eat the egg. Yukk.

Posted on November 24, 2011 at 8:14amGod not only created animals but also killed them for covering the naked bodies of Adam and Eve. In the Bible, God also sanctioned the killing of animals for food (examples: Noah, the Mosaic Law, Peter). You can certainly choose to not eat meat for health reasons (as the prophet Daniel chose to do because of the richness of the food and its suspect origin), but don’t tell me that animals are the equals of human beings as PETA does.
