This is the camera that was allegedly in the ocean for four, long years.
Peter Govaars was in for a big surprise when he and his daughter discovered a dilapidated camera on a California beach. To his surprise, he found an SD card attached to the unit. Curiosity caught the best of Govaars, so he decided to clean the card and see if any data could be found on it.
Surprisingly, he was able to find 104 photographs on the card dating back to June 2007. If his assumption that the camera was submerged under water for four years is true, then it is absolutely astonishing that the images were viewable. After all, the ocean is a salty and unpredictable place, and water — especially that much of it — is known for destroying technology.
Govaars is hoping to find the long-lost owner of the camera, so he can return deliver these memories to him or her. To assist in finding the individual, he has posted the images on Flickr. MercuryNews.com has more regarding why he is so intent on finding the owner and his or her family:
“It really is kind of a neat time capsule, given how it was lost and for how long,” he said.
Some of the images feature a young Latina with pigtails and an oval-shaped birthmark on her left cheek. Some show her using a baseball bat to whack the candy and other goodies out of a Snow White pinata, and in others, she’s blowing out the candles on a birthday cake topped by Minnie Mouse, an elderly couple proudly watching on.
“These might be the last pictures ever taken of grandma and grandpa, here at the party,” Govaars commented.
We’ll have to wait and see if the family can be located. Intriguing story, indeed.

“The owner of the camera has been found and contacted! Thanks to everyone for their detective work. Arrangements are being made to get the SD card and pictures back to her.
The camera was accidentally dropped off the Santa Cruz wharf four years ago when she was taking pictures of the sea lions. She flew out from Texas to visit relatives when the camera was lost.
What a great ending to this story! Once again, thanks to everyone that found clues and followed up on leads!
Peter.
PS: The owner is the girl in front receiving the rabbit ears in the third picture from the end of this set.”

Posted on June 22, 2011 at 8:46amAhhh… Ancient bittersweet history. Back before I fully understood that our own people were actively and successfully destroying the United States of America. Before I stepped through the looking glass and found that nationalism had been replaced by insanity…

Posted on June 22, 2011 at 1:37amBy 2012 when the world is in utter ruin this SD card may be the only evidence left of human existence.
In time, new earthlings will come upon it and wonder what ever happened to these creatures? “Surely such a fate will never befall us.” [enter father] “You‘ll never believe this great new thing we’ve created, it’s called goverment.” To Be Continued…
