Phony Taliban ‘Negotiator’ in Peace Talks Dupes NATO & Afghan Government

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A man leading the Taliban side of peace talks with the Afghan government was an impersonator, an Afghan close to the negotiations said Tuesday, an embarrassing revelation for Afghan officials who have promoted reconciliation efforts as the best chance for ending the war.

Quickly moving to do damage control, President Hamid Karzai dismissed the reports as “propaganda,” saying neither he nor any other members of his government had ever met with a man named Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour — one of highest ranking members of the Taliban council leading the insurgency.

The report about the impostor first appeared in The New York Times and The Washington Post.

An Afghan familiar with the reconciliation efforts, speaking confirmed that a delegate claiming to be Mansour “was a fraud.” He spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to jeopardize his contacts with both sides.

Karzai denied that anybody named Akhtar Mohammad Mansour was ever brought by NATO to Afghanistan for meetings with him and other officials.

“I did not see Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour and Mullah Mansour did not come to Afghanistan. Don’t accept this news from the foreign press regarding meetings with the elders of the Taliban because most of them are propaganda,” Karzai said.

NATO, which was reportedly deeply involved in the meetings and purportedly flew the impostor to Kabul, did not immediately comment on the reports.

Mansour, a former civil aviation minister during Taliban rule, is a senior member of the Taliban’s ruling council in the Pakistani city of Quetta. That council, or shura, is run by Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar.

If confirmed, the claims that he was not really involved would be a blow to the Afghan government’s push to find a political resolution to the nine-year-old war. It also raised questions about the credibility of some NATO officials who have said they facilitated contacts between Taliban figures and Afghan officials.

According to the reports, the impostor met with Afghan and NATO officials three times — including once with Karzai — before they discovered he was not Mansour. He was allegedly paid to attend.

Mansour was a well-known Taliban leader and had a high profile job in the movement’s Cabinet. It is not clear why officials would have had such a difficult time identifying him. There are a number of former Taliban in parliament and in the 70-member High Peace Council recently formed by Karzai to find a political solution to the insurgency. It was reported that the man was believed to be a shopkeeper in Quetta.

Although quite senior in the Quetta Shura, Mansour was not promoted to second-in-command of the Quetta shura following last February’s arrest in Pakistan of Abdul Ghani Baradar. The Afghan Taliban’s No. 2 leader was arrested in a joint raid with the CIA.

Mansour was passed over in favor for Maulvi Zakir Qayyum — a former Guantanamo detainee. Released into Afghan custody in 2007, Qayyum was freed four months later and rejoined the Taliban.

In Pakistan last week President Barack Obama’s special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, played down reports about that senior Taliban leaders were holding talks with the Afghan government.

Gannon reported from Islamabad.

If anything this article has pointed out is the gullibility of our intelligence agencies and our media. Obviously this is a propaganda “victory” for the Taliban who in recent days have been testing our capabilities in security and now our ability to discern what is real and what is false.
To date they have won and we have lost. The ground realities is that the war raging in Afghanistan and Pakistan points to the fact that both the Kazai government of Afghanistan and the government of Pakistan along with the US are losing the battle and they know it.
As for security we are still in the dark as passengers are humiliated at airport checking points while our borders are wide open, inviting any and every terrorist to walk into the US. During the decades from the 1990′s the Taliban and the Al-Qaeda have proved their mettle against powers like Russia and now the US and NATO. To quote Osama Bin Laden after the 9/11 attack “we have time on our hands”. Unfortunately the US does not as we have already set “exit windows” even before the war is over, while our enemy has not. We have crippled our military with “the seven rules of engagement” while the Taliban and Al-Qaeda does not even recognize the rules of the Geneva conference. There is a saying “War begins with deceit” and to date Iran, Pakistan, the terrorist groups have run circles around us with deceit with an obvious preparation of another attack upon our shores. This will be inevitable as long as our intelligence service acts like a child willing to believe anything told to him.

Kabul was once Hindu land. Kandahar means “Alexander”

These land weren’t always occupied by muslim colonizers. They were Western lands, they were Hindu lands. And, as is 100% predictable, the moment these lands began interfacing with muslims, they were destroyed and we have the wastelands that they are today. They have not progressed one tiny step forward and a civilization since the muslim colonization/forced conversion was complete centuries ago.

Jihad is an incredibly effective method of warfare that has brought down nation after nation allowing muslim colonization of our lands to proceed with all due haste. What took us 5,000 years to build, Islam has crippled in only 1,400 and will utterly destroy in another 500 if we do not stop them.

I am not the least bit surprised. Why do we continue to trust these people? And, yes. By “these people” I mean muslims. Look back through history and ask yourself if they have ever given us a reason to trust them. You will find that the answer is a profound NO. From the Galloping Hordes to the Barbary Pirates to the Moors to the Taliban. Anyone who has ever offered the Muslims help has come to regret it later on. The muslims have turned on anyone who has ever helped them with anything. Why, you ask?

Well, it’s easy. They turn on most of their “allies” because most of their “allies” aren’t muslim. So it’s okay to be dishonest, dishonorable, and murderous when it comes to them. We‘re not the first nation they’ve done this to. We just refuse to apply our history lessons in this case. I, for one, no longer trust muslims. I expect them to turn on me. I don’t care if they are “peaceful muslims”. One bad apple. Right? Well how about millions of bad apples.

It’s time to stop taking prisoners. It’s time to stop the interrogations. It’s time to fight terrorism as if we are FIGHTING TERRORISM. Otherwise, we have no business fighting a war.

TRUST NO ONE. DESTROY EVERYTHING. TAKE NO PRISONERS.

These “people” know nothing but war and hatred and we cannot think that we can change that in the course of a decade of war. They will live on far longer than we will have a military presence over there. It is their culture and they embrace it. It’s like them invading us and thinking they could get us to stop believing in God. Not gonna happen.

This is true. They are allowed to lie to ‘the infidel’ if it furthers the aims of ‘allah’. A religion that spreads ‘love and peace’ says it is ok to lie? Indeed, encourages it? Who is the prince of lies again? I wonder if Muhammed translates to Lucifer? (To the unlikely muslim reader: Yeah, I am insulting your precious ‘prophet)’ He was also a pedophile. Furthermore, he encourages muslims to be pedophiles… WTF?! Are we seriously allowing this disease of the soul to fester in our country?
