CNN host Piers Morgan battled it out with MSNBC contributor Touré over the Trayvon Martin case Friday night in an explosive interview that capped a back-and-forth Twitter spat between the two.
Things got underway after Morgan’s Thursday interview with Rob Zimmerman, the brother of neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman who said he shot the Florida teen in self-defense.
“Piers did not challenge Robert Zimmerman the way a professional journalist should,” tweeted Touré, who has said he believes Zimmerman murdered Martin.
Morgan responded, “Oh Toure, you’re such a tedious little twerp.”
With that, the two were off, trading barbs and insults throughout the day Friday about the other’s journalistic abilities. It came to a head when Touré agreed to appear that night on Morgan’s show to air his grievances face-to-face.
In addition to his criticism of Morgan’s handling of the interview with Zimmerman, Touré charged that Morgan’s British roots bar him from truly grasping the impact of the Martin case.
“These are things that hurt as an American very deeply and you are too new to this situation to fully understand what’s really going on here, and what’s really at stake for America,” he said.
“What a load of fatuous nonsense you speak, Touré, don’t you?” Morgan shot back. “You think you have the only right to speak about what’s serious in America? You think that I don‘t have a right as somebody from Britain who’s spent the last six, seven years here –”
“Six whole years!” Touré mocked. “You have the right,” he began, repeating that there are things Morgan can’t understand about the situation.
“What don’t I understand?” Morgan demanded. “What don’t I understand? Let’s deal with this.”
“You are showing clearly you don’t understand the depth of the pain in the American soul that is at play in this situation,” Touré said.
“What a load of nonsense,” Morgan retorted.
When Touré replied that there are “subtleties” Morgan is unable to grasp, Morgan asked whether Touré believed George Zimmerman murdered Martin.
“Yes,” Touré replied, earning more journalistic criticism from Morgan for making a judgement before all the facts are known.

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 4:18pmYou arrest someone so I trial can be held, so they can’t flee BEFORE that trial is held, and/or so they aren’t MURDERED before the STATE can conduct a trial and determine whether they are guilty or innocent, so, if they ARE executed, it is done according to due process and fulfills justice.
Zimmerman may be innocent, and if he is, mere arrest isn’t a conviction, and is probably the best thing for his safety in between the trial and now. If he isn’t innocent, I don‘t know why he isn’t already in South America, and he needs to be put somewhere he won’t murder more innocent members of society (you know, prison).

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 6:35pmWhy would arresting Zimmerman establish the facts? There is nothing to add to this case, it was self-defense and they Martin can’t accept the fact that their son was where he was not supposed to be. There is no reason for him to have been in that gated community at that time on the night. Zimmerman had reason to call the police and did so, Martin just did not like that and attacked Zimmerman.

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 6:42pmTHE THIRD ARCHON, allow me to inject some thought into your childish tirade to “just arrest Zimmerman now” attitude. Somebody in the State AG’s office ordered him released when the Police first brought him in. When I first began to hunt and read other sources regarding this incident I had read that Zimmerman was originally arrested at the scene, but have found that he was actually detained then transported to the police station. I have worked law enforcement in three states, and although I lived in Florida for 5 years, I did not work in LE there. So, I am not that well versed on there laws when it comes to arrest. Now, having read the below link I understand why he was not arrested. I suggest that you read and make an attempt to understand the relatively short page.
http://www.sanfordfl.gov/investigation/docs/Zimmerman_Martin_shooting.pdf
Taking into account the contents of this page, and the fact that Zimmerman has not yet been arrested actually speaks volumes as what is going on. Naturally, there is an active investigation and even though the police chief has stepped aside, I would think that the Sheriff is now actively involved. We know that the state is involved, and now the FBI, along with the DOJ are all looking into the matter. With this much investigative involvement, and I would venture to say that the DOJ is literally salivating to get Zimmerman, just ask yourself why he has not been arrested yet. Put some thought into it too. Likely not enough evidence yet.

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 6:50pmIt amazes me how often Liberal ideologues bash Fox News but then when you ask them if they watch Fox news or ask them to give and example of what they are talking about they look at me like a cow looking at a new gate. There really are a lot of people who assume that Fox News lies or that Fox News is biased. I switched from CNN to FOX back in the 90‘s because I found that Fox’s reporting was objective and really is fair and balanced. Sometimes CNN does ok but most of the time they have a Left wing spin on things. For me, FOX News is more conservative an more in line with conservative Christian values. You could say FOX sends a thrill up my leg…….sorry couldn’t help myself.

Posted on April 1, 2012 at 1:43amYou only arrest someone when you have enough evidence to show they committed a crime. Arresting someone who was innocent of a crime can result in lawsuits over civil rights violations. Unless the state of FL can produce evidence that contradicts Mr. Zimmerman’s claim of self defense they will never arrest him much less charge him with a crime. And from what real information has come forth, there is a lot of evidence of self defense.
Having no witness that shows Mr. Zimmerman initiated the violence. Having a witness that says Trayvon was on top of Mr. Zimmerman assaulting him. Mr. Zimmerman’s call to 911 to report suspicious behavior. Trayvon coming towards Mr. Zimmerman’s car while reaching into his waist band while the 911 dispatcher was on the line. The police reporting that Mr. Zimmerman had wounds to the back of his head and his nose, while there was no signs of injuries on Trayvon except for the gunshot wound.

Posted on April 1, 2012 at 2:08amApparently Zimmerman was “arrested.” He was NOT charged. He was released. For an “offender” to be held, after the FELONY arrest, the state attorney must review the initial facts, as they are presented at THAT time, and determine whether or not to detain and charge the individual and then let he/she go to bond court. Just because Zimmerman is not “arrested” now, does not mean the case is over! The state will review the evidence and determine what the evidenice is and what, if any, law was violated. He may be re-arrested and charged. This is a matter of a course. I was a detective with a large metropolitan police department for many years. You may be questioned and released, the detective may seek to get a felony approval and be denied, it doesn’t mean the case is over! It simply means that further investigation is required to ascertain whether charges should be brought. It is a tragedy a life was taken, a young life at that. What was in Zimmermans’ heart when he pulled the trigger, no one will know. Was the man a racist, most probably know he was not,, was he a wanton murderer? Probably not. Did he kill someone, yes. Did he break the law? That is for the state decide, based on the evidence, and then to charge him or not. The “hoodie” mentality is inflamatory and insulting. If Zimmerman were a cold blooded killer, just waiting to acccost and murder an innocent black youth, he may have had numerous occasions to do so. Something happened that night, let’s wait and see

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 12:16amYou CAN’T just arrest someone. The police actually need evidence and probable cause to arrest or charge someone. The police handcuffed Zimmerman, took him to the station, interviewed all witnesses present, and gathered the evidence available. Zimmerman’s story corroborated with the evidence at hand. They can’t arrest him just because some people in the public have a “hunch” or ‘think’ he ‘might’ have murdered someone in cold blood. The police did investigate, and are further investigating.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 7:41amArrest Zimmerman? What are you going to arrest him for? All these people calling for his arrest seem to have forgotten that this is the United States of America, not Russia, Iran or some other country lacking in a true Constitution and Bill of Rights. If law enforcement had the evidence that he committed a crime they would arrest him, I am sure. If the investigation uncovers some evidence of a crime, I am sure he will be arrested. Since when in this country do we arrest someone just because some people protest and demand an arrest? The rule of law is part of what this country was founded upon. Let law enforcement do its job. Stop prosecuting him in public and give law enforcement a chance to work. If the evidence is that Zimmerman committed a crime, he must be tried to a jury of his peers. If the evidence is that he acted in self-defense, then he should not be put on trial. We also cannot the left use this event as justification for gun control and vilifying laws that allow us to defend ourselves. While this case is tragic in that there was a loss of life, the left is shamefully using this to push its radical agenda of stripping us of our Constitutional rights.

Does Toure have a thing against the Hispanic culture? Again, wa-a-a-a-y-y-y off base! What we have here is a perceived misreant being followed by a volunteer (which is a bit different than ‘self-appointed’), who called 9-1-1 for assistance, was asked not to continue following the object of his concern, then some sort of altercation, instigated by one or the other, and the stories have changed as people weigh in on whose voice said what, who was on top and how the weapon got involved! I’m actually sorry that Toure feels such deep hurt–I actually know blacks who are PROUD of their slave-ancestors, who were PROUD of their contributions to their times (not proud to be slaves but proud how they handled it)! He has also interviewed Jesse Jackson, Cornel West, Henry Gates (the beer summit guy) and more of the same. His implication that Morgan is not a professional journalist is indeed “fatuous” when one compares the track records of these two. Morgan was right to contemptuously slap him down.

What is the saddest part of this tragedy is that Blacks are using Blacks to gain power and money. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson Sr. and others are baiting the young Blacks into racial suicide for a cause that is based on smoke and mirrors. Posted on March 31, 2012 at 2:02pmAnd Al Sharpton’s at it again, big rally in Florida, stoke the flames. Someone else will die because of his rants and power grab..Remember Tawana Brawley. Usual suspects are there, Jesse, can’t miss a chance to regain relivence Jackson and all his race baiting friends..Rush to judgement and the innocents pay. Stop the nonsense, the pictures used by te media are biased. Zimmerman‘s is from ’05 and wearing a jail jump suit and Treyvon’s of a12 year old. Treyvon was now a 6′ kid with a rep. and Zimmernam a balding 5” man with a lot less weight..Media get it right.

So, are you just ignorant, or deliberately misrepresenting the two people? Zimmerman has been arrested for assaulting a police officer. He has also had an ex girlfriend that filed a restraining order against him…

“Zimmerman has been arrested for assaulting a police officer. He has also had an ex girlfriend that filed a restraining order against him…”
What a load of nonsense. Do you work for MSNBC? Zimmerman was arrested seven years ago for non-violent resisting arrest. He simply argued with a police officer who was trying to arrest his friend for under-age drinking. Whoopdee-doo.
Both Zimmerman and his girlfriend placed restraining orders on eachother.

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 1:56pmI don‘t question the depth of pain felt by African Americans in this country and I don’t dispute the historical reasons that cause that pain. I just think blacks need to be careful not to view every white-on-black incident that happens in this country through that lens. No, we should not forget the past lest we repeat it (as Glenn often says) but neither should we continually envelope ourselves in it such that we can’t rationally function today or see a hope for tomorrow. Let’s continue to let the facts on the Trayvon tragedy come out… there are some interesting new details coming out that raise more questions about Zimmerman’s story.

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 7:52pmPlease, the “depth of pain felt by the African-American” is all juvenile theatrics.
Report Post »NONE of these people were ever slaves. NONE of their parents were ever slaves.
The rest of us are expected to pick ourselves up and make a life even after the recent effects of a disastrous childhood. We are still expected to make excuses for blacks and badgered endlessly with undeserved guilt for what happened over 150 years ago. It’s just absurd. Many whites fought and died for them to have every opportunity the rest of us have. The freedom to pursue happiness. The difference is blacks demand their happiness be delivered to their front door at no cost to themselves or requiring any effort on their part whatsoever.
Your bleeding heart is only going to leave you bloodless.
This entire situation has little to do with Trayvon Martin and more to do with the black agenda.

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 11:54pmBlacks were doing just fine in this country after the civil war and moving up the economical ladder until the racist democrats began “helping” them in the 60s. It’s all been downhill since.

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 1:51pmIt’s time to call a spade a spade. Yes, blacks were slaves at one time, just like most other racial/ethnic groups. Fact is, those most opposed to the abolition of black slavery were the black slave trading cartels in west Africa. The most important fact relevant to today is, blacks have done nothing for themselves. They whine and cry as they are born out of wedlock, remain uneducated, and are the most violent group in America. Whites are their victims, not the other way around.

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 1:49pmAlot of Americans are sick of this constant poor me attitude of the blacks. None of them have suffered slavery as they keep bringing up constantly. As a matter of fact, most blacks have been treated alot better and recieve more government benefits than anyone else (maybe except for illegals). I truly believe that they will not be happy until there is a civil war in this country again. They are in Sanford today still trying to stir up the hate. Where is the justice for Brian Terry????

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 3:46pmIt’s JUST US not justice, in the minds of Toure & Rev Al. Like so many hyping up this issue, Toure is a privileged liberal entertainment reporter that assumes the hoodie of victimization whenever it suits the purpose. This race card has been played so many times no thinking persons buys it anymore. I feel badly for all the normal people living in the Sanford/Orlando area having to put up with the race hustler circus. Talk about causing pain & unnecessarily dividing people!

Report Post »And amen to the fact that blacks need to stop crying “oppression” every time a white person kills a black person these days. It is NOT about color. Whites are killing whites, blacks are killing blacks, blacks are killing whites and I could go on. We all need to be responsible for our actions…black or white..red or blue. There is no excuse–no more poor pitiful me–that needs to be cried these days. No one alive has experienced slavery, no way they can use it as an excuse.
