Philly Reporter Sent to Cover Wall St. Protests Is Also a Media Matters Fellow

What would you think if a senior reporter for a major U.S. newspaper was also a fellow at the anti-Fox, anti-Glenn Beck, and frankly anti-conservative left-wing group Media Matters? As Fox recently pointed out, that‘s exactly what’s going on with Philadelphia Daily News reporter Will Bunch.

Bunch, who has been covering the Occupy Wall St. protests, admits the affiliation on his Twitter account:

Philadelphia Daily News reporter Will Bunch Is a Fellow at Media MattersThe New York Times notes the Media Matters association and calls him a “progressive journalist,” while noting the anti-Tea Party tone of his book:

In his new book, “The Backlash: Right-Wing Radicals, High-Def Hucksters, and Paranoid Politics in the Age of Obama,” the progressive journalist Will Bunch serves up his own anatomy of the Tea Party movement, that loose agglomeration of right-wing insurgents, libertarians, conservatives, evangelicals, survivalists, gun-rights crusaders, antitax protesters, deficit hawks, antigovernment zealots, militia members, Ayn Randers, Limbaugh “ditto heads,” Glenn Beck fanatics, birthers, Birchers, and supporters of Sarah Palin and Ron Paul.

But it‘s where Bunch’s affiliation isn‘t mentioned that’s interesting, as Fox points out:

FoxNews.com was unable to find any mention of Bunch’s association with Media Matters on Philly.com, which hosts content from the Philadelphia Daily News and its rival, the Inquirer.

There is also no mention in the Daily News’ online edition of Bunch’s support of the Occupy Wall Street protesters, which is suggested in his Twitter posts.

Sure enough, the “About Will Bunch” section on the paper’s website makes no mention of the association:

Philadelphia Daily News reporter Will Bunch Is a Fellow at Media Matters

And Keith Olbermann also failed to mention it while introducing Bunch’s recent guest appearance on “Countdown,” during which the progressive journalist talked about the protests:

“I’ve always written about the media, criticizing the media a lot from a progressive point of view,” he explained to Foxnews.com. “I think my editors are really proud to have someone writing with a point of view. I have a strong background, and I’m pretty good at identifying issues in the media. We think it’s good for dialogue and for selling papers.”

But what about compartmentalizing his opinions from his reporting?

“The Daily News is fairly unusual, we’re not that big on boundaries,” said Bunch. “The new editor, Larry Platt, encourages us to be more opinionated.”

How can anybody be in Journalism and be affiliated with a propaganda organization or have an agenda other than just reporting the facts. Clearly this guy and many other lame stream reporters do both. Is a shame the most sacred oath of journalism is no longer that. Wonder if Journalism schools even teach it anymore.

I’ve never understood this recent phenomenon that permits opinion in journalism. It’s either fact or opinion and they have an obligation to identify it if they claim to be professionals. The other problem is that they choose which facts to present (like youtube deleting their videos). They should be held responsible and laws should be created to help us identify the truth. I was listening to Limbaugh the other day and he said that there was no question, absolutely no doubt that the wall street protesters were organized by the white house. He gave no facts, no proof, nothing a jury or an innocent listener could use to evaluate his assumption. It’s just the truth according to his big fat head. “This is what community organizers do.” Really, is that so? Maybe someone here knows what a community organizer does (besides ruining the country) because I have never actually met one.

Can’t make this poop up. What is a reporter? I was brought up being told it is a person, non-biased, that reported the news. Sort of who what when where and why. Non of this poop like Dan Rather did on Bush. Or NBC did with the exploding gas tanks. Cripes. Just the news please. DIP WADS!

Hopefully you didn’t get to this point in life without the ability to tell the difference between a news reporter and a talk show host (limbaugh). Just as in an opinion page in a newspaper, it is all opinions. He is not there to present your news for you and it is not expected of him. A reporter for a paper is, as they are given access others do not have, so that we can get our news from them.

How can you condemn the philly.com guy
for giving his opinion?Almost every article I read
here is an AP or Reuters article copied and pasted and
the reporter adds his opinion or a few lines so
they can claim a byline. You choose to read
news from a source you trust but you can never
fully believe anything you read. Nobodies unbiased.

it is driving me nuts that the media is repoting these protests as leaderless and spontaneous. I wish Glenn would issue a press statement with evidence that he talked about these protests 6 months ago, their leaders and objectives. Why are we allowing the media to lie to us so openly when the truth is out there?

There is nothing wrong with Media Matters…they expose lies (mostly from members of the right). It’s the same as NewsBusters, which has a decidedly right wing slant. Actually, I’ve been reading both for quite some time, and I’ve never seen NewsBusters attack the right, while Media Matters has the occasional left wing expose.

The biggest problem with media matters is they have gotten to the point of absurd with what they consider a “lie”. If its said by conservative media edpecy fnc, it usually goes like this: fox news claims most amercicans don’t like to pay higher taxes. Truth: based on our studies of 5 Americans most Americans would love to pay higher taxes especially if they believe it will help to reelect the President, fund moveon.org etc. Not sure most of us would consider that a lie, nor their data to be what most of us would call “data”

The Philadelphia Inquirer has been on a fast and steady decline for quite some time. Anyone who lives in the area served by this paper realizes it is nothing more than a DNC publication, filled with rhetoric more commonly associated with Michael Moore than that one would expect from unbiased reporters.

Go into any local store or market on a Sunday morning and you will see stacks of the Inquirer while most often the local paper has been sold out.

The people currently occupying the White House are all in on the game of hide the truth and with the willing participation of the MSM they are still lying to the American people. I have almost given up on Fox as a news source and now prefer getting real news via the internet, Glen Beck and Rush.

There is a reason that so many newspapers are going bankrupt and people are switching the channels from NBC, ABC and CBS to Fox News and GBTV. The reason is Americans have lost faith in the media. They are losing loyal customers faster than Obama spends money.

The liberal media can go ahead and do what they want, they cannot stop the free flow of information that website like The Blaze, Drudge Report, The Heritage Foundation and so many others provide. They cannot stop conservative talk radio and Cable TV. Their newspapers are being used to line bird cages and cat boxes and the only people watching their news channels are brainless twits who can’t think for themselves anyway.

Instead of letting the video play to show the protest for what it is, It much more fun to frame it into a clean homogenized mass of innocent do gooders.

If they really agree with the protesters why not show the Marxist, Socialist and anti Capitalist signs?

Oh yeah we don’t want to let the truth get out.

And your point is? Aside from demonstrating the obvious to people who are already well informed this tells me nothing that is new. However, that said, it does prove, once again, that the media is biased left and the only ones who don’t believe that are those who have eyes but refuse to see. By pointing out again and again this type of association, one can only hope that eventually those few on the left who have not competely closed their mind will wake up and realize just how bad it is.
