PETA Seeks Memorials to Cows Killed on Illinois Roads

CHICAGO (AP) — An animal rights group wants Illinois to install highway signs in memory of cattle killed when trucks hauling them flipped in two separate wrecks.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has asked for permission to buy the markers, one in suburban Chicago and one northwest of Peoria. The group says the signs would pay tribute to the more than 20 cattle killed as a result of negligent driving this year.
Illinois Department of Transportation spokesman Josh Kauffman says the request will likely be denied because the state’s Roadside Memorial Act specifies that only relatives who lost loved ones in highway crashes may request memorials.
In 2006, Virginia rejected PETA’s request for highway markers to memorialize hogs killed in crashes on their way to slaughter at Smithfield Foods.

Posted on December 31, 2011 at 9:04amI’ll say the eulogy. Those cows were wonderful creatures, but they gave up their first protocol, to make people happy with their milk, and roasts and beef for burgers. Instead they offered themselves as road kill, because they were too stupid to sacrifice themselves for the well being of mankind.
May those foolish cows be one with the belly of the vultures, and their bones ground into feed for other animals to feast on.
And all the people said?

Posted on December 31, 2011 at 6:43pm… there will be another civil war in America, but it will not be about slavery. It will be about clashing ideologies. The Liberal mind is becoming out of control, and the only way to deal with it will be to kill it . And when we do we can post a small sign stating that a liberal marxist died on this spot, that way the cows can pay their respects when they walk past …

Posted on December 31, 2011 at 6:49pmI think the memorials are a teriffic idea. PETA can buy a small plot of land at each site and pay for the memorials. Illinois is a union shop state so they should be able to get each memorial put up for less that $100,000. I’m sure their members would be more than willing to support this noble cause.

Posted on December 31, 2011 at 7:36amI know of a place where the very same good ole Illinois animal rights folks CAUSED the death of of couple thousand hogs in hot trailers waiting to be unloaded because they were being slaughtered!?!? The methods were inhumane….uhhh, baking alive in the hot summer sun on a trailer is more pleasant? NEWSFLASH….Yes, animals DO die when there is an accident on the highway. Congrats PETA….the cows were probably eatable, but the pigs on those hot trailers, not so much. These poor folks are just a little confused as to how important life is…..perhaps it’s caused by the lack of protein to their bodies.

Posted on December 31, 2011 at 6:59amPETA obviously has a warm heart; how about it PETA places memorials on the highway close to each town? These memorials would list the names of the clinics and doctors and nurses in that town providing abortions. PETA could also have recorded on the memorials the number of children killed each year by the abortionists.
Report Post »Until PETA does the above, they are not warm hearted or caring in the least.

Posted on December 31, 2011 at 7:03amBIZARRE ! !
What I want to know, is, what do they have against butterflies, June-bugs, mosquitoes, deer, skunks, squirrels, etc.? Why is the life of a cow any more precious to them than a mosquito? A skunk?
A critter is a critter. Period.
Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
Sure, we are to be good stewards, but, come ON ! This is ri-DONK-u-LOUS !
They should lose their non-profit status for such nonsense. If I were a donor, I’d be REALLY MIFFED!
